Ruth's Chris may be a chain but in our experience it's been a consistent and solid one. This location is tucked inside the lobby of the Hilton Parsippany - look for the Hilton signage and parking lot. We made a reservation and enjoyed a family holiday dinner for 5 of us. The interior feels clean and modern, and was festively decorated for the holidays! We started with their special holiday cocktails and a few starters to share including the calamari, veal osso buco ravioli, and wedge salad. Most of our crew ordered steaks - the obvious choice - and the portions are substantial. I ordered the Garlic Crusted Sea Bass and recommend it. We all cleaned our plates. It was raining and I was in the hotel that's attached. I ordered the fix prix dinner. Upgraded to the rib eye and added the scalloped potatoes. Everything was very good. The bartender Andrea was excellent. They have some very inventive cocktails. I couldn't finish everything that came with dinner. The steak was very good. The scalloped potatoes were tasty. The French onion soup was cheese heavy, some may like it that way. The spinach was meh. The meal came with dessert which was a mini cheesecake. Very nice with some fruit. Went for a private event and instantly our server did not feel warm and welcoming. She took our drink orders while we waited for the full party to arrive; and each time she left it was in increments of 30 minutes so dinner took 5 hours. Drinks were fine and bread service was fine. Finally our food arrived and half of the table's food wasn't hot. The inside of my scallops were cold, but the plate was warned to be, "scorching," and advised to not touch. I told the server and she took my plate and one of the managers came out and apologized and comp'd my meal. I really appreciated this, but was disappointed in the lack of urgency in our server. Her pace stayed the same and it seemed like any time we needed something she was doing us a favor. Towards the end some guests wanted a pen to mark off on the check and they kept asking for a pen and she came back and sternly told them, "I only give pens out once I ring up the transaction." Originally had reservations for Keen's Steakhouse in NYC but had to cancel last minute due to the snow storm. So we decided to do an earlier dinner local. I've never been to a Ruth Chris - don't do chains and normally only do Keen's and Peter Luger's for my steak fix. Pleasantly surprised. Steak and sides were pretty good for a chain. Beef quality not the same as a Peter Luger's or Keen's but still very enjoyable. No complaints about the food. Service was very friendly. Decor was very chain-like and lacking character. The big downside were the cocktails. The Martinis and Manhattans were shaken, not stirred. The Old Fashioned were diluted. We had to point this out multiple times to our server, who tried to make things right. Please hire a competent bartender. Had to knock off a star. read more

To level set my review --the more expensive the restaurant, the more critical I tend to be. So when dining at a steakhouse, especially one with a reputation like Ruth's Chris, I'm on high alert. Our party of three visited the Parsippany, NJ location to celebrate my wife's birthday. It's been a while since we've splurged on a dinner like this, but it was a special occasion and well worth it. We were seated immediately, and the host reassured us--no birthday songs (thankfully). Instead, they subtly decorated the table with birthday confetti--a thoughtful touch that immediately eased any nerves my wife might've had. The $55 three-course menu is a great deal if it includes what you're craving--and for two of us, it absolutely did. The French onion soup was rich and flavorful, and our steaks were perfectly cooked. For dessert, we tried the bread pudding, crème brûlée, and chocolate sin cake--all excellent, with the bread pudding being the standout for me. What really impressed us was how willingly and enthusiastically the staff accommodated a small request to modify one of the dishes. No attitude, no hesitation--just genuine hospitality. But what truly elevated the evening from "great" to "exceptional" was the service.Hillary and Peter were an absolute dream team. Well what a disappointment! Went there with 12 people. Service and personnel I will give a 5. The staff are exceptional, however the food was extremely disappointing. We go out to dinner with the same group every Christmas Eve and this was by far the worst. We have had to switch between here and another place the last 3 years due to scheduling and we were looking forward to returning here. 9 different steaks 9 different cooking disasters. Burnt not seared on the outside most like shoe leather on the inside even though all nine asked for medium cooking. The sea bass was good. The chicken was tasty but usually had been boneless and is no longer. Drinks were very hit or miss. To pay that kind of money. You can figure it out for yourself for 12 people and to have probably the worst overcooked steak ever. We will not be back. So sad because we liked coming here. read more

Chas and I were able to meet up at this Ruth's Chris location in Parsippany, New Jersey last week. This was not his first time visiting a Ruth's Chris but it was my first time. I was cautiously optimistic. I will start by saying that I have had a lot of great steaks in a lot of great steakhouses around the country...but oftentimes find I can make one just as good at home. We started with some adult beverages. Chas decided to get an Old Fashioned so I figured I'd get a Manhattan to check them against each other. I am normally a bigger fan of an Old Fashioned but this Manhattan was definitely better. Pro Tip - If you prefer an Old Fashioned, the bar inside the hotel just past the restaurant made a good one. I personally did not order any appetizers but I did try a couple from around the table. Chas got the Ruth's chopped salad and Val got the Lobster Bisque. The salad was unique and looks like it was built inside a ring. The flavors were good, nothing insane, but good. The Lobster Bisque was velvety and had a solid lobster flavor. I personally would not pay the cost for these items, but that's not to say they were bad in any way at all. Samantha and I split the Porterhouse for Two and for the table we had fried potatoes and grilled asparagus. The steak was cooked exactly to medium rare as requested and as expected from this company, was covered in butter. Great flavor to the steak, you can absolutely tell that it is a quality sourced piece of meat. The grilled asparagus was pretty standard honestly. It was good, but nothing I'd spend much time elaborating on. I then had a "Ruth's Coffee" for dessert. This had - Frangelico, Bailey's Irish cream, brandy, fresh brewed coffee, whipped cream, and drizzled chocolate. This was similar to the "Cappuccino Bern's Steakhouse" from Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, Florida. Very good drink, I'd definitely order that again. You pay for your meal here, that's for sure. We visited Ruth Chris Steakhouse for Thanksgiving and were extremely disappointed at how mediocre the food was at the huge price point. The calamari which was recommended to our table was oily and falling apart, a dull blend of cheap sweet and sour sauce and fried calamari separating at each bite. Each of our entrees were flavorless, especially my sea bass, was shockingly unseasoned and bland that for $40 I expected at least some salt and pepper and satisfaction. The only dish I found my self happy at was the pumpkin cheesecake which was frozen and basic. Service was normal. Ambiance fine, closeness to other tables but fine. I went to Ruth's Chris in Parsippany for a friend's wedding dinner. The entrance is inside the Hilton hotel lobby, and the ~90 person party were in a private room. The menu included a wine pairing with the appetizers (veal ravioli and goat cheese and artichoke dip), caesar salad, choice of an entree with two family style sides (mashed potatoes and broccoli), and choice of a dessert (cheesecake or chocolate sin cake). The highlight of the night was the service- the 4 wines along with each course were timed out well, and shout out to Hugo for the extra bread refills for our table (the bread was so good!). As for the food, my 11oz filet mignon was more like medium rare than medium, though my friend next to me had a perfect medium, and I preferred the cheesecake over the chocolate sin cake. I was there on a business trip with a colleague, and we were feeling a bit peckish after a long day of driving. We needed something quick and easy, before crashing for the night, and this place was right at the entrance of the hotel. The decor is definitely dated. We were taken back to the 90s. At first the waiter was welcoming, but eventually, as it doomed on her that she would probably not make a fortune with us, became a little curt. First of all, I strongly resent being made feel cheap when I don't order a full meal - I skipped the starters and the wine - and second, your job is to at least be graceful. If you can't muster a smile, I am sure there are other jobs out there that don't involve dealing with the public. On top of all that, the food was good - nothing extraordinary - but it was absolutely overpriced. Now I totally understand that most people are not vegetarians and here is one in a STEAK house but sometimes where there is a group of people you end up where you don't belong... in a steak house. We called ahead to make sure there would be something for me to eat and we were assured I could be accommodated. They had a very special tiny cardboard paper that was the "vegetarian" menu but all it was were the sides slapped on a piece of paper with a note to remember to ask for the item without bacon. It was then recommend to me by the establishment to choose the broccoli "steaks" that are sliced and oven roasted so I took this recommendation and ordered it along with a side of mashed potatoes that were never actually brought to me. But on to the broccoli. What the sliced broccoli steaks are is an undercooked broccoli crown picked up possibly at shop rite and then slapped on a plate. It was an unseasoned afterthought. Yes a huge broccoli head was presented to me as my meal. It had some type of crumbs on the plate along with some red peppers that must have been from a jar and were not good or appealing. It was absolutely stunning to me that this unseasoned, undercooked giant head of broccoli was presented to me as my dinner. Bland gross and basically inedible. I did have some of my friend's mashed potato's since mine were never delivered, but that's ok I was so unimpressed by them no loss. This is literally one of the worst dinners I have ever had and yes you can criticize me for being a vegetarian, but I eat at the longhorn on a regular basis and the food there that I can find is actually quite good. I walked in and the hostess walked me to the private room and there was about 11 of us. Our waitress was cool, I forgot her name though. We all ordered appetizers and meals. For myself I got the crab cake appetizer with a side of mashed potatoes. While I waited for that I had their bread which wasn't so good. I also tried the bbq shrimp appetizer and that was pretty good, just didn't taste like bbq. My crab cakes came out in a sizzling hot plate along with a big serving of mashed potatoes. This was more than enough for me. The crab cakes were very good and the mashed potatoes were good as well. The girls enjoyed their meals. The bill was a little over $40 for me. Haven't been here to this location in over 25 years probably. It sits next to a Hilton off RT10 just past Capital Grille. I figured since it was older and Capital Grille seems to get a ton of business that it might be very quiet especially on a Sunday. I was very wrong. It looked great inside, the ambiance is perfect and didn't seem overly loud despite it being very busy. Met my buddy and he had a tomahawk while I ordered an 11oz filet and a separate lobster tail. Everything was perfect from the service to the quality of the food. The hot plate and the flavor of their ovens shows in their steaks. She explained the menu since we hadn't eaten here before. We started with the NOLA mule and the rocks Rita. Both delicious! We had the calamari and Caesar salad to start. My boyfriend got the cowboy ribeye, rare, Oscar style and I got the crab cakes. We split the asparagus and lobster Mac. My only complaint is the crab cakes needed a sauce. They were dry. I was using the hollandaise that came with the asparagus to make them a little more appealing. All in all, a great NYE dinner. We were escorted to our private table in the back, although I'd say the table next to us was definitely not* 6 ft away, more like 5ft or so. Point is, they had obviously at least made efforts to sit us guests as far away from each other as possible. Half our party opted into the prix fixe menu. Those of us who did were stuffed, given they also got a small dessert at the end of the meal. I did not and I was still bursting at the seams. Now that I've been to a number of steakhouses, I can say Ruth's Chris is a solid, consistent contender although I wouldn't say its my favorite pick. Again, I'm not exactly foaming at the mouth for steak every night, so I'm not the go-to person to judge. I'd say the difference in the steak between the restaurants I've been to is negligible. Everything was amazing from appetizers to entrees to desserts. Had the calamari, ribeye with creamed spinach and au gratin, and cheesecake to finish. My party did also order the lobster mac and cheese but it tasted odd. It had a bitter taste to it. My waiter took care of things to let management know and they took that off the bill. Maybe it was just mine as I saw other tables order the mac and cheese as well and it seemed to be fine with no complaints. My server was amazing. Great at recommending the different steaks and sides and how much to order for our party. I would come back just for him to serve me again as he was funny and made everyone smile. Ambiance is a typical steakhouse. The only thing to critique is that I don't believe whoever was setting my party's table was really paying attention. For a table for 4, there were two sets of salt and pepper shakers, 5 water glasses and missing napkins. Not sure if other servers were using this table as a table to pull and put things on. Normally we would go to the Ruth's Chris in Tarrytown which has set the bar for any and every other Ruth's Chris. Decided to come to the one in Parsippany as it was said to be a shorter distant drive. When we arrived we was informed there was a car show going on and Ruth's Chris was providing valet parking. Unfortunately, when we got to the valet we was told we had to park our own car in the distant parking lot. Once in we noticed a different environment than the one we were used to at Tarrytown. There was no dress code. People was wearing shorts, t-shirts, and hats whole there was a few like us in dress casual wear. Amy introduced herself and said she and Jairo would be working our table. Jairo never came close to our table. As a matter of fact, there was two other tables with people of color in the same area and Jairo never attended either one. Amy on the other hand, was pleasant, personable, and helpful. Ordered my normal Long Beach Ice Tea and as I figured the bar tender didn't know how to make it. Amy told me they had to look it up. After the second drink our entrees arrived. Food was just as we remembered. So this review is more about the experience and not the food. Subtracting one star because of the experience. read more

With a modest tip, I walked away with less than $25.00 damage, but wishing there were entrees I could have added for another $20.00 (maybe a hamburger patty with mushrooms?). Since RCSH does not open for lunch, they clearly do not need my hamburger business, but before I complain too much about it, we need to recall the, "Bad Old Days." Our servers were Stephanie, Thomas and Consuelo. Opening Act 1- Hot Bread and Amazing Drinks! A Ruby Red Greyhound and a Blueberry Mojito- Drinks to write home about or in this case "Yelp about!". 2nd Act- Appetizers! I've been to this Ruth's Chris 4 times now (including a Yelp event from years ago) and always have enjoyed a great meal. It's always nice to stop in the bar and enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The bar area is very dark and inviting. For dining, there are several sections of this restaurant. Service was good and we thoroughly enjoyed the seafood tower, NY strip and some sides. The strip had a nice char to it and I love how our plates were hot with butter and seasoning on them! I love the Ruth's coffee. I've never eaten in the restaurant itself, and someone told me that the food they serve at private events is different from what they serve in the restaurant. That would make sense to me because in all the times I've been there, I've never had more than a mediocre meal, at best! This time, my 8-oz filet was the quality of what I buy at ShopRite for $6.99 a pound! Staff was pleasant and service was okay, when there was service. Incredibly long gap between the salad and when the entrees were served, and again way too much time from entree to dessert. You always know what you are going to get with a Ruth's and that's a good thing. This location is in the hotel so go through the main entrance and hang a left. I went with the bone in NY strip this time. Great cut and perfectly cooked med rare the way I like it. My only issue is the serving plate is so hot that it continues to cook the meat and by the time I was getting through the steak was more medium.
