If your looking for a place were you feel welcome from the moment you walk in the door then keep looking. I'm not sure what has happened to true, classic service on the Oregon Coast. Not so long ago you would walk into a Resturant, a local business, a shop of any kind and employees were happy to see you and grateful for your business. With a few exceptions this feeling is dying in most businesses. The ownership has empowered employees with zero skin in the game to be the speaking agents for their business. I don't think that the message we get as consumers matches what the ownership would want. When I walked into the Big Wave Cafe tonight I got nothing but attitude from a young lady who acted very overwhelmed with the amount of customers in the Resturant. The place was very busy. Lots of staff standing back in the food prep area. Just standing and talking. I could tell she was stressed. Long story short I was made to feel as if I was a burden and unwelcome. I was prepared to spend 50.00 on a steak and another togo meal for my wife. Nothing but attitude from this young lady. I simply got up and walked out. There was another couple with two small children who walked out just after me. We spoke for a brief moment as they looked upset. They got the same experience. The food is good from what my group said . Mine was good just a basics fish sandwich The service was decent the waiter checked on us and filled waters when low . For me the problem was the portion size compared to the price. If I am will to pay the price of a fish sandwich then I expect a big piece of fish and more than 17 fries ( I counted mine ) . One of the best Halibut Fish and Chips I have had in a long time. I love Fish and Chips, eaten all over the world and also make my own at home, this one here was perfectly panko coated crisp, Fish was fresh and fries nice and crunchy crisp. My wife had the chicken sandwich which was also excellent. Jordan our host was gracious and later found that the Chef was her husband Lucas and owned by their parents. Ventured over here for lunch and wow, it did not disappoint! My grandma and I both just a clam chowder bread bowl-rookie mistake, they were so big we could have just shared one XD the prices are on the higher side, but when you see the portions it makes sense lol. We were on a little road trip on the Oregon coast and wanted to stop for some seafood! We stopped at big wave cafe! My husband got the catch of the day and I had the crab cakes. The cod sandwich was absolutely FRESH AND DELICIOUS! The fish was flaky and the bun very soft. The crab cakes were not my favorite. They had an extremely fishy flavor. I took one bite and couldn't finish them :( . While the crab cakes were not fresh the sever was great and took Them off the bill. I can appreciate great customer service and they had that. He has accused me of not responding to his attempt made to contact me. I did generate a reply to the message via Yelp I received within approximately forty-eight hours of his written message posted. In my reply I suggested, to him that he might as an owner spend more time and energy on presentation of food served at his eatery. I also added that he might want to consider the quality of the food offered. He claims he gave me an opportunity to retract my review, that the restaurant would make my food once again if I had informed them of my disgust and that I ate my meal in mostly its entirety. This is his claim. Certainly was not my experience, nor what I perceived to be the case. My response was generated timely, concisely, and above all accurately. It in fact was my experience. I had no intention of retracting my original review generated. It was in fact the experience I had. I found food to be under cooked, and this may in fact be a on off. Once seated we were passed by numerous times while trying in vain to get water, order and pay the bill. We sat watching our food sit on the pass for a good five minutes before it was finally delivered, downside of a nearly empty restaurant I presume. Sitting on the manzanita side of 101 it's an easy place to pass by, which we had done for years. As far as character goes there is nearly none inside or out. Prices are steep, food is handmade to order, fresh and well prepared. Happy we were not in a rush to go anywhere. Would I go back, maybe to see if they were having an off day and had more seasoned wait staff on hand in the summer season. Won't be in a hurry to return. read more

When you walk in the door, you are greeted by signs indicating all the local businesses where Big Wave sources their fish and other ingredients. It set a great tone for our lunch. The restaurant is on 101 and has ample parking, and while the interior isn't special, it has a mix of booths, large tables, and stools at the counter. The food and service were great during our visit. Our party ordered halibut sandwiches and the daily special which was a Ling Cod sandwich. The standard side are fries, but a couple of us upgraded to a side salad (enjoyed the marionberry vinaigrette) and chowder. Coffee is by local roaster, Sleepy Monk, and they had a nice selection of other drinks. This was a restaurant I've passed so many times as I make the turn to Manzanita, so I was happy to finally give them a new try. New ownership team this year and it was a place I would definitely return. read more

This is a great little place we found through Yelp. We were staying in Rockaway and wanted to take our son-in-law out to dinner someplace different. We are always up for trying something good. This place is terrific. It's family owned. The son (sorry, didn't get his name) greeted us and sat us and was our server. Great service all around. Great food. I had the prawns and they were excellent. Both husband and SIL were happy with their dinners also. It was loud as there was an adult birthday party next to us, but that's OK. We like this place so much that we brought our daughter when she visited. Again, great service and food. Our meal here was just ok. Service wasn't notable as good or even friendly, really. The food was either just ok or bad. Ruben sandwich and fish&chips were a no, the fish sandwich was ok but pretty bland. The prices were also the steepest amongst all of the restaurants we ate at last weekend, by a couple bucks each meal. Overall, just not something to return for unfortunately. read more

After a day filled with activities we decided to come here for a late lunch, early dinner. Glad they are open throughout the day. Wasn't busy at all when we arrived, good amount of parking that shares with a weed dispensary. Friendly greetings as we entered and sat us at a comfy booth and off we went. We decided to get a few sandwiches to share between us, we got.... Halibut Sandwich: fried up perfectly, huge halibut that hung over the bun because we all love that, panko crust was awesome! Hot Club House: hot as in temperature and spicy! Was a honker of a sandwich and very good! Ham & Cheese with Bacon, spicy jalapenos, lettuce, tomato on a tasty ciabatta. I'm ok with my sandwich getting messy after getting into it. I will note that their fries are REALLY good, probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Super crisp, seemed to be double fried and that's what I'm about! Definitely no leftovers on our end which means we were pretty full and didn't partake in dessert. Overall, the food was really good. It was fresh and tasty. But it was the smallest portions I have ever seen. I paid $26 for a Caesar salad with salmon. Which isn't a bad price but the flavor was okay. If I am paying that much, I do expect a bit more. They only think it has, it tastes fresh. I had add salt, pepper and some lemon to help the little fish out. My little sister had the chicken sandwich and it was apparently the best chicken sandwich she ever had. The service was good. She was very attentive and gave us water pretty frequently. The ambiance is okay. Nothing crazy. So 4/5. It was okay in my opinion. Maybe I would get the chicken sandwich. read more
