First off the staff is great!! Secondly the food was outstanding, third thing the portions are huge. This is a cute small place to grab a bite at the coast. Is it cheap no but the portions are not going to leave you hungry. I would be happy to eat here again. We had a party of 7 in this tiny place and they treated us great. Don't be fooled by the name this place will leave your belly happy and smile on your face. They even have some free prepaid meals on the wall if someone is in need. We love Rockaway Beach, Oregon. We finally made it to Grumpy's Cafe. We'll try them again but this day wasn't good for the staff. Management decided to release the NEW POINT OF SALE system on a SATURDAY MORNING. A sunny weekend no less. Our waitress had been gone for the past year and this was her first day back, she told us, obviously this is my fault. We all laughed. There was obvious problems in the kitchen. We never did get our toast. My Wife got our coffee refill and cream. The couple who were seated way before us, never got menus. We gave them one of ours. My Wife was telling staff who hadn't gotten what, who was first and who needs more coffee. The food was great. I had Sausage Links, Egg, Hash and imaginary Toast. I hear the toast is good. We never got ours. My Wife got an omelet. It was huge and she ate it all but lunch. Not me, breakfast and lunch. My breakfast was awesome. Usually when you get Sausage Links they're OK. Not here. They were beyond yummy. I'm pretty sure they locally sourced the Sausage. It did not taste like some factory made product. Now I need to know what the Sausage patty is like. We'll give them a couple more tries. You can't knock a place because of 1 visit. I've heard lots of great things about Grumpy's Cafe and I'm giving them a fair chance, plus I like their whole vibe. The food is good and it's well priced but it's the customer service and the kindness from Luke that makes me want to come back and have a sit down meal here. I was totally intrigued by the name to begin with. I wanted to see if grumpy baked up some good eats. I stopped in here, and I was pleasantly surprised by the and the little bakery. Total very casual vibe here. I was greeted right away and said to sit where I wanted. After seating myself, the young waiter brought me a water and a coffee that I had asked for immediately. They were a little bit busy, but not so bad. I looked at the pastry case and ended up with a cake with vanilla icing and sprinkles. It was. Not really cake though, but I enjoyed it. It was more airy like a Krispy Kreme I enjoyed the coffee. It was tasty and fresh I decided on a one biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was very large and had a great amount of tasty gravy. Grumpy's had poor reviews and I wanted to answer them. I am a tourist on a motorcycle, passing through, yet I got great, friendly service. Their prices are fair and their food is good but not great. I went with biscuits and gravy and once i added extra gravy it was very good. But if you order the biscuits and gravy I would ask for extra gravy. It is an upcharge worth making. We went on Monday June 24, 2024 got there at 7:50. We didn't get our food until 8:45. When we got there there was 2 other tables one was a table of 6. Several others came in as we sat there one table that ordered about 840 got their food as we walked out at 9. Not sure what happened but it seems like maybe our food wasn't rang in. I work in a breakfast place and I've never had a breakfast take that long! Fine dining maybe or if the building is full, but not like that. If looking for a tasty greasy spoon style diner breakfast spot right off the 101, grumpys fits the bill! Not a ton of tables inside but midweek we had no issues getting one. Pancakes as large as your head, omelets and breakfast sandwich options as well. I loved my croissant sandwich the bacon here is perfect and although coffee was the weaker diner style, (think Folgers) we sure were happy for the many hot coffee refills by our server!
