So...this was our regular Sunday morning breakfast place. Then the change of branding and perhaps ownership, although it's my understanding the chef stayed and we notice most employees are still there. The menu and food quality changed. Most of the amazing breakfasts with sauces like the mustard leek are gone. Really only three different savory breakfast options and they were pretty boring. Danish pancakes came with mediocre strawberry jam and maple syrup. No lingonberry, which is what made them so good and unique. The changes may have been needed to reduce food costs. Sometimes business decisions have to be made. However, I think we need to scratch this off our list for now. Hopefully they revisit the changes. read more

Service at Stranded: waited 20 minutes on a long line without being able to order or sit. Food may be good but 2 staff won't even tell how long the wait... I do not know why Bröder wasn't jammed packed this morning at 9:00 when we arrived. This may be a hidden gem in Astoria. Bröder has other locations in Oregon. It's a Scandinavian influenced breakfast spot WELL worth a visit! Vibe is fun and comfortable. There are some tables and quite a few bar seats also along the windows. Staff is friendly and helpful. You order at the counter. Since it's my bday trip, the hubs and I walked the Astoria Riverfront trail and then were ready for breakfast. We ordered Danish Bloody Marys but I guess not that many people order alcohol at 9 on a Friday, so they only had aquavit as an option. Maybe the best Bloody Mary I've ever had! Love the caraway flavor! The hubs ordered the ham crepe and I ordered the Swedish hash with mushrooms. Meals come out when they're ready (would def rather have hot!) and apparently they made the wrong meal for me, so mine took a while. But they apologized, communicated well and brought me a second Bloody Mary, so who could be upset?? The ham crepe was divine! The mustard sauce, textures and flavors were incredible! The hash would be more for someone who likes more basic meals. Although, the sherry in the mushrooms and the beets made it a bit more interesting. You MUST try Bröder! read more

Jack was kind and welcoming as soon as we walked in. The golden milk with Swedish oat milk was to die for, but in the literal way, just in the way you say, "omg this is to die for" but it was really that good. And the large 16oz was enough to drink throughout the entire meal. Matter of fact, it lasted longer than my appetite. But enough with the golden milk. Like I said, Jack was very kind as we walked in. I mentioned that I misread "Lord Bergamot" listed in their tea section as "Lord farquad" and Jack laughed as he mentioned in response that he had watched Shrek the night prior with his son. And honestly, if you're still reading this, I'll do my best to convince you it was worth the investment of your time. The restaurant was maybe three quarters full as I walked in. Audible environment wasn't overwhelming but it was lively with laughter from those that were there already. Must have been because of the food. Or maybe drugs were involved. No judgement either way. I ordered corned beef hash and the danish pancakes with lemon curd and strawberry/blueberry jam. But thankfully they don't mix the two or that would have not been good nor palatable. The corned beef hash was hearty and delicious. Great portion and the flavor drew a curiosity of the spices used to make such a layered dish. The danish pancakes were quite soft and not too sweet. Excellent brunch experience here with our toddler son. We have Danish heritage in the family, so it was wonderful to eat some Scandinavian food. My husband liked his ham/cheese crepe as well. The inside was clean & modem. I really like how the bistro is connected to The Commondor boutique hotel's lounge. Super cute and quirky decor. Order at the counter then they deliver to your table. We got a Bloody Mary and a grapefruit mimosa. Both delicious. They even had jalapeño vodka to make the bloody even more spicy. DH got the two egg breakfast minus the lingonberry. Sausage tasted homemade. Mustard sauce was savory but sweet. Cute shop with great food. We'd first encountered Broder at a different location where the food was great but customer service was lacking. When we noticed this location we were hopeful. At this spot the service was as great as the food...all so good we ended up eating here both mornings while in town. Our fab breakfasts: danish pancakes, potato pancakes, and the classic 2 egg plate. Every single bite was YUM. At this location they use counter service for placing your order. Service was very friendly, well-organized, and the food served fast and hot. Hubs got the two eggs with fruit pancakes + strawberry compote (the day's offering as each day they make a new, fresh fruit sweet spread). Egg options include soft/med/hard-baked. Or scrambled, but also baked. Don't expect diner fried, but still very tasty served with rock salt and scallions. Aebelskivers are delicious, served 4 or 7, dusted with powdered sugar + two fruit dips. Lemon curd is a must. They're quite sizable so if you're not sharing four should be plenty. Espresso drinks lean into third-wave roast (more medium/bitter). But sugar options abound... raw and granulated. Staff is so friendly all over. read more

Welcome to Broders! We stopped for. Birthday lunch and had a nice time visiting with the owner Peter. Open only a week this establishment is off to a fine start and another great option for The North Oregon Coast. The food was flavorful and well presented. We had three items all very good. The griddle ran a bit hot but I'm sure they will nail that down once settled in. The standard drip coffee was good too which is always a good measure. No skimping here! All the staff were friendly and easy going. A nice place to sit and dine, have a chat without being too rushed. We will visit again. read more

Amazing! And while I'm not qualified to say whether it was authentic, it was definitely not your typical American food, and similar to food I had in Finland. Smoked trout, hash browns with lingonberry sauce, trout benedict on rye bread... If the idea of smoked fish for brunch sounds bad to you, there are a bunch of more American-friendly options, like burgers (including elk!) and also a bunch of vegetarian options. All of our dishes were very well prepared, with perfectly poached eggs. Portion sizes are pretty big - my trout benedict came with two toast-trout-tomato-egg stacks, and I would have been satisfied with one. We are from out of town but if we lived nearby we'd definitely come back. Not the cheapest, but worth it. read more

After a 5 star experience at one of the Portland locations I was excited to try the new location in Astoria. Unfortunately it was a miss for me, but maybe with more experience they will get better. We went on a slow Monday at 1:00 for lunch. They were already out of my first choice for lunch the french dip, so I got the Lost Eggs which I have had before. My husband got the lamb burger with potato cakes and jam. It took 30 minutes to get our food, and when mine came out, it took another 10 minutes for my husband to get his burger and even when he got it, it was just meh - better than a fast food burger, you could tell it was homemade, but he said it wasn't super. Plus, the potato cakes were so greasy they were hard to eat. My lost eggs were delicious and what I expected from my previous experience. The server did say they would take off the burger from our ticket which I appreciate. I will just have to keep an eye on my credit card to make sure that happened. I think they just had an off day. We will go back and try them again. I will just assume it will take a long time to get our food, and we will go when we have more time to spare. read more

Yum! That could be my full review of our breakfast at Broder this morning! This is a small Scandinavian centered cafe open for breakfast and lunch only. It's an inviting place with beautifully decorated shelves behind generous bar seating. The servers were particularly friendly and helpful, answering our questions and making sure we had what we needed. We ordered at the counter and were able to snag one of 8 or 9 small tables. I ordered the Lefse with sherry roasted mushrooms and Jarlsberg cheese. The picked yellow beets and tomato coulis added bursts of brightness. So good! Others in our party ordered the Ableskiver, Swedish Hash with house braised corned beef and the Eggs Benedict with trout cakes. Everything was perfect and delicious. I write this review with a belly still full of Broder's scrumptious breakfast. I ordered the Swedish hash, Pytt I Panna, which loosely translates to "small pieces in pan." As you can see in the photo, good luck eating your hash without it spilling it over the plate. This is, in my humble opinion, a good problem to have. The potatoes were cut small and cooked well, the eggs were nicely runny without being grossly undercooked. The onions and garlic made it sufficiently allium-ated. And the beets on top gave it the Swedish flair it deserved. The Nordic toast was good, as long as you like it dry (which is to be expected with Nordic toast). Ambiance was rustic and cozy. The Astoria location is counter service and feels more like a cafe with food than a restaurant with coffee. Lo-fi tunes on the speaker. Very friendly baristas and servers.
