This amount of line equates to a one hour wait for food
    Marcus J.

The food is fairly excellent, let's just get that out of the way. If you're willing to wait for it, Bowpicker's spin on fish and chips using albacore tuna is exquisite. The tuna is meatier so you get like fish nuggets almost. I don't think it's better than halibut for fish and chips, but it's an inspired choice. The steak fries are very good and perfectly cooked too. The tartar sauce tasted a little bland. I'm not sure if it's made in house or not. You know my opinion of the food. Now listen and be warned if you come to this place based off any influencer's recommendation. They will tell you the line moves quickly. This is a LIE. The line moves incredibly slowly. You will feel like you are at Six Flags waiting on a rollercoaster. The line was not even half way down the sidewalk by the fish stand, and it took us nearly 45 minutes to even get on the platform to order our food. By the time we got our food it was an hour. It is SLOW going. No fish and chips is worth this wait. I don't have access to their income statement. I don't know if they can afford to increase labor costs. But hiring one person to either cook, plate, or ring people up would spend this thing up a bit. Two people doing everything is asking a lot. The food is 5/5, the wait is 1/5.

In downtown Astoria on a small side street there is an old wood boat parked on the side of the road. I first came here 11 years ago and the food was just as good now as I first remember. The menu is simple, fish & chips, extra fish, extra chips and some drinks. The fish is tuna and is cooked to perfection. There is almost always a line from what I remember and what I witnessed this time again, so prepare yourself to wait. It is worth the wait.

Probably the smallest line you'll see

Grabbing fresh fish n chips from a place built into a boat wasn't on my bingo card this year but it was absolutely incredible. The fish is super tender, the breading is flavorful but not overpowering and the tartar sauce hits the spot. Also, the portions are huge! We got the full basket with 3 extra nuggets and we struggled to finish. Glad we made the stop and braved the line :)

So the reviews said line moves fast but we spent a good hour there. I did a calculation. For a group of two ordering one meal each takes about 3-5 min. We had a group of two in the front that ordered at least 6 meals so they took much longer. I'd call those fish nuggets. They are very fulfilling. I still prefer cod/halibut if it's fish and chips. It would be nice if the business could handout numbers so ppl don't have to wait in such a long line but I understand it's fried food that can't wait. The team of 3 works hard but could have a more efficient business model perhaps ?

This place is always worth the wait. It's got a best fish and chips in town and dare I say the best in all of the Oregon. Positives: -the best fish and chips I've ever had. They use tuna which gives a more meaty texture. Secondly, the batter they use is seasoned really well. You honestly don't even need the sauce. -prices were very good. Even though it's gone up over the years it's still very good for the amount you get. And did I mention it's the best fish and chips in Oregon? lol -service is very friendly Negatives: -you gotta take it to the car if it's raining. No seats just standing room. But I don't care it's so good I'll eat them standing and I'll eat them in the rain. Overall 5/5 We have eaten here every time we have visited Astoria. This spot is a must do for us.

Ok, we dropped by here for a quick nosh, there was a slight line even at the odd hour we went, so prep for that. But the service was friendly, and the food, so worth it! The fish is battered tuna, which I had yet to try, so even more fun, and it was amazing. Fried well, crispy, not greasy, and the fries were also yummy. No places to sit, so be prepped to sit in your car. Note: Even if you do not like tuna, still try it! My husband does not but loved it anyway.

Fish and chips here is such a treat- such good flavor. The fish is dense, moist, flavorful and the batter isn't too thick, plus the fries and dipping sauces are great too!!! Don't pass this place up- worth visiting!!

Wow. Just wow. Best fish and chips I've ever tasted, made even better by the view of the sea as I stood in line for my food. We ordered the complete order with fries and an extra fish (fried tuna!) which is what everyone was getting, so if you want to feel like a local then go for that. We also got an extra tartar sauce, which was the star of the show. The lady who took our order was such a kind and patient soul, and she even showed us the different sauce sizes! This wasn't a traditional restaurant atmosphere, as it is literally an old boat. The smell of the frying food hit us immediately, and we were hooked.

    Yeah....it's all there!
    It's That Sudden Stop O.

Tuna fish and chips? What? No way! Well....it's a thing and it's pretty damn good. I thought.....can't be....tuna would be too dense....won't have that flakey consistency. Not to worry.....it's all there! And don't believe the Youtubers....Bowpicker Fish & Chips accepts credit cards. So pack up your lawn chairs and bounce over to Bowpicker for a unique fish and chips experience (you already know they operate out of a boat). Couldn't leave Astoria without giving them a try.

They probably didn't catch it in this, but it's so fresh. It taste like they did.

Without a doubt the best fried albacore tuna I have ever had. When you only cook one thing, it better be good. And the line in the wind and cold said they did. It's a food boat. No seating but plenty of room to park.

    Jodi M.

Best fish and chips. Full order is 5 gougons and half is 3. The line is steady during summer months but it moves along. And now they take cards! Bonus? The view of the Columbia River just one block up from Maritime Museum!

This was a first for me and it was such a fun and unique experience. I found it via this wonderful app and everyone's rave reviews are definitely warranted. Bow pickers is literally in a boat. You'll probably wait in line but be patient because it goes quick. They only have one menu item and it's fish and chips so there's not much to deliberate. Once you reach the register, place your order and then they have it to you super quick. There's a little sauce station next to where you grab your food and off you go to find somewhere to sit. They don't have indoor seating or even outdoor seating. You either find somewhere near by to park yourself or sit in your car. The fish was a new experience for me because it was deep fried tuna. I've never had that preparation before but I enjoyed it. The beer batter is super light and crispy. The tuna is meaty and steak like in texture. It's almost like a fish nugget. I usually am not a fan of tartar sauce but I liked theirs. The fries were also good. If you're nearby, definitely stop in!

What a great surprise! My husband had heard about this place but I hadn't. When we came driving into town and saw this boat we were immediately excited. There was of course a line but it went quickly and was so worth it! The fish served is fried tuna. I've never had batter and fried tuna and it was really good! Your only options are half order, whole order, extra piece of fish, extra order of fries and drinks. Simple but perfectly delicious! The tartar sauce was even good. We had our young daughters with us and they loved it too. Such a cool boat, great view, friendly staff and delicious food. If you're in Astoria, you have to check them out!

That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria. The Knot provided the perfect combination of both. The food was excellent! In particular, we absolutely loved the pickled rockfish, salmon chowder, salted chocolate caramel custard and house-made citrus NA ginger ale. It simply made me want to return for a longer and slower visit! Maybe to sit by the fire pit out front while watching life go by. A bonus was a (free) EV hook up adjacent to the property.
