Well I rolled into Grateful Bread in Pacific City, chasing that coastal breeze and a little morning sunshine... and found myself right in the middle of a breakfast jam session. The walls are alive with local art, colors dancing, Grateful Dead vibes everywhere you look. Even the menu's singing... dish names straight out of a setlist, like you're ordering breakfast at a show that never really ended. Now the Marionberry French toast... oh man. That one hits like a perfect riff at just the right moment. Sweet, rich, and laid back in all the right ways and like it knew exactly why you showed up. They've got fresh baked goods dialed in too and this is their thing, and you can taste it in every bite. Service? Kinda like a wandering solo... not always in sync, not always warm, but hey the music (aka the food) keeps the whole thing together. In the end, it's one of those places you stumble into and remember later with a smile. If the road ever brings us back through Pacific City, we'll swing by again and let it play on. read more

We've been vacationing in Pacific City for years (decades, if I'm being honest) and Grateful Bread is one of our "must stops". Our boys looked forward to it when they were 8, and they still look forward to it now that they're in their 20s. The scones are amazing--the savory ham & cheese is our favorite--and the breakfasts are a good way to start the day. There is sometimes a wait (esp on weekend mornings in the summer) but it's worth the wait. You can also get their scones and baked goods to go from their counter, so if you see a line, don't let it scare you from going in to see if there's a table! Usually very nice servers and everyone seems friendly and relaxed. Hard to be uptight with the laid back vibe of The Grateful Dead all around. I don't know why I never thought to review it before, but Grateful Bread is an integral part of our annual beach trip! read more

I'd bump this to 3 1/2 stars if I could. The scones are 5-star. They had a perfect crunch on the outside and were warm and flaky in the inside. It was quite perfect and amazing! The biscuits with my breakfast scramble were also 5-star good for similar reasons. The scramble itself was fine but nothing special. The service was fine. It took awhile to get served and we didn't have a dedicated server, so it was a bit random, but it was fine. It's pretty spacious to handle a fair number of customers. It was pretty busy in a Friday at 10 or so. The oat milk served in the side with my coffee was nice. It was a solid experience. Definitely come for the scones as they were amazing! read more

Grateful bread is a charming little eatery and bakery in Cloverdale, offering breakfast, brunch and lunch options. We strolled in about 10:30am and there was plenty of open seating. The service was hot and cold - it took at least 10 minutes to place an order. It seems like the staff doesn't have a specific zone that they are in charge of, they help whatever table looks to need service. We had 2-3 different associates that provided us service. We weren't super hungry so we decided to share a cherry almond scone and the special egg scramble (ham, Brie, spinach and tomato) with biscuits and potatoes. Whomever is baking is chefs kiss - the cherry almond scone is one of the BEST I've ever eaten. Scone is 10 out of 10!! I should've ordered two but by the time I thought of it they were sold out. Big bummer for me. I did purchase another two scones to go - Lemon raspberry and Marionberry. The entree itself came out piping hot which I appreciate. Wow a breakfast of my dreams. Super friendly and fast service (even on a busy Saturday morning!) bright, nostalgic ambiance (helps if you know Grateful Dead but not necessary!) and satisfying, comforting breakfast. We ordered breakfast scrambles, omelette, and pancakes. The scrambles reminded me of the kind of breakfast my husband and I used to go out to get on weekends in a tiny coastal California town about 20 years ago. Loaded with veggies, with the perfect sides: crust roasted potatoes and fluffy biscuits. Even the jam was out of this world. I also ordered a latte and it came in a glass mug. It was rich and strong! This place is a must visit! We walked here from the Surf and Sand Inn down the street, arriving about 10 minutes before they opened on a Friday morning and there were people waiting already. That's a good sign. While waiting for opening with three kids, we checked out all of the blooming flowers in the pots and near the little bench near the back. Turns out they're growing quite a few edible plants there, we found chives, sage and rosemary but I am sure there were more. Once they opened, they were able to seat our group of six inside right away. The bakery items looked amazing but we came for a full breakfast so saved those for later. The staff brought the kids a cup of a variety of colored crayons and paper for the kids to draw on. All the kids got the french toast dippers. I don't recall what my sister ordered, but my mom got the oatmeal and I ordered the Gallo Pinto. Serving size on that was just right! Any more and I wouldn't have walked out. It was good and flavorful, I did use the tortillas but thinking back I think I liked it better just as a bowl. The oatmeal serving was pretty large, my mom ended up sharing quite a bit of hers with some very hungry grandchildren. Must have been pretty good for them to keep asking for more of it. We ended up ordering basically 1 of each type of the scones they had and couple other pastry items, to take to go for the next morning. The scones are sizable and even the next couple days, everything was SO GOOD. They are not dry and overly crumbly, so much flavor. Not so sweet that you feel like you're just eating sugar. Honestly, the best scones I've ever had. The staff were very nice, clearly comfortable with each other and many of the patrons. We even caught snippets of the chef singing a tune or two. We ordered the veggie omelet, the smoked salmon scramble, some bacon and a London fog. The omelette was stuffed with a generous portion of fresh veggies, the smoked salmon was spot on, the bacon was cooked to perfection, and the tea was delicious. I love this place and I can see why this is a local favorite. The baked goods are so good!!! Really wish we had one of these stores back home! We stopped by for breakfast since this is one of the places that opens early in the morning and was surprised to find people already dining! I ordered the veg omelette which was packed full of delicious vegetables and my partner got the quiche of the day which was dense. The star here though was the homemade biscuits and strawberry jam! I really wish they sold their jam because it was the best I have ever had in my life. It's perfectly sweet and the texture is super spreadable. There is plenty of indoor seating if you're in a larger group. I would say parking is a bit difficult as it looks like there only a few spots at the front of the bakery so go at opening like I did or prepare to find parking elsewhere. read more

I think if you are looking for takeout coffee and pastries, this is a great spot. The giant cookies looked amazing. Iced latte was terrific. The dining room experience was kind of lacking. A hidden gem! Cookies, biscuits, pancakes, omelette, espresso, potatoes, brownie and bacon all the breakfast things and more perfectly done home cooked food here. Oh and lunch menu too but this is by far the best breakfast bakery shop I have found on the Oregon coast yet. The cookies, scones and cinnamon rolls appear to be a favorite here as well, I saw a line for bakery pick ups when I came in for breakfast. It's a nice local restaurant and with a wonderful array of fresh veggies served up so please be patient when you show up, especially on a weekend, it is understandable to me that the food is made with care so it will take a bit for it to come out but so worth it. A super busy restaurant in Pacific City. Well loved by the locals, and a must go to for visitors. Locals come in and out to order and pick up pasties, breads, etc. Waited over an hour for a table for our party. Considering they were busy it gave us time to visit while waiting outside. Fortunately they had some resin chairs to sit on. I ordered the Dory caught grilled cod with a side of clam chowder. The sandwich was wonderful. The cod was flaky, and deep fried to perfection. The clam chowder I wouldn't order again. It was basically a potato veggie chowder with no hint of clams, nor taste of clams. Service wasn't attentive. You had to ask multiple times for water, and other items. I'm looking forward to trying other items on their menu, and some of their pastries. read more

Friends and I spent the weekend in Pacific City. We ended up going to Grateful Bread two of the three days for breakfast! I got Fire on the Mountain the first time, which was a delicious scramble with tomato, chilies, etc. Great flavor. It was served with 2 homemade biscuits and potatoes. The second time I ordered French Toast with marionberry compote on their house made brioche. While I liked that, it was a little thickly cut and bready. The sauce was good. Probably one of the best scones I've ever had! I wish I would've bought one of every flavor. I thought the baguette was a little heavy. And their rebel bar was a little disappointing however, my teenage son really enjoyed it. What I didn't appreciate was the very friendly cashier kept touching his hair while filling our order. We are (self-proclaimed!) biscuit & gravy aficionados & these are probably the best we've ever had! The biscuits were buttery & flaky & served warm under a generous serving of gravy! No skimping on the amazing gravy here! The gravy had a little kick to it, probably from the sausage, but just enough to let you know your mouth is alive! The gravy was the perfect consistency- not too thick & not too runny! Truly amazing B&G!!! We also had a half order of French toast & yum! The challah bread was subtly sweet & nicely complimented the Marion berry compote! We used to love this place. Been there several times. Visit yesterday was not so great. Waited a bit to be seated, waited a long time to get coffee, waited an even longer time for food. When it arrived it wasn't all that great. The potatoes tasted like hotel breakfast potatoes that had been cooked and sitting for a long time.
