A group of us stopped into Worker's Tavern for breakfast on our way home back to WA. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Worker's Tavern offers a full bar along with slot machines. There is an ATM on-site for those who need to take money out to gamble with. Indoors is small but has tables to seat large groups. In the back one will find an outdoor seating area with a dissimilar vibe than the tavern. During our visit, the kitchen staff was about 45 minutes late so we weren't able to order breakfast right away. Once the kitchen staff decided to show up, there were quite a few people ready to order their breakfast which caused disjointed and undercooked meal deliveries. Table service was not offered inside or outside. All transactions are done at the bar. The breakfast menu doesn't list pricing and when I asked about the prices, I was told they change regularly. Shady statement. While waiting for the kitchen staff I sipped on a Bloody Mary for $12 and my wife sipped on a Screwdriver for $6.50. The Bloody Mary seemed a bit overpriced to me. Two people in our group ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was still frozen on the inside when served. Worker's Tavern corrected the meals; however, I'm certain the meals were undercooked due to the pressure of the late kitchen staff and the hungry demands of the morning patrons. It is imperative that staff show up at their scheduled shift times. I wanted to try the Cheddar Fritters & Syrup but was told they were out of the item. My wife and I shared the Mushroom Swiss Omelet for $14 + $4.25 up-charge to add sausage to the omelet. We were both happy with our meal choice. Overall, Worker's Tavern has potential; however, that potential was severely during our visit. read more

well had high hopes but... No Sweet Vermouth, so I could not have a manhattan, so I went Whiskey sour, no fresh citrus so some garbage sour mix. Walking in it definitely has a locals vibe but welcoming to visitors. The bartender was super sweet and we got to learn all about meat bingo--what?! You get to play bingo and win meat?! Sign me TF up! Good selection of beverage options and breakfast looked really good and at a decent price. The bar itself is okay, along with the menu and most services. The problem is with the owner, who chose to pick a fight with a customer who was minding their own business, and had played a song from Wynton Marsalis - which was a trumpet solo jazz song. It was so petty to observe this owner criticizing the customer in front of other people. But it did not stop there with the owner, who further attempted to denigrate the customer for being "unemployed", when said customer had recently retired after working for real paychecks for about 55 years. I know this because I had the opportunity to speak with the customer, and to hear them talk about being recently retired. I observed the customer pay their tab and leave peacefully without saying anything derogatory towards the owner. Again, the bar itself is quite nice; one can sense the history, and appreciate the ambiance, but it fails with the owners comportment. Don't waste your time visiting this place, as the owner has created a toxic environment. read more

Seriously disappointing. I was hoping for more. The famed "Yucca" is just a vodka lemonade which they have you shake up. The Punky Brewster is just a whisky cocktail with pop rocks on the rim. The Candy drink was tasty but weak. The sausage-hushpuppy appetizer was cold & raw inside (disgusting!) I'm giving them one extra star because the bartender was friendly, they do have a nice courtyard, and they gave a free birthday drink. There is potential here - maybe it was just an off day. Great staff!! They really make you feel like you're just old friends instead of customers. Very reliable service, they are open 9 AM -2 PM, seemingly regardless of weather. Breakfast is tasty and the coffee is surprisingly high quality. We only tried a couple dinner items but they were all solid. Fries are great. This place is awesome! Jennifer took great care if us making sure the drinks weren't empty. She is pretty awesome and had some good stories. The food was delicious. Had the workers breakfast, it was alright. Avoid the orange juice, the biscuits and gravy was bland. The sausage was good, and the potatoes were the surprise treat. We're giving this place all the glory it deserves, and to be honest, it all goes to Payne. We didn't know coming into this classy dive bar, but Payne was a bartender, server, and cook. ALL AT THE SAME TIME!! Before I get into the food, I want to say that this place is really cool. Clearly, the community is really invested and they have a good following. I liked this board they had about buying their friend a drink whenever they come in. I wish places back here in LA had them. My girlfriend went for the hush puppies and BBQ chicken wings while I wanted to try the burger and fries. There were a few orders before us so we waited awhile for food, but after figuring out that Payne was doing everything, we totally understood what was happening and just enjoyed drinking, talking to strangers, and watching sports on the TV. Mad respect for this talented individual. He brought us our food which was all good and cooked perfectly. The man is very talented and even made this bourbon bacon maple bundt cake that stared at me next to the bar. We didn't try it, but someone near us did and said it was terrific. The cool part about this as a tourist was the slot machines and that it also worked as an Air BNB, which we heard gets busy during the summer so reserve a spot there very early. This is such a cool and laid back bar! Walking in, I admired their really cool door and their upside down Christmas tree, complete with festive Rainier reindeer cans. Their cocktail menu is fun. While I may not have iron jugs as they claim you need to have to enjoy their oyster shooters :) , I had three oyster shooters total on our trip and they were so fresh each and every time. So simple and so good. They use Bar Pilot's Jalepeno Lime vodka in their shooters (a local distillery). We also enjoyed a plate of their hush puppies :) the green onion plus the cornmeal made an awesome taste. We also stayed at the Airbnb that they host-it was awesome. This is such a cool spot and I would come to stay again. read more

The owner and bartender were there when we visited from AZ.....amazing folks, great conversation, cold beers and great service!! Highly recommend this dive bar and the beer garden is awesome as well. Also recommend playing the Beir Haus video poker, we won $167 in 15 minutes!!! read more

We went for Meat Bingo which happens every Sunday and the locals were super nice and welcoming, explaining the rules and different games! Make sure you bring plenty of quarters to pay for your card each round (0.50/ea) and show up by 5 to get a table (starts at 6:30). we didn't win anything, but it was a super fun atmosphere to be in! Yeah I know eggs are crazy expensive. Some other local restaurants/bars are charging extra for egg dishes. Such as .50 per egg, or $1 per egg menu item. But $2 extra per egg!? It was a recommendation to try when we go through Astoria and we finally did on a Friday night. Definitely could tell it was a place where locals gather. Your order is taken at the bar with the menu on the wall & grab a place to sit.. our food arrived almost at the same time - although we had ordered an appetizer - Dirty Balls. One bite into it & although it was crispy on the outside- it was frozen on the inside. It was returned and requested to be cooked a little more - which they did. Sat for 15 minutes after work on a week day. 4 people at the bar, 2 on slots. Bar tender in & out of the kitchen at least 5 times AND made eye contact with me several times... not once did I get a menu, a "sorry I'm busy, let me get you a drink," or even a head nod. We stayed in the air b&b that they also have available, it was also just as unique as the tavern along with very comfortable beds. Staff - amazing! The less then stellar part of this review has nothing to do with the bartender, who also was the cook - a very proficient one man show. Breakfast today - awesome. He was very welcoming presence and a good cook! Less than stellar part of the review- 1. Racist and homophobic graffiti in the restroom was not nice. 2. Customers, whom I assume were regulars or locals, were very unwelcoming - not sure if hearing my spouse speak a word in Spanish, or the fact we're not locals was their issue. We found this spot because we had my dog with us. We noticed a sign down by the river walk. We're so glad we stopped! They have an awesome outdoor patio in the back, it's really pretty. Excellent place to bring your dog! There's also a few games, and a fire pit. We had the turkey BLT and it was awesome. Super thick bacon & turkey. The macaroni salad is really good, too! Bartender was friendly and got us what we needed. This is an order at the bar place. Would definitely come back and recommend this tavern to anyone! I wish we could've tried more of the menu. We loved this bar! Decided to go to Astoria for a couple days with our 23 year old son for his birthday. We wandered over to the workers and had a great breakfast and later that day we had super delicious food for dinner!! The back outside space is beautiful comfortable and with a fire pit no less!!! I'm selling my home and leaving the PNW for sunny Florida. Workers is across from the Holiday Inn, so I'm living here for a week as my house closes. This place rocks! If I'd found it sooner, I would have come over from Washington at least once a week. What a blast ! We were excited to visit this establishment and grub on food after running Hood To Coast. After ordering drinks and our food, we waited over an hour for our food, to then realize it hadn't been started. No one checked on us at all in the hour we sat waiting for food, no one in the bar was even eating. We would've had more drinks!
