On a beautiful spring day, we were on a meandering drive back to Seattle from a Portland weekend. We decided to stop in Astoria for dinner and to enjoy the view. The Knot provided the perfect combination of both. The food was excellent! In particular, we absolutely loved the pickled rockfish, salmon chowder, salted chocolate caramel custard and house-made citrus NA ginger ale. We happily enjoyed our meal while watching ships, seals, birds and ocean life. The server told us about the ships and even a podcast report to learn more about passing vessel traffic. It simply made me want to return for a longer and slower visit! Maybe to sit by the fire pit out front while watching life go by. A bonus was a (free) EV hook up adjacent to the property. read more

We stopped by here for a few drinks and some bread while we were walking the boardwalk in Astoria. The drinks were well prepared, but took a very long time to be made. We got our bread and basically finished it before we got our drinks. The bartender was new and she was looking at physical recipes to make each of our drinks. Im glad we weren't in a hurry. The view is outstanding and you can sit outside in the nice weather which we had that day because the inside is very small. We even saw a sea lion swimming off the pier as we enjoyed our drinks. A little pricey for what you get but overall still good but not somewhere I would return to with all the other options in the area. read more

Came across this place while walking around. Wanted something not too heavy, so we ordered the the Sailors Fika and the salmon chowder. Both were so good. Haven't been to place before that had the tinned fish. I love it! Need to find more places that have them! Oh, and we ended up getting not one, but two desserts! Superb drinks with a view. The bartender and server were awesome and attentive. The drinks were made beautifully and the desert was tasty. Quaint, hotel, bar and restaurant. Has a small bar/restaurant seating but has a large outdoor eating/drinking and large conversation/seating area. It was a cloudy, sprinkling day but nice enough to sit outside and enjoy the river, ships, fisherman and the seals talking to anyone who would listen and chat with them. We had a charcuterie board with focaccia bread (a tad spendy but very good) and a toasted hazelnut salad which was very tasty and refreshing. Was a wonderful place to have your lunch hour. Overall great experience, nice staff, clean restrooms and peaceful lunch. PS: take a walk across the street to the 9th street park a take a few pictures. This was a cool place! The lox platter was sold out (sad for me) so we ordered some crackers and cheese and soup. (Girl dinner I guess). It was upscale and unique. What can I say about this place? Amazing! Idyllic view of the passing ships on the river. Unbelievable cocktails like their Lemon Drops and Buttery Fleet. Outside seating (weather permitting). And great Scandinavian food (I'm told ... I never ate there). But I did love the cocktails! That's why I went their twice during my 3 day trip to Astoria. Do yourself a favor, find this bar (it's inside the Bowline Hotel riverside), grab a cocktail, and just enjoy all the incredible activity on the river. read more

We were staying in the hotel and had a couple of their snack items one night: house made focaccia and dill fig tartines. My mistake in not thinking ahead, but the tartines arrived using the focaccia so we ended up with a crazy amount of it to snack on. Good thing I love focaccia I suppose...and that theirs was quite good. The amount of fig spread was a bit heavy for our tastes, but after removing part of it the tartines had a good, interesting flavor. The bar/restaurant is small but cute, essentially making up the lobby of the hotel, as well as some seating outside. Great views of the river and a nice atmosphere. Wish I could speak of more menu items, but it's a unique menu and a lovely place. read more

Next was a salmon chowder made with savory spices such including saffron We also shared a mushroom tart, piled high with arugula and flower petals. The main course was salmon, served with roasted carrots. A hazy IPA was our adult beverage of choice. Our server was informative and attentive. Parking is plentiful, but we are here in February. I frequent Adrift locations, mainly Inn at Discovery Coast and it is my dream home away from home so I had to try out Bowline hotel. Standards are the same, attention to detail is perfect! Drinks are great and food was good. Most importantly the team is fantastic especially Heidie! Her communication about the sites amenities are detailed, food and alcohol service is quick and accurate and she is calm and polite to each customer, best customer service I've seen in a very long time. So good! We were there on a beautiful day and we got the focaccia, fika and and pickled rockfish. We were lucky to be here on a weekend with nobody sitting outside. The foccacia was fluffy and perfectly salted with a dip of delicious olive oil and balsamic. The tinned fika came with amazing rye crackers with fennel seeds but the real winner was the pickled rockfish with seaweed crackers! It was SO amazing my husband and I couldn't stop raving about it. We would eat a whole jar of that rockfish. It complimented the seaweed crackers so well. The cocktails according to my husband were absolutely flawless. He had an old fashioned and the best gin fizz he had ever had in his life. He said it was dangerous and if we didn't have to leave we would have sat there forever, admiring the view and downing cocktails. The prices look steep but it really isn't because the quality of the food and drinks is top notch. read more

I only stopped by because I recently went to the Nordic museum in Ballard, WAand was moved by their exhibit. The bar was disorganized, mise en place was messy, the rail didn't make sense. The recipe stack was also wild to see. Over 30 flash cards on a ring. The bartender was beautiful. In grace and image. She carried a softness that made you feel like you never waited. I give 5 stars because the bartender, but as a bartender myself I'd give 4.5 stars because of the messiness. read more

This restaurant is in a boutique hotel on the Astoria waterfront. When I say on the Astoria waterfront, I mean over the water on a pier. You can sit next to the window and watch everything from fishing boats to cargo ships swim by and all the various weather the coast can throw at you. Our waitress at Tiffany was fantastic. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and she let us know this when we placed our order and coached us through the best things to try and not overdo it. And then there's the food, simply excellent. This food is definitely prepared by a chef that knows their craft, and cares about the quality. It's Scandinavian simple and absolutely delicious. We had the Lox platter and the salmon chowder and both were outstanding. And then there's the cocktails, we both had a brunch cocktail, and they were expertly crafted and presented. We will be back, and I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who wants to try something a little bit different and be pleasantly surprised. read more

After a few days eating lots of treats on a beach getaway, we were craving a vegetarian or veg forward lunch on our way home. I love to end Oregon coast trips with a final stop in Astoria, and The Knot Bar menu looked interesting and was on the water. We were not disappointed! Located in the newish Bowline Hotel, the Scandinavian- inspired menu had several interesting choices. We arrived prior to the full menu being available (2PM), but the brunch menu had an abbreviated version of the goodness. We started seated outside on the amazing deck overlooking the Columbia River, but decided to move to an inside table when it got a bit windy for enjoying food. Our server was very attentive and accommodating. We tried the house made soft cheese with rye crackers, bread and butter, cucumber salad and toasted hazelnut salad. Everything was stellar - fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented (my pictures show a few bites in!). This is not generally what one thinks of as hotel food, and we are already planning to come back and hopefully include a hotel stay to complement the food! read more

Outstanding restaurant housed within the Bowline Hotel. We wound up eating here twice in one glorious weekend. Our first meal was on a Friday night--bitter salad and a shared ribeye steak, perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed Sunday brunch here--more bitter greens salads and butternut squash. Even though I grew up in a Swedish family, I had no idea how amazing pickled fish could be until I tried pickled tre fin rockfish at The Knot Bar. I tasted the familiar flavors of dill and coriander, but everything was super-fresh and the flesh of the fish was firm, very different from what I've had from Swedish delis or the grocery store. The dish was also beautifully prepared. I paired it with a side of bread, and there was more food than I needed. That combo could be a light meal for two. Also a lovely view of the water! read more

This new seafood restaurant/bar is Scandinavian-inspired with locally sourced foods. It is located inside the new Bowline Hotel on the Wharf. I came here on recommendations from an Astoria local and it did not disappoint. Beautiful all glass windows with views of the wharf and sounds of sea lions. The interior is decorated in modern furniture, clutter free and simple. A bar is located in the corner of the restaurant. We had a friendly server and was the only one dining in at the restaurant. Unfortunately, we missed brunch and had the lunch menu instead. We ordered the Beef Striploin, Salmon Mousse, and braised mushrooms to share. The winner of the day was the Beef Striploin! It was served cold with a bbq brisket taste with a side of raddish and cheese. The salmon Mousse was also excellent. Soft and smooth, you would use the rye crisp to scoop up the salmon. The braised mushrooms was also very good. These are all small bites but we left feeling full. Not only are the food aesthetically pleasing and Instagram worthy, it tastes good! Yes, this calls itself a bar - and for good reason. However, the great mystery for me and my wife is: how come people aren't lined up around the block for the food?!? It's fantastic! Oh, and the view. Yes, you can sit sipping marvelous cocktails looking out at the massive Columbia. But what will keep me coming back will be the food. We had a perfect mushroom tart and a magnificent duck breast with blackberry compote. They keep the menu short, but I'm sure anything they serve will be delicious. read more

Located at the Bowline Hotel, this place has great views and is right on the river. You can sit inside or out with a mix of lounge seating and tables. The best part the bar staff who were very knowledgeable and had lots of range to their recommendations depending on what you like. Amazing spot!! We came here for drinks and dessert and ended up coming for breakfast the following morning. Service was fantastic, the atmosphere is gorgeous and they are queer/trans friendly! Definitely recommend the chocolate and salted hazelnut custard (expect the chocolate to be firm with fluffy hazelnut cream/cookie crumbles on top). It was nice to have something to work on slowly with drinks. Hedi our server was very attentive and so kind. We weren't staying at the hotel but felt so welcome dining in. The following morning we enjoyed the savory crepe, house granola, and homemade scone served with delicious lemon custard!! Wandered over to The Knot Bar for some post-dinner cocktails and dessert and were totally blown away. Such a perfect location, right on the pier over looking the water, but felt very cozy, quiet, and refreshing. We loved the varied seating options, and were made to feel very welcome even though we were not hotel guests (although we've already decided to stay here the next time we're in town). Our server was attentive but not over bearing; we never felt rushed nor forgotten about. The drinks and dessert were spot on. Best Old Fashioned (sub rye) I've had in a long time, and a great value for the price. The dessert (salted caramel and chocolate custard) was delicious and well balanced, although the custard could have been a bit softer. We had such a nice time we came back for breakfast! Equally delightful. Can't say enough good things about this place. These folks are doing a great job.
