I stumbled upon Sloan years ago and recently became reaquainted with the boutique. I went with a friend who has a really hard time shopping, often feeling ignored by sales staff. The folks working were AMAZING! They were kind, encouraging, and attentive without feeling pushy. Eloisa was especially magical, helping my friend feel comfortable and seen. Sloan has a lot of fun clothing with reasonable prices. Eloisa helped us put together great outfits and was especially encouraging. I think the only thing I would encourage is an increased range of sizes (into the XL+ arena) so that more body types ca be served. read more

Ok this is the best store ever! My sister, cousin and I stumbled into this store after a wedding weekend and we were so surprised how much we loved all the pieces! We all have individually different styles and tastes, but somehow the owner kept bringing us suggestions that were SPOT ON! I didn't know Natalie was the owner until later, but up until that point I was like "ok this person needs to be a professional stylist or something!" (Duh, she runs this store so she's doing exactly what she should be doing with her talent!) Natalie could pick up our cues and notice what styles we liked, and yet she would suggest certain new styles that I didn't even know I would like! My sister said she was literally going to cancel Stitch Fix and just ask Natalie what to buy! That's exactly what this experience is --- stitch fix but in person! I really appreciate that she even went to the back and gave us choices on items that weren't on the floor yet - it made us feel special! Plus she knew what was coming in style, which was nice to know because I really don't follow fashion. The pieces at this store are exactly my style: almost an Anthropologie vibe but more staple pieces and slightly preppy. Basically anyone can find something they like here! There are some simple pieces but hang really well on the body, no matter what size you are. I LOVE the fall/winter looks and I was tempted to buy sweaters and jackets even though it was 93 degrees out LOL! (Store is nicely air conditioned.) I also like the price range, which isn't insanely stupid expensive but quality pieces deserve the accurate pricing. (Ranging from 30-$120, not like $250+ like some LA boutique stores.) I really like this store. Let me explain my review: I've come in several times to put clothes on hold during a lunch break (I work on the street). I've had no issues previously with what I had trouble with this time. I had grabbed about $200 worth of clothes that I wanted to put on hold. I was still browsing when a lady approached me. She asked if I needed any help and i said I'm just on my break and I would come back to try everything on when I'm off at 6. She then said that Sloan "has a 1 hour hold policy" so I should "try them on now." I had 2 minutes left on break. I put everything back and walked out. I honestly don't see a reason to shop here if they can't provide a basic service like holding clothes until the end of the day. Definitely have cute clothes and nice fabrics that feel good, but if I can't shop here then I can't shop here. Just think it's kind of dumb to have a 1 hour hold policy! read more

Great boutique with a wide variety of items in an equally wide range of prices. In addition to the typical jeans, sweaters, dresses, Sloan's carries the trendy fashion items like jumpsuits and rompers. While the clothes are nice, it's the sales clerks who really twke the experience to an elevated level. They don't just put the clothes in a dressing room for you, they actually take note of what you have selected then peruse the store to assemble items that would create an entire outfit and bring them to you for consideration. And never in a pushy way. Usually I like to do my own thing, but these young ladies know their stuff! It's like having a personal stylist who knows what works best for you as an individual. I was truly impressed with their talent! Reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5 is because of the return policy. I just don't dig a place that only gives store credit. This was my first shopping experience at Sloan. I was referred by a loyal customer of theirs and this store was recommended. Since then, I followed their IG page to be in the know and see what they have. Mind you, this wasn't a planned trip. I didn't dress how I usually would if I was to be out shopping or doing errands where I require to get out of my vehicle. I saw that they were having a sale so I decided why not. I walked in with my niece and we were greeted by an employee. It was pretty packed, as it was a Saturday. Of course, I follow Sloan on IG so I know about the price range and what not. I asked the employee for their clearance section since they had an additional sale to those markdowns. She pointed us to the back area. We both felt judged as we kept walking around, browsing the merchandise. Eyes constantly on us. I finally got everything I wanted - bralettes and face masks. At check out, the lady in front of us was offered to sign up for their loyalty/rewards/in store program; As others were also offered (overheard as I was walking around the store). I was expecting to be offered it as well since I spent a good amount there. Nope, that wasn't the case. I truly felt profiled because of how I looked/dressed and that is never okay! Maybe they believed it'll be my only trip to their store, idk. Nonetheless, I didn't receive the great customer service people rave about. Sloan is one of those rare boutiques that seems to cater to almost woman that has good taste in clothing. What's more, Sloan pulls this off regardless of her age. During my many visits, I have seen youthful styles, casual styles, dressy styles and mature styles, etc. There are also accessories throughout the store as well: purses, jewelry, scarves/belts, and shoes. I was not particularly enamored with any of the shoes...yet. I do suspect that they may at any time get some shoes in that may change my mind. The shop has always been bustling with shoppers whenever I pop in on Friday afternoons or on the weekend. The sales gals are always out on the floor, friendly and mingling with the shoppers and ready to assist whenever needed. Prices, considering that you are shopping in a really nice boutique in NW Portland, are not unreasonable. For example: a really cute camisole that could be worn on its own, or for layering is $20.00, a price well within the norm and even lower than at some other specialty boutiques and higher end shops. Yay! I love boutiques like this! I spent some time looking through the racks, slowly picking out pieces that I liked and the sales ladies would ask me if I wanted them to put them in a changing room for me to try on when I was ready. After two rounds of searching and trying on, I decided to buy two shirts and have zero regrets. They were on the pricier side but they were just so cute. In fact, I just realized i'm wearing one of them right now. Haha. They don't have the best return policy but most boutiques don't. What I liked the most about this shop was the service. All of the employees were so friendly and helpful and they even offered champagne to people to sip on while trying on different pieces. This place is cute and stores the most trendy and fashionable clothes compared to all the other boutiques in the neighborhood . I would have to admit that I don't visit them as often as I used to before but every time I do , it's a fantastic experience. They are so cheerful and welcoming that you would want to even spend the money that you don't have ! The clothes selection is amazing and the prices in line with what's the norm in boutiques these days. I love that they help you style the whole outfit in case you show interest in doing that . The store layout could be a bit better though because at times I have looked at things through the display window and gone inside looking for them and even the store attendant had difficulty pin -pointing where they were . Also what's with their refund policy ? They just do store credits and not money refunds which is weird in my opinion in this day and age . read more

This was my first shopping experience in Portland, I thought the boutique was cute, but the staff was highly unprofessional. The minute I walked in the sales associates would not leave me alone, even when I simply said I was just browsing. I felt racially profiled, they would not stop staring, assuming that I would steal. There finally was and employee who made me feel comfortable and ended up giving me a pleasant shopping experience; especially when I am new to this city, making me feel welcome, gave me my time to browse what I wanted but also give helpful recommendations. If it was not for, Jess I would have given this establishment one star. She treated customers with a warm welcome and was very professional. As for the other two working, I know one young associate's name is Sammy, I felt pressured to purchase and I could not help but feel all eyes were on me at all times. To put it easy, she was rude and annoying. This store has a lot of potential. The girls who work here are incredibly rude! I walked in because I saw some cute summer dresses I thought may fit me in my 5th month of pregnancy. I pulled one off the rack and like a moth to a flame one sales girl asked me if I needed a fitting room. Normal & pleasant enough, but a bit overly attentive, which I hate as a shopper. I need some space, & this store was already a bit tight. Then she asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I said no and she started suggesting dresses in other colors. Again, this is great if you are that kind of shopper. I am not. I politely said no again. She left me and I continued browsing. Within less than 10 minutes 2 more girls asked if I was looking for anything in particular. Now I was annoyed. I thought about leaving, but liked the dress I had picked out. Side note: most clothes were very generic and way overpriced. I expect this type of price point being from LA, but not in Portland. The cotton jersey maxi I had picked out was $48, and didn't look a whole lot better than great finds at Target, Gap, or H&M for $30 or less. I do like to shop local when I can though, and no sales tax was a motivating factor to possibly purchase. Anyways, I continued on to the dressing room. When I walked in I saw 2 more dresses like the one I had picked, but in different colors. Plus 3 other dresses and some bras. At first I thought I had a wrong room, but then I overheard a sales girl asking someone else if they liked the additional clothes she had picked out for the customer. I had been in my room about 5 minutes, and due to the rain and cold had multiple articles of my own clothing to remove. Plus I'm pregnant so a bit slow. The sales girl asked me how everything was fitting, if I liked the dress, and needed any more items. I wanted to tell her to chill the f*** out, but instead said "no thank you". She may have sensed my annoyance even with my polite words, but the next thing I heard really pissed me off. Another sales girl walked in and she told her to check my room to make sure everything was there. Now granted she may have been talking about someone else's room, but based on timing it sure seemed like it was me. Either way, don't put 10 items in a room for someone who just wanted 1 if you are worried about theft. The dress I liked didn't really compliment my growing abdomen and butt. It was muggy in the dressing room, I had to pee again, and done with these nasty b's. I left the fitting room and about 10 steps out a sales girl stops me and asks if it worked out. I said "no". She replied "What was wrong with it". I wanted to tell her i'm pregnant and jersey was a bad choice. Then I realized she probably just thinks I'm fat and probably doesn't even care anyways. She looked at me while I fumbled for an answer I didn't think really was her business. Then another customer came out and she got distracted and fawned over that girl so I made a b line out of there. I felt like the first shopping scene in Pretty Woman, but this store was far from Beverly Hills in quality, clothing, or service. Terrible experience I would love to forget. read more

Every time I visit Portland, I make it a point to visit Sloan. Here's why 1. I'm in Portland baby! the city (state of Oregon) with no sales tax - woot woot! 2. Sloan is a boutique - which means unique clothes you'll probably not find anywhere else (or at least not as easily as you would if you were to buy at H&M) 3. You pay a premium alright, but it's worth it because of their styles, selection of clothes and friendly staff 4. Did I mention friendly staff. Every single time I've visited, the ladies have been friendly, helpful and super nice. 5. Sloan seems like the type of place I would normally love, but I don't. I don't think I have ever bought anything from this retail location. I wish I could put my thumb on it but I just can't. It's partially that' it's so crammed with stuff that even when it's a slow day, it seems daunting to find anything. It's seems to be grouped by colors which makes finding things (for me) very hard. Coupled with the fact that on a regular or busy day I can't wait to get out of there. They say they have price matching, but honestly, why not just be competitively priced to begin with! I do notice that many pieces are much more than retail value (non "on sale" items). It's daunting to then prove to someone that it's cheaper elsewhere and to lower the price. Just offer a competitive price to begin with, problem solved. Truthfully, I will probably check in from time to time just to see whats up. But so far it's a meh for me. read more

Hands down, the best shopping experience you will ever have. Ever. I've been a 'Sloan Loyal' for four years now, and have plenty of stories of shining customer service that I could tell, but the one I'd like to share is from one of the first times I went to Sloan-before the employees knew me by name (and nickname, heh). On a rainy evening in December of 2008, I wandered into Sloan hoping that some retail therapy wold pull me out of my slump. I had just broken up with a boyfriend, and was supposed to have my first night out with girlfriends as a single lady. I was feeling blue, hating everything in my closet, and seriously considering bailing on the whole thing. Luckily, Maggie-the tall pretty blonde who I would've been intimidated by, had she not been so darn friendly-noticed my mopey demeanor right away and took me under her wing. I explained why I was moping, and she quickly set out to find me the perfect newly single ensemble. She picked out several options, and hung out near the fitting room the whole time to help me evaluate each one. I left feeling way better, with the perfect outfit for the evening, and she even threw in a 10% 'cheaters SUCK' discount. Though that particular employee is gone, this type of service has been a constant at Sloan ever since. The stylish, helpful, patient employees are what keep me going back to Sloan (maybe a little too often), oh, and the clothes are FAB too! read more

Sloan is by far my favorite little boutique on 23rd. I am always blown away by the helpful staff, whether it be helping me find the perfect dress for a wedding or accessories to go with an outfit. They're not pushy, they just know how to do it right (and reap killer sales at the same time, I can't hate on that). They have a fabulous selection of clothes for work, play, or party and everything is fairly reasonably priced. The clothes are unique, well-made, and are bound to get you some attention (in a good way). I love shopping in Portland. No Sales Tax and the little boutiques are far and away better than anything Seattle has. I love Seattle, but c'mon. I don't want to shop at Sears or Urban outfitters (more on that later). I took a little day-trip down to portland yesterday on my day off. You know. Why NOT drive 2.5 hours each way to pick up a friend from the airport and have lunch/dinner and shop for four hours? So We are wandering around the neighborhood - my favorite way - on foot, and weaving in and out of shops and boutiques. I had successfully avoided buying anything until I went in here. The sales girl (whose name isn't on my receipt, so I can't thank her personally... but she is cool) took me around the store and showed me sweaters and paired them with leggings and dresses and other things. Lanny fun-fact: I own exactly one dress. and it is the one I was married in. I didn't buy a dress from her, but she TOTALLY tricked me into feeling like I should own more dresses. She didn't hustle me to the front of the store to buy the newest (Read: Most expensive) garments. She was super excited about a dress that was on clearance for $16. We talked about fish and Rachael Ray. I love her. I love this store. Great clothes, friendly staff. All in all A++ FTW! I love Sloan and shop at both the 23rd location and the Mississippi location often, but to be honest, tonight was very disappointing. I brought my mother in on her birthday to pick out a new outfit. We found her some cute pants, a bodysuit, cardigan, necklace, and ring. Yay us! When we went to buy her items, I asked if it was possible for her to have a discount as it was her birthday. I usually get a birthday discount because I'm "in the system". Well unfortunately for my mom, she wasn't. I asked if we could sign her up today and the lady behind the counter said "we can definitely sign you up for next year"...Really? I've been shopping at this location before where an employee offered me a glass of champagne and 20% off just for the heck of it. I guess that was the kind of amazing customer service i was used to at this storeNow I'm not cheap, and neither is my mother, but it sure didn't feel great to have someone turn your mom down on her birthday for something I knew was simple to do. I don't care if it was 5% off, it just would've been better customer service to blame it on the computer or something instead of simply refusing. It's also not like we were only spending a small amount....this might seem like a little issue to some, but I'm not easily going to forget the disappointment we felt after what should've been a fun experience. A little effort would've done a lot of good. Going to think twice before going back. ***UPDATE**** I've updated my review after receiving an email from the owner apologizing for the experience I had. He also offered me a discount which was appreciated and I took advantage of. I returned to the store (NW 23rd instead of Mississippi) and the ladies were helpful and accommodating. They still opened the door for me so that I could purchase a gift card for my wife for Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Generally affordable, cute, trendy items and really helpful = a great experience. Some of the items are not my style but they definitely cover the current fashions and go a little wide to accomodate most young ladies fashion. I'd say it's a safe bet to find a really fun dress or outfit for the 20 - 40 (ish) ladies out there. Definitely a step up quality-wise from an H&M with out much of an increased price tag. read more
