Oh man! Oh man! Tell me why I have never been to Roma's Pizza up until the other weekend!??? I also frequent the Downtown nightlife on a pretty regular basis! I've usually went to the "other" ,more well known "after club" pizza place.. a street over and a little bit a walks away! Roma's Pizza is really really goood! It also doesn't get the long lines that the "other" place gets! You feel less claustrophobic and "sardined" in a small ass hallway. The pizza itself, personally, taste a whole lot better! Just my honest opinion. The location is also just a bit more accommodating, being on the same street as most of the bars. After my first slice.. I was thoroughly satisfied. This used to be my husband and my go to pizza place. We ate here every Friday, to the point where they knew his name. Despite many of our friends' telling us how they disliked this place, due to pizza being cold, and although our pizza was sometimes lukewarm, we stayed true to them. HOWEVER, several weeks ago, we had the worst experience we have had at any restaurant. I never write a review, but this experience prompted me to write one. We ordered the same pizza we always order - Everything But The Meat, without the pineapple, extra cheese. My husband called it in, and I picked it up on my way home. When I arrived, we were given what was clearly a display pizza with pineapple on it. I nicely asked "Are you sure that's ours? We usually get it without pineapple." The worker, I believe his name was Octavio, stated "Yes! I asked your husband twice, he said he wanted pineapple." I stated "Oh, I'm not sure why, as we always say without." And he said "Well, he asked for us to sub the extra cheese for the pineapple, which we don't do, so maybe he just didn't want to waste money." This is when I was really upset, as his tone was accusatory and aggressive - it is not about money, as we order the same thing every time, and in fact paid the extra money for extra cheese. I said "Well, it will be a waste either way, as we will throw the pineapple out, due to my mild allergy." And he just said "I don't know, talk to your husband - he seems sure of this." Of course, my husband insisted that he said no pineapples, and I believe him, as this is a standard order for us. When I arrived home (5 mins away from Roma's), he called them to clarify. As we were frequent customers, we even offered to come pick up a fresh pizza, didn't demand a refund, anything - but we were confronted again with the same abrasive comments from Octavio, who yelled at my husband. At this point, we decided we are never returning. Since then, we have started going to Zalat pizza, which we much prefer. Their customer service is far superior, and their pizzas are amazing. If you are looking for a just okay, subpar pizza, with poor customer service, come to Roma's, otherwise - avoid it at all costs. read more

Tried this place 2x in 2 days back to back. First time was at 2:30am after bar hopping. Second time was the day after at 10:00pm after picking up a lost ID. Ha! Pizzas can be ordered as a whole or by the slice. I got a slice of the margherita pizza. After a late night out, the ooey gooey cheesy warmth tastes like the best thing on earth. But even without the drinking, the pizza is better than most joints. The crust is thin and crispy, there is a lot of cheese, and the toppings taste fresh. Its not an artisanal pizza, but its a lot better than the ones sold out of that truck parked by House of Blues! The staff was super nice during both visits. Fast, inexpensive (by the slice), and ooey-gooey-cheese. If you're looking for a nearby pizza place with fast and friendly service and serves a tasty slice of pie this would be the place to visit. The pizza is NY-style as you need to fold the slice to eat otherwise you'll have cheese/toppings dripping all over the place. They serve a wide range of pizzas which can include toppings like artichoke & olives to more classics like pepperoni or supreme (which you can get by-the-slice). The sauce is good and toppings are even better, and did I forget to mention the delicious dripping cheese, it's a good thing. They also serve hot sandwiches, pastas, and gyros which all looked pretty good and the place even has a bar area! Overall, the place is definitely worth the visit if you're in the area hankering for a good slice of pizza. This spot would be a 10 but it really depends on what time you come. Lunch is good, they are busy but they serve you fast. The pizzas are hot and fresh and you see them coming out of the oven. The staff are friendly and fast and overall a good spot to try. The location is in a really bad spot. No parking unless you use the garage, which you have to pay, or you luck up and get a metered spot. It's really a hassle, especially if you just want to grab a slice or pick up something quick. It had just enough tomato sauce with a slight sweet aroma, crust was crunchy and soft in the middle and slices were hot right out of oven. After watching Dynamos game, this was nice way to end the evening. My slice had pieces of garlic which blended well with the pizza. It is very clean and has nice decor. Service is great! We had a fabulous experience @ Roma's last Saturday...we were staying at the hotel across the street (Hotel ICON) for a wedding and had a group of ~ 20 that evening. Pretty good pizza and pretty good service. It's right across the street from the Hotel ICON, which was highly convenient for us. You get plenty of food and toppings for the price! The flavor reminded me heavily of Papa John's pizza. To the point I started looking for the garlic cream sauce for my crust. After the bars and clubs close at 2pm, you can stagger your way over to Roma's Pizza on main street to cure your late night munchies, where they are open till 3pm. They're cranking out the pizza, made to order (unless you get a slice of your regular pepperoni or cheese), and boy is the pizza a god send. I've eaten here multiple times before, but today I stopped in on my lunch break during work with my service dog. I was immediately told I could not be in their restaurant with my service dog. I calmly tried to explain to them that she's a service dog protected by ADA law, but they didn't care to listen and demanded that I show proof of registration, which doesn't exist, as there is no registry for service dogs and it is not required by law either. They continued to not listen to me and demand I show registration. They wouldn't even let me order and take my food to go. I finally had to pull up my service dog's graduation certificate to prove that she's a legit service dog and I'm not someone who was just trying to bring their pet into their business. What they did was completely illegal and unfortunately I will likely not visit or eat there again. They'll be lucky if I don't report them for violating ADA law. read more

Roma's pizza is the quintessential greasy (in an amazingly delicious way) college pizza place. It offers decent sized pieces of melted cheesy heavenly goodness by the slice or pie. Granted, I haven't tried all the flavors of pizza (and they seem to have more than a few). I've pretty much stuck to either plain or pepperoni. Roma's may not be the hippest place nor does it have the most up-to-date decor that foodies are now looking for. But the flavor is good. They're not stingy with the toppings. And the price is right for it's clientele. Is it gourmet? No. Is it a place to which hipsters will flock. Thank the gods, no! (Unless they want to eat their pizza ironically...whatever that means). It's good, fill your stomach, affordable pizza that is perfect for it's proximity to downtown Houston offices and the University of Houston-Downtown campus. At lunchtime there's always a great mix of students, cubicle farm escapees, and random downtown people chowing down. I love that I can pop out of the office and walk not even 5-minutes and grab a slice before or after class.
