The funny thing is, Yelp's default picture of a building's silhouette is pretty darn close to the color of the building here. Except Fourth Street Liquor is just a little shack. But, its a little shack that contains everything that a financially challenged college student living in Arcata needs. Booze? Loads. Cigs? Tons. Energy drinks? Oh yeah. Food? Strangely enough yes, and when I used to eat here it was normally pretty good. Poorboy sandwiches and the "Super Bagel" with ham were my personal favorites. As far as Liquor stores go, this place is pretty strong. I recommend it if you're in the area.

Went into the humidor selected 3 $15 sticks looked around for a good bourbon to pair with them, then stepped up to the register to pay. At that point I asked if they had a public restroom, to which the clerk replied " is that why you drove over the curb, because you had to pee?" Neverminded I'd been in the store for more than 5 minutes, I was making a near $50 purchase, have spent hundreds if not a thousand previous dollars( I know he had no way of knowing this) in their store, had a dress shirt and tie on, only to be treated like a typical Humboldt tweaker. So sad that people are so jaded by the lowlife culture that exits in Eureka.

There was 2 guys standing behind the counter. The taller one was glaring at us pretty much the whole time. They watched us as we walked around the store which was fine. So beware and check the weather before going and dress accordingly. It's nice on sunny days but then you have to be mindful of the UV. Their plum sake is very good, smooth and light. I also got a hot tea but that was only hot for a moment out there, the sake definitely did more to keep us warm. Their ramen bowls are now my favorite in downtown, the pork is DELICIOUS, the broth could be a drink on its own and the marinated egg has a perfectly soft yolk; it's a very pretty dish. My favorite sushi is split between the Russian roulette and the ocean queen (I think that's its name).

Craftsmanship and attention to detail are central to Sushi and Japanese cuisine, none of which I could find in what I was served. We ordered: salmon lover roll, vegetable tempura, and chicken katsu. - salmon lover roll was not notable, bland, almost too sweet. It came with the smallest blob of wasabi and two slices of ginger (one which was very long for some reason). - vegetable tempura was serviceable, if you mess this up you get 0 stars. - chicken katsu is the star of this abysmal show though. I was served two cut up chicken katsu slices. The presentation was horrible. Loosely strewn about the plate over some cut up veg and a fork on the side of the plate. For an $18 chicken katsu entree, no rice is criminal. This entree comes with miso soup which was served in a small bowl half full. Service was slow, took them 40 min to get the food out and the tempura came after the roll. On a positive note they took our card quick, the atmosphere was cool and the bathrooms clean.
