Ropewalk has mostly good food, great views, and good service. I gave it only 2 stars because we ate there yesterday and ordered the crab and shrimp mac & cheese for $24. The portion was unacceptable. They either need to double the portion or halve the price. It was insulting. It was pasta, cheese, a slight topping of crab, and was the size of a kid's portion. Wegmans charges $12 for a portion twice the size that has a generous portion of lobster. Do not order this entree. A total rip-off. read more

Never again! We had heard good things about the Ropewalk in Ocean City, so we decided to try the one in Bethany while we were driving through. What a mistake. We got the clam strips and fried oysters for the table. The clam strips were the worst I've ever had - very chewy and didn't taste good. Didn't even come close to finishing them. We told the waitress we wanted the oysters fried crispy. The breading wasn't even cooked on most of them. Again - didn't finish them. I got the crawfish. They were so dry, they were inedible. Crawfish are supposed to be juicy - you know, suck the heads juicy. These were so dry I could pull the entire crawfish out of the shell without even peeling it! Somebody doesn't know what they're doing in that kitchen, that's for sure. Won't waste my time or money there ever again. read more

There must be a severe crab and bacon shortage in Bethany Beach. How else can you explain the scarcity of those two advertised ingredients on the Cobb salad? Apparently, lettuce in this part of the country carries a steep price tag. That's the only conceivable justification for the $19 tariff on this wholly unsatisfying bowl of greens. Beyond disappointed. We were very excited because of location near Bethany Boardwalk, butsimply awful. I cannot even chalk it up to a new business, just too many errors. The crab dip is something mushy out of Aldi's freezer, with only a few tortilla chips. We waited 20 minutes for additional chips, so it was cold and entrées had already arrived. Fish tacos had less than no flavor--I had to douse with Old Bay to choke them down for $16. The only Chardonnay by the glass is warm Rex Goliath. Husband had the fried oysters that are to be a house specialty--as soggy as leftovers. I had to ask 3 times for water and finally stopped waitress in the hall. A definite don't stop. read more

The play area on the first floor when you walk In is so cute (a little ship play area wine sand)...we sat upstairs on the deck and could see the entire downtown at night which was beautiful. Food was good (not great)...but I think it was the ambiance and cool decorations and seating arrangement that got me (and my kids)....service was attentive. The appetizers tasted like they were a microwave meal and the dinners weren't any better. We tried to let management know about our experience, but it seems like they do not care. The boat playground on sand sold our family. my two boys loved playing there while we waited for food. I enjoyed the grapefruit crush and overall chill ambiance and family friendly environment but the food was just ok. I got the jerk chicken salad but the chicken was dry and my husband got the flounder roulade and was ok. We stopped in the bar area in September 2018. Bartenders were nice and made great drinks. We liked the way the place looked, too. We went back for a dinner and drinks September 2019. Service was slow,server was missing for most of the time that we were there, couldn't get drinks during the meal. Someone else from the kitchen brought our food out and said he'd let our server know that we needed drinks. Food was as good as your local Long John Silver's restaurant. I usually tip 20% without question. I know that even if service is a little off, there's a lot that servers have to do and we don't see it. I gave 15% this time. Went hear in April and the food was good. Came here this past Wednesday and was so disappointed. I was with a party of 10 and not one good meal. The biggest complaint was that everything lacked flavor. I had the scallops with orzo and the scallops had a good garlic lemon flavor but the orzo was so bland that salt didn't even help. The stuffed flounder was soooo white it looked like it was boiled not roasted and for a crab stuffing there was no crab flavor. 10 meals and 10 dissatisfied customers. Overall this location had great service, very appetizing food and a great outdoor seating option. The only reason I chose to write this review was to mention the amount of flies this location had. I mean, we were a party of 8 and noticed as soon as we sat down. We really started having to swat groups of flies when we got our crab cake spring rolls (which where delicious). We were getting annoyed but thought "whatever, it's not terrible". Boy were we wrong. As our entrees got here, not only did the flies come right back, but there was ten times more than before. Oh yeah, and did I mention that we were inside! Our food was COVERED in flies and constantly coming near our heads and legs. It was so bad that one of the two year olds we had brought started crying over them. They had left to go to the bathroom and in SECONDS their chicken fingers had at least ten flies on them. We felt rushed to get out because of this issue. All of us felt so terrible for our waitress because of course this wasn't her fault! All I'm trying to say is that this place needs to fix this issue or else things may not end well. But as I said earlier, awesome food and great service. I went to the Ropewalk in Bethany Beach for Sunday brunch. I had scrambled eggs and bacon. I asked for toast and I was told that have no bread. Tell a place that serves breakfast and has no toast, bagel, or some sort of bread to go with it. One person in my party asked for sunny-side eggs and He was told that they couldn't do that...only scrambled...They did serve poached eggs but other than that all they would serve was scrambled. read more

Our waiter had inadequate training. He did not know the answers to our questions, mixed up our drinks, repeatedly asked what we ordered, and handed the checks out in a pile instead of individually. What restaurant has a liquor license, but does not have a blender...this one. the manager came to our table to explain this to me, and she not very friendly (to put it nicely). That was the only time we saw her. At all the other restaurants we went to in Bethany Beach, the managers were constantly seen, helping the wait staff and checking on things. If this restaurant was better managed, it could be improved. However, we have already decided that will go elsewhere. read more

I was hesitant to try Ropewalk and as expected it was horrible. I asked the waitress if any fish dishes were fresh. She was honest and said everything was frozen. The very large sign on the wall states Fresh Seafood. I guess they mean fresh frozen. I ordered a plain burger It came with velveeta cheese and what they called a crab dip on top. I scraped it off and would have been more satisfied with 5 guys down the street. My wife decided to be more adventuresome with a plate of stuffed flounder. She had a hard time finding the crab meat. Our party of 6 was seated in the upstairs outdoor dining at about 5 PM on a Monday night and there was only another family dining. We ordered the crab and artichoke dip, fried pickles, deadliest steamer pot, Maine lobster pot, chicken tenders with waffle fries, NY Strip steak with mashed potatoes and green beans, Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and green beans, and pork tacos. The crab and artichoke dip was very salty and had little crab, I would skip it. The fried pickles were delicious, but if you can't handle spicy, best to stay away. The deadliest crab steamer pot was VERY salty and the crab was not very sweet and was very bland, even covered in old bay. The chicken tenders are small and the portion is VERY small, definitely kids menu size. By far, the steaks were the best options on the menu and were enjoyed by both under 18 diners. Our bill was $217. It was just okay for a giant bill. Probably would return for less expensive menu items and skip the steamers. read more
