I absolutely love The Joinery. They have an incredible selection of designs and woods to drool over. The sales room always smells like beautifully oiled wood. In addition to the numerous designs of virtually anything you could want in wood furniture, they also have some art, beautiful tiles, kitchen accessories, children's keepsake toys, I say keepsake because they're classic in design and pretty indestructible. We purchased a wooden nativity scene one year so I wouldn't have to worry about the grandkids playing with the sheep and other characters in the set. It's become a much loved family tradition. My husband and I bought really beautiful kitchen stools several years ago and then moved into a new house where their height became too tall. We brought them into the Joinery and asked them if they could modify the height by taking off part of the legs. They were able to do that and then made us 2 more at the revised lower height to go with our originals. Taking it one step further, they made our originals look like new by lovingly removing the scratches and dings that had developed over the several years of use. You couldn't tell the new from the old. The customer service is great, very knowledgeable, professional, passionate about their product and friendly to work with. The Joinery is definitely pricey, but the pieces definitely make if worth saving and planning for. read more

Heirloom quality furniture and classic styling makes the Joinery a great spot to visit. With a beautiful showroom and a view of the shop where everything is built, it's one of my favorite shopping experiences. As others have mentioned, superb products don't come cheap, but having an investment that will bring you joy every day makes The Joinery well worth a trip from anywhere. After several weeks, The Joinery found my review and has issued me a refund. Cassandra was very nice in a message, then an email, and on the phone. The furniture is beautiful and I am sorry not to give a perfect five stars (though I nearly dropped to three stars), but I am still leery of special ordering. Certainly I would not set up delivery until I had seen the completed piece. . . . because I really do want a round madrone table. read more

Fantastic furniture and functional art store with classically sleek one-of-a-kind Made in Oregon wood pieces! They have everything from beds to wooden legals to chess sets to building blocks. The best part is, you have the ability to look into their woodshop, which is massive. Note: Not sure if the second floor is wheelchair accessible (I didn't see an elevator). And the front door has a large step in front. They ship across the U.S and don't charge state sales tax. read more

Horrible customer service! You would think that if you are trying to sell expensive amish furniture you would be helpful and listen to the customer, instead of making smart-@&$ comments. Ordered several items over the last dozen or so years, always enjoyed great service in the storefront and the craftsmanship and design in my house. If you're willing to wait a few weeks for your furniture, I'm not sure there's a better place in Portland if you like furniture that's Arts & Crafts/Mission influenced. The elephant in the room is the upfront cost of the furniture- yes, it's expensive, but on the other hand, you aren't likely to have to replace it due to wear and tear any time soon. read more

The joinery is an amazing place to go if you're looking for future antique furniture the woodworkers are amazing I highly recommend going to the joinery if you're looking for high-end furniture. Staff is super friendly and helpful, upon going into the showroom you are welcomely and warmly greeted by the staff. You can bring your dog too! Plus have some wine. I'm proud to display my furniture and tell people where I got it and who made it because the woodworker signs the furniture :) My latest piece was made by Tim Berendt and is my finest piece yet, that man has serious talent and I highly recommend him making anything. Next time I'm ready to add to my collection, I will request him. I still think everyone at the joinery is awesome I had a very great experience there and can't wait for my next heirloom. read more

I've been a loyal customer of The Joinery for over twenty years now -- back then it was Marc and a few others in a small workshop. Most of the furniture in our house was built here and looks even more beautiful as time goes by. I fully expect these pieces to be handed down to my children at the right time. Their pieces may seem expensive but if you consider that with the proper care you will likely keep them for your lifetime and that they will last even longer, the prices are entirely reasonable. In hindsight, the pieces of furniture I've acquired from here are some of the best investments I've ever made. Only a few of our pieces of furniture were acquired while we still lived in Portland. After we moved to California, we kept buying pieces of furniture as we could afford them and The Joinery would ship them to us. If you can't afford a piece that you have your eye on right now, I would encourage you to save up for it till you can. Recently, one of our sofas needed some minor repair work. They offered me several alternatives and in the end had one of their employees (who was vacationing nearby) come and fix it at my house. They refused to take any payment for this work. I haven't heard of this level of customer support anywhere --- I wish more companies would stand behind their work like this. As I understand it, each piece is built by a single person and is signed by that person. Their pride in their work is evident. At a time when most of the stuff you can buy in the stores comes with low prices, low quality and is built to not last, The Joinery is refreshingly different. They fully deserve their success and I would encourage people whether from Portland or elsewhere to consider buying their furniture here. read more

A little bit of Arts and Crafts right in the heart of Woodstock. This furniture/home goods store is a haven for wood lovers. I recently visited it and was very impressed by the overall feel of the store, and their products. While their pieces are expensive, they are all made right in the shop, you can even go up to the 2nd floor to see the artists in action, and they are unique and special heirloom quality. It's obvious that this place has the highest standards for materials and workmanship, no dispute there. This isn't Crazy Bob's furniture liquidators, the pieces they sell are truly meant to last a lifetime obviously, so I should see it as a lifetime investment I suppose. They are also entitled to charge a fair price for their gorgeous and sturdy pieces which no doubt take a ton of skill, time craftsmanship. Still I couldn't help leaving this place somewhat stunned by the jaw dropping price tags. I have in the past spent over 2k on a high quality dresser that I knew I would keep forever. Call me a rube but I had no idea of the kind of price point we were looking at here, $4500 dressers, $1500 night stands and you can fill in the blanks for the rest. Bottom line, if I could I would, but I can't. read more

Awful customer service. People working here have so much attitude it's not even funny. I went in to look around and got nothing but uppity attitude. I actually left in disgust. Get the F over it... you're a clerk that works in a shop. Ridiculously overpriced furniture the types of which you can easily get anywhere else... even at very pricey stores, for 1/4 the price. Seriously? $8,000 for a sofa?? Not worth it at all. This place is for rich douchebags that have nothing else to do with their money than throw it away. read more

If I had an endless budget for adding quality pieces to my home this would be the only place I would need to go. I am currently saving my pennies for their pirouette end tables! They make all the pieces on site from certified, sustainable or reclaimed wood and you can choose from their large range of designs (from Mission to Shaker to Modern) or work with them to create your own. The showroom people really know their furniture and are always kind and welcoming when I come by to stalk my future purchases. They also have an awesome range of home accessories from companies like Roost, Dwell Studio and Jonathan Adler. Definitely worth the trip to Woodstock! read more

Our first visit to the store and we were blown away by the quality of the furniture. It is a bit on the pricey side, but hey you are getting heirloom quality furniture. If you want furniture that will last and you can pass down to your children this is the place for you. Many of the smaller items are pure eye candy. The boxes are so beautiful. We came home with a delicately balanced clock that is a work of art. Next time we need a piece of furniture, we won't hesitate to revisit this wonderful store. I was able to install some flooring in their shop and I was amazed on their shop process, craftsmen and showroom. I purchased a dresser from The Joinery over a year ago and it is amazing. We didn't have the benefit of having visited the Woodstock shop but would look forward to doing that sometime. We discovered The Joinery on-line after being led there by a few newspaper ads. Our entire experience was either through the website or on the telephone with Liz and some of the other staff. We were refurnishing a house in Sunriver after a major renovation but having to do it from 1000 miles away in San Diego. Too many things to accomplish from too far away. We dealt with a number of suppliers remotely through the web and other means and never had as totally satisfying experience as what we had with The Joinery. Ironically, and probably unlike most customers, the icing on the cake was actually seeing the furniture in person once we were able to visit our home and get everything set up after construction. Beautiful woods and craftsmanship. A really stunning bedroom set. Everything far exceeded our expectations and, even with the distance to our full time home, we will not hesitate to use Joinery when we replace our bedroom stuff down here.
