Confusing. Beautiful rooftop but all the tables are looking inland and then there is a spacious empty site looking over ocean. I hope that changes. Vegans beware. Your options will be extremely limited and what you get will be overpriced, uninventive, and bland. Super disappointed.

My husband and I sat ourselves at the bar, assuming it was first come first serve. The waitress was passive aggressive when she gave us our menus. Once we ordered, she proceeded to talk about my husband and I, using profanity to another waitress about how we just sat ourselves with no consideration to the others guests. There is one POS system and the waitresses seemed extremely flustered for a small dining space. The ambiance was simple and the food was average. Needs work Most of the issues have to do with timing: I ordered Ramen and my husband ordered rolls. We also ordered a cold appetizer, and two hazy beers. The beer was a clear Kirin- we pushed to the edge of the table and still had to stop the server to replace the beers. They were obviously not hazy. The ramen was served nearly thirty minutes before the rolls. I had finished eating before his order arrived. At this point the appetizer had not arrived and server mentioned the kitchen was just starting it, so we just cancelled it. Despite the fact we had been there an hour before the sushi arrived, the server had neglected to bring the soy sauce and dipping plates. We had to wait some more. Food quality: we ordered Top Seller and Russian roulette, and they were indistinguishable. One came with tempura prawn that was over cooked and not hot, (precooked?). The components were bland. There were other issues, and the server had to be grabbed to get his attention to fix the problems. We were given a tiny dab of wasabi, and finally got the attention of the busier to get more. So- 1.they need more help. 2. They need to improve timing 3. The staff needs additional table service training. We will try again, ordering more traditional sushi fare the next time. read more

The sushi I ordered was so small it was like for a kids meal. The avocado sushi roll costs me $8.00! When the waitress brought me the sushi I was like really for $8.00 to myself. Nori Sushi is way better. read more

That back deck space [currently empty / unused] looks like great place for a warm day cocktail / snack, but otherwise I'm not going to rush back. We arrived at -- get this -- 4:15 pm. We were *asked* if we wanted to sit outside. We said yes please. We were seated outside, given water and menus. Five minutes in, *hostess tells us that the space is reserved for a large party and please would you move inside? *[edited to add and render all crystalline-like: It was same hostess who ASKED us if we WANTED to sit outside? -- again, us: "yes, please, thank you!" -- to begin with. same hostess who seated us. and same who asked us to move five minutes in ... this was NOT a dropped communication sitch between two FOH personnel who didn't have their act together. SAME hostess.] That. Should. NEVER. Happen. I spent seven years in fine dining front of house. Asking guests YOU have seated? to MOVE?! Insultingly bad service. My spouse's sashimi was terrific -- truly. I mean that. The sushi about the place looked [and ours tasted] great -- hence the second star. My pork katsu however was both bone dry and bland [was it perhaps made ahead and reheated to order?]. And that was some beyond insulting stuff with the seating barely after 4pm. We were gone by 5:00 pm -- and guess what?! the outdoor table at which we'd first been seated and from which we got promptly shooed remained EMPTY. the. whole. time. Gaaaah ... Went for lunch on a perfect sunny day out on the terrace overlooking Old Town. Felt like we'd gotten on a plane and had lunch in San Diego for a couple of hours! We had lunch here during our brief stay in Eureka. Everything we ordered was excellent and the Service was prompt and friendly. The outdoor patio location is beautiful and well appointed. Food was all tasty, both cooked and sushi, and a cut above other Humboldt sushi spots. Especially the quality of the rice and freshness/size/prep of cuts for nigiri . Uni was a good texture and generous portion but a little bitter. But stoked that they have it! The kitchen was super behind - all food including miso soup and appetizers took over an hour to come out. That was a bummer.. hope they can figure it out as they continue. Our waiter was gracious, honest about the wait for food, and comped drinks. Decor and rooftop seating is simple and pleasant, good vibes. Great heaters outside. People came and went after we arrived got their food first and payed yet we were still waiting. We did not get our food until we said something at 8:50p, their excuse "we're busy". Epic fail. 50-60 classmates from EHS class of 1984 met at the rooftop August 2, 2024. The rooftop would not give us separate tickets . They Did not want to sell me two glasses of wine. This was a crowd of 50 that can easily spend $175 each for food and wine. Our party of four went to the Oyster Bar Cafe instead. The rooftop lost out on $3750 to $8750 for that night. My friend and I had a reservation for 7:30pm, which we were seated promptly but then ignored. Waters were brought to us, but 30 minutes went by and no one came to assist us. As someone who is a manager with their own business, the lack of basic courtesy is upsetting. I understand if they were understaffed, but given that this is a new restaurant, they should not have taken us back to a table if they could not service us. The service at Applebees is faster. After 30 minutes of being completely unaddressed, we decided to leave. We ran into the hostess in the lobby, and told her that we were here for 30 minutes and no one came to take our order so we were leaving. I'd wait a while and let them workout the bugs. - our party was served all at different times. I had time to eat and have my plate cleared when they were bringing out dishes for someone beside me. This made for an awkward and long meal - one person in our party didn't even get her dish. She received it in a to-go box when we got our check, so she didn't have time to sit and enjoy it. Still charged for it! - really expensive for the food offered. I think they pre-dress the salad, so lettuce was limp. Side salad was TINY for $7. Basic sushi was eh, and the good rolls were $18-24!! - our average check was $32 per person for lunch. I tried to stick to a budget and had one roll and a side salad (about $25). I left hungry. - check included an 18% Service fee, then still asked for a tip on top as if it was seperate from the fee (our check was for 5 people) - BRING A JACKET. Not all the tables are against the building, and it was a wind tunnel. Our napkins and chopsticks were flying everywhere, and we asked to move. - waitress seemed nice, but also seemed frazzled. Slow, unorganized, overpriced for what you get, and not suited for "restaurant seating". We went on a Thursday evening as a party of six. Two people got dinner from the kitchen and were served in a reasonable amount of time, but the other four that ordered sushi were all served at different times with the last sushi being served about 45 minutes after the first dinner plate was served. The staff was friendly at a minimum level, and the server even made a comment that they were "afraid of the cook". The seating inside is shoulder to shoulder with other people nearly bumping the table to walk past, while the outdoor seating is fine for good weather, but not for true Eureka weather let alone when it rains. Also, a basic sushi roll starts at $20 and only goes up from there, and items like the Pork Katsu is only pork and no rice like any other restaurant with a standard plate like this. Overall the food was flavorful, but would highly recommend people finding any other number of sushi places in the area before coming here. I would not go back a second time. read more

I wanted to have a nice dinner with my 10 year old daughter, so I went to Rooftop hoping for a different kind of experience, a seat with a nice view. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside since there were several empty tables. She strolled out to the roof and came back to say that there was nothing available but we could sit at a table inside, but then guided us to the bar instead. I was a bit irked but didn't complain although it was obvious that we were not being seen as a priority like people who were apparently out on dates. The food was okay, but the salmon sushi had a pretty strong odor and the spring rolls had an over cooked gelatinous center that wasn't really appealing. Spent about $80 between the two of us. saw some friends on the way out and had a short chat (about 2 minutes) when the same hostess proceeds to shoo us out of the restaurant, asking if we could take our conversation outside. Finally made it to Rooftop. Location definitely is top notch! I don't understand why anyone would sit inside in any weather. You can spy on everything but are tucked from people seeing you. I'm wierd like that I guess. Really cool waitress and staff. Went on a date, prefect vibe for that or just a work lunch. Decent prices. Just had some rolls but gotta come back and try the ramen. I'll do a different review for that. Had a queen of the ocean roll with lobster. I mean it's lobster so obviously it was delicious. Kind of strange presentation with the lobster shell awkwardly sitting on top of the roll but once you toss that it was fantastic. Other roll had fillets on it? Dates pick, IDK. Not my think but with some wasabi it's all good. They were out of the dragon ball desert unfortunately, looked amazing with chocolate ganache but we had some tofu vanilla thing that needed citrus or berries, something. Have been there before in the service was excellent. Went the afternoon of Father's Day and what a disaster. They didn't appear to be short staff but they certainly were. We watched three separate tables walk out because they hadn't even been spoken to in the entire time they were there. We were there a total of an hour and a half for just a couple of rolls. Multiple tables waited a long time for their food. Our favorite is the tuna tataki and it's supposed to be lightly seared. It came out fully cooked so it was basically tuna fish with sauce. Horrible experience. Rolls were mediocre and looks like they were rushed to be made. Our waitress was extremely apologetic for how terrible things were. But nothing was done to make things right. The overall vibe of everybody in the restaurant was of extreme dissatisfaction. I try to use their website contact to send a polite message to say the experience was not desirable but was hoping that things could be corrected as we want to patron again.
