The new blonde bar tender on a massive power trip can GO. This is now the third time the new girl has refused business on sight for NO REASON. It happens to my friends, my family & now me. I read another review talking about the same girl. She claimed I had visibly drank before coming in... I hadn't and the only words I had asked was for a table for 3. After "checking" to see if they had available seating, she came back decided to break the news she is exercising her right to refuse business the poor owners I feel so bad. But yeah no fuck this chick she's mean as hell and won't last. Can't last. Will continue to happen & I'll be checking in for new reviews in regards to her piss poor attitude read more

This bar is very quirky. The decor is mostly a sports bar mixed with dive bar vibes. There's different sections of the bar with seating options. There's pool tables, slot machines, pinball machines etc. It wasn't overly load, but lively, and it was an overall fun vibe The bartenders were helpful, and the beer list was solid Some tips: Come Wednesday nights for pub trivia. Typical dive bar, which I always try to seek out. This one is bigger than most, though, with different levels. Plenty of stuff to do here, too. Trivia was there the night I went. Pinball machines, video poker, etc. And anywhere that has Quasi Modo in a window wearing a Superman T-shirt gets extra points in my book. read more

I've gone to this bar countless times. Always has been a good experience with friendly bartenders and a fun atmosphere. But, there is a new blonde bartender who is totally out of pocket and rude. I walk in with my mom and brother and immediately she says "oh I can't serve you." When we ask why, she simply said "just the vibes. I don't have to serve you." We hadn't said a word! And we weren't even drunk. This is my second time running into her and both times I haven't even gotten the chance to order a drink because this lady just says "I can't serve you." I've been friends with a few bartenders at Merry Time, I've never ever caused issues, and to be treated like this from this girl is insane behavior. I have no desire to go back because of it. read more

Always had good times here but the blonde girl bartending tonight could not have been more bothered that we were there. Sorry we came in at 11 and you close at 12, we asked if you were still serving and said of course. The. Proceeded to be the most bothered bartender I've ever had. And please pull the floor mats as early as possible so you can handle them then handle our food and drinks without any resemblance of washing your hands. We went in here to catch a playoff hockey game. We weren't sure about the food here but it actually wasn't that bad! I had a salad with grilled chicken, and it was pretty good. Strong drinks! The bartenders were very attentive and it was a big and spacious place. It was sad though to spot right next to people playing on the slot machines. They all were packed! I didn't really see anyone "winning big"! We enjoyed watching the game there and appreciated that they let us watch the game there. read more

I've been coming here for years to play pinball, always a stop in Astoria. They have a ton of machines and had some good times here. Over the last year or so it seems to have gone downhill a lot. Half the machines are always broken or not working properly. You tell them, they put an out of order sign on it, come back a few weeks later and sign is gone and problem not fixed. They used to do a pinball night, third Sunday or something. Where you could come in and practice and some machines would be open play. Finally made it out on this specific day for this event, an event they advertised. We asked at the bar and no one had any idea what we were talking about. Not just that, but treated us like we were idiots for even asking. It was so weird, and there was def a drug vibe when talking to employees. Seemed like they had been up for days. Went a few weeks ago, the event is no longer advertised. I was happy to see they aren't promoting something the employees have no idea about. But the bartender, OMG. She was using her fingers to add garnishes to drinks. Absolutely disgusting. I don't know where your hands have been! I just watched you touch a million things behind the bar, then essentially put your fingers in my drink. I opted for cans at that point, asked her for a cider and she recommended one and neglected to mention it was TEN DOLLARS. I was so shocked when I saw the bill. Completely ridiculous and honestly, just gross behavior. Additionally, unless you've been a smoker for years and have burned off a lot of your taste buds, the food is going to be too salty for you. read more

Love this place. I quit drinking years ago, so my comments here are strictly on Merry Time as a restaurant. They've got better food than you'd expect from essentially a pub. The burgers are especially great. More importantly, however, the space is super cozy and inviting, with a raised dining area, a fireplace, a tv (sports bar style), and even a game room at the far end. Pool table X1. If I might digress, I hadn't been to Merry Time in probably over a decade until just recently, when folks at the Labor Temple (their sister bar) sent me over for lunch one day when they were closed. Back in the day, Merry Time was just this stark, cavernous space with a bar, populated with college age kids. Nothing noteworthy. I assumed it was the same, but at some point it was completely transformed into a sports pub style place. As I said, it's super cozy now. Great place to hang out on a rainy winter day for a bite, to watch a game, to play pool or maybe a few hands of cribbage. It's a keeper. read more

Great selection of beer and pinball. There are some slot machines here, pool tables and possibly lotto it looks like too. The pinball machines here are in great working condition. When the ball got stuck on one of the machines the bartender was nice enough to refund me my change. I would definitely come back. I did not try the food here but it smelled great. read more

Great atmosphere and fun board games/arcade games as well. The area is pretty spacious and a fun place to go for a beer. I had just gotten into the area and the food wasn't bad either, the tots were AMAZING they were super seasoned and crispy. I thought about going back just for the tots. The cider I got was pretty good too with a nice flavor. I don't have rueben's often, but I enjoyed it. Ordering the food was pretty relaxed. You order at the bar and then get a number for the table. The bartender was great and super nice. read more

Oregon has only a few professional sports teams. You would think that any Oregon establishment that calls itself a sports bar would have TVs showing games played by Oregon teams. Not this one. We came to Astoria to vist the coast while visiting family up at the mountain. We were just walking around and stumbled upon this place. The bartender was so sweet we felt very welcomed! The atmosphere is fun and cozy, we had the chicken burger, chicken strips and loaded fries all were suburb! Especially for "bar food" my spicy Bloody Mary was also great would definitely recommend giving this place a vist on your trip! My friend and I stopped in for a burger. (A bean burger for her, which I didn't even know was a thing). I noticed right away that the bartender was such a friendly guy--the kind of pleasant that makes you notch your own mood up a little--makes you think, hey, this is a good day! But it wasn't just his greeting. It was outstanding serving throughout. I don't even want to call it "service". It was hospitality. That's the word. And another of the wait staff--a Viking woman, based on her tattoo--was just as remarkable. So it felt like it wasn't just one super happy dude, but a culture--a little neighborhood tavern with Ritz Carlton hospitality. read more

I danced here back in the late '70's. I heard good things about it. I wanted to like it. The score: an 'A' for dive bar ambiance, service, history (personal too) and french fries. They get a 'D' for their $12 squid and slaw which is the whole reason we went...FOOD. I feel SO ripped-off. I paid damn near $30 for badly prepared fish bait, I am terribly embarrassed and disappointed I suggested this spot to my dining partner. Saddest grilled cheese I've seen in a long time. Carnitas were soooooo dry and no flavor. Drinks were extremely weak.

I watched Oregon in the final four from Merry Time. We got there shortly before the game and we're surprised to get a seat. This is definitely a no frills bar. A few people were playing pool but most were there for the game. I wanted to order the curry bowl but was told most patrons found it to hot to eat. So I ordered a salad with calamari. Considering it was coming from a sports bar, the salad was fantastic and the calamari was very lightly breaded and crispy. Very good! read more

We were exploring Astoria and came apon this place. We were really pleasantly surprised! Yes it looks like a dive from the outside but what a great bar with great service and great food! It was a Saturday so we were searching for bloody Mary's! The bartender made a great one, not too spicy but enough flavor! Perfect. Then one of the other customers recommended the jalapeño poppers. What a little bite of heaven. Poppers wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Seriously, we might make the drive from Portland just for those. Because the bartender was so good we spent more money and more time than we expected to. It's definitely a place to try. read more

Both our visits to the Merry Time have been great. It is the quintessential bar; very good food, many taps, pool tables, big screen TVs, pinball machines. And it isn't expensive. It is our favorite bar in Astoria. Have ate here a couple of times now. Last night was an excellent hamburger and my friends had a rice bowl. Dinner and a couple of beers for $25. Highlight was on my first visit when they had fresh razor clams on the menu; they were excellent. Yes Astoria has some great microbrews; we prefer the Merry Time because the local beers are on tap, the excellent food, and the bar just has more of an Astoria feel. read more
