They called and asked for a substitution on one which I gave and tried to remind dressing on the side. That salad was left out of the order. I had been dying to try Roots for weeks,, it took for a power outage for me to finally get some of the most amazing bowl of healthy goodness I have had in a minute! My trusty food roadie (my kid) and I were trying to decide what to eat and waste some time in hopes our power would return and I suggested Roots. I created my own bowl of goodness. My bowl included kale, bulgur, chick peas, white beans, lime pickled onions, chicken, grilled sweet potatoes, lemon tahini dressing and roasted corn with a dash of spice. My son ordered the pesto chicken. He inhaled his, I shared mine with my daughter. We all agreed that Roots Natural Kitchen is insanely good!! It's crazy how something that's good for you can taste sooo good to you! You feel good about what you are eating and you don't hate eating it. It tastes freshly cooked and great vegetables. I've never been here but have twice been a beneficiary of an office catering order. My colleague raved at how easy they made ordering with packages you can select from based on number of people. And everyone raved over the taste and how healthy the food is. Even the die-hard carnivores loved the BBQ tofu. I am a big fan of Roots but today I was disappointed. I ordered two pesto Caesar bowls. I asked for no sriracha and watched them make my bowls to ensure that it didn't get out on. For some reason they needed to be remade so I did not see what was going on because I was asked to pay. What I got when I opened my bowls was disappointing. This is my go to fast food in Richmond, quick, efficient, delicious. I don't know how they make it so tasty, I've tried with kale, not quite the same. I have tried most of the preset bowls - only the ones with chicken. It's quite a bit of food all together, you won't be hungry and even if you finish it all like me in one sitting, you don't feel horrible. The sauces blend well, anything with avocado is just gravy. My personal favorite is El Jefe minus the pita chips and with pickled jalapenos - it's the perfect mix of tangy, spicy, sweet, and savory. When I told the server behind the counter, she informed me that they are "really cracking down on portions". I understand that, but this is more than just "cracking down". This is cutting the portion in half. To Roots' owners and managers - If you are going to cut the grill item portions in half, then you should charge less. Or keep the portions the same.
