Such a cute place! Magpie is one of the only true vintage stores I have found in Portland. While others sell slightly older clothing or are basically a regular thrift store, Magpie offers a wide variety of vintage items, from women's and men's clothing to household decor to accessories, and much more! I love how unique the items are. It's not your typical vintage store that is actually just tailored to the modern sense of style. Many of their items have a higher price tag, but others are quite affordable. The workers were very friendly, and I would definitely recommend supporting this Portland business! read more

Entering this unique shop is such a time capsule. All the dresses are unique and beautiful. They're all in great condition. You can complete an outfit with accessories too. However most in one small skinny size. The store has home decor too which brings vintage to life. They carry men and women's wear and records too. read more

You can call it "vintage", but the goods here appear to have aged like a fine wine; everything on the racks was immaculate and stylish, with a retro flair. Magpie also boasts a strikingly sizeable selection of menswear and accessories, which I am not used to seeing. Prices are on the higher end, but are proportionate with they quality of the garments. The best stock of 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s clothes I've found in PDX that aren't overpriced, ripped (unfashionably) to shit, or covered in questionable stains. "Put out free and easy ethnic vibes in the groovy late 60's dashiki with wizardy sleeves". I went in because I had time to spare and I was in the neighborhood. I thought it (the shirt) was nice so I went over to check the size and price. I was seriously disappointed that someone chose to write this as a description. It is telling you to wear this outfit to put out "ETHNIC" vibes. To me this translates to "hey people wear this garment and show that you are cultured by wearing clothes that belong to a culture that you are NOT a part of". Furthermore, the presence of dashikis came about here (USA) when black folk in America were exploring their African roots. When they were trying to show that black is beautiful. I don't know what is free or easy about that? My money is not going to this business. read more

My favorite stop on my Portland vintage trawl... the sales attendants were both friendly fashion plates. I came away with a gorgeous little green tartan skirt and a preposterous but irresistible leather number which was, as one of them pointed out, straight out of the campy 90s detective show Silk Stalkings. Will def make a point to revisit on my next visit. read more

Heres the problem...a lil overpriced..and what really turned me off to ever coming back was the two women that were working there. They were stuck up and just rude. I have to applaud the savvy of the store owner, who has fully harnessed the power of Selling Used Stuff to Portlanders Who Will Pay Any Price. We've all been to places like Buffalo Exchange and seen Forever 21 dresses selling for a buck less than their original prices, but at stores with a more curated vintage selection, it's easier to assume that there's a higher level of authenticity. Nah brah. I almost died laughing when I came across a selection of Soffe shorts (you know 'em, they're colorful elastic-waisted shorts that you can get for $8 at Fred Meyer) for $14. They do have a 70s look, but the tags have a URL on them, so either Soffe was WAY ahead of their time, or you're buying someone else's gym shorts from last year for $14. So two stars for passing off stuff from a Kohls sale rack as vintage, but also two stars to you, customers, who make this possible. For shaaaame! read more

My girlfriend and I were planning to finally do a little shopping at one of our favorite vintage spots. When we walked in, a woman was at the counter talking to who became obvious to be the owner, with her mask around her chin. I made eye contact with him multiple times and he looked at me and I felt he sensed our discomfort. I waited for him to say something to the woman for a long time as she talked loudly with no mask on and paced around the counter. I used to overlook the fact that this spot is overpriced and that the owner clearly caters to skinny women, but he made it clear today he does not care about his customers, he was too cowardly to tell his friend to simply pull her mask over her face during a peak in COVID rates. After years of shopping here, will never be back. read more

Fourth time in. Each time I was never acknowledged, though I was the only one in the store. Several times I had garments in hand or intently picking out jewelry. No help, no questions. Nothing. I've been shopping here since 1999! I love this place, and it's one of those shops that's a reminder of what makes Portland a unique great place. I even got my wedding dress here last year. A beautiful 1940 lace dress for 85 dollars. The man that helped me was really fun to talk to and he had an adorable funny dog that I wanted to take home. I love Magpie!
