first time coming to rosebud on the hunt to find a place to study/work. vibes were nice, super large space but surprisingly it was a bit hard to find a table. everyone was doing some work here or just meeting up to chat. my friend and i met up to work together and he got the table before i got there. he got a cappuccino and i got a chai latte with almond milk. not what i expected, very spicy and not sweet. definitely cleared my throat during this cold rainy day but not sure if it's up my alley. but i would love to try their other drinks as well. we also split two orders, one of the spicy bird i believe and then i got the burrito. it was smaller than i thought but i know the sandwich came with a bag of chips. free wi-fi, spent about 3 hours studying here, maybe would try again. wish there were more charger ports though. read more

My first time here. Needed a coffee drink and help search this location. It's a huge space but due to covid it's roped off and will be rented for another business which I think will be a brewery. The matcha latte was delicious and had a pretty latte art on top. I ordered a bran pastry too. The staff were friendly. However, the menu was limited due to covid. This coffee spot on Colorado boulevard is a must visit for the delicious coffee and fresh pastries. They have a lot of seating inside the store with ceiling to flow windows and some outside in the font and plenty of patio seating. What drew me most to this spot is the reason they were established and the cause they support. They are an organization that support the at risk youth in Pasadena/LA with an aptly suited tag line - coffee with a cause. They have been featured on NBC news and teen Vogue for their efforts all over Los Angeles finally opening their brick and mortar location in Pasadena. This is my weekly coffee spot but I was really disappointed today. I went and ordered an iced tea, specifically asking the employee if they refill it and she said yes. When I was leaving, I asked the person at the front (different employee) for the refill and she told me that they only refill drip coffee. I told her the other employee had told me she would refill it. That other employee came over and confirmed that was what she told me. However, the second employee still refused. I told her that if I had gotten the correct information, I would have ordered a coffee instead and she just shrugged. I really want to support local coffee shops but they need to honor their own employee statements and treat their customers right. Rosebud is a beautiful space for coffee and light work. Modern open interior, with super high ceilings. This is not necessarily a morning person's spot. They are sometimes a few minutes late to open, and baristas are often half-asleep and grumpy. They detest you for making them show up to work early (it's all your fault!) The floor-to-ceiling storefront facing north floods the expansive space with the perfect amount of natural light, rain or shine. The litmus test for any good coffee shop is IMO the macchiato. One quick sip of a macchiato will answer 3 important questions about the baristas and the shop in general: 1. Is the milk burned/overheated? (visual & taste) 2. Is the machine dialed in and delivering excellent -not bitter- espresso? (taste) 3. Is the disposable cup the cheap kind with the paraffin that melts at coffee temperature leaving a tangy not-nice taste in your mouth? (Taste) I am pleased to report that Rosebud coffee consistently serves the best coffee around. From up high on Washington blvd to down low in San Marino, none of the coffee shops even compare -and that includes those that roast their own beans! Coffee for a good cause! This was my second visit to Rosebud in Pasadena. The first time, I went with Sathy. It was early morning, so I wasn't really focused. We did find free street parking right in the front! They also have parking in the back. Another good thing about this place is the free WiFi. People were hanging out in this spacious, casual place. It seemed like such a calm and clean environment for studying and getting some work done! The best thing about this place is its mission. After reading Tiffany's and John T.'s reviews, I agree with them that Rosebud is a special place. While serving up great coffee (I got a chai latte with oat milk) and yummy pastries, this small business helps youth gain job skills! I'm sure that there are way more benefits gained and successes achieved while Rosebud blossomed from a small coffee cart into a large coffee cafe. I was picking up some things in the area and figured since I was being productive, I'd treat myself to a coffee. It was a Saturday mid afternoon and there was a line for this place so I took that as a good sign. I wasn't in a rush so the wait didn't seem that offensive. Everyone was socially distanced so maybe that made the line seem longer than it really was? Either way, service was prompt and efficient, no small talk. Street parking was also really easy. I went with an iced oat milk latte and was pleased with the balanced smoothness of the drink. Sometimes you get a latte where all you taste is milk, but this one was just right. I like the location of the store, there's so many businesses around that you can really just order a coffee and go on a leisurely stroll. Hopefully we'll able to enjoy more carefree adventures like this soon. read more

Coffee with a cause! I love supporting a good cause! This cafe hires and trains formerly homeless and transitional aged youth as their baristas. They also support local businesses and nonprofits to give back to the community. + Iced lavender latte: I got this with 2% milk and it was pretty good. It was the right amount of sweetness and even after some of the ice had melted, the flavor was still there. + Strawberry almond croissant: What attracted my attention to this was the amount of almonds that was on it. There was A LOT! Usually almond croissants are topped with some sliced almonds but this one was smothered. It was very flaky and not too bready/doughy, loved it! Make sure you ask them to heat it up for you, it'll taste even better. It is extremely spacious in here and there are plenty of tables for you to get your work done. The tables are very spread out which gives you more than enough personal space. I love that there's plenty of natural light coming in, makes it a very bright and welcoming atmosphere. Coffee is not bad, their blends are pretty good and the iced americano isn't like drinking motor oil. Rose Latte 50% sweet - very little rose essence. Latte itself was just fine.. but just don't expect rose flavor or aroma here. Other places might do it not using just the sweetening syrup. I've enjoyed the pastries each time. Chocolate croissant was good, but I do recall one time they asked if I wanted it heated and I did ask for it hot. Somehow 10 minutes later I received a cold one.. but I guess it's not surprising. Ambiance is not bad either, nothing fancy but the location and layout seem to work in their favor. Only a few areas with outlets so that's something to keep in mind. My only gripe with this place is that the service is just OK. I always kind of get the vibe of snobby high end coffee joint from the employees and I keep questioning as to why tip every time for service which really isn't earned. Regardless just come in with the expectation of decent coffee and kind of meh service and you'll be good. read more

Have been here numerous times. Excellent spot! Not only is everything for a great cause but the space itself is done so nicely! Great light, airy space, friendly baristas, free wifi, great coffee, nice selection of treats, play area for the kids...fantastic. I've come a few times to study and loved the seating and the multiple outlets throughout the seating areas. No more searching for a place to plug in. On my last visit I brought my kids with me and it was perfect. They were able to play and I was able to work on school work. My only complaint is their hours. I wish they were open later and on Sundays. But I can't knock them down a star for that! Highly recommend :) read more

We stayed there so long that we felt guilty for taking up a table and decided to hit up a coffee shop for a little more talk time. She mentioned she'd heard of Rosebud Coffee but had never been, and it seemed like a good place to go. Clean. Orderly. Friendly baristas. Oh, and lavender lemonade. I'm not a huge fan of lavender, but it's growing on me, and it was a very nice lemonade. I also had an iced mocha, because who doesn't need a good caffeine kick? My friend and I got some good talk time with some good beverages in a nice environment. I've been a regular here since I moved to Pasadena in 2020. Overall, I like the neighborhood atmosphere here and the drinks and small plates are consistently good. However, there have been a few times recently where I've experienced poor customer service. Today especially, I ordered a sandwich and after 20 mins of not coming out, I asked the barista about it and she told me they were thawing it and then they'll prepare it. I was a little annoyed because they could have told me that when I ordered it but thought, oh well, at least they didn't forget our order. After 18 more minutes go by, I go back to ask about the sandwich and one barista tells me someone took it and the other one says they put it in as a burrito. Both are confusing responses and different from what I was originally told. From there, I received no apologies, just a stern...it'll be ready in 6 mins. I know mistakes happen but I was really annoyed by the customer service. After 45 mins of waiting we finally got our sandwich with still no apologies. I truly hope the customer service gets better here or is more consistent because I want to support local businesses like this one. read more

Found out about Rosebud Coffee after seeing John T's review for this place. I was pretty taken with their mission statement - they started out with just a small coffee cart, traveling around LA to give work to the homeless and young adults to practice perfecting making a great cup of coffee. Now that they've found a physical location in Pasadena, they hope to continue their mission statement by working hand in hand with Wild Goose of Redlands to provide a barista training partnership for these transitional aged youth to begin serving at coffee at events with their mobile coffee cart. It feels good to support something beyond just an actual business, so I went to try it out as soon as possible. The storefront is on Sierra Madre and Colorado Blvd. Rosebud shares a space with Chirp (a kid's karaoke studio). Very modern looking furniture with tables, chairs, booths spread out over the entire space. Open windows, high ceilings, neutral color tones that makes it a soothing place to study or have some alone time while enjoying a nice cup of coffee. Rosebud serves coffee, various pastries, tea, granola, salads, sandwiches, wraps, as well as a kid's menu. Prices are not too bad, especially for a coffee shop in Pasadena. I ended up ordering a flat white ($3.50) - all the photos of the drinks looked pretty nice with the latte art on top, and after finding out that a flat white is basically like a latte, only there's less steamed milk and more coffee taste (according to John!) - I decided to go with that. I was a little disappointed that the latte art looked like a weird blob that was supposed to be a heart flower, but ended up getting destroyed in the process. But oh well - the flat white tasted rich and smooth. I can definitely see why people prefer this over a latte - a tad bit stronger and slightly more bitter than a latte, but was still creamy and tasty. Cup wasn't too big - and I definitely got a kick of energy after drinking this. It kicked in an hour or so later. I was so jittery that it was hard to focus. Tons of street parking, but there's also a lot in the back. Workers are super friendly. No minimum for credit cards either. There's WiFi available and lots of spaces to study; doesn't get too busy during weekdays. tl;dr - A very good coffee shop located in Pasadena that's not in the Old Town area, with a purposeful mission behind what they do. Husband's a big fan and a regular customer so he dropped me off here to wait for him. I was going to go for their day-old pastries, which at 50% off Starbucks prices seemed decent. However, I ended up getting the honey milk toast with orange marmalade. I love a good milk toast, and although this was no brick toast, it was delicious and I ended up adding more marmalade than I had initially planned. For coffee, I went for the George Harrison, which I think has maple syrup. It was delicious though not as hot as I like my coffee and not very big. I ordered for here, so I'm not sure why they use to go boxes and disposable cups, but the cup for my $5.75 latte was about the size of a small water cup. Hmm. What was most interesting is while I read my ebook and took notes for my classes I discovered many students who did not purchase anything and were eating and drinking their own stuff while using the free WiFi. This explains the high prices. It makes sense and I'm not against it because clearly not everyone can afford to buy something every time they need WiFi/internet. I drank my own bottled water too!
