Date of visit: May 10, 2026 If you're visiting Portland, this is a bit of a drive, and can be harrowing for those that are not a fan of heights, but it is worth the trip to see their impressive operation and try some amazing dairy products. I was looking forward to the ice cream all day and it definitely didn't disappoint! I had a Salty Caramel Pretzel shake and it was quite possibly the highlight of the entire trip to Oregon! We did the self-guided tour and for the low low price of free 99, it was amazing. The large windows and clear explanation made it easy to follow the process from start to finish; can't say I've ever seen 40 pound blocks of cheese before! Before the ice cream, we split the grilled cheese and mac and cheese, both being very good. The fries that accompanied the sandwich though, were unremarkable. Why they don't serve them as cheese fries I will never understand. I wanted to go five stars here but the staff could be better. It's great that they seem to hire so much local youth, but there didn't seem to be anyone supervising or helping direct traffic, resulting in the indoor ice cream line being 15 people deep and the outside line being empty, with staff just standing around talking about their relationship woes (this I tell you from firsthand experience) instead of helping out in other places where it's needed. Giving 5 stars because the experience is a must. Great for kids, great for families, great if you are visiting or have someone visiting and are looking for something to do. We started out by taking the self guided tour of the cheese process, then we went to sample - they had five types of cheeses for us to try. Here's my ranking in order of favorite 1. Truffle white cheddar 2. Smoked black pepper 3. Med cheddar, sharp white cheddar, mozzarella all equal They also had orange cream ice cream to try which was very good. Then we stopped in another section to learn about the farm and milking the cows and the types of cows they have. We made our way through the timeline then headed to the cafeteria area to try some of their food. We ordered the burger and subbed fried cheese curds with all the sauces (ranch, chili ranch, and bbq) and the mac n cheese. The food was just okay tbh. We were going to get some ice cream which I'm sure would've been great but were too full after our meal and cheese samplings. Lastly we stopped at the gift shop. Lots of cute items. read more

How lovely that parking and entry are free at such an iconic place to visit. There isn't too much to see upstairs for the self-guided tour, but it's a nice, quick stop. The free cheese samples are a very nice touch. The employees are very friendly and the entire building is clean and nicely decorated with a lot of fun tidbits of information. The gift shop is huge! Prices are surprisingly reasonable and this is a great spot to find gifts for people. I can't comment on their food, but their ice cream is delicious! A flight of 3 scoops of ice cream is only $9. The lines get long waiting for ice cream and they don't move too fast, which is really my only gripe. They also close pretty early. The wait in line was worth it though. Overall, highly recommend if you're visiting from out of town or just want fresh, delicious ice cream! read more

Super fun day trip from Portland! Loved all the food options (both ice cream and cheese). We tried pretty much everything and I'd say the cheese curds and mac and cheese are a can't miss, the pizza you can't miss if you love (or haven't yet tried) Detroit style, but the grilled cheese and the burger are pretty standard fare. Service moved very quickly especially for the amount of people there. The gift shop is really fun and you can take home some really great cheeses. If you are coming from out of town I recommend coming early in your trip so you can bring some home, tragically none of us could buy the rarer cheeses due to flights the next day. One thing I would have loved more of was more information/experiences in the cheese making process included in the free self-guided tour, it focuses more on packaging. I love to see machinery and the actual 'how it's made', but unfortunately didn't have time for the paid tour. Overall though, fun place and worth a stop! Tillamook Creamery, one of Oregon's hugest attractions. Worth it for the food? Absolutely no. 3 Star food at best. Worth it for the ice cream? Absolutely YES. I'm not a big cheese or dairy person. It just always so heavy and makes me feel lethargic afterwards. But with the ice cream and all the wonderful different flavors, you get none of that dairy heaviness, nor sticky mouth etc. Its just made differently and tastes differently in the best way. Absolutely going to be on the list to re-visit whenever near again. The facility itself is kinda cool, walk upstairs and you get to see the process of events on how milk to cheese is made, the slicing, the QA, the packaging with education around how each step is done with signage for you to read. I'm not sure how the workers doing all the supply chain work could stand it though as I was getting a bit nauseous looking at SO MUCH CHEESE, but perhaps they are true lovers of cheese so that could be it. Alot of cool merch in the shop, jams apparels, ice cream, cheese, and a whole ton of stuff to buy for the road trip. Everything there is also clean, bright, and decently organized. What a fun place and visit on our Coastal Oregon trip. Its a lovely 2 floor building with the cheese making process and samples on the 2nd floor and a shop and food on the 1st floor. The cheese making was explained very simply yet with great details and the samples were yum. My favorite was the cheddar. There are food options like Mac n cheese and pizza and an ice cream counter. We got the 3 flavor sampler-oregon strawberry, marionberry pie and the waffle cone bits. It all tasted great! read more

The overall experience was very touristy. There was a short self guided tour but you didn't get to see the cheese getting made, only how it was packaged. There are more tours you can pay for. We got a flight of the ice cream flavors but when asking to sample before we chose them, we were told they can only give us one sample each. It felt a little stingy considering how big the company is. The Oregon strawberry and Marion berry pie were our favorites. The strawberry and crème was sold out sadly. We really enjoyed making this stop with the kids. Both our 5 and 2 year old loved playing pretend feeding the calf. There was another interactive area for milking the cow but it was out of order. There were cheese samples upstairs. A huge gift shop and a lot of seating indoor and outdoors. The ice cream shop had an outdoor and indoor place to order so the lines went fast. For 9 dollars we were able to get 3 HUGE portions of ice cream flavors and share between the four of us. Also, if you ask you can purchase just a waffle cone so we bought 2 and scooped some of the ice cream flavors in it for the kids so we could portion out enough for them. read more

There is nothing more identifiable for Tillamook county. Then the Tillamook creamery. The creamery visitor Center was redone a few years ago and it is far more modernized. An excellent counter for ice cream on one side and a hot counter with fantastic cheese curds on the other. Of course the highlight is going upstairs and watching the factory in action on tasting the cheese samples of course! read more

Truly, the absolute highlight of my visit up the Pacific North west. 1) Got to charge my car FOR FREE. 2) Stepped into the food hall to the most delicious of foods with clean, abundant seating, 3) Free tour that kept me engaged for about an hour if not more 4) Was fed free cheese on a FREE tour 5) Fantastic gift shop with more cheeses than you ever thought Tillamook could make. The space was really well maintained and very well laid out. The tour took you upstairs above the factory floor, so you could see the creamy magic bring made real-time. It was so interesting and educational. The food was all amazing. I've been telling everyone about my mind-blowing ice cream nachos, which were chocolate waffle chips, dipped in chocolate on one side, layered with a giant scoop of ice cream of choice. I was in Portland for a wedding so got a rental car. I'm so glad I had the car. I was able to make the trip out to a Tillamook Creamery on my last day before I flew home. I'm a huge fan of dairy and cheese, preferably Tillamook. I can taste the difference. This is a free experience if you can make it out here. There's plenty of parking. The drive is gorgeous. If you're interested in the process, you'll have no problem spending hours here. Unfortunately we arrived one hour before they closed so we rushed through. They had five cheese samples at the end. You can take one of each. I found my new favorite cheese. I wish we had come at the beginning of our trip so I could have purchased cheese. I wet straight to the airport after this so I couldn't buy any :( I got other goodies though. Although I do think the gift shop was exorbitantly priced, you may get lucky and find decent deals on clearance. Make sure you come hungry. Tillamook Creamery is one of the coolest attractions to explore in the Oregon Coast. They offer paid tours with tasting menus or free self-guided tours. There is a huge parking lot with a good amount of parking spots. Wifey and I pulled up with our homies for one of the self-guided tours and we had a great time. We were able to sample some cheeses and some ice cream flavors. In addition to the tours, they also have a really nice gift shop and food court. We ended up grabbing lunch at the food court to end off our tour with some burgers and milkshakes! read more

The Tillamook Creamery is a MUST VISIT when coming to this part of Oregon. I have always want to visit and finally got to last month. Tillamook was formed in 1909 and produces ~ 69 million pounds of cheese per year! Tillamook Creamery started to make ice cream in 1947. My husband and I did the self guided tour, which allows for you to learn brief history of Tillamook and how they came to be and then walk you through the cheese production line. I really liked seeing the production from above, via bird's eye view. And at the end there is a small sampling station, which you are able to try 3 different types of cheese (Although from photos from other fellow Yelp members, it seems that there were even more types of cheese one was able to sample years before). After going through the self guided tour, we found ourselves downstairs in the gift shop. I ended up purchasing a few souvenirs and then we decided to get some ice cream. Because we came on a Tuesday, it wasn't busy. But when we were in line for the ice cream the employees behind the counter seemed rude. When I asked one of the employees (I am going to assume of college age) if I can try a sample, she told me that I could only be limited to one sample.... She seemed bothered that I was asking her to do her job and help provide service. Also she seemed annoyed that I had interrupted her conversation with another employee about her own personal plans that she was going to do after her shift. I ended up ordering: Double Scoop Ice cream, $7- My husband and I decided to split ths double scoop and get Vanilla Bean and MarionBerry Pie. The vanilla really was very good. I have not had vanilla ice cream quite like this, as it had a very nice natural flavor of vanilla and was not overpowering or tasted artificial. I also really liked the marionberry pie flavor. I also had learned during our trip to the Pacific North West that marionberries grown in Oregon. For the size of this double scoop, it was pretty good for the price. There is also a cafe in which you can order food but I only wanted to have the ice cream during our visit. I am really glad that we ended up coming here (minus the poor customer service and hope Tillamook Creamery will retrain their employees). read more

Tillamook Creamery is a gigantic factory that has food that you could eat, ice cream, and also a free non-guided tour that you do yourself. This place is massive and very pretty and informative as well! I had no idea how much work was needed to make that slice of cheese! Wow, it is pretty cool, and don't forget to get your free samples. There is also a gift store filled with a ton of fun merchandise and I decided to get a magnet and a cheese slicer from here. Overall I think this place would be fun for kids and adults as well! Tillamook, it's a great story, in short, stop and enjoy. We took the cheese tour that we paid for it in advance, and we were rewarded with a cheese tasting that really reminded me of how wine tastings occur. At the end of the tour, we got five samples on a tray and we were able to compare aged cheese with cheese that was more recently produced. It was quite enlightening, and it ended up having a negative impact on my wallet. We had lunch there which was served quickly and efficiently, and everybody in our group seemed happy with the lunch. On this occasion, we are with My Daughter and her husband and four kids. So when I say that everybody was happy, it's rather unusual to have that many people happy at one sitting. I know this will surprise you but beyond cheese they make a lot of really good ice cream. In fact, half of our family snuck back in the next day for some ice cream. My wife and I weren't invited and were still a little bit upset about that. A bit of advice for you is to know that you won't be alone at the factory. No need to worry though as there's plenty of adequate parking and they've built the facility for the crowds they attract. Also of note, every staff member that we bumped into was nice and friendly. They've clearly created a climate and culture intended to make the guest's happy. Again, in short, this is a great stop, especially if you're into cheese and ice cream. read more

My wife & I have been taking trips to visit family in Portland for years, but only recently drove out to Tillamook to check out the Creamery.  We made the drive out west on a Thursday, thinking it would be relatively quiet.  I was surprised to see so many people coming out to visit on a spring weekday.  There were plenty of families and couples making the drive to the coast. If I'm going to get in my car and drive almost 2 hours to get to a place, I'm going to make it worth my while.  We arrived on site a little before noon and promptly got in line to get lunch.  My wife ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and upgraded her side to a cup of tomato soup.  I chose the cheeseburger with an upgraded side of fried cheese curds, along with 2 fountain sodas.  In a short while, a server brought us our food.  My wife loved her sandwich and soup (which had cheese curds in it!).  The burger was very good; I was impressed that the brioche bun was soft enough to bite into, but has a strong enough exterior to hold everything together even though I got some of the "secret sauce" all over my hands.  And there were plenty of fried cheese curds for me and my wife to share! After lunch, we walked around the retail store before checking at the info booth for the guided tour and cheese tasting.  While there is a free self-guided tour with few tastings, I enjoy getting a professional's perspective and paid for the guided tour.  Our tour guide gave us a very thorough history of the Tillamook company, along with a comprehensive explanation on the cheese making and packing process.  After walking around for 30 or so minutes, we were led to a private tasting room, where we had the chance to sample 5 different cheeses, including several of their Maker's Reserve cheeses, not available in the regular tasting area.  My favorite was the Aged Sweet cheese, while my wife loved the 6-year cheese. With this first tour completed, we had more time to kill.  Since it was raining off and all day, we stayed in the dining area and chilled.  Soon enough, we walked back to the info booth for the Ice Cream Tasting Experience.  This time, our tour guides led us to another building on the property, where they had us taste multiple ice creams will sharing information on the ice cream making process.  There were some activities along the way, which were very instructive about the company's research and development department.  At the conclusion of this tasting, our guides gave us a very nice gift to all the participants (which was very unexpected and kind).   Finally, we went back to the main building, purchased a few souvenirs from the gift shop, and headed back to our hotel in Portland.  All-in-all, we spent the majority of the day at the Creamery. But we had such a good time, I'll convince my local family to come back with us on our next visit! read more

I recently visited Tillamook Creamery, and, as far as food factories go, it was an okay visit. The factory was very well-lit, bright, and exceptionally clean. Most of the visitors were young couples without children, followed by couples with children, old people, families-- and me, by myself. More than anything else, this is just a giant Tillamook gift shop. The signing, merchandising and marketing are great, but the Tillamook products sold here aren't any fresher than the same products sold elsewhere. I purchased an affogatto for $7 from the ice cream line, and it was just okay. The ice cream did not taste even slightly fresher than what I could purchase out of a freezer in Northern California. The cold brew Stumptown coffee came from a plastic bottle from a fridge under the counter. The bottle looked like it had had the label removed, been written on with Sharpie, and filled several times with hot coffee and then refrigerated, in spite of all of this being against food safety laws for a disposable plastic container. There is a free self guided tour, and it's not bad. While it wasn't as comprehensive as tours at other factories, it did showcase most of the robots and machines and cheese making processes. There was a cheese counter upstairs handing out samples of fresher-than-store-bought cheese, and this was probably the best part of the tour. The young man working the counter looked absolutely frazzled after eight hours of reminding mothers with large families to please only take one sample of each cheese per person. He looked grateful that I complied without having to be asked twice. But, I was thinking, four ounces of cheese is a lot for just me, but if I had a bunch of kids with me? Kids can put down a lot of cheese. I could empathize with the mother in front of me. Overall, this seems like a requisite stop for young Oregon couples, and it was fun. But, if you're limited on time as an out-of-town tourist, I would not consider this a must-see activity. read more

Made a trip to the creamery and tour yesterday and we all left happy and full. The self guided tour was easy, interactive and well planned out. I loved the addition of samples at the end. The cafe was super easy and convenient. Staff were very friendly and the food delicious. We opted to try a variety of items from the macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, pizza, cheese curds and the broccoli cheese soup. There were 4 of us eating and we had leftovers that came home with us. We didn't try the ice cream there, but instead we decided to each buy a small pint of a different flavor and take it home for later. The shop they have had a great variety of tillamook products and gift items. We all found something to take back as a souvenir and a snack. This was a great family friendly stop and we would definitely come back again. read more

Drove 1.5 hours each way from Portland to get here. The drive both ways were pleasant, easy, and beautiful. There was plenty of free parking. Came during a weekday. It wasn't crowded at all, but there were a good amount of people still. We opted to do the free self-guided tour. The tour was upstairs where they showcased raising the cows to making the cheese. It was pretty cool to see the workers pack the cheese. We spent about half an hour at the tour. We got four samples of cheese at the end of the tour. We then headed downstairs and stocked up on cheese, ice cream, and souvenirs. There's a dining area across the gift shop. We were a big fan of their cheeses, but it was our first time trying their ice cream. We got the old fashioned vanilla ice cream and it was amazing. Been going to costco for ever and been buying Tillamook cheddar cheese for days. I came to visit my sister out here in Oregon and my niece told me about the Tillamook Creamery. I had to go check it out!!! First off the whole place is beautiful along with the scenery. Just looks very inviting. The place looks amazing and even tho there wasnt any tour guides the whole thing was pretty self explanatory. They have the whole production of cheese numbered all you have to do is follow the numbers and read the description. I do feel like once u get to the side where they package the cheese you should do it in reverse and watch how they cut it before they package it. Thats my only complaint. I do want to know what do they do with all the excess cheese they cut off the 40lb blocks and also with the cheese that gets rejected from the converter belt. They have free cheese samples, a huge souvenir shop and some fire ass food! The pizza was hella good with a mad cheese pull. The fried cheese curds were good but i thought they were a little salty. The ice cream was.......omg thats all I'm a say. I got the little tray with 3 scoops. The caramel toffee was my favorite out of the other two. We were there early so the food line wasnt bad but the ice cream line was long af with only one register open. They also had a room where you could connect the milk extractor on the cows utters. I came to get some cheese and left with so much more. The bonus is that I can charge our Tesla while shopping so we have a full battery for when we head home tomorrow! Cashier was nice. So many options, so excited for the garlic chili cheddar cheese I got, it's the best! I do have to say as someone who is disabled getting to the factory is a lot of work and exhausting if you need a Tesla charger. There is one way in and out for all cars and people, it would be nice if there was a crosswalk to the factory on hwy 6 from where the Tesla chargers are. read more

What a fun experience at the Tillamook Cheese Factory!! Tillamook was a must-visit for us during our PNW anniversary trip back in August. In fact, it was the very first place we visited at the beginning of our trip. As cheese aficionados, we couldn't pass up the opportunity, especially when the self-guided tour of the factory was free. All of the information on the signs and diagrams was super easy to read and understand, and especially since I've learned about cheese-making in microbiology (way back in my college days), it was a nice refresher. It was really neat to be able to walk through each station in the cheese-making and packaging process and watch the factory employees work at each station. The efficiency of everything was so mesmerizing. We arrived 10 minutes before the public side of the factory opened, and there was already a line, even though we came on a weekday. Soon after the doors opened, and people started arriving in droves. There were cheese samples, and that day we had the option to try the medium cheddar and the pepper jack. Obviously I had to try both. I'm not new to having Tillamook cheese, as it's usually my cheese of choice for whatever I use it for (usually spicy Korean ramen), but it was such a neat experience enjoying it fresh at the place of origin. Guests have the option of booking a paid group tour of the factory, but the tour guide literally walks guests in the same area where the self-guided tour is, so personally I don't think it's worth the money. After we finished the self-guided tour, we went down to snag some souvenirs. We didn't end up buying any cheese as we didn't really see the need to, and we were also camping for the majority of our trip. We had a cooler with us, but it just wouldn't have been the smart choice for us to carry a block of cheese for over a week. We settled with some small souvenirs like a magnet, sticker, and shot glass. By the time we were done at the gift shop, the grounds were teeming with people. It was basically lunchtime, and there was a huuuuge line for the ice cream, as well as a growing line for the food. While we understood the hype for having fresh Tillamook ice cream, we did not want to deal with the crowds. As we meandered outside to get some fresh air, we saw that there was a line growing for ice cream at the outdoor side of the creamery as well. The only food we would have wanted to try at the factory would have been the cheese curds, but alas, they were sold out of them that day. Next time I guess. We brought some cheese for our Siberian to enjoy once we got back to the car--see video--(thankfully it wasn't a hot day so he could stay in the car), and then we headed out to enjoy seafood at The Fish Peddler instead. It was crazy how busy the visitor center and creamery got for a weekday in August (and it's not like we went when kids were still out of school), but honestly it was to be expected, for how famous this cheese factory is. We are super glad we got to visit the cheese factory and creamery, and would definitely return to hopefully enjoy some cheese curds on our next visit!! read more

If you're in Oregon specially the coastal areas this is a must if you're a cheese lover. Tillamook cheese is a favorite not only for the cheese but the ice cream as well. So flavorful! It is free to get in and the upstairs you can take a free guided tour to see how the cheese is made and packaged. Depending how much time you spend learning you can be there for a few hours. They do have guided tours you can pay for as well. There is an area where you can sample cheese as well. We had an aged sharp cheddar that left a lasting taste in our mouths. The deep dish pizza and cheese curds were a great lunch option. We got the sampler of ice cream. Cookie dough, strawberry and the Mayberry. It was all so good. If you have an electric car they have charging stations. There is a nice big grass area with outdoor seating. The gift shop has so much cute unique stuff to remember your trip. Don't forget to take a photo with the Tillamook van inside or the big sign out front! read more

When I lived in Oregon many years ago, the Tillamook Cheese factory was a small one story building with one side of the building a small store to buy cheese and the other side you watched guys manually separating the curds and whey. Wow, things have changed! Now the Creamery is a huge complex with offices, HQ, some other buildings and a huge building for tourists. The tourist building has a short self-tour which walks you through the cheese making process. The entire production process is automated and we saw only one worker. There a very large gift store that has all sorts of food, cheese-related and other things like snacks. There is also a food hall with hot food on one side (burgers, pizza, etc) and ice cream on the other side. We had ice cream and the verdict was that the ice cream is phenomenal, beyond delicious. The milk fat must be 20% or more because the ice cream is so creamy and smooth. It tastes fresh and real, not artificial. I had cherry and it tasted like real cherry; I had strawberry, and it tasted like real strawberries. I had chocolate mint (because it is my favorite and I have to have it) and it tasted like real mint. There is ample seating at the food hall, inside and out, and plenty of parking. It's all free. Obviously, the Tillamook brand and Creamery have taken off in popularity because it was quite busy. Good for them. Support your farmers! read more

July 31, 2025 - Tillamook I wasn't expecting the crowds--or the sheer scale of operations here. I was relieved to find they had a separate parking lot for RVs; it definitely made things easier for us. We arrived hungry, so our first order of business was lunch. Fortunately, the line hadn't gotten too long yet. We ordered the Classic Cheeseburger--a beef patty on a toasted brioche bun with iceberg lettuce, tomato, dill pickle, and their secret sauce ($15.00). Of the three cheese options, we chose the extra sharp cheddar. We also ordered the Maker's Salad, which came with spring mix, asparagus, hard-boiled egg, toasted cashews, 2014 Maker's Reserve Cheddar, and a house-made red wine vinaigrette ($16.00). We were given a table tracker pager to alert us when our meal was ready. There wasn't much space inside, and it was quite loud, so we opted to sit outside instead. The wait was about 10 to 15 minutes--not bad at all, considering how busy it was. We probably would've gotten our food a bit sooner if we'd known that, for outdoor seating, you need to place the tracker pager on the designated spot at the table. They found us by yelling out our order number. After lunch, we took the self-guided tour upstairs to learn more about their operations. It was very informative. I was especially intrigued by the section on cow milking--I had no idea just how automated the process has become. Then we wandered past the windows overlooking the cheese processing area, where we could watch the workers in action below. At the sample station, we were offered a few tasty bites--some cheese, summer sausage, and best of all, a small taste of the Mudslide chocolate ice cream. Perfect trip with my Best friend, last visit was awful. This one knocked it out the park! The food was amazing this time, the staff were engaging and lovely. They had a great vibe. We order what seemed to be everything on the menu to try. It was all great and what we had hoped for. If you are passing by make sure you stop you won't be disappointed. read more

The store is nice, spread out. I didn't go check out the factory part upstairs but we did get good. The lines for food and ice cream are really long but efficient. I was in line at least 10 minutes to order food and another 10 to get it. Thick crust pizza!! Note: bring a cooler in case you buy cheese or ice cream to take home. read more

We were on a Boy Scout Summer Camp Trip at Camp Meriweather and had to stop to try the amazing food at the Creamery. Be prepared to wait in a number of lines depending on what you're looking to order. It definitely pays to bring the whole family so you can "divide and conquer" and then the hunt for a table begins. It wasn't that bad, I'm just being dramatic but after a 4 hour flight, a 1 hour bus ride, and 23 scouts that we were herding like cats, we definitely built up an appetite. It was well worth the trip and was reasonably priced as well. Don't have any delusions in your mind of getting a healthy meal here because there are a bunch of comfort food and dessert options that will induce a near immediate food coma but you only live once right? One helpful hint is to buy the prepacked ice cream rather than scoops. It's much faster and you actually will get a larger quantity for a lower price. Very ideal when you've got multiple mouths to feed on your visit. I'll go back to the gym on Monday to start working it all off. :) read more

The Tillamook Creamery is not a farm. You're not gonna see cute cows roaming green pastures. Instead, you'll see the big bad industrial machines that process the milk and turn it into cheese. Mistake #1: going on labor day. It was packed with long lines for ice cream and food. If you're gonna go, definitely don't go on a holiday. If you're someone who reads all the placards, good luck reading the Tillamook timeline with people lined up for ice cream blocking the view of the wall. Mistake #2: expecting the food to actually be good. It's not the cheese that's bad, it's the pizza dough, the bread, and all the non-dairy components that make the food mediocre. And the fact they don't really serve the food hot. The best dish was the mac and cheese which really showcased the cheese. We really wished it was served hotter. The actual museum was pretty informative and detailed Tillamook's long history of cheesemaking. They touch on different types of cows, which breeds produce the most milk, what is used in cow feed, and automated processes in which the cows are milked ( :( ) . You also get to see the machines and workers that process the milk in the factory. When I went with my bf, we only saw one part of the process where the cheese was already in block form. Not sure if it was because we went late in the day, but there wasn't much live action. Lastly, there is a section where you get your free samples (three cheeses) and a wall of testimonials of people who enjoyed Tillamook products. Tillamook knows how to market their products because they market how amazing they are right before you go down the stairs to their gift shop/market. The gift shop has a large variety of all the different cheeses they sell in addition to merch and souvenirs. It's a nice market and you can buy cheese and ice cream in bulk. While this isn't ideal if you don't live in the area, it must be great for the people who live nearby. Am I mad that I learned about the sad reality of industrialization? No. But has this changed my perception of companies like Tillamook? Yes. I'm more likely to shop for local dairy products now. Not to say I'll never have a Tillamook product again as their products are still good, but what I learned from the museum has made me second guess my dairy purchases. read more

What a fun way to spend a little time in Tillamook with friends and family. We took the guided tour with premium cheese tasting and enjoyed our guide, Sara's energy and knowledge of the cheese making process, flavor profiles, and company history. If you are a "curd nerd" it's fun! You can also do a self guided tour and a free cheese tasting. The gift shop is one of the best I have seen at a tour venue. They had many different cheeses, ice cream, local Oregon foods, hats, t-shirts, stickers, and more. There is lots of parking but be advised that in busy summer months they may have 10k visitors per day or more. read more
