First of all, I walked in the place and it had a horrible musty, moldy smell, this was my 2nd visit. I haven't been there in a very long time because of the smell. They updated, however, it still had that stink. I ordered a "steak burger", it was a frozen patty. Not a good burger that you would expect from a tavern/type restaurant, it was disgusting with chunks of nerve in it. Very disappointed, it cost me $20 + for a frozen burger and fries with a small spoonful of cole slaw. I won't do it ever again. Go to Prospect Tavern and enjoy a real burger! read more

We decided to stay close to home for dinner on Sunday evening. Burgers were a craving, and noticed they had an option for gorgonzola cheese - so that's what I ordered. My partner ordered the steak burger as well, with cheddar cheese. His was medium, mine was well done. Burgers were very good! Temps were correct and plenty of gorgonzola! Fries could have been crispier, and hotter. Cole slaw was decent. We were happy with our food, and decided we'd definitely return. Then, we received our check. The total was correct, but it was only if we paid cash. Credit added another 3.25% to the total. We certainly understand that this is becoming a more frequent occurrence, but you can't just ignore the law and charge whatever you want. There was NO indication anywhere we could see warning of the credit card surcharge! I even took photos of the menu - thinking we may have missed it - but as you can see from the photos, there was no indication. On the way out, we even checked the front entrance - no signs. Met family members here for an early holiday dinner. We met at 5 and got a table for 6 with a wheelchair as well. Food was a 3 if you didn't know what to order but get the burger or the meatloaf and you are good. Also apps are 1/2 price and drinks are discounted $1.50 (not great but ok). We've been coming here for over 30 years! The food is consistently good and the staff is always friendly. They have a great outdoor area in the summer that's quiet and even has a TV to watch sporting events. They took over the store next door so CAC is currently expanding. Charley's Aunt is definitely a Chatham staple and the best place to come grab a drink in town. They have a lovely back patio and now they've built a cool outdoor area in the front. If you like noise come here. Plently of loud piercing noise from people. Great for loud sports fans, kids and those with a little too much alcohol. Small size and lack of acoustics provide all the noise you need to have a great experience. Forget the food. While it's not bad, it doesn't hold a candle to all the noise you'll get here. Off the main corner so less people walking by. Plenty of parking. One of the few places in Chatham with late dining hours. They did a nice job with the outdoor seating, socially distanced tables and all servers wearing masks. They even have two TVs outside so you can watch the game while eating. Service was quick. The Shrimp croquettes in scampi were outrageous! Great flavor, great sauce and nice hot, fresh bread served with it. The bacon cheeseburger was excellent as well. The bun was very average and the mass produced cole slaw left a lot to be desired but everything else was spot on!!! Try making home made cole slaw and you would get a 5 star from me. Charley's Aunt is a classic Chatham spot. Great for both lunch and dinner. I recommend going to watch a sports game and grabbing a bite to eat. They have outdoor seating (with an outdoor TV!) which makes sports watching in the spring, summer, and fall, extra fun. A great spot for the community- I always see people I know here. Family-run by the greatest, sweetest, generous family. I love it here! They also host a hot dog eating competition, which is great fun for the whole community. read more

I am a 73 year old woman with a disability. I have a service dog. We went into this second rate bar for lunch. The owner very rudely and sarcastically told us to leave. I don't much care for steak fries and that's what they have at Charley's, they were just ok. Onion rings were pretty good but hit our table just warmish-hot instead of smoking-hot, frustrating. My fish sandwich was piled with fresh herbs lettuce tomato but like those rings the fried filet had cooled off. Service was friendly but slow to refill beer & water. Vegetarian rating: 2 stars. Appetizers zucchini fritti, fried mozzarella, grilled mushroom; half a dozen salads; the solitary veg entree I found was pasta primavera in cream sauce. This place is a must try! We decided to try it Sunday night, and as we arrived, it was a pleasantly busy spot. There are multiple areas of the restaurant, even though you cannot see them all from the outside.! This place is the best! It's a little spot located on a side street in the adorable town of Chatham, so it's easy to miss but definitely do NOT pass it by! It's also only about 5 minutes from the Short Hills Mall if you're hungry and need a cocktail after a day of shopping. The food, service, and ambiance are all great. The apps, burgers, sandwiches, and salads are all so yummy. Some of my favorites are the clam strips, potato skins, harvest salad, and the grilled turkey and Swiss. All the burgers are perfectly made and come with crispy steak fries. They even do half price apps during Happy Hour. It's definitely an "everyone knows your name" type place. The staff was super pleasant and welcoming. The food was great and the service was great.
