My partner and I visted on Super Bowl Sunday. It was one of the few places that had seats open. They have two sides smoking and non-smoking being the smaller of the two. Customer service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive throughout the entire night. We order buffalo wings and the chicken tender basket. It was typical bar food and just okay. We ordered a bucket of beer and 4 shots. The shots definitely tasted like it had a shot of water in it. No kickback whatsoever! However, for $60, I'd say that's a great deal. read more

A friend and I came in early on a Friday before the rush/ crowd. They do still require masks upon entering and they have QR scan code menus. I was amazed with their wide selection of whiskeys!! They do whiskey Wednesdays where a glass is $5 and select $5 whiskeys on Saturday's. The waitress/ bartender was probably having a bad day because she was a little short with us at first and wasn't answering the questions we had... she eventually eased up and we finally enjoyed her company haha. Cozy, busy, well stocked, and open throughout the day. These are good features, but it doesn't mean anything if service is mediocre and the pours are measured. I went there around 5p on a weekday. I was greeted promptly. Surprisingly, there were a number of people at the bar already (apparently people like to drink early and often in Dallas). The bartender was nice-nasty. And her pour was measured and light (ownership would be proud). I would only go back to kill time or if there were no other choices. Three cheers for (local & on draft) beer! After driving past this place multiple times, my husband and I decided to check out this unassuming bar in a strip mall. If you can get past the odd-looking exterior, you're golden. Stepping through the oddly ornate door is like being transported through a magical wardrobe to a beer-centric Narnia. It's much better than what I was expected, but the longer we stayed, the weirder it got. It's still worth a visit if you like beer or whisky. The first thing I noticed upon entry was the faint smell of smoke. It's certainly not an overwhelming smell, but it's noticeable. Like when you enter a supposedly non-smoking hotel room that has clearly been smoked in. Ron's is supposedly non-smoking (via their website) but there is a connecting swinging door to the next door restaurant The Hub, which does allow smoking. So while you won't have anyone smoking in your face, you may leave the place with a faint smell of smoke in your clothes or hair. We were able to get used to to the smell pretty quickly, but it's definitely one of the reason the place doesn't get 5 stars. The place has an ever-so-slight divey feel, with menus that are very well-worn and could use replacing, but mostly featuring standard bar fare. We received two food menus, one was a glossy tri-fold from The Hub and the other was a paper inserted into a pad with no name on it at all, but with mostly the same items as The Hub. It was weird. They should consider eliminating one of the two. The Hub menu was more interesting and had more menu items, but it's always feels kind of weird to order food from another place. Speaking of weird, I found service to be a little odd. Our server was friendly and casual, which is exactly what I'd expect from a beer bar. She was dressed in a simple shirt from the bar and jeans. She knew the beers, and specifically, knew which beers they were out of on the spot. She was able to make recommendations and provided samples when needed. The bartender, on the other hand, was dressed like it was a dive bar, with short shorts, fishnets, and a shirt putting all her cleavage on display. She spent a lot of time chatting up the men at the bar (in favor of taking care of the drinks we were waiting on). Seems like there should be some consistency there, as two employees were providing two totally different experiences the day we were there. The draft beer selection was great. There was an excellent variety of styles, including plenty of standard types (blondes, IPAs, ryes, etc.) as well as more unique takes on those styles. I tried a passion fruit IPA, on draft, which was pretty good. We relaxed for a while and enjoyed a couple of beers and cheese fries. We were pleased with the service, beer selection, and food. I loved the decor with wood bar & wood tables, which makes it feel more like a classic beer bar to me. I feel like this place has a bit of an identity crisis, with the interesting music selection (90s pop, then later, country), the various menus serving mostly sports-bar fare, the flatscreens with sports, the amazing selection of whisky, the variety of draft beer available, and the service bartenders/servers provide . Is it a sports bar? A beer bar? A whisky bar? A dive bar? A version of a twin peaks? Seems to me they are trying to be all things to all people, and since I happen to be looking for a beer bar with a great draft selection and knowledgeable servers, it seemed to work out for me. Awesome dive-y bar in Addison! It's located in a strip mall and is very unassuming. However, you'll be treated to some great food and drinks once you're inside! My only gripe is that it smells like smoke inside - and I don't know why because smoking isn't allowed inside. I'm a big old fashioned fan and I heard they make an excellent old fashioned here, so I decided to try it. And it was definitely on point! One of the best I've had in Dallas! And the price was great at $8! I give it a 4/5!!! I ordered the cheese fries and added jalapeno and bacon to it. It was delicious! It wasn't greasy at all and the toppings were spread throughout and not just on top. I rate it a 4/5. For the entree, I got the pot roast. The brown gravy was hearty and had great flavor. The meat wasn't as tender as I wanted it to be, but good nonetheless. The grilled vegetables were nice and crunchy. I give it a 4/5. read more

I went his for lunch for the Cowboy Burger, from the site and Yelp I thought it be more of a restraunt but it's basically a bar that serves food. I got my burger to go and it was ready when I got that. It was big and they gave a lot of fries for 15 total. The burger was good and the fries were really good. Ron's is just a great neighborhood bar in a day when they tell you there's no such thing. A great selections of beers on tap, decent pub grub and bartenders who can talk about what's on tap. A few too many TV's for my taste, and the stereo is a bit loud, but they'll turn out down if you're having a meeting. The place is more than the sum of its parts and a great place to hang out. Quaint little place right next to The Hub. In fact there's a door which connects both so you don't have to go outside one place to get in to the other. The smell of newness and everything nice still lingers around the room. They have craft beers on tap which I've never seen before. Delicious place to eat late at night! It has a very nice atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Has LOTS of selections at the bar for alcohol (it definitely is a pub), but it was also family friendly if you just wanted to eat and bring the kids. They also have board games lying around if you wanted to play while eating (i.e. Apples to Apples, Jenga, etc.) My boyfriend and I got the Tomato Basil Shrimp Pasta and Blackened Chicken Pizza; Mmmm it was super good and filling. The service here is great too. The only downside though is that this place is not that big, and therefore not good for huge groups. There will most likely be very limited seating if you bring 5+ people. We will be back though for date night! Bought a Groupon to this place just to try it again. read more

My boyfriend took me to this place because I was craving for some wings. He was kind of bragging about this place since he came here with his brothers for some drinks. The interior was pretty nice and it was different from most bars. This is the place that you KNOW that the bartenders and waiters actually know their customers. This place wasn't as crowded as I imagined. I liked the glass display filled with old canned beers in it. It was interesting to see all the different kinds of beers. The wings were actually on the appetizer menu and they were HUGE. I like regular buffalo wings with blue cheese and it was delicious. I got full off of it, and left one for my boyfriend. They actually give you the entire wing, and not just the basic chicken wings that you'd find in buffalo wild wings, etc. My boyfriend ordered the buffalo burger and he found it delicious. Stopped by Ron's Place for a little happy hour celebration. It was early, so not may in the bar. We did not sample the food, but they have an extensive menu for snacks and typical bar food. The bar is clean and has a nice ambiance. We sat at the bar and struck up a conversation with Rudy, the bartender. Very friendly and attentive young man with a deep knowledge of whiskies. We really enjoyed speaking with him and discussing various makes. They do an exact measured pour, so expect it to look smaller than some at other places. However, the prices seemed reasonable, so we were fine with it. The only issue we had with Ron's was the smell. It smells of smoke even though it is a non-smoking bar. The darts and billiards place next door, which the owner of Ron's also owns apparently, allows smoking. There is a door which connects the two I think or it comes through the wall or ventilation system. Unfortunately, it was enough that would make us hesitate a bunch before returning. That is a real shame, as Ron's Place is a great bar with knowledgeable and friendly bartenders. If it and not been for Rudy, our bartender, this review would have been a 1 or 2 star review due to the smell. Seems like the owner could do something. read more

Rude bartenders, terrible drinks, bad customer service and unapologetic staff - When I asked the bartender for a vodka-soda with a dash of ginger beer instead of a Moscow Mule because I do not like sweet stuff - she said "ginger beer is not sweet, who is making your drinks?" She even gave me a taste of ginger beer that was pretty sweet. I decided to politely entertain her anyway and tell her I still wanted soda over ginger beer. So, she made a face saying "Ok!" and made it anyway - first of all claiming the customer(me) was wrong. My other Indian guy friends walked in and I moved to a table from the bar. We ordered a bunch of drinks with a different bartender. We asked for the check, the new bartender brought the check and we put our card in without looking at the check (bad on our part for trusting the establishment and it's staff). We are about to leave the bar and the original bartender screams from the back of the bar saying "Hey! You can't leave, you gotta pay!" To put this in perspective, we are customers, Indian people who already are so aware of our race and all the stereotyping that comes with it, who have faced a TONNE of racism, who were getting called out like we were thieves in front of everyone at the bar. We obviously already closed out too. We went in to see what the fuss was about and the new bartender screwed up and gave us the wrong check (for a higher tab BTW) My friend who paid for all of us went ahead and re swiped for the new bill. None of the bartenders apologized or said we should have known you paid or even about the way the screamed across the bar instead of walking to the door or talking to us outside. As we were signing, my friend said to the original bartender - " Hey, you want to maybe apologize for the way you called us out, because we actually paid and you guys messed up?" She replied " We are really busy" Case closed. Vow to never walk into an establishment like that - for their misogynistic (lack of a better word for women who mansplain to other women how they like their drinks), rude and terrible customer service, clearly incompetent staff - (couldn't make a drink or create the right check). And FYI, if you took the time to scream and call someone out for something that was not their fault - have the decency to do the same screaming and announce to everyone that it was your fault and not the other person's. I thought we were going to enjoy this place upon entering, reminded me of a nice quiet neighborhood bar. But, the day we went there was a group (particularly one person) who was loud and obnoxious, they wanted to make sure they were heard by all in the bar. Bar staff did nothing to quiet this group, we even saw two ladies come in and sit down, they left as quickly as they arrived. We had one drink each and started, but closed our tab just as fast. This is a really small and nice place to chill. Because it's small it doesn't get too loud or crowded. I've been here a few times to get drinks with some friends. We ordered the alligator hush puppies once and they were amazing. Besides that, I haven't ordered food here so I can't really comment on their food. The beer and whiskeys are very reasonably priced, whether you do flights or order them individually. I also can't comment on their service because we always sit at the bar.
