Excellent views, amazingly cute&nostalgic. A Good place for coffee. I had seafood stew in a red sauce - the shrimps were okay but all the rest of the seafood was so over cooked in the sauce that I could not taste the seafood flavors. There were tomatoes and peppers that took over the dish both by quantity and taste. I only ate one third of the bowl of stew and the waiter never asked how I liked it or why I didn't eat more. Roseanna's is a quaint cafe with one of the best views you could ask for on the coast. Our eggs were a-ok. The menu is a mixture of seafood and nonseafood items (not always easy to find along the coast). They also have a decent wine and bottled beer list. The dessert menu is where they shine - there are a ton of options, all homemade, and the cakes we tried were excellent. Service was friendly. Sure prices were a bit on the high end, but you can't beat the view. They have highchairs and my heir-apparent enjoyed the panorama from our windowside table. After eating, you just need to cross the street to climb down to the beach. I'd definitely return. read more

My wife, mom, and daughter and I were up for the week from California. This was our second night, and we stopped in Oceanside at Roseanna's for dinner, which was a fantastic decision. We all had something off the special menu, except for my 5 year old daughter, who had the kids snapper plate. Everything was delicious. I had an almond crusted salmon, served on a bed of blueberries and apples with a zingy vinaigrette. My wife had a Cajun halibut, which was perfectly, and noticeably spicy. My mom had the appetizer size serving of crab cakes, which were awesome and generous. Everybody left happy and full. Great service and great food deserve a review. Great view but the wait and cost not worth the average food. Bummer because this could be a gem. The menu descriptions sound fabulous. The vibe is fantastic - would paneling, red bar stools, mostly great and friendly staff (obviously a little overworked). But I'm pretty sure the seafood was frozen. On the coast, $20+ entrees, frozen seafood? Meh. Killer view though. And in Oceanside it is the ONLY restaurant open past 3pm on some days so... they got you there. We could walk there from where we were staying. I would not bother driving here. At least not this week. I did overhear they are looking to hire a new chef though. Ate here last weekend. Took a while to post a review but didn't forget the good experience. We were gonna go to the Schooner in Netarts but the prices were ridiculous and the wait staff rude so we ended up in Oceanside--which I'm glad we did. The wait staff was super friendly and we got seated right at the window overlooking the beautiful ocean with the cool breeze filtering in the screen door. The food was pretty damn good. I can't remember the name of what I got but it had shrimp on an English muffin and it was just damn yummy. The clam chowder was delicious too. For dessert I got one of their mini apple pies warmed up and it was amazing. I'd definitely go back! You don't need to pay almost $30 at Schooners! read more

We probably first ate here about 1994 and many times since. Unfortunately, I sense a decline. The superior food at this quaint place used to justify the above-average pricing but no more. I think the menu prices are now indexed to the values of the adjacent view properties and a clientele of Oceanside elites. This past Friday, before 6pm, they were already sold out of the ling cod special and one other special. Out of two of three 'specials' before the weekend has started, ouch, not good planning. We settled for the pan fried oysters which were unremarkable. (Oysters from Washington; why they don't use the local Netarts oysters which are the best available instead?) The appetizer of steamers (imported) was very good and had lots of broth to sop the bread. The low point was the Cioppino. I was suspicious of the big, flat, dry looking piece of salmon tail meat protruding from the soup. I handle a lot of salmon and am well aware that the salmon tail is the toughest cut of meat on a salmon. Well not only was it tough as expected but it had that fishy smell and taste that quality salmon ought not have. I suspect this was an old, freezer burned piece. Whoever buys fish for Roseanna's shouldn't have accepted it and the chef most definitely shouldn't have passed in on to a customer. Really inexcusable. Pretty damn expensive for food that was mediocre to, in the case of the salmon tail meat, best suited as pet food. While the view isn't as good as that of Roseanna's, I think the folks down at The Schooner are producing better quality dinners using, fresh and local food, at reasonable prices. read more

We just experienced an unwelcoming atmosphere at this coastal restaurant. We drive out of our way to come to Roseannas for coffee and dessert. As soon as the waitress found out we were not there for dinner her smile disappeared, and we were told we could not sit at any of the several open tables that had a view. Instead, we had to sit in the entryway. Then we asked for half of our dessert to be put in a take out container( something we have done here several times), and the waiter balked, until I mentioned we had had it this way in the past. Wife and I met some friends here, prior to that the only time I had ever been to Oceanside was last year for a little run on the beach. Little did I know that this gem of an eatery existed, watching over me that day. Stated simply, the beach front seating and quality of food was as good as it gets. I love pan-fried oysters but never order them, as there is always something else on the menu that outranks them. Well, they won-out this night, and man was that a great choice! When the weather is fair and visibility is unlimited, the Oregon Coast is a delight to explore. I'm indebted to my friend, Thomas, for his recommendation of Roseanna's Oceanside Cafe. While visiting Cannon Beach, the scenic drives are irresistible. Tom had "discovered" Roseanna's, and that was the lunchtime objective for three couples who appreciate the coast. Located about 11-12 miles west of Tillamook on Route 131, off the Three Capes Scenic Loop, the cafe is nicely located. Oceanside (OR) is not a large town; as you enter it, look seaward and you'll probably find Roseanna's without difficulty. As we enjoyed our lunch, surfers and sea kayakers enjoyed the shore. Outdoor temperature was 65-66 deg. F, and sunny. Beautiful day...and a beautiful view. Roseanna's is open 7 days a week for much of the year, but closes on Wednesdays from December to February, usually the stormiest, bleakest months for weather on the Oregon coast. We enjoyed our seafood, our chowders, our freshly baked breads, and Roseanna's Cafe is locally popular but it is not large. With good timing, you can enjoy a table by the large windows, so I'd recommend avoiding the peak lunch/dinner hours. We enjoyed our lunches, and the dessert choices were more extensive than I would expect from a small establishment that is somewhat off the beaten track. I was told the dessert chef was a graduate of the Western Culinary Institute in Portland, which speaks well for that training. Briefly, Roseanna's Cafe was a lunch experience I'd recommend to others on this forum. If you set an occasional weekend aside to explore the Oregon coast without time constraints or haste, you will enjoy many discoveries, and I think Roseanna's will be one of them. read more

So disappointed! We stayed in Oceanside 12 years ago and only discovered Roseanna's on our last day. So when we returned to Oceanside we couldn't wait to eat there again. They were closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so we waited no-so-patiently for them to open on the 26th. The only thing truly good about the meal was the bottle of Oregon Chardonnay. I started with clam chowder. Way too much dill and corn starch (or other thickening agent) and not enough clam or potato. My husband and I had the same special of the day, cod with a mustard caper sauce. Blech! Way over seasoned for cod or any other fish for that matter. The mustard was probably Beaver deli mustard, which is fabulous on you favorite roast beef deli sammie, but way over powering for cod. I was expecting more of a mellow Dijon mustard. Then the sides were bad too. Jasmine rice cooked to mush and broccoli and cauliflower steamed perfectly but ruined by too much pepper. Then there was my daughter's dish. Penne pasta with pear Gorgonzola sauce with dried cranberries. It looked more like soup and again way over-seasoned. She's picky, so I tried a bite just to confirm. Blech! Since we were still hungry, I ordered a dessert. Big mistake. Chocolate cake that was probably yummy when fresh topped with a good inch and a half of whipped cream and some crumbled toffee all of which was sitting pre-assembled in the fridge way too long. This was probably due to the time of year, but we weren't the only patrons at the time and many of the houses in this great little town were occupied for the holidays. By accident on Saturday I ended up driving by Roseanna's and we decided to stop in. I just loved the place. Super funky and old fashioned with chintz curtains, an ocean view, in a very old house. It was pure Americana. We thought the menu looked wonderful, although it was more expensive than I would have expected. I think the reason is that they make everything themselves with really good ingredients including a lot of locally sourced. We had had a really big late lunch and needed to drive back to Portland, and it was very hot. We ended up just getting dessert. I am still thinking about these incredible desserts! I had the marionberry cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The berries were warm, the cobbler biscuit was divine and the vanilla ice cream was just a nice human sized little scoop. My friend got the crumble with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and marionberries with a topping of homemade granola. We has coffee with this and the coffee was excellent. I lived in France and Switzerland for a huge portion of my life and I am a great cook and a gourmet. I was so impressed with this place. A friend from my Paris days is visiting from Crete, where he now lives, and I am taking him there for sure. It is so rare in these days to find such authentic American cuisine in the pioneer idiom, like the food I grew up on in the mid-west where the women cooked unbelievably well and lavishly, all the ingredients were fresh and everything was homemade. Later living in France and Switzerland I saw the roots of that style of cuisine. And I found it Saturday in this funky little place with the panoramic view of the Pacific. I would add that the staff was very nice and they employed "women of a certain age" and they were classy and kind. The chef smiled out of the kitchen as I came up to be seated. The place was quiet and civilized, the people eating there were nice and friendly and smiled at other tables and made eye contact. It was not trendy, but rather authentic and real. I could not recommend it more highly to those who understand the words I am writing. If you don't get this review, please go to a big corporately owned chain restaurant somewhere else. read more

This. Place. Was. Delicious. We drove out of our way home from Tillamook to have our last honeymoon meal here. The place we meant to go was closed and we walked across the street and man did we luck out!! I had the salmon with lemon herb butter and my husband had the Tuesday special cod. We loved it!!! Came with bread, potatoes and clam chowder- best clam chowder we've ever had. Way better than Mo's! (Sorry). All of it was so great and we will be coming back! As a whim, up from the beach I stopped by this little establishment along the street and I was surprised to find it rather full which is a good sign. The staff was exceptionally kind, I didn't feel rushed, the menu just long enough and intricate enough to keep your attention without feeling like you are being overwhelmed. I ordered the salmon, it was perfectly cooked and the sides to boot were equally fresh tasting and seasoned to perfection. A delicate touch was adding the fresh cut herbs and flowers from literally behind the restaurant to the plates themselves, very impressed by that. The only reason I know this is that the garden is visible from inside the restaurant as it sits on a hill overlooking the beach. I cannot stress this enough, it is rare to find a restaurant with this much authenticity and dedication to its roots. Ten stars read more

Overpriced is the only thing I can think of to accurately describe this place. I don't mind paying a high price tag for a quality experience but these high prices were not for quality of food but more because they are the only place in Oceanside open at night. The very small appetizer crab cakes were $19 just to give you an idea. They were average. In addition to this they were out of about half the menu. It got to the point where we had to ask them to point out what they DID have...rather than keep wasting time trying to choose a new item. The bread, which should be edible was very chewy and the butter they gave was hard butter pats wrapped in foil. Again.. For the prices they charge.. The best (and by best I mean worst) part was the handwritten piece of paper with the specials written in it with misspelled words and several items scratched out. This place is small and off the beaten track. I was a little skeptical at first since the restaurant looked old and outdated. My friend and I decided to escape to the coast for a day. We can't speak for their regular menu items, since I was more intrigued to try their desserts. The desserts were amazing. The Marionberry cobbler with ice cream was divine. Very sweet and the ice cream made it complete. We asked our server what her favorite dessert was, and she recommended the lemon sponge pudding cake with Marionberry sauce. This was very good too. It tastes similar to a lemon creme brûlée since the lemon cream on the bottom melted in my mouth. The different tastes to my palete was an attraction. I was very satisfied, but almost wanted more. I would come back for the view and the desserts. We were glad we tried this place. No regrets. Go on an off time since this place is quite small and can get overcrowded for lunch. read more

This place is very small, they don't take reservations and you can expect to wait a while to get seated (we waited about 30 minutes). That said, the interior of this place is charming. Unfortunately we weren't lucky enough to snag a table directly in front of a window but frankly, the place is so small that you almost have a view from any table. (The window seats were pretty damn nice though). OK...so our table wasn't great but the food was. I had the lingcod with caramelized onions and a hazelnut crust and was thoroughly impressed. The vegetables were absolutely fresh and with a light sauté of butter they were delicious. I was a little disappointed that my choice of roasted potatoes meant whole potatoes but they had good flavor. If memory serves this meal was around $25 which I considered a very reasonable price. My gf had a scallop pasta which was equally good and reasonably priced. I'm of the impression that charging for bread is tacky so I was a little disappointed to see that they charge $2 for a very small loaf of bread but in the grand scheme of things who gives a shit. As an aside, the service was a little slow but then again I was hungry and had already waited 30 minutes so the minutes seemed like hours. What I will say is that they aren't fucking around when it comes to checking ID's of anyone who buys alcohol. The problem with that is at night this place is dimly lite and they make a big production of checking the date on your ID. For instance...the old gal that checked my girlfriend's ID appeared to have never seen a ODL before. The ID says "not 21 until..." but the old girl was still perplexed (she's 25 btw). She took the idea into the back room for no less than 4 minutes at which time she came back and asked questions about how long she had had the ID and how old she was. VERY awkward in a small setting. Shit...the old girl has me wondering if my girlfriend is on a terrorist watch list or something. I'll need to check it out. (btw...this is a standard ODL...nothing unique about it and it has never been questioned). All in all though, this place is a real treat. Just cross your fingers if you have to show ID. read more

Located on a hilltop with a killer view of the ocean, this place never ceases to impress me. It's a small restaurant, and the decor doesn't really match the menu, but the food is worth the trip. From the outside, Roseanna's appears to be no more than a run-of-the-mill beach shack coffee shop. Inside, it could be confused with a 90's comfortable country style living room mashed with a late 70's diner. The fine dining table settings, by contrast, were a bit of a surprise upon my first visit. I expected the menu to entail the typical burgers and fried food you would expect from the ambiance, but was pleasantly surprised to find a far more sophisticated menu. The service was prompt, and courteous. The food was hot and ready very quickly. I could go on for days about the food. I would not be surprised to find that all of their entrees are made from scratch. I have tried the seafood at several nearby restaurants, and Roseanna's is better by far. The fish was cooked to perfection and paired with a thoughtful selection of complimentary flavors. On subsequent visits, I have tried other selections, and have never left disappointed. Dinner will leave you plenty satisfied, but you must, MUST, save room for desert, or at least take it to go. I highly recommend the Marionberry Cobbler or the Chocolate Carmel Crunch Cake. Calories be damned, you owe it to your tastebuds! For what it lacks in fine-dining polish (and perhaps a more sophisticated wine menu) Roseanna's makes up for in charm, warmth and amazing food. My husband and I went here for dinner while on a camping trip nearby. It wasn't inexpensive, but we did get what we paid for and it was great! My husband had ling cod, the special that evening, and he is not a fish fan but he loved it. I had salmon and it was very good. The side of potatoes could have been warmer, but I was concentrating on the fish. My husband had the rice cakes which I tasted, and it was really good. We had carrot cake and marionberry cobbler for dessert. Delicious!
