The atmosphere feels warm and traditional, and the staff is consistently friendly and professional. Personally, I'd give it a solid 4 stars based on my own visits but it easily earns a 5 when it comes to hosting events. I've booked their private room twice. Once for a work event and once for a birthday dinner and both times were a huge success. Everyone raved about everything, from the attentive service to the food and drinks. We had an amazing Valentine's dinner. It was so good, I forgot to take pictures. We got the lobster bites, calamari, filet, whipped potatoes and asparagus. My husband raved that the calamari was like butter. My husband's steak was over done, but the server immediately resolved the situation and brought us a new one. 0 hesitation. Went on a Saturday at 7:30pm and it was packed and very lively. Definitely a nicer place, don't wear sweats! They start off by bringing you a dinner roll (Yorkshire pudding inspired, I think?) which to be honest wasn't my favorite. The French onion soup was solid. But the steak was the highlight of the meal - especially with the truffle butter (ordered it on the side and could see them shaving truffles directly into it right before it hit the table). It was expensive but so worth it. The au poivre was also very good. What a fun time we had at Roots Steakhouse tonight. Jake was our server extraordinaire and really helped make our holiday dinner celebration a special one. At 7pm on a Sunday, the restaurant was buzzing and very busy, as there were lots of holiday and birthday celebrations going on. Noise level was a bit high, but not too bad. Jake was very attentive and provided great recommendations throughout our meal. From the start, my husband loves ice tea and Roots has this great tea brewing system. What a treat for my husband that doesn't drink coffee. The popover was delicious and a nice touch to start of the meal. The lobster bisque i had was just OK... but my husband loved his onion soup. Shrimp cocktail and caesar salads were on point and don't sleep on the butter cake dessert. Yum! After dinner Curtis, the manager came over to say hello and check up on us. He was super friendly and warm and made us feel welcome. I'm not sure what the 3.5 reviews are doing here on Yelp, but this is definitely not a 3.5 restaurant. Came for birthday celebration, a tradition for the family. I got the chicken parm, amazing. Need to mention the popover that came first for everyone, that is SO delicious and devoured in seconds. Met a friend at Roots in Morristown about a month ago, my first time there and it was everything I'd heard it would be. Started at the bar with a beer and he had a 12 year Glenlivet. About $30 for both with tip, typical for higher end drinks in a high end eatery. We proceeded to the table, and were greeted by a highly refined and pro waiter. This wasn't his first day on the job, not even his first decade by all indications. He was the perfect blend of attentive without being needlessly in our face. If you go out enough, you know exactly what I mean. we perused the extensive wine list (noting I believe it's #117 that is over $5,600!!) and settled into a nice $120 bottle of Cab that would compliment our beef choices. Served quickly, uncorked, cork presented for sniff test along with a well churned swill....and he proceeded to continue pouring once approved. Our ceaser salads came out quickly and were just amazing. They don't fresh prepare the dressing at your table like some high end joints, but it was fantastic either way. I don't need to see it, just let me taste it! My friend ordered the NY strip and I followed suit, it was perfect for the evening and I'd actually had a large ribeye earlier in the week at another area restaurant, so this seemed appropriate despite the fact it's not my typical go to. It was flawless, and a perfect size and done to exact temperature as ordered. We also ordered the potatoes au gratin, creamy spinach, and onion rings as sharable sides. I have to say they were simply the best rings I've ever had - completely and perfectly crisped, with no greasy texture at all and accompanied with addictingly delicious dipping sauce. I'm not always a spinach guy, but that was just fantastic and I couldn't really get enough of it. Potatoes were spot on. I'm including photos of all except salad, just forgot to capture that round in pictures. I highly recommend this establishment for anyone that wants a refined dining experience without pomp and circumstance. Our first time at The Morristown Roots. Parking was a drag but once seated that annoyance melted away. Service was impeccable. We started with oysters (East Coast), shrimp cocktail (colossal), Caesar a d wedge salads. All delish. Drinks were excellent. The cider old fashioned was delicious. Everyone got steak naturally. Such a great experience. They definitely have an element of class going on. Some small things that stick out: they use a metal item to clean up the crumbs off of your table to keep everything clean, they fold your napkin if you leave the table, and they keep refilling your water even after you pay your bill so you don't feel rushed. The popover was EXCELLENT. I simply love a good popover. My espresso martini was lovely. And finally, my filet mignon was flavorful and cooked perfectly. From where we were seated, I had a great view of the bar and was distracted every time someone would loudly drag the heavy bar chair across their floor to get in or out of their seat. I imagined placing felt pads underneath each chair leg would possibly correct that issue and maybe save their floors over time. I was craving a cowboy steak ribeye so I had to have it. First thing off, the food was really good. We got steak, mushrooms, and cream spinach. The mushrooms and creamed spinach were a perfect addition to the steak. The steak was really good and we had a sauce come with it that was incredible with the steak. Let me just say that we had a birthday at the table and the dessert that they gave us for free was by far one of the best desserts i've ever had. Fantastic! Everything was just fantastic. Our family of 4 celebrated my son's 30th birthday with a trip to Roots. The local weather folks did a great job of scaring many folks away with their warning of a blizzard of 5" of snow. The restaurant was almost empty on a Sunday night, but we braved the weather and had a great meal. Roots is expensive and I want a great steak house to be expensive. I'm not going to Ponderosa for a $19 steak. I got the 8 oz. filet and 2 jumbo shrimp. Both were "oh my, this is awesome ". Our waitress Katia did a great job too of making it a special night. Today my daughter and I visited the Morristown location for lunch. It was a great experience from the greeter who seated us and made small talk to welcome us. Our waiter was next level up to preparing us for a great meal. My daughter had the steak burger with truffle fries. I ordered the petite filet migon medium well and asparagus. My steak was a little on the dry side and not to my liking. The waiter removed it and brought over a menu to select something else. I chose the 8oz NY Sirloin cut medium well. The manager even came over to our table while we waited and was very polite and kind and it lifted the slightly uncomfortable feeling having to send back a $50 steak but if I am spending like that I want what I want. Went here for dinner with my parents and sister on a week night. Was very full and people seemed to be having a good time! The vibe was comfort and upscale. Definitely dress up a bit for this place. Was confused by all the apples in the entryway. Popover bread: oh my this was unreal good. So good that I'm now looking into popover recipes to try and replicate at home. We also asked for an extra to share later so we loved it so much. Works well with the soft salted butter to provide. Shrimp scampi: yum! Three LARGE fried shrimp with a buttery & citrusy sauce. Cool innovative way to turn shrimp scampi into an app. Was the favorite of my sister and dad. Thick-cut bacon: this. Get this or you'll be sorry. The cut of the bacon is THICC and the maple glaze cuts the fatty and salt goodness with the perfect amount of sweet and smoke. I could honestly eat an entire meal of just this (sorry, heart). Chopped salad: this was good, although the tongs they gave us and side of the chop made it hard for me to pick up the salad and put on my plate haha. Lots of veggies. Felt like a nice, fresh, healthy start to the meal. Arugula salad: I really liked this! The candied walnuts worked so well with the sharp and creamy blue cheese. And the apples were a great addition as well to give some brightness. Cowboy steak: incredible. Plenty of flavor, perfectly cooked, lots of meat. The peppercorn crust really added a lot to this as well. Mac & cheese: delicious. Would definitely recommend getting. Maybe next time I'll try it with an add-in. Just wish the add-ins weren't so expensive (base is $9 and cheapest one with an "add-in" was $22). Brussels sprouts: Absolutely delicious. Great mix of sweet and heat. However, the menu we had didn't say they were spicy so one person at my table who can't take spice was disappointed. Corn creme brulee: definitely an interesting dish. Personally, I thought it tasted good but might been happier without the sugar crust. Especially since it was a side and not a dessert. But it's definitely unique and worth trying. Heads up- it had some jalapeños in there in case you can't do spicy. Overall, this was an excellent meal. Had an AMAZING dinner at Roots during the busy holiday week with my family. Everything was fantastic. We did family-style apps and sides, and each got our own entree. The scallops were delicious, but if you are looking for something more hearty I would suggest the NY strip steak (not pictured, but truly incredible w some roasted garlic on top). We spent over 2 hours there and never felt rushed by any of the staff. I also especially liked the fresh-out-of-the-oven popover rolls before the meal. One tip: if you don't like spicy food, be sure to ask if there is anything spicy in each dish you order. I then had a wedge salad, which was amazing with large pieces of bacon and tomato and real blue cheese dressing. For entrées, we had the salmon and the Steak combo with shrimp. The salmon was good but almost overcooked so it was just a tad dry. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, tender and easy to cut. The flavor was good and the sauce on the shrimp was really good. We also had brussels sprouts and a loaded baked potato. Both were absolutely delicious and well prepared. Overall, this steakhouse had a great ambience and a cool vibe. The property was kept very clean and everyone we encountered was nice. The manager even stopped by the table check on us and see if we're OK. Went to Roots again twice in the last 2 weeks. Once just my wife and I and last week with my parents and brother. As usual, excellent. The Service was outstanding both at the bar and at our table. The food delicious and cooked to order with great attention to detail. The restaurant is well maintained, bathrooms clean and orderly, and the busy crowd handled well by the staff. They are always friendly, and this restaurant is worth the price of the menu items. I will be back soon. When you go, get the Wagu dumplings and the tuna tartar. Roots is a restaurant that I've had bookmarked for quite a while. It's a high end steakhouse and I wanted to compare it with others in the area. Last night my wife and I had the opportunity to dine there, along with another couple. After, we all agreed that while it was good, there are others in the area which are better. My wife and I started out by splitting a half dozen oysters. They were fine, but I've had better and they didn't serve horseradish with them. We all naturally ordered steaks for our entrees, along with a few sides. The 12 oz filet was good. Sides of creamed spinach and mushrooms were tasty, but small. I had Bernaise sauce with the steak and there's an extra charge for it which I thought was weird at a place like this. The restaurant is located in the heart of Morristown. The decor is very nice, the dark, richness of a steakhouse. The service was excellent, our server very attentive. The garage next door is very convenient. All in all, the meal was fine, but I'd go to one of the other restaurants of this type in the area before I'd come back here. read more

I ordered the Fillet 12oz asked for it Medium Plus and was ask you want that well done... for a Steak Restaurant personal not knowing the term Medium Plus I was shocked... I eat at the best of the best always... The steak did arrive cooked well and was rested... quality was great and the pricing was exceptionally good,, I normally pay $90+ for a steak like this. The only comment I would make is the mashed potatoes/ whipped potatoes were a little wet and sloppy... but that was ok The desert was the roots warm butter cake with ice cream and compot...
