It's so easy to pack due to the frame that keeps it open. I loaded 3 compression packing bags, my iPad, and still had room for more! And, it's not over-sized! The front clasp is appreciated to keep it in place. The color is exactly as depicted in the Portland Gear website. Generous lower front pouch too. Love this backpack!

Now, the other side of the coin. After recently purchasing 3 items, I wouldn't ever recommend to anyone that they should purchase from your website. Before ordering, I was not sure which exact items to order and looking for someone from your company to perhaps help me make that decision, I realized you have NO live reps to even discuss my dilemma. I realized that none of your stores even have a phone number to call. This is very poor. Which leads me to your app/website. It is NOT user friendly. I had to spend quite a bit of my valuable time combing through, not only your site, but also reviews on other sites as well, Instagram, YouTube, etc. I work very hard for my money and I want to be a good steward with it. Your company did not help make that happen. After spending much time researching, I rolled the dice and hoped for the best. After deciding and placing my order of 3 products, the first package arrived, unfortunately missing an item. I had to go through your difficult to navigate site again, this time to report a missing item. I waited quite a bit longer to receive the 2nd product and then days longer to receive the missing product. Come on, you can do better! Your products are not cheap but your customer service is! Any company that i support, especially with the word 'Portland' in the store name, has to be better. Until you improve your customer service, I will use and enjoy the products that ive already purchased, however, I will NOT be making any new purchases and will not recommend purchases through app or website to anyone. I'm in your corner PortlandGear, get it together!

I can't wear polyester or other unnatural fibers; my skin needs to breathe. At Faherty, the clothing is made from 100% organic cotton, linen, and wool. Everything feels so wonderful against your skin and to the touch. Many of their products are designed by members of the Standing Rock Lakota and Dakota Nation. I fell in love with the soft, organic cotton blankets by Doug Good Feather. The designs were clearly American Indian, and the colors are so soft, like the colors of a desert sunset. Even though I own dozens of throw blankets, I may need to get one! Faherty is located in the previous Francesca's space. The shop is bright and spacious. And the clothing is an upgrade! While Francesca's targeted teens and young adults with fashion of the moment at affordable prices, the quality matched. Faherty has both men's and women's quality clothing in classics that you can wear year after year. Worth the investment, but here, the prices are very affordable. For the guys, really handsome long sleeve shirts in various checks and plaids, solids in shades of blue, brown, tan, gray and white. Some flannels, jeans, sweaters, cargo pants, shorts - a great selection. For the women there are dresses in various lengths, tops in a variety of sleeve lengths for layering, sweaters, long cardigans and jackets. Going to See Eyewear this week, I discovered several new shops on this part of NW 23rd. Places that I will definitely visit again, probably the day I go back to pick up my glasses!

Be advised that if you make a single purchase from this company, you will likely be inundated with…read moreunsolicited catalogs despite repeated requests to discontinue them. I have utilized every opt-out resource available, including DMAchoice, the USPS opt-out service, and direct contact with the company on six separate occasions. I received my first unwanted catalog on June 10th and immediately emailed Marine Layer to request removal from all marketing lists. The company responded the following day, stating: "No prob. You can unsubscribe from our catalogs here. It can take 8-12 weeks to stop getting catalogs, but have no fear, once we have your information, we will place your address on our 'do not mail' list." I followed the instructions provided and reasonably assumed the matter was resolved. However, on September 27th, fifteen weeks after completing their form, I received another unsolicited catalog. I contacted Marine Layer again to report that I had already completed the unsubscribe process, yet continued to receive marketing materials. On September 29th, the company replied with the exact same message quoted above, offering no acknowledgment of my prior correspondence. Later that same day, I replied and asked whether their response meant an additional 8-12 weeks would be required for removal. The company did not reply. I sent follow-up emails on October 1st, October 4th, and October 7th, each reiterating my request and eventually making a formal demand that all promotional materials cease. None of these communications were answered. On November 2nd, I received yet another unsolicited catalog. At this stage, I consider the company's conduct to be neglectful and bordering on harassment. Marine Layer has lost at least one customer--me.

Staying right by the Muji store was honestly one of the highlights of my visit to Portland. This is…read morethe only remaining Muji store on the west coast! There used to be several Muji locations in California, but they all closed due to the downturn in business from COVID and expensive leases. I visited this Muji store 4 times in as many days, wandering through to admire all the beautifully made and practical household goods and also trying to figure out what I could fit in my carry-on suitcase for my return trip. This store is huge, but nicely laid out. The sections are clearly marked from travel goods to clothing to personal care to household items to furniture to stationary. And there are plenty of staff milling about, restocking and folding, who can help you if you are looking for a particular item. The store wasn't very busy on weekday afternoons and evenings, but I noticed that it got a lot of foot traffic on Saturday. And on the hot weekend that I was in Portland, it was also very nice to step inside the air conditioned environs for a rest. They were also handing out samples of some of the snacks! Prices are reasonable for the quality of the products. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Portland!

I will say the store layout was a bit interesting, with some areas that felt more cramped. It was fairly crowded when we went, so I did have to squeeze by people to make my way through the store. I spent some time browsing the clothing section and found several items that caught my eye. The clearance section was a bit disorganized and the sizes were not labeled clearly unfortunately. Customer service at Muji was friendly and adequate. The staff working in the fitting room area were especially helpful. It would've been great to have more fitting rooms available, as the line moved slowly and took up a good chunk of time. You are also limited to bringing in 5 items at a time but you can swap out items as needed. I ended up purchasing multiple tops and a few pants for everyday wear. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to browse the homewares section but was pretty satisfied with my clothing purchases and shopping experience. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
