This place is amazing! I couldn't recommend it enough. I bought a dining table and 4 chairs that I am obsessed with. The table is a teak danish extendable table and the chairs were reupholstered with a tightly woven fabric that my cats can't mess up. Michael is so great and you can tell he is so passionate about all things furniture. He taught us how to disable the table and transport it safely. He even delivered the chairs to us! This place is absolutely magical. I found so many great pieces for my new home. The shop is tucked away in a small shopping complex and seems small but don't let that fool you. I found 7 different pieces for my home with the help of Michael, the owner. I fell in love with pretty much everything in stock. In general most of the furniture here is mid-century and I felt reasonably priced. I could have very easily spent 4 times the amount at other furniture stores. You can also tell Michael is very passionate about the furniture he has in stock and was extremely helpful in helping me pick out pieces but not in a pushy way. If I ever need any additional furniture Red Snapper will absolutely be my first stop! read more

Small, tasteful store featuring a limited selection of very fine vintage furniture. Red Snapper features Danish and American mid-century pieces -- truly lovely, even elegant furniture -- carefully selected for display and sale. I purchased a Danish desk there several years ago and had no problems with sale and delivery, and remain delighted with it. Friends from the Midwest who shop for a relative's apartment here in Portland have also repeatedly purchased several unique pieces from Red Snapper and are happy with them all. Long story ahead. TL;DR is don't shop here. We stopped in to this shop after going to the shop next door. We noticed a table set outside and started to head in to inquire about purchasing it. I commented to my partner that "This place is always closed." apparently the owner heard us and responded that "we are open Friday to Sunday." in a very snarky way. That's fine. I'm sarcastic, whatever. i mentioned that I've stopped by many times and he was closed. That's when we got the, "Well you must have stopped in monday-Thursday. I restore all this furniture, work 120 hours a week, and had COvID." i responded with "Did COvID give you that attitude?" He then claimed to have a migraine. We then Left without buying anything and never will from him. We recently purchased a mid century modern home and were looking to fill the 2400 sq ft. Looking at his reviews it Seems that if he is busy he doesn't really want to talk to anyone. He also claims people who have issues with him must have gone to a different store. I know what store we went to and this is it. I understand that my review and not buying a $700 table isnt going to make or brake this business, but I wanted to let people know how he can be. I understand being defensive about your business, but there are tactful ways of saying things. In the customer service world you can't be rude right out the gate even if you perceive the customer to be. Which we weren't. read more

Love, love, love this vintage furniture shop. This place is lovingly curated by the kindest owners. Earlier this year I bought a 1950s Haywood Wakefield 6-drawer low boy dresser. It is gorgeous, unique (2-tone wood and matte gold hardware), and so freaking solid. It anchors my apartment and gives my space midcentury modern charm. I throughly enjoyed dealing with Matt. He was super friendly and helpful. You can tell he and his partner are very passionate about what they do and they try their best to provide great items and customer service. I really really wish I visited this place before buying stuff from IKEA before hand. I tried this place out by reading so many great yelp reviews and they did not disappoint! I understand what the rave is all about this place, 1) great customer service 2) really well curated items 3) reasonable price. I was greeted by the awesome staffs who were so very knowledgeable and genuine. They were so willing to help and made my experience there so comfortable and pleasant. I told them I was looking for a dining table and my budget. I found a table that I LOVED that was just a little bit over my budget so I was hesitant but they offered to put the table on hold until the next day for me to make the decision after talking with my husband. We ended up purchasing the table and it was SO worth it and I look at it as an investment. I can tell they really cared about the furnitures they were selling when they were helping us load it in our car. You can just tell they were genuine shop owners who wanted their customers to take home something really special and beautiful. We will be back!! read more

Jake and Mike at Red Snapper are wonderful to do business with. They came to my house, looked at my furniture, took it away, sold it, and sent me a check for my cut. Their estimates are always accurate, and they are honest, nice guys. I made $900 by selling through them a small Eames rocking chair from the 50s and three teak chairs from the 60s that needed to be reupholstered. They even took care of the reupholstering! First of all - the heart of this place is these two guys, their passion, and their enthusiasm. They know how to have good relationships with their customers and go so far above and beyond - it is super amazing. They are never ever pushy, and will give style advice and ongoing support. They will text you when something rad that they know you will like is in the pipeline. Each piece they have is amazing. Very reasonably priced and authentically period. I have acquired a few really incredible one-of-a-kind gems and like I said, tons of great support and helpful tips for my home and style. I have a great dining table and lovely chairs, and just purchased a lovely surfboard table that I know I'll love for years to come. The guy running this place is really a very kind and helpful guy! Great for conversation! The store is small, but it's great for how quickly it cycles through items! This is that place that you keep coming back to every couple days in order to snag your dream item. This is for the person who knows what they want and is willing to wait for it to show up so they can get EXACTLY what they want. And what you get for all of your patients is outstanding! Cute Stuff, Horrible Service. I went into Red Snapper yesterday from friend's recommendations. Nobody acknowledged me, no hello, nothing (thats fine). I spotted a table I was interested in purchasing and asked an associate the price as it was unmarked. The associate asked his colleague the price. Immediately, out of Nowhere they started to Argue - LOUD, UNCOMFORTABLE ARGUING - while I just Stood there and WATCHED. Because the table was not cleaned, because nobody had priced it, etc seemed to be the reasoning. They left me and continued a hushed, heated conversation at the register, leaving me to ponder what was happening. Finally the associate came back, and told me it was Not For Sale. He moved it to the back of the store. I left. No apology, no goodbye. I felt as unacknowledged or unwelcome as when I walked in. The only thing I left with was a hollow feeling, and the table I was ready to purchase was taken away. read more

Among Portland's many vintage furniture stores this is my fave. But reading some negative reviews there are a few things to keep in mind so YOU won't be disappointed. The shop is only open Sat, Sun, Mon. (Tues-Fri the owners are offsite working their magic.) You WON'T find a store over stuffed with eye catching doodads and accessories. (There are plenty of those nearby). There are no forgotten items collecting dust in the corner. You WILL find fine midcentury furniture (American as well as Scandinavian) in beautiful condition at surprisingly fair prices as well as a very knowledgeable, welcoming and helpful (never pushy) owner. You will find new items every weekend. Few things linger here. This is a standout shop worthy of repeat visits. read more

Traveled via Yelp review from out of town to see this store. We are collectors of Mid Century Modern Furniture and it was closed, by appointment only. While the owner, I believe Michael, was going into the store, we asked if he minded us looking around and not taking up much of his time. He then asked us if we were going to buy something. We responded we are collectors, but how could we know unless we saw the furniture. The store was small and the inventory was not what we expected. Bottom line he was aloof, arrogant and spoke down to us. We have never been treated this way before, he obviously did not care to deal with us. read more

I went to this store because it was included in "Ten Best Vintage Furniture Stores in Portland". This was so NOT the case when I visited on 03/24/17. It is not worth making a special trip to visit this store. This is a very small store with a severely limited collection of primarily "Swedish Modern" style furniture. What I saw was very generic, nothing at all special or exciting. There are a couple of other stores on the same block which offer a much more comprehensive collection of vintage furniture AND accessories. For some reason neithe rof these higher quality stores made it into the Yelp "Top Ten" listings. read more

Great local vintage shop! Owner is extremely welcoming, flexible with delivery options and knowledgeable about the era of each piece. I value that he also let me browse in a very low pressure situation and actually advised me to wait on purchasing most items for my new place. You can also tell that every piece has been restored and taken care of, unlike the place next door, that also sells(overcharges for) midcentury modern furniture. I have visited Red Snapper a few times and felt that their inventory was limited. Stopping by recently I spotted the ideal teak coffee table, it's a gem and a great price The clerk requested I give him a minute as the piece came in that morning and he wanted to take a photo of it. He stated that their inventory turns so quickly that he likes to post what comes through so customers can see they have an abundance of inventory but it sells quickly. I'll be back! read more

I bought a dining set here a few months ago. It was spendy. I looked at it for awhile and thought it was decently made. I had it for less than a week and the table legs were deteriorating, not to mention the employee was very rude when I even asked if the price was negotiable. In addition, it's pretty obvious the account holder of this establishment gets bad reviews removed, because I contemplated adding a review awhile ago and the bad reviews have been removed. I don't leave bad reviews to local places until I feel like it will help consumers and this one needed it. I'll assume the store will contest this one as well. read more

While visiting Portland, I thought I'd check out some mid century modern furniture spots and see how they measure up to what I can find back home. The result? It turns out that people in Portland probably don't realize just how good they have it! Specifically, I'm talking about the incredibly cool find that is Red Snapper. Checking out the store exterior, the first thing I noticed was the clean and upscale look of their logo and window presentation. Classy and very welcoming. Because of this, I was a bit apprehensive that the prices inside were going to match this upscale sensibility. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. As you walk into the store you enter a foyer area before stepping into the actual show room. The shop is surprisingly spacious. It features two very long rooms, connected by a smaller one in the back. As I walked the full expanse of the space, I found myself spending a decent amount of time browsing through all the cool items on offer. Red Snapper is owned and operated by two great guys named Jake and Michael. Turns out they had rented space in Hawthorne Vintage Modern (the antique mall next door) for a few years before expanding and opening up their own shop. The care and concern they put into their business is evident even in the smallest details. There is cool chill music, good lighting and the entire layout feels inviting and smartly designed. Michael sat up front and off to one side and greeted me as I entered. No hard sell here at all. Just a friendly greeting and then I was left alone to browse and ask questions when I had them. This store is the perfect example of that age old sales axiom about 'fair price, great value'. I was stunned to find that similar, and in some cases, even identical pieces I had seen back home were as much as 40 to 50% less expensive here. I found a great selection of amazingly cool mid century modern American and Danish furniture items - dining tables, chairs, desks, couches, and dressers, all in stellar condition. Jake was careful to point out that although they carry some famous mid century designers, what they care about most is simply 'great design', regardless of the name attached. He also mentioned that they have a large warehouse / work shop offsite, where many of the pieces that go into their shop are restored. He explained that their inventory is constantly changing as the pieces they set out don't stay for long. The fact that things sell quickly here doesn't surprise me at all. As I was getting ready to leave I asked Jake if there were any other mid century modern furniture store in Portland I should check out. Not only was he happy to give me recommendations, he wrote them down for me. Clearly these guys are upfront, honest and sincere in their desire to help out their customers. The price range here is very fair and accommodating and there is likely something cool regardless of the size of your budget. This is flat-out the best vintage store I've seen so far. These fine furniture selling gentlemen (Jake and Michael) are here doing their thing with the right attitude and the right motivations. We bought two Milo Baughman chairs from them and not only was the craftsmanship of their restoration second to none, they were at a price far less than anything I saw online. Love this place and the owners Michael and Jake! Fell in love with a credenza they held it for me while I went home and measured and held off two other buyers. Or was it three? Delivered the next day. They know their MCM and don't have the junky stuff that some other stores do. They are not cheap but reasonably priced for the style and condition of what they are offering. I would consider what I bought museum quality in its original condition. I happy to have found this place and will probably visit often to pick up other pieces as their turnover is very high. Both Michael and Jake are very patient with my never ending questions, and provided me with helpful information regarding the history and design of each of the many pieces I was considering. They always procure special and unique items, rather than the run of the mill. The store isn't huge, but where it lacks in size, it makes up for it in clean, quality mid-century pieces and a constant fresh rotating stock. The good part of a smaller shop is that they don't fill it with a bunch of mediocre, run of the mill kitsch, or questionably "vintage" pieces like other shops tend to do to fill the void. It's about quality, not quantity. Jake and Michael have a great eye for quality pieces at reasonable prices and back it up with their reputation. Hint: The secret to finding the best selection is getting in early on the weekend because they can get cleaned out quickly. As with any vintage shop, once it's gone... it's gone, so don't walk away unless you are absolutely 100% positive you don't intend to buy because there is a good chance the next person in the door will buy it. I cannot say enough positive things about this store and these guys. They have an ever-rotating supply of fantastic, well-priced mid century finds. I fall in love with something every time I'm in the store (which is usually once a week). They take a great deal of pride in selling livable, quality-made stuff and making their customers happy. The first piece I bought from Red Snapper was a beautiful 1960s standing teak clock with a brass-colored face. My fiance fell in love with it and they gladly helped me orchestrate a stealth surprise purchase for Christmas. What most impressed me was that they wouldn't let me take it home until it was perfect (I bought it before they had a chance to restore the clock hands). Since then, I have bought the most perfect Danish couch (completely rebuilt -- not just reupholstered--- made with durability and longevity in mind). Michael even took the time to explain to me all the specifications for the foam and fabric (now I know what a "double rub" is!). I've also gotten a Broyhill Brasilia walnut dresser and the matching hutch. Their prices are beyond reasonable- as a teacher, I don't have a huge disposable income and I'm interested in stuff that lasts. These guys are fair, friendly, and trustworthy. If you mention that you're looking for something specific, they'll even keep an eye out for you. There is no one like them in Portland--- the shops next door are fun to look around in but if you are looking for quality, consistency and value, Red Snapper is the Holy Grail. read more
