Why does the thought of a root canal feel like facing a firing squad? I arrived at Austin Center for Endodontics (ACE) with all the confidence of a flea. Sure, the endodontist had performed thousands of these procedures, but what if this was the one time something went wrong? What if they somehow snipped a nerve? They always say there's nothing to worry about, but isn't that exactly what people say right before disaster strikes and the train jumps off the tracks? Maybe it was just my pre-op jitters... The office staff made the check-in process easy from the start, sending my paperwork electronically so I could complete everything before my visit. When I arrived, Dr. Amin introduced himself and walked me through the procedure. For anyone fortunate enough to be unfamiliar with root canals, the treatment involves removing infected pulp from inside the tooth and filling the space with a rubber-like material to preserve the tooth. Then came the anesthetic injection with a metal syringe (didn't even know doctors were still were using these). Thankfully, they first applied a numbing gel before administering the shots. To be honest, it initially felt more like a swarm of mosquitoes staging a full-on attack on my mouth. Fortunately, within minutes everything was completely numb. The procedure itself was surprisingly smooth and uneventful. No unexpected complications, no nerves damaged, and no dramatic stories to tell. Afterward, however, half my face remained numb. When I tried to speak, the result sounded like someone attempting to communicate through a mouthful of marshmallows. Later in the evening, the numbness wore off and the discomfort arrived like an uninvited houseguest who somehow knew the "secret" location of your spare key. Fortunately, I was armed with pain medication, which provided almost immediate relief. The bottom line? I survived. The procedure was far less intimidating than I had imagined, and I'm looking forward to enjoying a pain-free mouth once everything has fully healed. read more

They tried to give me a completely unnecessary root canal. Be very wary of what they recommend here! I had been having tooth pain for a few months after getting a cavity filled, and the dentist recommended I go here. By the time my appointment came around, the pain had mostly gone away, but I wanted them to evaluate it anyway. They did a 3D x-ray, coldness test, and bite stick test... all showed no indication of any issues... and then the doctor said, well, I think you should go ahead and have us do a root canal. How about right now? But there was no indication on any test they did of any issue! He said, well, maybe the nerve died and you'll find out in a few months that the pain is back and there's an infection spreading. But I asked, isn't it possible there's no issue at all? Well, yes, maybe, but I recommend you get the root canal anyway. So right then, I realized the tests they did that I paid $400 for were all a sham. It makes zero difference what they find on the test, they recommend a root canal TO EVERY PATIENT. I left and didn't get the root canal. It's been close to a year now. It turns out there was no issue. They wanted to do a completely unnecessary root canal on me. read more

I came to ACE after several months of nightmare experiences with other dental/endodontics practices. Their staff is incredible. The person on the phone worked to get me a rush consult + treatment in the same appointment before my coverage expired, coordinating with my dentist to get my records and speed up the process. Dr. Amin was friendly and knowledgeable, offering a detailed explanation of what was going on and laying out all my options along with pros and cons of each. The dental assistant was sweet and reassuring as I was having anxiety over the whole process. Ketan Amin, DMD is the ONLY Endo I want to have work on my teeth! He is gentle, kind and thorough in explanation. His staff is also very kind and informative and sensitive to the pain that goes with needing a root canal. He and his assistant do everything to keep you as comfortable as possible during the procedure, and quick to answer any questions before and after. I was so relieved to be able to hold an appointment for a few days after I sensed a problem, awaiting a DDS to confirm. Earlier this year I was advised to perform a root canal on a tooth that had zero symptoms or issues after visiting for the tooth in front of it. As you can see in the photo- I got the root canal and within 3 months the tooth in front I originally went in for fell out (it was already a root canal so it failed). I've gone ahead with replacing the failed root canal with an implant and the root canal that was performed here is now infected and needs to be pulled out. It was bad advice to suggest the root canal in the first place as the top tooth was already removed and it didn't do any chewing. You can also see in the photo that the filling spilled out of the bottom of the tooth and is just hanging out there in my gum until my body dissolves it. I learned I had 8 infected root canals so I will probably never bother wasting my money on root canals again. I wrote to the business and never heard back. I just wanted people to know that a root canal may not be the best option for everyone. I should have gotten a second opinion in this case and had this tooth pulled instead of wasting my money on a root canal. read more

I had to get a root canal and had some pretty awful past experiences in the dentist chair (not at Great Grins!!), not to mention the general fear surrounding root canals. I needed a root canal and was referred here by regular dentist. I'd never had a root canal before and was terrified of the possible pain I might experience. I brought my earbuds to play a podcast to keep my mind occupied. I mentioned I was nervous while being seated for the procedure. During the initial injection of the anesthetic, the assistant rubbed my arm and tried to calm me down. I didn't expect that level of kindness. I've never seen that before. It really made me feel cared for. The procedure went smoothly and they coordinated with my regular dentist to get the permanent filling done for my crown. Dr. Amin, D.M.D. was recommended to me by Mesa Dental. Unfortunately, I needed to have a root canal consultation and was confirmed to need the procedure to take place at a later date. Obviously the idea of a root canal is scary and intimidating to say the least, but Dr. Amin is genuinely very good at what he does. He's extremely accomplished, has wonderful bedside manner, puts you at ease and is professional every step of the way. Went to my regular dentist for a semi annual appt and found one of my front teeth had gone dead and changed colors. They recommended Dr Amin. Called same day and got an appt for the next day to see Dr. Amin for consultation and treatment. Great customer service by his crew and great treatment by Dr. Amin. He came in and explained what probably happened to the tooth. Showed me again that it had no feeling to it and the root was dead. My dentist referred me to Dr.Amin for. Foot canal procedure. I was able to get an appointment the same day. I liked that I could fill out all the necessary paperwork online. It makes the visit less stressful. As soon as I checked in I had a couple of attestations to read and agree to on their mobile tablet. Within minutes I was taken to the back. Dr. Amin was very thorough with explaining what he was going to do. I did appreciate the choice of listening to music on Pandora or a show on Netflix while he worked on my tooth. If you have any fears of the dentist, this is the place to go!! Dr. Amin is a Harvard grad, extremely brilliant, humble, approachable, and always willing to answer all your questions and offer all the reassurance you need before you have a procedure done so there is no guessing involved. I had an old root canal from 10 years ago that I never had crowns placed on until recently. I went to my dentist's office in Houston and he placed the crowns...a week later I noticed swelling and tenderness in my gums and had xrays done....they were reinfected!! I was referred to Dr. Amin by a family member that spoke very highly of him, the only problem was that I had to drive to Austin to get it done. He offered to look at my X-rays, explained everything I was looking at, and told me what I needed done. He got me in rather quickly from there. Because my treatment plan included replacing the root canals and surgery the next day I didn't want to go to just anyone. It was definitely worth the trip. He did explain to me that there was a chance that I would need the crowns replaced in case they were damaged in the process before anything was done. He even made sure with me that my dentist was willing to replace the damaged crowns if anything was to happen to them, which was very considerate of him. BUT...he was able to save the crowns! He explained EVERYTHING he was doing before he did it and what I was going to feel. He frequently checked on me to make sure I wasn't in any pain and checks on you later in the day too...I've never had a dentist do that before. Pixie and Erica were great too. One of them even rubbed my arm when I was getting the anesthetic injected. I'm a nurse and didn't think I was the type of person that would be comforted by that type of thing....but it was so nice. =) They even have a TV on the CEILING and headphones so you can watch Netflix or listen to music. All of the equipment is modern, tiny X-Ray machine, consent forms are on the computer, and you fill out your health history through a link they send you through your email so you don't have to fill out paperwork by hand. It doesn't get easier than that! Dr. Amin and his team left me in such good shape that I was able to drive back to Houston straight from the office after having the surgery. I have absolutely no regrets making that trip to Austin, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat if anything else popped up. Thank you Dr. Amin, Erica and Pixie!!! I have been putting off a root canal for 2 years due to fear of the dentist. I even considered having my tooth pulled to avoid a root canal. I was crying and shaking when I sat in the chair due to my fear but I can say the whole procedure, even the injections were PAIN FREE, let me repeat, ZERO PAIN. I was impressed with the fact that they gave me 4 extra strength advil to take with me and instructions to come back in 6 months for a xray to make sure the healing process completed. Oh and also I like the fact that they gave me an antibiotic script to lessen the chance of infection which occasionally happens with a root canal. The good doctor had plenty of time to discuss his favorite Thanksgiving recipes with the nurse but had failed to mention the high dose antibiotics he prescribed which was nonchalantly mentioned by the nurse upon checking out with no explanation. Who ever heard of an enjoyable root canal experience ? Indeed, it was... never in my life have I raved to countless people (strangers and family alike) right after the procedure of what an absolutely amazing root canal I had... I honestly doubted the use of even posting a review, (knowing Dr. Amin's office would have a plethora of 5-star ratings)....but I finally figured... even if I'm the millionth, so be it... Hard work, dedication and kindness deserve it. Every aspect, from the actual medical procedure (whereby I was completely put at ease, experienced NO pain--contrary to my last root canal, enjoyed pandora via headphones they provided) to the friendliness of staff, overall efficiency (appointment, wait time, even the procedure was only 45 minutes) and...as if they're really trying to melt my heart ...sustainability efforts....no cutting down trees, as seems to be the goal of every new medical specialist office we find ourselves in (in the U.S.)...no paperwork, Dr. Amin brings the computer to you, if you don't happen to have filled it out online in advance. There are comments about the price being higher than average. This was an emergency appointment...the night before I was in so much pain I was about to pull my own tooth out...Most patients who come to the clinic have emergency root canals like myself, and, like myself, are "fit in same day". I in no way felt rushed/like I was being "fit in".... Putting the financial reality aside (at the end of the day, we are living within the American medical system, which is more expensive than others), if it is slightly more expensive than expensive anyway, in my mind that's nothing when you get a team of medical professionals in whom you feel 100% instant trust and confidence. I had a root canal done by Dr. Amin last October while visiting friends in Austin. I was 100% pleased with my experience and I knew that it was much better than I had anticipated, but I had nothing to compare it to until yesterday. A different tooth needed a root canal, so I went to an endodontist who is much closer to me and learned that going back to Dr. Amin would have been well worth the four hour drive. I intended to write a review for his office immediately following my visit, but yesterday's unfortunate experience highlighted the sharp contrast between offices and I feel newly motivated to recommend Austin Center for Endodontics. I felt at ease from the moment I walked into Dr. Amin's office. His office and staff are warm, friendly, and calm. Check-in was quick and easy since his office emails the registration link ahead of time. I was led back to my chair where I selected a Netflix show to pass the time (a great distraction!) Dr. Amin greeted me and was so friendly and informative. He confirmed the problem with my tooth and got started. The numbing injections (normally the worst part of any dental treatment for me) weren't bad at all. I really have to give props here to his assistant as she was incredibly soothing and really softened the whole experience for me. I can't remember what her name is, but she was incredible. The rest of the treatment is a blur to me, as I was heavily distracted by Netflix. I didn't even finish the TV show episode I was watching before Dr. Amin was completely done! Checking out of the office was a breeze, and I left feeling more like I'd just had a relaxing break away from my kids than a root canal. I was grateful then, but I'm even more appreciative now that I've learned my lesson: when you find an endodontist who makes a root canal seem more like a vacation than a chore, you should stick with him. read more

I have to start this review by saying how much I miss having Dr. Amin here in Phoenix as my to go guy for ALL of my patients who needed a root canal treatment. Dr. Amin was recommended to me by another dentist so I thought I would give him a try when I first opened my office in 2008 (I'm a general dentist). From the first patient that I sent there to the last, all of them gave me raving reviews as to how well their appointments went with him. It's hard enough to have to give my patients the bad news of needing a root canal treatment, but it was extremely easy to tell them, without a doubt, that Dr. Amin will take great care of them. Not only is he personable with my patients, but I truly felt confident in his work. He is one of the few endodontists who will actually clean out ALL of the decay like you are supposed to with the completion of the root canal treatment. His root canal treatments looked beautiful on the x-rays when they came back to me. I know that's pretty nerdy to say, but it's true! I can't say enough great things about him. In summary, he's caring, honest, excellent at what he does, and just an all around great guy! I will still email him with root canal questions to this day, all the way from Phoenix! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Amin and his office staff. First off, it was a very quick, painless procedure. The worst part was the shot to numb me, and then the rest was smooth sailing. The tv mounted to the ceiling and big headphones kept me distracted, and it was over before I knew it. When he told me it was over I didn't believe him! In 2013 I saw my dentist in this building. He informed me I needed a root canal, and there was a new endodontist downstairs. How convenient. I went directly to the office of Dr Amin. I informed them I had an infection, had just seen my dentist, and was starting antibiotics that night(this will become important to the story)They scheduled me for the next day. This was one of the most painful procedures of my life! The anesthetic wasn't working, despite multiple injections. Later he informed me that when there's active infection the anesthesia doesn't work as well. Despite this, as I was crying and sinking deeper into the chair, he administered multiple injections and pressed on. At one point he even sighed and kind of grabbed my face in frustration to give another shot. He missed a root, that's another story. if your coworker asked you "what'd you do for lunch today?" you might say "i grabbed some tacos at torchy's". others might say "i checked out the shoe sale at DSW". i would say "i had a root canal". and i'd say it with a big (if lopsided) smile on my face. yes, i had a root canal - in at noon and out by 1. yes, i had a root canal - no discomfort (much less pain) before, during, or after. yes, i had a root canal and I DIDN'T MIND IT ONE BIT. yes, yes, yes. Dr. Amin is the man. he is the one making allllll of the other doctors out there who do root canals look bad. he is kind; he is skilled; he is mellow; he explains everything gently and thoroughly; he answers all of your questions without making you feel rushed. i would have to say that my root canal was a thoroughly enjoyable experience (for what it was). yeah i used "root canal" and "enjoyable" in the same sentence just then. staff was professional, friendly, and attentive. office is modern and high tech. anesthetics are doled out in the manner and quantity needed by the patient. and you get to listen to your fave pandora station, or watch netflix on the in-ceiling monitor while he is in there doing his magic. of course the standard, almost required, parting valediction when leaving a root canal is along the lines of "thanks - but i hope i never have to see you again" (although all garbled and drooly) - and i probably uttered those very words. but i kind of secretly hope i need another root canal some day! highly recommended. thanks dr. amin and staff! read more

My 85 year old mother went in for a root canal today. Her understanding was she would pay for the procedure AFTER it was completed as this is how it is done at her current dentist. Erica refused to honor my mother's appointment until she paid up front. My mother asked her to call me for the credit card information and she refused saying they no longer had time for her appointment. My mother was very upset - she is, after all in a lot of pain - to which the Erica then told my mother to leave the premises or she would call the police. CALL THE POLICE - ON AN 85 YEAR OLD WHO MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR PAY-UP-FRONT POLICY - WHO WAS IN PAIN - REFUSED A DRINK AND TOLD TO STAND OUTSIDE TO WAIT FOR HER RIDE. Or Austin Center for Endodontics would call the police - on an 85 year old. Good job! read more
