Stopped in on a Sunday morning right when they opened. It's in a cute building that is a former Masonic Lodge, so it has lots of character. The very friendly staff person walked us through all the pastries in the case, all of which are made in house. We got a raspberry brioche that was delicious and a marionberry scone that also was quite tasty. We also split a couple breakfasts - an omelette that came with hashbrowns and homemade bread and the special crab quiche. Also ordered a couple bottomless drip coffees and a vanilla steamer for the kids to split. Everything was excellent. We also felt like it was a quality place, because they have real fruit jellies on the table plus Mrs. Meyers handsoap in the bathroom - small things, but they matter. Cost also seemed more than reasonable. We will definitely be back! read more

Found this cute little place while traveling through. My daughter got a cinnamon roll, which she loved. It was very flavorful and moist. I got an AMAZING strawberry cream cheese filled pastry! The filling was warm and the perfect level of sweet and creamy. I didn't catch the name of the dessert, but will definitely be heading back for more. read more

We stopped for breakfast at the homey, sweet cafe along Hwy 101. Fresh baked goods! Cappuccinos and lattes were great. Bacon was thick and crispy, and they've got all the basics for breakfast. I'd stop again when in the area! Nice folks running it. Service was not too quick but we were a group of eight. read more

The hubby and I were just rolling through and needed a cup of coffee and a bakery item for the road home, we are so glad we stopped here! She warmed the cinnamon roll for me and it was delicious, my almond latte was perfect (not too sweet, tasted like Starbucks honestly, but $2 less than a Starbucks latte!) and the maple bar donut changed our life. I wanted to turn the car around to get more!!! If we find ourselves rolling through this cute little beach town again we will definitely give some items on their breakfast menu a try. Yum! read more

Had breakfast here one morning before I had to return to Portland and catch my flight home and had some delightful blueberry pancakes and fresh-made thick slices of bacon. Had a gorgeous view of the bay and the lady who runs the place is really friendly and open. If I actually lived in Portland, I would have no hesitation in taking some cinnamon rolls and baked goods home because they looked amazing. My husband and I passed by, not noticing that it was a resturant as well as a bakery, until we were already past it. We looked at other options to eat but for whatever reason chose the former. Food is fresh. High priced. Service? Didn't exist. We felt as if we were inconviencing the waitress. One cup of coffee the whole time we were there. And it arrived after our food. Never checked back. I meant to write this review two years ago, when we first discovered it, and this morning we went back and had the same brilliant experience. It's charming and welcoming; it actually reminds me of a place that we went in Portland when I was a kid, full of vintage tables even more adorable table cloths, the fluffiest pancakes and just that sense that they wanted you to come back again and again. (The pancakes were last time, with our little girls.) Today my omelette was full of perfectly cooked vegetables and the cinnamon roll made with brioche dough literally melted in my mouth (and I'm using the word literally correctly. And the gravy in my husband's biscuits was soooo good. (He loved the rest of his meal but I can't vouch for it because he doesn't share.) We'll be heading there for a peach scone and an apple fritter on the way out of town tomorrow ;) read more

Great bakery/cafe along 101 . Along the road, we picked up some bakery items to have with coffee later. They ended up being the best bakery of the trip. The cinnamon rolls were perfect and tender. Loved this quiet friendly cafe! The owner greeted us warmly and quickly brought our beverages. The bay view from our antique table was pleasant. It's in the old Masonic Hall in Wheeler and has an old timey charm. Our breakfast omelets were filled with fresh vegetables, the hash browns from scratch and the polenta toast delicious. We finished our meal with a just right homemade cinnamon roll. The lovely owner spent time telling us the history behind the name....ask her! They do breakfast and lunch as well as selling bread and pastries. This is a real bakery, a pleasant surprise. My wife and I had a sandwich each and were delighted. A good sandwich is hard to find in this part of the world. They tend to be tasteless meat on Wonderbread. Handy Creek does a good sandwich and good coffee. Wanted to like this little mom and pop cafe. It was clean and they were really great at keeping everyone's coffee cups topped off. (I don't drink coffee but noticed they did outstanding in that department. It appeared that it was a 2 person (mom and pop) operation. Mom taking orders, and delivering drinks and food, Pop seemed to be the cook. They were very busy- most tables filled and could have used an extra set of hands. The juice was overpriced for the amount you were give.- 2 or maybe 3 ounces- super small juice cups from many years ago. Food was good- not outstanding, but good. Was looking forward to having some of their baked goods to take home for snacks later but the large case was very sparse. It was Sunday around noon and they are closed Monday and Tuesday so it made sense. We would go back, but it wouldn't be one of our first choices. read more

While the baked goods are out of this world amazing (scones especially). Have yet to enjoy the quiche but all other breakfast items are wonderful! Ambiance is shabby chic and quaint. Great place to have breakfast/brunch. Only down side is unless you get in EARLY they will be out of pastries and not making more for the day. We have been a few different times about 10:30 or 11am and the pastries are almost completely gone with no additional being made although they don't close until 3pm. We came here almost two years ago when I think they'd recently opened and it was yummy. We just ate here again this week and it's gotten even better! Not sure there's a lemon on their menu to be found - really impressive selection of homemade stuff for a smaller restaurant. everything we ordered was so very tasty. I just made my first visit to Handy Creek Bakery, and it was great! I had an americano and a strawberry scone, and both were fantastic. The americano was smooth and medium-bold, and the scone seemed super fresh. It was golden on the outside, soft in the middle, not too sugary, and had a delightful bit of orange zest. read more

Very delicious. Stopped the first day for bakery (cinnamon roll and brioche bun) and the breakfast looked and smelled so good we came back the next day for that. The Wheeler Special omelette with sun-dried tomatoes was great. Nice home baked tasting bread for the toast and homemade jam. Everything was great and we will definitely be back.
