I first became Takeo's client when he was cutting hair at another salon over 6 years ago. I'm so happy that he finally opened his salon! He's the only person to cut my hair since I met him six years ago. I have also had him do my hair for a wedding once. He has great suggestions on how to change up my thick, straight, some-what coarse hair- between thinning it out in the summer time, cutting it shorter, putting in more drastic layers, advising I curl the ends of my hair on occasion, etc. I also enjoy having my hair washed before the haircuts too. I've consistently gotten haircuts with Nana at Room Salon for 2 years now and every morning I wake up totally satisfied with my hair (I just add some natural oils, no styling needed), even months after the cut. In fact, the 3-month period between getting a haircut from elsewhere while traveling and going back to Nana to fix it was a miserable time for me. Although it's a relatively simple haircut (long, wavy layers), Nana always takes her time to carefully go through each part and sometimes trim strand by strand (despite my massive amount of hair) for added precision. She'd check how certain parts of the hair fall, make recommendations, and ask if I'm okay with it before she proceeds. A good haircut would compliment your hair texture, and Nana knows exactly how to bring out my soft waves. I just cannot find that level of care and conscientiousness anywhere else, and it's totally worth the price ($70 + tips). Best salon in the area hands down. Room is a small, chic and affordable (for the area, some other salons haircuts start at $150 and up) salon that gave me the best bangs since I first got them. They are open till 8pm on weekdays which is great for someone like myself who doesn't get off work sometimes until 7pm. You make appoints via their email which I found super easy to do and they will send you a reminder day of. Their bangs trims are $20 and my stylist perfectly trimmed and shaped my bangs in ten minutes flat! I won't be going anywhere else as long as I'm in New York, and you shouldn't either. read more

I had the last appointment of the night so it was just me and Tomomi in the salon, so it was quiet and relaxing. Love the space, stylists and energy at Room Salon. I'm a singer, so it's very important how my hair looks on and off stage and Takeo ( the owner and head stylist) always does it perfectly! I have had a haircut at Room several times and often go to get my hair straightened the "Japanese way" and he always takes great care, and uses the best products to keep my hair healthy. I just had my first haircut here with Nana and I've never been more satisfied with a haircut! First thing about this place that I wanted to point out was that I was able to schedule a same-day appointment (it was a weekday). I haven't been there on a weekend, so I don't know how busy it gets, but I was the only client there when I went and it felt nice and private. Nana was a joy to converse with and I appreciated all the suggestions she made about my hair. I usually get the typical V-shaped haircut with layers and don't really know what to do with my hair beyond that, but she took the time to look through it, see how it falls, and ask if she could, for example, thin out my over-grown bangs because they looked bulky on the side of my face. Something else I wanted to note is that I have (well, had) really long hair and most places charge me another $10 because of the length. I think because I went with the dry-cut option, I didn't have to deal with that large extra charge. The art and decor is so tasteful that you almost never want to leave. I had my hair cut by Tomomi who I am happy to announce as my new go-to stylist. I had a pretty good experience here. Prices are super reasonable especially for highlights. $125 for full head is super. I went in on a day that was pouring rain and didn't want a blow dry but apparently it's mandatory plus they charge for it so that was kind of a bummer. I asked if I could skip it because It was pointless but to no luck. The space smells really good and I felt like I was in a very calm space with aromatherapy. My only minor disappointment was color (just bleach) didn't sit for long enough so it lifted very orange. I was going to the Caribbean the next day and knew the sun would lift it to the proper color which it did but if I went back I would def make sure it sat for longer.
