There is also seating inside and upstairs. The line was out the door so we placed a mobile order. The food was ready in about 15 minutes. Everything was hot and fresh. The people working there were genuinely kind and clearly working very hard to provide excellent food and service. We had lunch here today, a Monday. We arrived just before noon and beat the rush. Located off the main drag of Hemlock Street catty-corner to the public restrooms and near the police station, you order at the counter and they give you a numbered table marker and they bring your food to you. Or, you can order online and pick it up. Seating is basic: window counter seating, tables indoor, or outdoor seating including a second story terrace. We elected to eat indoors due to the wind. One annoying thing was that the metal chairs made a horrible racket when shifted on the cement floor. We both had the fish and chips and upgraded from cod to halibut at $25 each. I really liked how they had different seating options so you can sit based on your preference. Both their main floor and upstairs had indoors and outdoor seating that is covered, protecting you from the rain. Their outdoor seating also had a few firepits that can make your meal extra cozy. Five stars for Ecola Seafood, a humble cathedral of fried sea life tucked into Cannon Beach. We arrived on a Monday with six stomachs and just as many appetites. The line was moderate, but the staff was brisk and bright-eyed. Though they offered QR codes for ordering like some silicon valley lobster shack, we went analog and talked to a human being. Imagine that. The counterperson gave us a placard with a number and a mission. Sit. Wait. Listen for your number to be called. Outside, we found a table with a gas fire pit in the center that glowed like the heart of a good decision. It was chilly in the shade with a breeze that smelled of salt and maybe stories, but that fire warmed us right up. Within ten minutes our number was called. Salvation comes fast sometimes. I had the halibut fish and chips. The fish was as light as truth and flaked into pieces with the gentlest nudge. The batter was crisp without being greasy. You could write sonnets about the texture alone. Alongside it came a cup of clam chowder that was everything it needed to be and more. Rich. Substantial. Comforting. I drank a can of local dry apple cider that snapped and sparkled and wiped the palate clean like a custodian who loves his work. A friend beside me ordered the Captain's Feast and donated her oyster to my cause. That oyster, my friend, was perfect. Briny, slippery, defiant. It tasted like it remembered the sea, which it probably did as it was likely there yesterday. Everyone in our party left happy. The vibes here are unpretentious and sincere. A place where nothing is trying too hard and everything is simply done well. If more of the world were like Ecola Seafood, there might be less need for conflict. Go. Eat. My best friend, his partner and I day trip to Cannon Beach for his birthday. The area was extremely cute, we decided to diner at Ecola Seafood before heading back to Portland tbh I was unimpressed.. This afternoon my wife and I paid $93 for crab cakes, halibut, clam strips, coleslaw, chowder and wine. We were very disappointed. We knew that it was counter service, bus our own dishes, and noisy. However the tarter and cocktail sauces tasted store-bought. The halibut was dry. The chowder was the best course, but still unremarkable. In fact nothing was memorable except the crab cakes. They had almost no crab in them. Seriously, they were almost entirely bread stuffed griddle cakes. They should not be on the menu. I'm sorry to sound harsh, I do love family businesses. I know you all work unimaginably hard in a very competitive industry, and I wish you success. In my humble opinion that means you should cut your prices or dramatically improve your offering. Came in today to get some salmon to take home to grill. I got 2 filets, which they wrapped in plastic and gave me a bag of ice to keep them on till I got home. Omg! Put some Cajun seasoning on them and grilled them on my treager for 15-18 minutes. Literally one of the best pieces of fish I've ever had. My wife and I are still talking about how good this was. Many people order the Melts here, but me it's gotta be the oysters or the mussels. The latter are cold and smoked and perfect. The oysters, batter deep fried to perfection and piping hot when they hit the counter. The outside is crispy crunchy and the inside is juicy and tender and soft as velvet. I've had oysters all over the U.S. and IMHO these are the very best. Don't mess around, order the oysters. This place is super popular, so expect a line out to the door. But do not despair, it moves quickly. When at last you achieve the order counter, you'll place your order and get a number. when called (it's announced over the PA system), hustle over to the left side of the counter to pick up your numbered tray. We came here twice for lunch during a week in Cannon Beach. The first time for classic fish & chips and chowder, which were good! I like that it's an order counter, and self-seating. We sat upstairs and had a fun view of the are. The second time we tried something different: from the cold case we got crab cocktails, and the salmon dip / spread, a "cannon ball" of sourdough (from the bakery up the street I think) which you don't even have to wait for, and then we walked across the street to the the park and had a nice picnic table lunch there.
