We were in Seaside for the weekend and had been sorely disappointed at another restaurant so we were on the hunt for some good food. When we arrived it was almost closing time so a little empty. We walked in and were greeted and sat right away. The place is really small but has about 10 four tops. We placed the kids order first but it took a bit longer than expected on a slow afternoon. I'm assuming it was bc they were probably getting ready to close. Once our food came it was smooth sailing from there. My chilaquiles were pretty good but a bit salty so I asked for sour cream. Sour cream made it 1000 times better (I would recommend adding that to the meal). The French toast and pancakes were delicious and my husband and son were extremely satisfied. The kids grilled cheese was "the best" my 5yo had ever had. He finished it all! All and all I think we would come back for breakfast/lunch when in the area again. read more

Came here for lunch. The indoor seating is a small area along with some outdoor seating. The restaurant is clean inside. The staff are friendly. We ordered the crispy fried chicken sandwich and Oliver's fish tacos. The chicken is fried in a tempura batter and comes out crispy but not a heavy greasy coating. I liked the sandwich but I thought it would have more taste to it. Maybe more Rocky's sauce would have helped. On the other hand it wasn't messy to eat and if you want some hot sauce they have 5 to choose from. It is a good sandwich. I liked the crispiness of the seasoned fries. The fish tacos had nicely crispy fish with the right amount of sauce. There is a bit of a spicy note to them. The beans are also very good. Definitely would eat here again. read more

The service and food was great! I had the most delicious pear salad which had onions, strawberries, walnuts and blue cheese with a light champagne vinaigrette. It was a healthy serving and I finished the whole thing! The service was fast and so helpful. I saw the entre the guy at the next table and it was a huge steak with steamed vegetables. Visited Monterey from socal and stayed at the beachfront hotel nearby. We wanted casual local brunch and decided to come here. Cute spot. You can tell the locals come here which I loved since Monterey could be very touristy. Service: It was busy but we didn't have to wait for a table which was awesome. The servers and kitchen staff were hustling which I appreciated. Burrito w chorizo: 10/10 This burrito came out piping hot lol. I had to wait 5 minutes before picking it up and taking a bite. The flavors in this burrito was great. Very well seasoned. Very filling. It comes with pico de gallo inside already but I asked for extra bc that's just my preference. Carnitas skillet special: 9/10 Great flavors, great textures, veggies were fresh. Carnitas was tasty. Melted cheese was a nice touch. Comes with a choice of toast. We chose the English muffin which was roasted and buttered perfectly. Next time if I come I would try the chicken and waffles which seemed like a very popular dish. A neighbor mentioned that this place had outstanding fish tacos and they weren't lying. A light, fresh slaw with green sauce dress the tacos and the prawns themselves are lightly battered and quite crisp on arrival. The tortillas seem homemade. On the other end of the spectrum, bf ordered ribs that came with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. We were both really happy to say the least. The ribs were an enormous portion that seemed to be slow oven baked. It was quite tender. The service was lovely and everything came out with impressive attention to detail. Our only complaint would be that the restaurant is a tight squeeze and the table in the back right corner is situated just outside of the bathroom and is a very high-traffic area. Found this on Google, and upon entering, it was pretty packed for a Saturday morning. The place inside is a lot bigger than it looks. There is outdoor seating and inside, there is another room next to it. They seemed pretty well staffed for the hungry diners. I was greeted right away and provided with a menu. As much as I wanted to try everything, I kept it basic. We ordered: 1. Chorizo breakfast burrito with house potatoes inside. It also comes with a side of fruit - The burrito was amazing. Perfect balance of chorizo, egg, and potatoes. Nothing gets lost in all the flavor. It was cheesy and not greasy. 2. Bacon and sausage breakfast burrito with hash browns inside - I was a little thrown off that there were bell peppers in it, but it gave it a little crunch and balanced the greasiness of the meat. Our order was fresh, and we didn't have to wait that long. People who worked there were super helpful and nice. They made sure I had all the salsa or hot sauce that we might need for our burritos. They have the best service! We came from the Lantern restaurant in the Monterey hotel and was really disappointed in their service. When we arrived here the people that worked there was so warm and welcoming. We were greeted with a smile, They sat us right away, and food came out quickly. We finally felt relieved and my hungry kids were fed. Food was so good, place is so cute with festive decoration and Christmas music playing. Our server Athena was amazing. She was so friendly, nice and so kind to me and my kids. They even greeted each guests and you could tell they're repeat customers and knows the staff well. The hostess was also sooo nice and helpful. They even gave us recommendations for good spots to visit around here since we're visiting. We'll be going back to this restaurant for sure. But when we showed up, suddenly we had to "wait out front" because one customer with a yappy lap dog didn't want other dogs nearby. Mind you, her little gremlin was barking non-stop while our two large dogs sat like saints. But the staff bent the knee to Queen One-Egg-Special and told us we'd have to wait until she finished her royal breakfast. No exaggeration -- the entire patio came to a halt for her $5 meal while we stood there with $100 worth of appetite and two perfect dogs. The patio itself? Small, noisy, and basically on the side of a highway. Parking? Practically nonexistent unless you enjoy parallel parking under pressure. The real kicker? The staff let one grumpy guest run the place. We were running errands in the shopping mall, and this place is new and popped up on Yelp as nearby. They have seating outside in front, a covered patio out back, and just regular indoor dining. We opted for indoor. I saw a BLAT coming out from the kitchen for another table and it looked good. I asked about the onion rings I had seen in the Yelp photos (NOT on the menu, BUT ASK ABOUT THEM!) - the ones we got were more like onion string and I would go back for these alone, so friggin good. The BLAT we split, it was also very good, a minor quibble could be that it could have used more bacon - but couldn't we all use more bacon in our lives?? the food is great i really like the chicken sandwich and their breakfast menu. but the experience was truly made by our server, Cindy. She's a true Salvadoreña and hey, representation matters. I think she is related to the owners because she gave the impression that she truly cares and ensured we felt supported and enjoyed our meals. She went above and beyond for my little ones and made sure our cups of coffee stayed topped off. I want to come here daily if I didnt have to work, she made me feel at home and made me miss my family from El Salvador with her warm smile and beautiful welcome, speaking to us in Spanish. I have had so many mediocre plates of chilaquiles in restaurants I stopped ordering them, but today I decided to give them a try at Rocky's and I was not disappointed. I got half red, half green and both sauces were so flavorful and hit the right notes. The tortillas were the perfect consistency - not hard but not soggy. I came for breakfast and from the looks of it, I was the first person to come in. I was seated quickly and the waitress was very attentive. Even the chef came out to speak with me. The diner looked very clean. They do have high chairs for the kids, and the restroom was spotless, but there were stairs leading up to it, so I don't know how it would be wheelchair accessible. As for the food, I got Huevos Rancheros with a side of sausage. It was delicious. My eggs were cooked perfectly, the ranchero sauce was light and balanced. The only thing that worried me throughout my entire meal were the country potatoes. There was such a depth of flavor and a char to them that was outstanding, that it got me thinking that either the chef has some brining method for the potatoes or they were a batch from yesterday. The iced tea was good. The waitress did tell me they do serve chicken and waffles, so I will come back for that! We had oatmeal (steel cut) with berries -- berries were fresh, the oatmeal not too sweet (excellent) and filling but not overwhelming. The egg breakfast was delicious and the potatoes had a good flavor. It's adorable to have a cafe in honor of a cute little doggy. The decor is thoughtful and convenient -- down to the window separating the back dining area (there is a privacy and anti-glare decoration to block the sun from hitting your eyes on the glass).
