Go for the view, stay for the food. The patio has to be the best view of the harbor in town. Really sweet garden with native plants as well. Favorite dishes we tried: Crispy Salmon Skin salad, Humboldt combo, Old Town roll, Yuzu cheesecake. Staff was friendly, service was great. We had a really dinner with the family. read more

Finally! A sushi restaurant in our city that knows what a "Sashimi Salad" is!! I was absolutely delighted! This restaurant is still in its opening phase so not everything is dialed in .... Clearly. There were some not spectacular moments with our first visit Mother's Day. However, we are completely aware that it's still early and their service and order timing will get better. With that I loved the Sashimi Salad. Not the best one I've ever had. But it's the only one Himboldt so that's something. We ordered the Top Seller roll. Parts of it that were supposed to be warm, were not. It was an average roll. Hopefully they improve there. We also ordered the Naruto roll and it was fabulous! After making a reservation two days prior, we waited at the table for over 35 minutes for the server to ask us if we were "ready for anything". Horrible service for a Monday night/not a full house by any means-no one outside - it was too cold. When food came, it was not worth coming back for. Too bad, because the location is just what this community needs...but seriously subpar quality. No presentation awareness at all. Sloppy rolls that tasted bland. No soy sauce or plates for sharing the apps we ordered...just lacking on all levels. Don't bother with this spot. Wish there was a half star/no star rating to give. The so called "Top Seller Roll" was honestly the worst item I've ever tasted at a restaurant. Bland paste like texture. I didn't even want to ingest it. So gross. Don't waste your money-nothing was worth the price. You can buy way better sushi at the co-op. read more

We frequented this sushi restaurant twice in a couple days. The food was good. Our daughter(2) loved her California roll. We sat inside on the first trip and outside on the second. Both times the food and service were good. It was a little windy outside but that was the only downside. read more

Went on a very busy Friday night with a reservation. Building is quite nice with a great view, were seated inside so it was quite loud. Server was excellent, accommodated our requests, communicated well, and hustled all over working fast. Unfortunately, it appeared there were only two sushi chefs and the orders backed up fast, so it was a very long meal with long waits, that was the bummer. The food itself was tasty, nice salad, nice miso soup, incredible scallop appetizer, loved the lemon salmon sushi (had never had that before anywhere), the CA roll is made with real crab and was great, but the spicy sushi we had was very small and just ok. They were quick to bring tamari when we mentioned being gluten-free. Our server was great it was just slamming busy which was the biggest downside. read more

Ambiance is great, service doesn't match how upscale this place could be. Fun to take an early dinner when there's an event in Old Town. It gets windy up there, bring a jacket! The heaters on the patio help a lot. read more

Long wait seating time for 1:54pm. Restaurant located in Old town Eureka. Food was tasty, "Favorite" entree had 3 tempora, some type of Maki roll deep fried. Very good taste with hot sauce. Tofu in soy sauce w.green onion. I did not like texture or the taste. I think it was fish cake tofu. Soya Ramen was average. Not too salty. Service was average. Amazing view, great outdoor seating on a sunny day. Good service, friendly waitress (we were there for lunch). Reasonably priced drinks. Yum! We went in the first few weeks that it was open, and it was *packed* - the service was a bit chaotic, but we completely expected that, being a new restaurant and all. The food was fantastic. I got one of the nigiri + California roll combos and the quality of the fish was amazing. And the California roll was well made. My husband ordered the chicken katsu and promptly declared it one of the best he's had. The calamari appetizer was a bit on the small side, but the highlight of the whole meal was the Gaijin fries. Loved them, still think about them, will be ordering them every time we go. The meal ran about $100 after tip, but for a high-end rooftop restaurant, that was about what we expected. Absolutely LOVED it. This has quickly become a favorite spot of mine! Went for lunch and shared a couple of appetizers. It wasn't super busy so service was quick and the outdoor seating in the sun was delightful. Went back for dinner another night and it was delectable. The waitress informed us that wait times would be a bit long, however it was well worth the wait and hard to complain with a beautiful view and atmosphere. Everyone at the table enjoyed what they ordered and I was SO impressed with the hamachi poke roll! Amazing flavors, textures, and they even offer soy wrap for those seaweed-disliking people (like myself) :) all in all I'd absolutely come back here. They're in the "soft opening" phase as well so I think having grace on longer wait times is important. read more

Ate lunch here yesterday and it was an experience. The rooftop dining experience alone would have made the visit worthwhile, with scenic views of Old Town and the Madaket coming in to dock. The menu was extensive with options for the non-sushi lovers as well. I had the Dynamite Sushi Roll and, when paired with a couple of Kirins, felt both full and content. Service was efficient and the layout, especial the front and rear decks, was well thought out. This will be my new "go to" Old Town spot when friends and family visit! read more

The food & service is amazing, let alone the fact that you get to eat while looking out over downtown Eureka. I had no idea this place was here, it's truly hidden & tucked away, but so worth the trip. The shrimp tempura was phenomenal; especially the dipping sauce it came with. I literally drank the rest of it. They accommodated my large shepsky & our friend's corgi on their outdoor dining patio area which was fantastic since we were traveling, so 10000% dog friendly. We had a great late lunch here. Golden Salmon roll was a treat with its sliver of lemon on each slice. Hamachi Poke roll included a fun combination of fish. The pork ramen had a delicate, smoky broth. The unagi donburi and ahi poke bowls were filling, tasty and beautifully served in lacquered-style boxes with lids. Service was good and the rooftop table overlooking Old Town on a sunny afternoon was a real treat. Dishes cost a few dollars more than the other sushi places we frequent but it's a worthwhile splurge for the location. So nice to have a local place open all afternoon and till 9:30 pm! Note: Staff advised us to make dinner reservations 2-3 days in advance. read more

Arrived about 545 pm without a reservation, same day as start of the Kinetic Sculpture Race. The lobby was packed with about 8-10 people waiting to put their name in for a table. Meanwhile, a dark haired gal and a dark haired young man stood at the podium, discussing the night's reservations and using a whiteboard and marker to go over placement of said reservations for about 15 minutes before addressing anyone in the lobby. My husband finally asked the gal how long the wait would be and she said something to the effect of she was on her way out and she didn't know so we should ask the guy, but it was probably going to be a very long time. She then proceeded to study whatever was on the podium while the guy left and scurried around the restaurant with the whiteboard. He finally returned and they discussed the reservations SOME MORE and then a 3rd gal finally arrived and took my husbands name and phone number, stating it would be be 30-45 minutes before we could get seated. Within 5 minutes the original guy returned and began to address a group that arrived AFTER we did and offered to seat three of them at a 2-top. Thankfully my husband spoke up.... We were then seated outside. (This was less than 10 minutes after being told it would be a 30-45 min. wait) Everything went well after that seating mess; table service was fantastic and the food was delicious- we were out of there in about 1 hour. I'd have given 4-5 stars had we not had that seating issue in the beginning. Hopefully management is paying attention and works out those front end issues asap. read more

I had the Tekka Don and shared hamachi Kama with my son. The tekka don was simply exquisite. The tuna was fresh and beautifully cut -- the pieces looked like jewels. I love sushi and am usually disappointed with the quality of the fish unless I'm in Hawaii. In addition to the amazing tuna, the chef tucked in some seaweed salad, which was also great. The hamachi Kama was the best we ever had. It was perfectly cooked and so delicious. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality you get. I hosted a 60th birthday party here. We bought out the patio and had it all four hours. It was such a great experience. The food was fantastic. There were plenty of vegetarian options for those who were vegetarian. The waitress Kelly was fantastic!! She made sure the food kept coming and made sure we felt taken care of for all our needs. Rooftop is my new favorite sushi restaurant in Humboldt. There were negative reviews when they opened for slow service but they have that figured out. The ambiance inside is ok, it's a little cold and tables are close together but not a deal breaker. The fish is fresh, and the flavor combinations are superb! read more

if I can give no stars I would I went there with my partner took minutes just for water I got sat down and the people next to me got sat down and they got water plus their food and then they had other people join them and they got their food and their water before I even order. Then I finally got a beer that I wanted to order and we ordered my food and then minutes later I flagged the waitress down and I asked her if I could get my beer and she told out disrespectful and unprofessional oh, I'm busy that really made me mad then as people who came after me and my partner I see them get their food and their drinks as we're waiting for two sushi rolls and a soup. I definitely don't recommend eating here. The service sucks the waitress suck and I really wouldn't recommend anybody eating there. read more

Can't wait to go again..Ate outside on a 55 degree day in comfort with their excellent ceiling heaters above us. Made a reservation for 5 friends to sit outside. When arrived was told we had to sit inside. Ok, bummer but no big deal. Sat there for 20 minutes before someone even brought us water. After being there for 25 minutes without being able to order drinks or appetizers, we kindly asked if someone could take our drink order. Walked out 10 minutes later. Thirty five minutes without a waiter even coming to our table! I hope their services improves. I won't be going back. Friends and I have worked food service for years so we were very kind and patient but that's ridiculous. read more
