Large Biscuit and Gravy

Absolutely terrible experience at Roger's. First off, the biscuits were dry, crumbly, and had zero flavor. The so-called "gravy" was basically a smear at the bottom of the container -- barely enough to cover half a biscuit, let alone make a meal out of it. We called in the order and were told 15 minutes for pickup. That seemed reasonable, but we ended up waiting nearly an entire hour before the food was finally handed to us. The only update I was given was that they had to make more gravy for the order because they didn't have enough on hand. By the time we got the food, not only was it cold, but it wasn't even worth eating. Dry biscuits, almost no gravy, and the feeling that they just don't care about the quality of our experience/food. Between the awful food and the ridiculous wait, I can confidently say we will not be back. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration -- go anywhere else.

Old School Local Diner

Heading down to Ashland, needed some fuel. I love everything about diner culture. It's a real slice of Americana, or at least an old Americano. These sorts of places are filled with local so you get a sense of an area better than more slick places. And the food is as close to an old American cuisine as you have it. No surprises on the menu, just what you'd expect. Unfortunately, it's just middle of the road quality, but they compensate for that with price and quantity. Serhice was friendly and efficient.

I'm a retired truck driver and have been to restaurants all across the country so I know what's good and what's not. The food here is the best I've ever had without a doubt. The cost is very reasonable and the servers make you feel very welcome, like you're family. I highly recommend this warm homey place to everyone. You'll definitely want to bring your kids here.

Eggs Benedict & Hashbrowns @ Roger's Restaurant.

Disappointing Sunday breakfast @ Roger's Restaurant in Albany, OR. Roger's was pretty busy and we were happy to seat ourselves at an open table. Waitress was friendly enough. Many local patrons were happily enjoying their meals and company. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in my Veggie Omelet. It consisted of lots of raw onion, raw green pepper, tomato, canned mushrooms and black olives. No one likes uncooked veggies, especially onions, wrapped in a barely warm omelet. The Hashbrowns were also undercooked. I was told the Eggs Benedict was pretty good though. I would try this restaurant again, but definitely order something else, maybe a big cinnamon roll I noticed the older crowd enjoying. The restaurant itself was outdated with basic table and chairs. The condiments (hot sauce, shakers) were also greasy and we had to wipe them down with our napkins after we used them.

Chicken fried steak meal

The food was a glorified dog food. Tasted terrible and clearly was a pre-frozen and canned mash with canned gravy. Got coffee and never got a refill. Also had a biscuit and it was dry and terrible. I would rather eat McDonald's and that's saying a lot. Raw hash browns and the wait staff is lazy and half dumb. I said it was terrible when I went up to pay and said we never received a refill and they stated "we don't make anything in house aside from the biscuits" I replied they were just as bad. I wouldn't eat here again if I was starved. Better off hitting Walmart and buying the canned crap yourself and just microwaving it. Trash service and trash food!

Just okay. My steak was teeny tiny, and dry. And the vegetables were not cooked all the way through.

It was very busy when we walked in, but the wait was short. We were starving and didn't want to wait for a table, so we sat at the bar instead. Best decision ever. The service was incredible. The girls were so sweet, Casey is amazing! and the hostess was incredibly accommodating. The food was hands down the best breakfast my husband and I have ever had. If you haven't been here yet, you absolutely need to try it, you won't be sorry. The only regret you'll have is not coming in sooner. Even the coffee was fire!

I had never been to this side of Albany before, so it was great. Heads up for those of you that have never been here, there is parking on the street, or some parking lots I believe. It's an older building with character. It was really busy, but they fit us right in. I don't quite remember everything on the menu, I do remember they had a wide variety of breakfast, and lunch. There were some salads calling my name, but ultimately there was a French dip that won me over. I must say, I am happy with my choice. It was very flavorful, and I also added a cup of chili. I would recommend both. Service was fast, and the staff were all really nice. Sorry, I didn't get any pics. I was too excited to see my family.

It is always a big deal for me when I get to tell my wife that we are going to Sybaris. Tonight was going to be even more memorable because we brought our daughter along to celebrate Mother's Day. Our problem began when we ran into traffic and were 15 minutes late. At the door, our waiter informed us that the restaurant seats people every half hour. I apologized and we were seated. If I had known what was coming I would have turned around at the door and left. What followed was two hours of some of the rudest service I have ever experienced. I spent much of my youth working in restaurants in Upstate NY. I know that customers can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but our only mistake was that we were 15 minutes late. We spent the whole meal being polite while this guy continuously made us feel uncomfortable. It's difficult to describe the way this guy was acting. The food came out and it was good, but the waiter was coming off like wise ass. At the end of the meal there were hardly any people in the restaurant. The waiter gave me the bill then waited 15 minutes to pick up my card. I guess he got his satisfaction. If there was any doubt about his intentions, when we were getting ready to leave, he kept asking me if I wanted more water. That's an asshat move. Much to my wife's dismay, I tipped him fair because that's just what you do. My daughter gained a learning experience on the nature of jerks so I suppose that's something, but overall it was a sad twist on what was supposed to be a grand event. Of course we can't ever come back, but please take this information and remind your staff that they are a big part of the dinning experience.

The menu leans into classic American comfort food, and everything feels like it's made with care rather than rushed out of a kitchen. The standout for me is the turkey Reuben. It's one of those sandwiches you think about later in the day. The turkey is tender, the sauerkraut adds just the right amount of tang, and everything comes together perfectly on grilled rye. This Reuben is dressed with a smoked pepper spread instead of mustard and this is what absolutely turns it up compared to your usual turkey Reuben. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the kind of place where you can sit with a cup of coffee and take your time. If you're in Salem and looking for a solid comfort-food café, Bodhi Cafe--and especially that turkey Reuben--is well worth the stop.

The prices are reasonable and give folks in town another breakfast, brunch, or lunch spot. Because they're gaining in popularity (you go, Bodhi!), I really hope they put up signage, like Ba's did, that tells people to order before sitting. When I was there on Friday, I managed to grab the last available spot after I ordered. There were many people who were holding spots while they waited for others to join and others who had ordered but were looking around for a place to sit. People don't seem to get the concept of sit after you order, so I hope the shop can help remind/teach folks.
