Broder Nord - YUM

We've been to all (?) the Broder locations, as we really enjoy the food. Loved that this location had self-serve drip INCLUDING decaf. Slow counter service and a bit of a wait for our food here, but on par with great food. My husband tried something new (baked egg sramble) which wasn't his favorite item on the menu as he found it a bit dry...the rest of the items were yummy as usual. Highly recommend the cardamom pastry knot. We saw those come out as we were waiting on our food and they looked good enough we grabbed one to-go. FABULOUS.

Stopped in for some breakfast with the sisters on a Sunday morning and overall had a pleasant experience! The service was friendly and we were lucky to get a table inside just as it was getting cleared. I ordered a matcha latte and a breakfast sandwich with bacon. This is an open face sandwich. Overall the sandwich was good with the fresh greens. The bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly. The restaurant was quite crowded and busy, clearly very popular! Also the wait for the food was a bit longer than expected. This was my first time visiting but I would definitely love to visit again and try other items on their menu. I haven't had a lot of Scandinavian food and would be interested in exploring more of that!

One thing about Portland: we love our brunch. If you're looking for something outside of the typical eggs and bacon style, come here. This was my first time having a Scandinavian meal and I will 100% be back. This restaurant is counter service, order and take a seat. Very thankful the customer service was very friendly and accommodating to questions/suggestions. Pro tip: orders the meatballs you won't be disappointed!

It's a beautiful t of a wait to be served, but worth the wait! Loved the out doors patio. The food is just amazing!! Dog and family friendly.

Smoked Trout with Pytt I Panna (Swedish Hash)

Everytime I travel to PDX, I try and swing by to Broder Nord or the other 2 locations. The ambience is super cozy on a cold rainy Portland day. My go to is to get the full experience, aebelskivers, smoked trout, gimlet (rye). The trout has the perfect amount of smoke and crisp. And the aebelskivers with jam is just heaven. Service is excellent. It gets very popular on weekends so expect a lil wait. 11/10!

Cute place with a good amount of seating and street parking. Food took a while but a lot came out. Bacon was perfect and the baked grapefruit was so delicious. Potato pancakes were decent too. The ebelskivers were good but lacking a little flavor. They were puffy and of good texture but there was no flavor. I sought these out in Denmark so I knew what kind of flavor I was looking for and it kind of missed the mark. Overall a good pick and very nice people.

another day another hot choccy YAY!! it was good but anyways on to the real stuff the balls. god I love a good ball and these meat balls were actually yeah they were good but with the lingonberry yessssss sweet savory is my favorite. the dough balls yeah taste like dough balls but the creams were good. actually everything just tastes exactly how it looks and exactly how you would imagine it. nothing surprising or special but it's good!

I got some brunch here after a barre class and had a great time. I've been to their other location, Broder Cafe, and in comparison, this location offers much more seating both inside and outside. Thus, the only wait you have is when you order at the counter (then you're seated and the food is brought out to you). We ended up waiting for a while anyways as the line was quite long, and they were short-staffed. The food here is delicious and portions are great for lunch. Always a go-to for Scandanavian food!

Open face breakfast sandwich with bacon!! So gooood

Nice people and a cute walkable area. The wait was long because it's a Saturday afternoon but what else isn't!

Really really lovely local brunch spot. The sun coming in and the cutest pancakes and skillets. It is a bit pricy, but hey, there is a reason folks pay and go out to eat eggs in the morning. The vibes and extra morning magic are worth it.

Pretty good spot. Everything we ordered was pretty high quality. A step up from the "standard" brunch place, whatever that means. For example, the soft boiled eggs actually had nicely runny yolks and the whites weren't browned. A lot of places screw these sorts of things up. Nothing stood out to me as too incredible though. Like there wasn't any dish or drink I had that makes me eager to return. The meal was also a bit expensive, a little over $60 for my girlfriend and I, and we didn't order too much food. So yeah, at that price point I guess I see it as an ok option but not one I'd want to settle for.

But wait...they have a new flavor swirl w strawberry so ya know I had to try it. Verdict: pretty good. Had a nice strawbs flav...not too fakey. The consistency is lil diff being slightly icy vs the creamy soft serve. It's a lil sweet for me but I did not regret trying it :) Staff was nice, plenty of seating and you can shop all the foods they serve to bring home. They have the grocery items right next to Bistro w a self checkout. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Have heard about Ikea's meatballs for a long time, and finally got to try them!…read more Was pleasantly surprised by their cafeteria. The layout made me nostalgic for elementary cafeterias. Everything seemed clean and service was fast. There was a large seating area next to big windows for natural sunlight. We ordered the standard meatball plates with mashed potatoes, gravy, jam, and peas. The meatballs are definitely the star of the dish and have a good flavor. I had never tried jam with food like this, but the tart sweet berry taste balanced surpisingly well with the rest of the food. The mashed potatoes were creamy, and the peas weren't overcooked. It was nice to see many vegetarian friendly items on the menu. There is vegetable gravy option to go with your veggie meatballs. It appears they have dairy free desserts and sausages as well. The meatballs live up to the hype!

Game tables unlike any other- sturdy but luxurious. All of the woodworking is flawless and glossy- i wish all my furniture at home looked that good! Always recommend to friends looking for one of a kind restorations or custom pieces, it is definitely a not-so-hidden creative gem of Portland.

It's no secret that the quality of furniture making is in decline. It's just easier to mold it out…read moreof sawdust and glue, or mold it out of plastic. The sad thing is that the molded sawdust is sheathed with veneer, thin sheets of wood peeled from often old growth trees or endangered tropical hardwoods. Often that tree that took a hundred years or more to grow, is being used to make a piece of furniture with a life of 3-5 years. Don't let us get started into veneer poaching http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/california/Redwood-Park-Closes-Road-to-Deter-Burl-Poachers-248659171.html. Or hardwoods fueling war lords. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/liberia-ex-forestry-boss-arrested-corruption. That's just sick. The Good Mod is going against that grain. Their specialty is mid-century modern from the Scandinavian invasion. Those Vikings and their furniture! They refinish or reupholster the pieces as necessary and the price reflects that. If you have ever priced having a piece of furniture shot with a couple coats of lacquer by a professional, who also, by the way, is being paid to properly handle lacquer, which is very toxic, you know. But those prices are comparable to the new price in its time. And you are getting a piece of furniture you can pass down generations. In fact, some of it may become design auction material in the future. They were good on my visit with cadenzas, occasional chairs, classic Knoll chairs, a few sofas, lighting. They also gather up some industrial artifacts and repurpose them, if that fits your aesthetics. One of their newest spec pieces is a walnut ping pong table, which could also be used as a dining table. This item would fit well into the tech startup world. If you are an art director or set decorator they would be a good resource. The Good Mod has moved around and as of this writing are up a creaky elevator or quite a few stairs on the fourth floor. But that gives them a new big cheap space. And note to new arrivers decorating your Pearl condos - if you can rock this style, you can patronize a great Portland reuse business. You can even fib a little and claim your hip grandparents/parents/you bought it new! The Good Mod cleans up and restores furniture from the mid-century modernist age. Reduce, reuse, recycle! Be cool, stay cool, keep cool! (Thanks to Mr Oscar Brown Jr)
