Being a Vietnamese restaurant, I'm surprised they offer pad thai. I should've trusted my intuition to not order pad thai because unfortunately, it's not very good at all. Immediately it tastes drenched in soy sauce which is, believe it or not, NOT an ingredient in traditional pad thai. It also explains why the noodles are unusually dark brown in color rather than a light yellow or orange. It's a little lighter in the picture due to me adding lime juice. It's very salty and not enough sour, so I had to add my own lime juice to offset the saltiness. The meat is also pretty.. disgusting. It has chunks of chicken and dark meat instead of thin strips which is highly unusual for a pad thai dish and it's not good at all. Secondly, I got the tiger milk tea with boba and they completely forgot the boba! 70% of my drink is ice. I didn't realize until I got home. Maybe I'll try the pho next time, but I'd recommend skipping the pad thai completely. read more

We came for dinner on a Saturday evening and it was busy but we were able to get seated at a table quickly. We ordered the lemongrass chicken spring rolls, beef pho, and chicken pho. We got our food pretty quickly and all the items we ordered were good and the beef pho broth was up to par for my taste. I was thankful we found a pho spot this far up north while we were on our trip to the redwoods. There were a lot of college students here since it's near Humbolt State. The other tables ordered beers like Sapporo. Although for drinks we only got waters and a strawberry boba smoothy. The boba was just okay but I don't expect high quality boba at a pho place. We ordered banh mi's to-go for our road trip and those were decent as well. The setting is casual and it was cool that they had lots of windows on one side of the place, making it like a sun room area. By the time we were leaving, almost every table was taken at the place. They were a bit understaffed since it felt like there was one main person in the kitchen and one was taking all the orders and also the cashier. Service rushed us to order. I had the pho and the broth tasted watered down and was lukewarm. The amount of meat was less than what was expected. Fried egg rolls were crispy but too doughy. I called in to order and the receptionist hung up before I could give my name for the order. When I came my drink had boba in it. That's kinda weird because it was a honeydew smoothie but I just accepted it because I was in a rush. There was something diluted about their broth. It lacked flavors and spices, but I wonder if it's because the demographic here can only tolerate a certain flavor? I do not wish to be judgy about that, but I have half Indian so for me it was lacking and I feel bad to say it, but the average pho restaurant in San Diego has better broth than this place. My mom had a veggie broth and my sister and I both got beef types of pho. My meatballs were small and easy to eat which is nice because I still have braces on. They were busy in store and with pickup orders so I know they're doing good with business. They did make sure I had chopsticks, lime, sriracha and hoisin, so the customer service is not bad. They do care! I'm going someday they are able to see my review and not be shy of tapping into their true authentic flavors. I've been going here for a good while. They used to be very consistent- nothing glorious, but consistent. However, over the past year or maybe longer they hired a god awful woman at the front desk. Not only does she not understand English very well, she doesn't ever pay attention to what your saying... Which is key in taking someone's order... And did I forget to say the meals are great and fulfilling? I typically order the P10 meal, which is the Eye Round Steak and Meatball. Service: The waiter and waitresses are on point when it comes to service, to-go orders are available, as well as sit in. They do really well acting like a traditional waiter/waitress attending to customers, cleaning and making sure the tables are cleaned, as well as check on guests if they needed anything. Food is brought to the table for you, you do not need to go grab it yourself. Which is much different from many of this establishments that expects you to bus everything yourself... as well as pay extra tip for a non-service. If I were to bus everything myself... I wouldn't have wanted to tip people. Ambiance: Besides the ongoing debate and protests that has been going on that has people... tagging a lot of buildings and places, even on the college campus, the ambiance of the place does very well, the decor within the restaurant as well as lighting and music that fits the atmosphere. Last week I went here with a friend and very much enjoyed my stir fry with egg noodles and veggies. There was broccoli, carrots, celery, bok choy, baby corn, red peppers, onions--everything listed on the menu. I got there and they charged me $12 extra for the soup (The audacity!!?!?) I visited this restaurant for the first time and it had a comfortable dining area. The gentleman who served us was friendly. Their menu has a lot to offer and the prices aren't bad. The spring rolls were AMAZING! Their small bowl of beef soup for $3 was actually very yummy. I ordered the stir fry vegetable with beef. (Forgot to get pic of my food). My daughter ordered off of the kids menu and it was a large, noodle, chicken bowl. My husband had the Pad Thai and the portion was huge. All of the sauces are on the table. I like not having to bother someone for them. The food came out very fast and they were super busy with DoorDash orders, to go orders, and dining in orders. All of the food was VERY stove hot. The heart of the restaurant seemed to go away with the previous owners. I've gone a few times since they left and the service and food seem to be lackluster. My last order was missing a spring roll. And the Pad Thai was off. I can't explain it but it seemed like it's quality went down. My recent order, I ordered a Thai milk tea boba and a mango boba and got two mango bobas and another strawberry sake of sorts I mean, I guess it's a score, but I didn't get the drink I asked for. The spring rolls had no vibrance, not even a few carrot sticks.
