Hubby and I went for one of their special 5 course menu night. Ambiance was great (wonderful historic building), as was the food (beautiful AND delicious) and hospitality (warm, good timing between courses. 5/5

One of the best meals I've had. Great service. Nice atmosphere. The brussels and drinks are fantastic as well!

Wow!!! I've eaten at Carruthers many times. The cocktails are the very definition of craft and the menu is thoughtful . However last night and this morning...they have outdone themselves. My husband and I arrived and sat at the bar as we usually do. The bartender Joey met us with our usual old-fashion cocktail starters. Last night special was a whole lobster which came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I ordered the lobster and my husband ordered the ribeye from the menu. Per usual the cocktails were amazing but the flavor and the execution on the ribeye was top-tier. The Brussel sprouts which came with the ribeye were stellar. Seasoned to perfection. After dinner we had Cadillac margs for dessert and again, crafted to perfection. This morning, we decided to try brunch out for the first time and holy hell. This place should be much busier than what it is for brunch. It is absolutely fantastic. The honey, maple pancakes and the hollandaise on the Benedict's were absolutely fantastic. It was warm and cozy with a candle burning in the background, which set the mood. Thank you so much for a wonderful dinner experience both times!! Oh I almost forgot, the breakfast potatoes were of a new style for me and they were amazing. I hope they never change the preparation of those.

I'd like to start by saying that they're trying. Maybe a little too hard. Big sign hanging outside saying under new management or ownership or something like that so I don't know if this all is new or what. The building itself is beautiful. The food and drink just ok. I appreciated the allergy information on the menu - - saves me from having to ask a million questions - - but I feel like they are trying to be fancy. The staff were very nice but a little too much. We had hoped to enjoy a romantic, relaxing anniversary dinner but someone was always coming over to clear dishes - - like while I'm still eating.

Dining this visit was good but not like more memorable past visits. I have removed stars from my initial review because Carruthers has slipped over the last couple years that we have been dining here. I called 6 weeks ago to make a reservation for our 49th anniversary and when we arrived, there was no record of my reservation. That is the second time we have experienced this oversight since they no longer accept Open Table reservations. I strongly suggest they fix their customer service glitches as it does affect their future business. This was a very slow Thursday night so it was no problem getting seated immediately 6:00PM at a cozy corner window table. Our waiter, Zack was friendly and attentive. We both started with drinks and fresh side salads, My black Manhattan cocktail was perfect and her fluted champagne over the top. I ordered the Cioppino and to be honest, It was filled with seafood but lackluster in taste and have enjoyed better here in the past. One of the shellfish hadn't opened and It wasn't served hot or with the zesty flavor I expect from this traditional dish. The tiny toasted bread pieces which I always have used to sop up the leftover broth, were more like small croutons and not at all suitable to be anything more than a garnish. For dessert, we ordered the decadent chocolate cake with a cream filling, much like memories of childhood Hostess cupcakes that may have been on the shelf for a while. Very dry without ice cream. After this disappointing experience, I am unsure if we will return to Carruthers as there are many other good dining options on the North coast.

Chowder and crab cakes
Yen D.

Chowder was bland for me with a few chunks of crab but had a decent amount of bay shrimp, and clams. My friend loved the chowder though. Crab cakes were small and a bit too salty for me. Strawberry spicy margarita was good. Service was attentive and quick. Felt like I was in an old luxury restaurant so classy but not fully upscale modern like in the bigger cities.

Smoked salmon eggs Benedict

Presentation and feel was nice.... Service was good too! Unfortunately, the meal was not done correctly. If you like eggs Benedict, go elsewhere. My friend had the steak and I guess he enjoyed that; however, I had a different experience with their smoked salmon eggs Benedict. Normally I go traditional but that would have been a let down too based on the lack of flavor from the hollandaise sauce and the eggs that were incorrectly cooked..... I've never had a messed up poached egg until today but it was terrible. They nuked the crap out of it.... Tasted like it was cooked in a microwave and the smoked salmon tasted like I was eating wood chips..... it was just an unfortunate meal on my trip out of town. Would I go here again? lol I'd go to where I first started that was packed. There was a reason.... And it's the same reason why this place had plenty of room.... Again, I think they're off to a good start with the service and setting but they need to find someone able to deliver eggs Benedict if they're going to make it a "go to" as it seems to take up 25% of their menu.....

Traditional Eggs Benedict

Finally tried Carruthers for breakfast and it did not disappoint. One of, if not THE best breakfast's we've had in Astoria in years! Service was outstanding and the food all tasted scratch made. The ambiance is upscale but prices are on par with most of the other breakfast spots in town. I had the Praire Starter and the wife had the Traditional Eggs Benedict and we would both order them again. Hopefully they keep serving breakfast because Astoria definitely needs more breakfast options.

The all new Carruthers !! Joey provided exceptional service and drinks that exceeded our expectations. His focus on quality and customer satisfaction is evident in every aspect of his business. We will definitely return to Joey at Carruthers for future special occasions. An incredible experience!

Dessert decadence!

We were delighted to discover this downtown gem. The restaurant is classic, spacious and comfortable. The food was so fresh and delicious. We both had a Caesar salad - my husband had his with smoked salmon that was moist, slightly sweet and tender. He got the entree size and could barely finish it. I had the half size and a fantastic shrimp cocktail with a gazpacho-like sauce. Very good wine list too. We shared a bourbon chocolate cake that had a ganache , whipped cream filling and was so rich we took half of it home. Great service as well. Highly recommended.

It was also served with a side of salad topped with mango vinaigrette (mmmm chefs kiss). Ended with a Basque Cheesecake, delicate and sweetness was perfectly balanced with the caramel and raspberry drizzle. Service was prompt and friendly. Ambiance was cozy and enhanced by the gentleman playing his hammered dulcimer. Would love to come back here again and try their other dishes!

We had managed to eat seafood at every meal and when I saw that T Paul's Supper Club had a Louie salad on the menu (I'm a sucker for a good Louie) we were in! I'm not totally sure of the vibe they're going for and, to be fair I've only been inside one supper club and it was in Las Vegas, so maybe not a fair comparison. We accidentally walked into the bar section, which seemed like a tiki bar. We were sat in the restaurant, which was decorated with an amateurish mish mosh of seemingly random items. I didn't see a stage, but maybe there was a place for a performer. We were there for lunch. The many is extensive, but also don't seem special. Lots of tiki type drinks and many menu items you'd expect. We ordered the calamari to share, on the recommendation of the server. It was pretty good. We also ordered the Louie Louie to share, which actually isn't on the lunch menu but they kindly agreed to make it for us. I should have been alerted when the server asked what kind of dressing we wanted. She listed several, not including thousand island. I responded, "I think a Louie traditionally has thousand island, do you have that?" She did. The salad had many of the elements, most importantly a good sized amount of lump crab meat. That part was good! The other elements were meh. I would have liked avocado. And I think if you're doing a $30 Louie, you need a special dressing. There were maybe 8 bacon bits. Just not a flavorful Louie. Maybe they do other things well, but I won't be back.

They're not even trying to determine if their food and service is acceptable Missteps included: #1) Two different menus were given, one outdated with a special I wanted. Totally forgivable though #2) potatoes in bouillabaisse were so undercooked they were inedible. They made up most of the dish too. On the plus side, the broth and fish were well prepared. See photo #3) onions in the Hungarian mushroom soup were large, crunchy and near raw. #4) a main ingredient in my special salad was completely missing and it was impossible to find my wait person. Thankfully a bus person assisted, went to a manager, then the busser brought the ingredient to the table. #5) very poor timing of dishes brought to the table. Since there were few people dining I find this perplexing #6) we were never ONCE asked how things were, surprising especially since a manager knew of at least one misstep. The food was not awful, but the issues with the food combined with the "I don't care" wait staff and management in a pricy restaurant made it a NEVER AGAIN situation

Worker's Tavern offers a full bar along with slot machines. There is an ATM on-site for those who need to take money out to gamble with. Indoors is small but has tables to seat large groups. In the back one will find an outdoor seating area with a dissimilar vibe than the tavern. During our visit, the kitchen staff was about 45 minutes late so we weren't able to order breakfast right away. Once the kitchen staff decided to show up, there were quite a few people ready to order their breakfast which caused disjointed and undercooked meal deliveries. Table service was not offered inside or outside. All transactions are done at the bar. The breakfast menu doesn't list pricing and when I asked about the prices, I was told they change regularly. Shady statement. While waiting for the kitchen staff I sipped on a Bloody Mary for $12 and my wife sipped on a Screwdriver for $6.50. The Bloody Mary seemed a bit overpriced to me. Two people in our group ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was still frozen on the inside when served. Worker's Tavern corrected the meals; however, I'm certain the meals were undercooked due to the pressure of the late kitchen staff and the hungry demands of the morning patrons. It is imperative that staff show up at their scheduled shift times. I wanted to try the Cheddar Fritters & Syrup but was told they were out of the item. My wife and I shared the Mushroom Swiss Omelet for $14 + $4.25 up-charge to add sausage to the omelet. We were both happy with our meal choice. Overall, Worker's Tavern has potential; however, that potential was severely during our visit.
