My friend was looking for a lunch place that had seafood and a nice outdoor view! We saw this place has some rooftop seating and decided to try it. When reading the menu, I didn't realize the restaurant originated in Baltimore which was interesting. I was excited to get my first crush of the season. I got a key lime crush which came with whipped cream on top which was weird but whatever. The crush was okay. A little too sweet for my liking. Our server was very nice and he checked up on us from time to time. We both got crab cake sandwiches. I upgraded my side with $2 waffle fries. The crab cake itself was a decent size and filled with a bunch of crab. You could tell there was a lot of fillers though. The waffle fries were okay. They arrived lukewarm. Ropewalk in Bethany has great outdoor seating with a nice view of the ocean if you are on the upper deck. The service was unfortunately subpar and the food was deplorable. We asked to sit at a table by the balcony and the host said no and had a bad attitude towards us for asking a question. The simple menu items such as burgers or wings were fine but the pasta and jerk chicken were inedible. The tables were also wet and sticky upon sitting down. If you are considering ropewalk go for the drinks and not their food. read more

Feel the restaurant was nice and food was ok but the place was infested with flies. Not even near capacity, they were sitting people in areas without fans so they were constantly attacked by flies. Service was good but they should've stepped up and asked if we wanted to be moved. read more

This restaurant does not take food allergies seriously. Our son has dairy and gluten allergies and despite being very clear when ordering a seafood dish and specifying no butter, drawn butter was splashing around in the dish when it arrived. We asked for a manager and he was unapologetic and said they were "very busy". Nice atmosphere for watching sports though. read more

Ropewalk was able to quickly accommodate the 14 of us. The kids all enjoyed the meals and loved that it came in a frisbee. The crab egg rolls were a delicious app as was the calamari. We had a very unpleasant experience here. The bus boy wiped the table with cleaner and a rag, then proceeded to set down plates and wipe them with that same dirty rag right in front of us, which was off-putting. On top of that, there was a photographer who kept hounding us to buy pictures she took and simply would not take "no" for an answer...very rude and intrusive when you're trying to enjoy dinner. As for the food, the blackened chicken and rice were extremely salty, and the seasoning on the chicken was far too overbearing. The mac and cheese came out barely lukewarm. Went here for lunch/dinner on a Friday afternoon during labor day weekend with some family. The second we walked in, we were greeted with a hostile environment. 5 hostesses at the stand and not a single smile or greeting came from either of the hostesses. We asked a short simple question about seating, they gave us a blank stare all looking at each other and didn't give us an answer until we repeated it 3 times. The restaurant was practically empty when we walked in. When we were seated, the hostess set down the menu's and immediately walked away without a single smile (again) and not a single word was said from her. Not even a "you're welcome" when we thanked her for getting us seated. However, our server was a joy. A great woman that gave us anything we needed. The food was alright and definitely not worth the price. We had ordered the mac n cheese which was pricey for some noodles and cheese. However, we wanted to try it as a safe option and honestly who could get mac n cheese wrong? Ropewalk did. It was bland, barely warm, and the shrimp had no flavor or seasoning. We tried to save it with salt, pepper, and old bay but nothing could save this tasteless meal. The tacos were okay. The burgers were more than medium well and a little dry, but that was fine with us. Have passed by several times and finally decided to try it out. We were there right around the time it opened for lunch, and by the time we were finishing our meal, a good crowd had formed. They have outdoor seating downstairs and also a large balcony with seating upstairs. It was VERY sunny and bright upstairs, so we were going to move, but the server closed the louvre blinds that were on the roof of the balcony and created shade. The appetizers were great. Fried calamari had a very nice coating, and the bada bing shrimp had just the right amount of heat. The crab soup was loaded with crab and had a great consistency and flavor. Biggest hit of the day were the smoked wings. Order more than you think you'll need! Service was terrific and prices (for a beach town) were very reasonable. read more

This place has a great location near the water draws you in with the outdoor covered seating. The goofy Gipper aesthetic aside, it's cute and welcoming. The menu shows lots of GF options! I was looking forward to it. I narrowed it to the Seafood Cobb and the Poke bowl. Can you believe that I had options? For a person with a gluten-allergy, this is AMAZING! I asked the waiter for help deciding. I settled on the Poke bowl. The menu says that it is sesame seared tuna on rice with veg and a sriracha ginger sauce. Technically, that is true. The tuna, which should be the star of this particular show, was not a star. The fish was mushy/slimey and not FRESH. The sauce was blobby. The veggies were the only things that had the texture or taste that they should. If it weren't for the kitschy ambiance, listing GF options on the menu (even though it tasted bad), and the delicious orange crush, I'd have given this place a much lower score. read more

The flounder remoulade consisted of dried out flounder, an orange mush of supposed crab, and extremely salty rice which could have come out of a pre-packaged box. Located on the main street, near the water, this place has lots of outside, covered seating. I had the fish tacos and a Fat Tire. When I go back, I'm going to have the fish tacos and a Fat Tire. No sense messing with perfection. Others in our party foolishly didn't order the fish tacos and were less happy. My wife had the Salmon Poke bowl, and I'll leave it for her to explain in her review why she's not likely to go back again. We typically go here once during our annual summer beach trip. The upstairs balcony is a great place to feel the ocean breeze in a shady environment. It has a bit more of an open feel than Mango's and you can still see the ocean a little bit. The service has always been great, friendly and prompt. Bonus, they don't hover over you, but still made sure our drinks were full and our food was good. The menu has enough options for everyone to find something they will like. We started with deep fried pickles; which were very good; even though they were from frozen pre-made chips. We ended up getting a second order, as my niece happened to be at the beach and came over while we were eating to get a free meal. My youngest got a cheeseburger; he let me take a bite and it was pretty good, I don't think they started with a frozen patty. My middle child had chicken fingers; the chicken was not too oily and still moist. Also most places serve those pre-made frozen Sysco tenders, which tend to be over cooked and dry, the tenders appeared to be made on-site. My oldest ordered a salad with chicken, she liked it. Unfortunately, she's not good at sharing, so I didn't get a chance to taste it. My wife didn't order a meal, she just eats a bit off every plate! For myself, I ordered the tacos Al pastor; they were pretty good and had a nice ratio of pork to pineapple. Not the best I have ever had; they were good, no where near the worst. All the drinks were served in plastic pitchers; so we each had plenty to drink! Which was nice; since we were all parched. Overall, the atmosphere and service are excellent ( both are 5 stars worthy), the quality of the food is good, but it's not why you go there (3 stars worthy). We were there at lunchtime so the place was pretty empty and our server just disappeared, they got my son's meal wrong and they said they would turn it around quickly. Let me start with Ropewalk being very expensive for what the food is. Trying to stay on this keto diet and eating out leaves me limited choices. On Saturday, it was all day happy hour, a few of the appetizers were half price the hickory smoked wings (7) , and the Bada Bing shrimp (bucket), and $1.00 liberty oysters. The smoked wings were so good we had to order a second order of wings. Not realizing, the Bada Bing shrimp, was breaded popcorn shrimp, we had to peel all the breading off to eat ( the shrimp are copycat bonefish grill's bang bang shrimp.) Bottom line: I would come back for happy hour for the hickory smoked wings! Beer prices were cheap $1.00 Natty lights during football game, $2.50 bud light bottles and Bud, and $2.00 off all drafts. This was our first visit here. We arrived without a reservation for lunch. We were able to sit outside in their sandy area to simulate a sandy beach in front overlooking the passerby's on the sidewalk. I started with their blood orange margarita for $10 and ended with their Big Oyster draft Hammerhead beer for $7.50. I also enjoyed their tuna tacos for $17 with fries for an additional $2 or $19 total. The tuna was properly cooked and tasty. The fries were ok. My total bill was $76 less gratuities. What a view. Sunset and all!!! A very big place for plenty of people. The crushes are delicious. Grapefruit is my favorite. The scallops with crab risotto is my favorite and I get it every time I go.
