I was visiting Portland last month and literally stumbled across this place. They were closed, so we were drooling through the windows. As luck would have it, one of the owners (Jake) was inside working and saw us. He opened the door and asked if we wanted to come in and take a peek. We did. It's amazing. Great quality furniture, refinished and reupholstered perfectly, at good prices. Smaller items, too. Excellent customer service--info, advice, and any final work needed to make your purchase just right, like rewiring a lamp that might need it. Friendly owners who know what they're doing. The owners used to have a spot inside Hawthorne Vintage but decided to take the spot next door and strike out solo. I have to say from the outset that it was a pleasure working with Both Michael and Jake. They were honest, fair and professional during the entire transaction. They acted in our best interest and from what we observed, they also represent the buyers well too. It is with mixed emotions that you give up valued pieces that you have collected and enjoyed over the years. It's small and has limited hours, but the stuff is in great shape and the prices are very good. If you need real furniture and love Mid-century modern, this is a good place to shop. Bought four Nelson Bubble fixtures (Modernica replicas) there last week. I had walked in off the street, saw them all just in on consignment. Jake said he had to look them over before pricing them, but promised me first shot. True to his word, he followed up a week later, and now they're hanging in my house. Hands down the best spot in the Portland Metro area. I have purchased several pieces of furniture from Jake and Michael over the years and they never fail to deliver. I find them to be very fair and honest. Their prices are very good and you will never find a crummy piece of furniture in their store. I have purchased two large items here and several small items. The two big items were: a refurbished gondola couch (I've never heard such enthusiasm for high-density foam, but the upholstery on this couch is fantastic) and a vintage teak bed frame with two floating side drawers. Both were stunningly restored and are highly complimented by everyone. Jake and Michael are great and I plan on making more purchases here in the future. Today my husband and purchased our dream couch at red snapper vintage. The store is located between multiple vintage spaces, and right before we walked into the first I turned to my husband and said "wish for grey mid century modern couch luck." I have bought several items from Michael and Jake over the past couple of years. This weekend I was looking for a couple of dining chairs to accommodate the ones I already have. They had nothing in the store, but Michael said he had a pair in the warehouse and would bring them in the next day. As promised when I walked in the door, there they were. Unfortunately the style was not quite right. I then found two other chairs that I thought would work, Jake said take one home and give it a spin, if you don't like it bring it back. I am happy to say, not only did I love the chair (so did the cat Michael who curled up for a 2 hour nap) I came back in today an took the other one home. These guys are the best. Their stuff is the highest quality. It's well priced (especially compared to places like Look Modern). And they are totally straightforward and honest. At one point, my partner and I were looking for a specific set of chairs and we would go by every week to check out what was new. It took a few months but we found exactly what we were looking for. And at a lot less than we'd seen similar chairs in comparable condition at other places and online. I'm a big mid-century fan (some say I should be in a Mid-Century Anonymous 12 step group) and love to browse the newish Red Snapper vintage furniture store. I've been in several times and have admired some beautiful pieces that weren't quite just what my heart desired. Last weekend, my girlfriend and I wandered into the store while we were browsing our usual vintage hot spots on Hawthorne. I immediately saw this amazing teak mid-century king-sized bed frame with attached headboard, night stands, and roll out drawers. I gazed at it lovingly while my girlfriend said "oh no there she goes!" I asked the very nice and helpful owner (I can't remember his name!) to do some measurements for me and then went home to measure my space to see if the bed would fit. I had another question once I got home, called up the shop and he measured a different part of the piece. We ended up walking back over and I purchased the bed. The owner graciously agreed to hold onto it for a few days while I mattress shopped (since my existing mattress wouldn't fit this bed and I had been thinking about replacing my old back-breaking mattress). Once I had the mattress purchased, I called up the shop and arranged delivery for the next day. Delivery time was prompt and the guys had the large piece in the house and assembled carefully and quickly (for a very reasonable price). I would definitely recommend Red Snapper for all your vintage furniture needs. Their selections are high quality and the customer service is excellent. They are a little pricier than some other vintage shops around, but that is reflected in the condition and quality of the pieces they are selling. And as my friend from CA likes to point out... the bed would have cost at least 3x this much in Los Angeles :) read more

The store is not large, but I believe they have new pieces coming in quite frequently. Jake is, as others have pointed out, very kind and helpful. Red Snapper is a beautiful little shop with high quality mid-century modern pieces at reasonable retail prices. Wonderful to find locally-made new furniture as well. We bought a new sofa based on a 1950's Danish design--the owner Michael was enthusiastic and knowledgable about the design and fabrication of the piece, from the original design, to the Portland frame builder, to the cushion material, to the rub count of the new upholstery. He went out of his way to coordinate a pickup time outside of normal store hours, loaned us a moving blanket, and even called a few days later to follow up with how the sofa fit our space and if we were enjoying it.
