From the moment I walked in, the office stood out becuase it's incredibly clean and just a really bright welcoming space that immediately puts you at ease. The entire staff was so friendly and genuinely kind, which made the whole visit feel comfortable and stress-free. You can tell they really care about creating a positive experience for patients. They even had a list of patient amenities like water, coffee, headphones, chapstick, etc. Sarah, the dental hygienist who did my cleaning, was excellent as she was very gentle yet thorough. I left feeling like my teeth were extremely clean. Dr. Priya is fantastic. She's clearly very knowledgeable and well-educated in her field, but what really stood out is how much she cares. I was referred to Dr. Peppard to evaluate my TMJ pain, and I would not recommend anyone to his practice. My visit was in October, and I was greeted by a technician who was to perform the scans of my mouth. While I was seated in an open area, in the hallway by the open treatment rooms, which I know is normal at a dentist's office. Dr. Peppard came over to introduce himself and shake my hand, "Great start!" I thought to myself. Then he yelled out "So you take X and Y medication correct?" That violates HIPPA first red flag. The X-Rays were taken and then I was taken into the room to be evaluated. Dr. Peppard spent a decent amount of time talking to me about what previous dentists/Dr's have done and suggested. He spoke in length about Dr.'s staying in their lane. But just after stating those points he asks me if I have any other conditions he should know about. I stated I have "endometriosis". HE then proceeded to ask me "Have you had your uterus taken out?", to which I responded "NO, that has nothing to do with endometriosis, a disease of the uterus is called Adenomyosis and that is not how endometriosis spreads." to which he responded "Well that depends on if deposits of the uterine lining...well let me stop there." And boy I'm glad he did and I should have just walked away right then and there. I have been gaslit by so many doctors over my condition I was used to it, but from a dentist are you serious! But I needed a treatment plan badly as I've been in pain for a while and there aren't many people who deal with the jaw so I took a deep breath and proceeded. He then explained in length (with a skull) how the jaw works etc. Then he pulls up my scans, and he tells me I have no disc left of my left jaw and that I have possibly torn a ligament. I was of course in shock! I asked him how sure he was of this and he said he was 100% sure, he said I would most likely need surgery. As I was visibly shaken by this news I asked "What if I can't do surgery?" To which he replied "Well then I can fit you with a device that may help, and you can wear that until the pain gets too terrible and you can't stand it anymore" I have PTSD and panic disorder, and he knew this. He said I needed an MRI of the jaw. I was of course ok with that now knowing what he had said. While at checkout he gave me the MRI order and told me I had to go to one specific place as they are the ones who know what he needs to see. They scheduled an appointment for January to fit me with an appliance (I think) and sent me on my way. I went to my car and cried, for a good 15 minutes before I could drive home. I got home and called the MRI provider, they did not take my insurance and stated it would be $2700 without it. I could not afford that so I called ARA it is covered and with insurance it would be around $270. I scheduled my appointment with them and called back to tell his office I had to go elsewhere. Then It got even more strange. They tell me "Well I hope that will work for him." and "He may not be able to use it but he will try his best." I was confused, as I have had multiple scans over the years and I've never heard of such a thing. I asked, "Can he communicate what he needed to ARA?" They said, "Once he gets the report he can call the radiologist." Still confused but I went forward with my MRI because I needed to know now. Fast forward to December 19th, I get the scan. The results were nothing that I expected which was great! I had my discs and only slight arthritis on the right side. My follow-up with him was on Jan. 3, 2023 I called to ask if they got the MRI and if it was acceptable for him. Kicker! He hadn't even gotten it. They said, "We show ARA has been trying to send something let me look and ask him, and we will get back to you." No one calls for a week. I call back again and ask the same thing and get virtually the same response. It is now January 13th and I have heard nothing read more

My TMJ/TMD experience: Please note that if you don't have TMD, this is probably not pertinent to you and you should go to Dr. Peppard! I hate leaving less than 5 stars. But I feel like I owe it to my fellow TMJD sufferers to explain my experience, because I was in a really dark place and wish I had had more advice at the beginning of my ordeal. Which all started when... I was in a lot of pain after a minor dental procedure in April of 2019. My teeth were stabbing me, my facial muscles were spasming and my head/shoulders felt like they were in a vice. I didn't understand what was going on with me. After speaking to a highly respected endodontist, she recommended I see Dr. Peppard since he specializes in bite. He was the first person to diagnose me with TMD, and I'm so grateful for that. Pretty quickly after, he made me a hard acrylic splint to wear on my upper teeth, which looked like a mouthguard, something you might wear playing sports. It was clear but noticeable and embarrassing, but I made my peace with it. And I was getting out of pain! If I agreed to a permanent treatment plan, I would have to wear it 24/7 for 6 - 8 months, then go into (most likely) braces or surgery. Then, a couple months in, due to wear on the device and my jaw structure, he had to resurface it. This made it incredibly large, and with an opaque white layer in addition to the original layer. I was crying in the dental chair when I saw myself in a mirror. Besides it being uncomfortable to wear, I couldn't imagine wearing it in public for the next 6 - 8 months (or maybe longer, if I needed to). It was taking a huge toll on my self-esteem and mental health. That's when I started doing more research. There are other dentists with different treatment plans who subscribe to different schools of thought. I found two types of dentistry whose approaches and science make the most sense to me. (And have the best clout on TMD discussion groups.) Those trained in Occlusion Connections make a thinner, clear splint you wear on your lower teeth. Those trained by LVI make a lower orthotic that looks like your natural teeth. (That's who I ultimately went with--Dr. Duncan in Georgetown.) Both those schools differ from Dr. Peppard in philosophy and technology. I'm still in treatment mode, so I can't speak to a full success, but my pain has continued to decrease, and I'm thrilled about the unnoticeable appearance of the orthotic. As you'll notice, this review is more about the treatment and not necessarily about Dr. Peppard. Dr. Peppard was thorough and extremely passionate about the subject, which I appreciate. He spent hours working with me to get the fit right and accommodated me when I needed to see him because I was in pain. His dental hygienist Robin and front desk manager Julie were wonderful. The office is great. I personally talked to two other TMD patients who love Dr. Peppard and have had great success. It seems like he's been a wonderful dentist to hundreds over his 35 years in Austin. For me, personally, this was not a treatment I could handle in my life. By all means, see Dr. Peppard for a consultation. You might just need to wear the splint at night, which in my opinion is no big deal. But know that there are other options too. You just have to find the right fit for you. For those suffering through this disorder, I hope this is helpful, and wish you all the best. read more

I was so sad when my insurance changed and had to change dentists a couple of years ago. I had been going to see Dr. Peppard for over 15 years. As a little kid I brought in a Dentist Barbie and he swore I was going to become a dentist. Also because I had an obsession with taking care of my teeth from a young age. I never once got scared of going to the dentist and never felt like avoiding it like the plague. Him and his staff takes great care of the patients. You also get high quality everything. My visit wasn't very pleasant. I decided to find another dentist. Positive notes: lobby/front office very clean Negatives: It took over two days of calling at different times of day trying to reach someone but reaching a voicemail. On the following Monday, my voicemail was returned and I was scheduled. I tools notes about the appointment. The instruction I received was to go on their website and print out new patient forms and bring them in. I do not have a printer so I made plans to go to the library and pay to print out the forms. My plans fell through, so on the day of I arrived at appointment 10mins early to fill out paperwork. As I was signing in I informed the receptionist Lori that I wasn't able to bring in the paperwork. Her response "siiiiiiiiiggggghhhhh". She then gave me a brief lecture about how I now made things much harder for her, and she said I was supposed to have called her already with my insurances number so that she would've had pre authorization. I didn't put that in my notes (I cannot recall if we actually spoke on that or not). She tells me I will have to pay for the visit upfront and they (my ins) will send me check. I told her I didn't want to do that (not knowing how much the cost would be, if/when I would be reimbursed) she replied "wellll" (I don't know what to tell type of expression) I then asked her if I could reschedule and that way I would have all the paperwork and she'd have my ins information. She said okay. Then she asked me to fill out paperwork at that time to make it easier for next visit. I obliged. When finished she said "oh don't forget to email me your insurances 800 number" I said oh I look it up now. I went online to the company's website and read her the number for providers to call. It wasn't an 800 number (it is a small company) so she felt that the number must not be right. She asked if there were other numbers. (There were not) I have her the fax number as that was the only other option. She then told me well can you call them I don't want to WASTE MY TIME trying different numbers. THAT's NOT MY JOB. She told me. I said okay. Later I was thinking why she never asked me for my insurance cards/id (where all that information is located as well). I decided as I left I wouldn't be coming back. I see about 6 different doctors due to illness and I know the front desk job is stressful and annoying at time but I appreciate when ppl work with to get to a solution, not complain, tell me I'm the problem, and put more work on a patient to avoid it themselves. I also have worked in the medical field for years. Patients are rude, annoying, forgetful it's true but I never let them feel that they are that way. I handled issues with a smile, and get the job done. (Reminder calls, ask patients about paperwork, if I don't have ins info. Do a 30sec goggle search and get it ...it's literally too easy then I can have what I need even if pt doesn't) AfterAll that's decent and I was being paid to work so I'm not going to complain when work comes up.
