    Fried Chix 2.0

My girlfriend and I visited South+Pine in Morristown for her birthday lunch on a Saturday afternoon. While we were excited to try the place based on its glowing reviews, our experience turned out to be a bit uneven. Parking was a hassle, there's no dedicated lot, so we had to find street parking, which was metered and tough to come by on a weekend. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. and found the place nearly empty, with only one other table of diners inside. The space itself was cozy with a rustic charm, highlighted by unique wall decor made of old doors pieced together creatively. It had a quiet, relaxed vibe. We started off with drinks, the toasted coconut latte and the vanilla bourbon latte. Both were delicious, not overly sweet, and offered a nice balance of flavor and coffee. However, by the end of the drinks, the syrup had settled at the bottom, making the last few sips overly sweet, so I didn't finish mine completely. For an appetizer, we shared the spicy lamb meatballs served over Greek yogurt and cucumber relish. They were flavorful, though definitely not spicy despite the name--barely a 1 out of 10 on the spice scale. For our entrees, I had the short rib and winter veggie hash with poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise, which was pretty good in terms of taste, but I was disappointed by how little short rib was in the dish, it leaned heavily vegetarian. My girlfriend ordered the Fried Chix 2.0 (chicken and waffles), and unfortunately, it was a major letdown. The chicken was bland and lacked seasoning, and even the waffles didn't impress, which was especially disappointing since she's a big waffle fan and didn't even finish it. She said it was bland and chewy. Probably an over mixed batter. We also got a side of Polenta fries, made out of corn meal. These were pretty good, crunchy outer shell with a mushy seasoned corn meal on the inside. Service started out strong with a kind and attentive waitress who greeted us and brought our drinks. However, the second server who took our food order was less pleasant, her demeanor was curt and a bit rushed, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. At one point, she even pressured my girlfriend to order quickly, and I had to ask her to come back in a few minutes. Meanwhile, we could see some staff casually chatting at another table, which didn't make the rushed vibe feel very justified. We decided to skip dessert and try another spot down the street instead. Overall, South+Pine had some highs, like the lattes and cozy atmosphere, but also several lows, particularly with the entrees and service. I suspect the rave reviews are more reflective of their dinner menu, which we didn't get to try. I might consider coming back in the future for dinner, but as far as this birthday lunch went, it was just okay.

Joined for a brunch before a performance next door and loved it. Service is a little slow but friendly. It always an energetic space and highly recommend their brunch.

S&P is always great. Some things are fantastic, some things are pretty good. I never have had a bad meal. Just tried the polenta fries and breakfast burrito recently for a brunch. The fries were good, but extremely HOT when you bite into them - I think if they were cut in half/thinner they would be more enjoyable. The burrito was a masterpiece. Loved the crunchy and crispy hash browns in there. It was so lovely to sit outside on a weekend morning. Just be prepared to pay those Morristown prices. Comparable to NYC or Hoboken.

Came here last week for an impromptu date night. It was a warm night so we sat outside even though there was a slight chance of rain (we did get a quick passing shower but stayed dry under their new pergolas!). I ordered the Halibut (pictured) and my fiancé got the swordfish, both were delicious. Portion sizes weren't huge but we didn't leave hungry either. Would definitely go back to try more items.

Loud music blasting. Phones continuously going off and no one answering. Employees were standing behind partisan talking. All that before I even ordered. I ordered an $18. BLT. which if fine if it was piled high. Not what I was served. The bread came toasted, very greasy and cold. The bacon was cold too, only 2 thin strips. The sandwich looked like it should be on a child's menu. Very disappointing with the sandwich and service.

I went to South and Pine for an early lunch with 3 others. We were seated quickly and the menu is small which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The menu feels like it's trying to appeal to a younger generation with an unnecessary abbreviated item same. I think most people would get it eventually, but my step mom had to ask the waitress to explain a lot of the times because she just didn't get them. The chix sandie wasn't abundantly clear it was a chicken sandwich and I ordered the chix 2.0 and it was also something not very clear for the jump vs just calling it chicken and waffles. The staff was not unfriendly. They brought our stuff and got our original drinks. Never checked on refills. Two staff members come to our table one of them was indifferent the other seemed annoyed by us. It wasn't like they were busy and there was maybe 2 other table there on a Wednesday late morning. The food which arguably is the most important part was aox bag. The chicken was really good, the crust was really good on it to. I was disappointed it didn't say it was bone in. I would have ordered it if I knew it was bone in. This goes back to the menu not having either enough info or clear info. The waffles were also very taste. Perfect crisp to them as well. The other problem was portion size. For 22 bucks I felt like it could have gotten a whole waffle and either 2 bigger pics of chicken or a 3rd piece. My one chicken piece had about as much meat as a chicken wing. It just didn't feel like a great value but the resturant is expensive a burger is 25. So it's on par with the prices here. Arguably the hanger steak at 28 is the best price. All in all I don't think I would come back there unless someone else really wanted to go. There are a lot of food options around in mlMorristown and I this place had a mix of things that just wouldn't make it my first few choices when going out.

Stopped in for brunch, and the food was excellent. I definitely recommend the burger. The drinks were delicious and rich in flavor.

First time visiting after not being able to get in previously due to a long wait. I was really looking forward to finally get to try brunch here. The ambience and decor is very welcoming and draws you in for the brunch setting. The meals we ordered were fine, yet unfortunately nothing memorable. This wasn't a bad experience, but it left us wanting much more. Again, this isn't a bad review: it's just worth saying it wasn't my favorite brunch experience.

This is a decent spot. We dined here with another couple on a busy Saturday night. It's a small space but well designed with mostly attentive service. For me, the standouts were the appetizers. We shared the chicken lollipops and pork belly. The chicken was so crispy and flavorful! We tried the arctic char and short ribs as entrees. Both were good but I wouldn't say exceptional or standout. I did thoroughly enjoy the grits that came with the short ribs. We also all split the earl grey tea tiramisu. It sounded interesting and innovative but missed the spot for us! It really did not feel like a tiramisu. I think I would have been more into it if it was called something else! It was tasty but unexpected given the name.

Wonderful food and service, fantastic before a show at MPAC. Service was very attentive, salmon was wonderful. Just beware of the $36 cocktail!!

He wanted a great burger and loved his. Came with large portion of fries. 2 ordered salmon which was cooked well, but lacking flavor. Convenient location... did not order dessert. I realize I probably should write several reviews, but since I ate here five times (two dinners and…read morethree breakfasts) across a four-night stay, I'm just writing once. First, overall I'd say the food was very good on all five visits. The first two nights, I had dinner here. On the first night, I sat at the bar and enjoyed a bowl of the French onion soup and the halibut. The soup wasn't huge for $12, but it tasted good, and the halibut was quite flavorful. I didn't realize at the time, but they add in an 18% gratuity, so tip extra at your own risk. On the second night, I ate at a table with two coworkers. I had the chicken paillard, which was a large portion and also very good. Service was strong at both the bar and table on consecutive nights. For the three breakfasts, I pretty much had the same thing every day...an omelette with a side of fruit. It also came with potatoes, but it would've been nice if it came with toast or something similar without needing to pay extra. Again, food was good. Service the first day was fine. The next two days, the older gentleman providing service couldn't have cared less. I (and others) would show up at 6:30, when they opened, but nobody would be there. We'd sit ourselves and then wait. Eventually he'd show up. It was difficult getting coffee too, as both days, my cup sat empty for a long time until I'd eventually flag him down. Everything was on his time. I would've given him little/no tip...if the 18% wasn't already added in. The rest of the restaurant...food and service...gets a 5. This guy gets a 1. I probably should've given this a 3, but it didn't seem fair to everything/everyone else.
