We have hired Romans many years over the past 10 to routinely trim our trees/shrubs and special tree removal projects. The first couple of times we were thrilled with their service, work and cleanliness. Over the years that started to decline. The last two years cleanup was a bit messy and last year they missed one tree to be removed and refused to return to finish the job. We were surprised and disappointed. I saw Roman's staff trimming across to my neighbor's orange tree , and they did very good job at there, so I asked them to do my backyard grapefruit tree to trim. They did beautiful job and their price is very reasonable. I am very picky, but they made no mess after that, they did very clean job as well. I had this neighbor once who cut down all his trees and his yard was all stumps. It was not very feng shui but he never got a text while at work asking him if he knew a tree was down in his yard. A big tree. That happened to me last week. I immediately called Roman's tree service. They were responsive, sympathetic to the fact that it was an emergency (no damage but the neighbors weren't talking to me), and got the tree removed quickly. They even emptied my green waste bin. Besides their speedy service, I have to say they are very clean. They are like ninjas. You would never know that there was a tree down or any debris- really good clean up. Their prices were extremely reasonable, especially considering they are ISA certified, insured, and bonded. They really knew their stuff, too, and were able to trim down a huge oak tree while keeping it looking natural. We had a large 75 year old, Monterey pine that was basically on its last limbs. We called Roman's Tree Service, and three other companies. Roman's quotes came in mid range of all the others, so based on their timely response and the fact that they are insured and bonded, we went with Romans. My husband and I did research on a few businesses that could cut down two sappy tress for us, that were damaging our property and all of these places were around $1200-$1400. We had great success with Roman's Tree Service in the past when they removed an old pine tree for us. We decided to use them again, this time to trim an overgrown, mature Dutch Elm tree in our backyard. Erick Roman, a very professional arborist, came out to size up the job and to provide us with a very reasonable estimate. His crew came out a couple of weeks later to do the day-long job. His main tree cutter, Jose, did a marvelous job of trimming and shaping our tree. His clean-up crew also did a wonderful job of picking up and cleaning our yard after the job was done. I found their entire crew to be courteous, professional, and hardworking. Our backyard looks so "open" now with abundant sunlight streaming through the less dense Dutch Elm. Erick's crew did a great job removing a couple of large Oak trees that were inches away from my home. They were careful not to damage the roof and did a great job cleaning up afterwards. I had a couple of minor things I wanted addressed after the job was completed, and Erick took care of them the same day I brought them up. I thought that was very good customer service. I have used Romans for several years, based on the recommendation of a neighbor. They do excellent work and are very moderately priced. They know their trees and won't recommend cutting trees and bushes at the wrong time of the year. I won't actually trust anyone else with the trees on my property. If that isn't enough, they are incredibly polite and easy to work with. They clean up after the work is done to the point that you're not sure they were even there, except for the pruned trees. During the height of the California wildfires, red flag alerts were issued throughout the east Bay warning of high fire danger, excessive smoke and recommendations on limiting the use of equipment that can cause sparks. Despite this, Roman's Tree Service spent the day at an unoccupied house across the street from ours cutting down a large tree. The company was unresponsive when we called the office and spoke with one of the crew on site. These alerts are advisory, not mandatory, but with out-of-control wildfires burning half our state it seemed highly irresponsible for a tree service company to be working with multiple chain saws. Perhaps people will keep this in mind when choosing a tree service in the future. read more

Our neighbor's tree fell into our backyard two days ago. Created a lot damage and debris. Not to mention half of the tree was still hanging precariously over our bedroom. I called Roman's Tree Service and they stopped the project they were working on to handle our emergency the same day. I had an apple tree stump in my back yard that needed removal. These guys came by exactly at the appointed time. Unfortunately, because of the location of the stump they could not do the job, but they told me immediately and were professional about it. I recommend them if your job can be handled by their grinding machinery...I'm sure they are excellent at pruning and emergency removal as well. read more

We live on a hillside property populated with a number of very tall Monterey Cypress and Monterey Pine trees. Over the years, we've had Roman's come out half a dozen times to do tree pruning, thinning, topping, and in some cases, removal. I've always dealt with Nelzon Castellanos, a very pleasant, accommodating fellow, who I understand is related to the owner. Best of all is their prices. EXCELLENT COMPANY! We highly recommend them! Better than 5 stars! We recently bought a fixer with a whole bunch of trees and bushes on the property that needed to go. They gave us a competitive bid; in fact we added another section of removal to the bid since we could afford to do it. The day of removal they were prompt and professional and did an AMAZING job! They worked really hard, did a great clean up job and knew what they were doing. They removed 7 very tall cypress trees by trimming them down into toothpicks and pulling out the trunks- truly difficult work they made seem effortless. They also trimmed a huge redwood, lemon and avocado trees, and removed countless chunks of overgrown rosemary and evergreen bushes. We are absolutely thrilled with the job they did. We plan on hiring them again when we are ready for the next phase and highly recommend them! read more

Thanks to Yelp I was able to do my research before selecting an company to come and cut some critical branches. After further due diligence with 3 quotes I found Roman to be the most cost-effective and I was also impressed most with his customer service. He showed up when he said he would, he provided an estimate quickly and stuck to it. His team showed up on time as we'd agreed and they were polite and efficient. The guys followed his instruction, were very careful around my sprinker heads in the lawn and even moved some potted plants so they wouldn't be harmed. They did a GREAT job and tidied up so well you'd barely know they were there. Next time I need some trimming done I'll go right to Roman's. read more

I'm disappointed to write this review, but I'm also deeply disappointed not to work with this company. Erick came out and looked at my trees, and gave me some great suggestions for supporting some very stressed trees. He clearly knows what he's doing and he's a very nice guy. He promised me a bid within a few days, but it never came. I have called repeatedly over the last six weeks. I really wanted to hire him, but I needed to know the cost and how it would be broken out. His receptionist tried to contact him two different times while I waited on the line, but didn't succeed. So, I'm giving up. I had one other bid, and I'll go with that as it also has good reviews. read more

I recently used Roman's Tree Service to remove a twenty foot bay tree and trim a wild plum tree. They also trimmed an ornamental Japanese maple. I can't speak highly enough about my experience with Roman's. The owner, Erick Roman, arrived at the property to provide an estimate. After surveying the needed work he provided a complete written proposal which included his proof of liability and workers' comp insurance printed out from the mobile office that he carries in his truck. He also included the date and time his employees would be there and their names. Both men, Jose and Oscar, arrived on time and did an outstanding job of cutting and clearing. Access to both trees was on a hillside and difficult but the workers made it look easy. They also thoroughly cleaned up the area and disposed of the debris that was generated. When I got home from work the yard was so clean I couldn't tell that they had been there. Another reason that leads me to recommend Roman's without reservation is that Erick is a certified arborist and his expertise and knowledge were extremely helpful in diagnosing problems I am having with an ornamental. Finally, his prices are competitive. I found Roman's tree service from a favorable review in Consumer's Checkbook Magazine. I believe in the value of the Yelp community and would like to spread the word. read more

After searching for a tree company and reading up the reviews on Yelp, I decided to call Roman's Tree Service for a quote. Erick came on time for the appointment and was able to give me an estimate on the spot. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. I was asking him all kind of questions about trees and he was nice enough to answer every one of them without rushing to his next appointment. Once his crew came on site, they did a great job at my property. They cut down 3 old pine trees (maybe 50' - 60' high) and pruned back a large maple tree. This was no easy task, as I have a fence, wood deck and my neighbor trees next to or beneath those trees. They took their time and were very careful with the entire job. . Moved into this home just over three years ago. Romans is the fourth tree company we've had come out and our quest is now over. Once this professional, respectful and ever so careful with your garden/plantings crew finishes - your trees will be healthier, more symmetrical, better balanced with limb weight -and your quest for a decent tree service will be over too. We will never use another fly- by -night crew again. We've had horrible experiences with unqualified, chainsaw happy crews that were probably hashed together and just want to knock out your job in a few hours so they can ring your neighbors doorbell and solicit more jobs for the afternoon. I am passionate about gardening and know that a good, thorough pruning can not be rushed. One bad cut can irreparably damage a tree even ten years out. Romans crew was nearly surgically precise and their clean up immaculate. His bid was not necessarily the highest, and I would have paid probably twice what I did for the quality of work we received and the overall results from his crew. I would recommend this company to my Mama - and that is REALLY saying something! Franklin was our foreman, and he and his crew walk on water - period. read more
