We ate here for breakfast both mornings when we stayed at this hotel. The food is delicious and the ambiance of this restaurant is so cute. You can sit and look out the big windows at the ocean while eating and it's beautiful. I also had some green tea and it was so good! They told me they get it from a local business and it was some of the best loose leaf green tea I've ever had! Also, the country potatoes were so good! The service was also very attentive and the food always came out very quickly. We very much enjoyed starting our mornings here.

Absolutely loved our breakfast at The Lantern Room. The ocean views alone are worth the visit -- floor-to-ceiling windows with waves rolling in set the perfect, relaxed Monterey vibe. The service really stood out, especially Jun, who was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. He made the experience feel personal and unhurried, which is exactly what you want when you're enjoying a meal with a view like this. Everything we ordered was excellent: * A beautifully flaky croissant paired with yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit * A classic all-American breakfast plate with eggs, crispy bacon, and perfectly seasoned potatoes * A fresh smoked salmon plate with capers, onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers * Comforting oatmeal with all the right add-ins * And great coffee, enjoyed while looking straight out at the ocean Quality food, thoughtful service, and one of the best breakfast views in Monterey. This is the kind of place you come back to -- highly recommend.

A very charming restaurant with a perfect ocean view. I visited here when staying at the hotel, it's easily found on the 4th floor facing the ocean, right off the elevator. We dined on a Saturday morning and it was only half full, the service was upbeat , professional and quick. I ordered the French toast and a mimosa. My only feedback is that the menu lacks dairy or meat substitutes (though understandable as breakfast can be challenging).

We came here for breakfast and dinner. You definitely get very nice views of the ocean no matter where you sit. There were a good amount of people, but it did not get crowded enough to where you need a reservation. This restaurant is located on the 4th floor of the Monterey Beach Hotel. The lobby bar also shares some of the same offerings as the Lantern Room. The servers we had were super nice and accommodating whenever we dined there. We had oatmeal and a parfait for breakfast. Oatmeal came with brown sugar, candied macadamia nuts, and dried fruit (raisins). I requested a side of whole milk since I like my oatmeal like my cereal. For dinner, the place has a very intimate setting with dim lights and a fireplace. Very romantic with the tabletop lights. The server brings you seaweed chips for the table. Creative concept, but it tasted very bland. We ordered the chicken and steak. The steak did not blow me away, but it was still good. It came with a great serving of salad and fries. The chocolate pot creme dessert however was my favorite dish there. Overall the ambiance and servers were fantastic, but the food was just okay.

As a Celiac, when you say separate fryer for fries... we go straight wild! The service was great and had knowledge of gluten free items. We had the bass, snapper, mashed potato's, and fries. The view is remarkable! You can see the sunset if you time it right, amazing! Also good NA options (beer and wine).

We went here tonight for a date night and everything was so perfect! Dennis was our server and he had such great customer service and made us feel so welcome. The ambience was amazing, as always, with a cozy fire, and the food was delicious. We had the cioppino and the New York strip. The steak was perfectly cooked and the truffle pomme mashed potato side was amazing! We finished off with the bread pudding, which was the best we've ever had! We also got the locals discount, which is really one of the best deals in town. We can't wait to come back.

Overpriced. Don't come hungry. You pay for the view (seen through dirty windows) which can be enjoyed anywhere on the property. Staff were stale and awkward. Wouldn't return. One bonus-an excellent Cabernet

The waiter with the mustache was very rude. I wish I knew his name but they weren't wearing name tags nor did he introduce himself. He asked us what we wanted to drink and when my 6 year old daughter started to order, she began with her meal order but he cut her off and said no, "DRINK ORDER!!!" then he just ignored us and walked away. He did not give her or myself a chance to order at all. The restaurant was 1/3 full so it wasn't even that busy. If AMEX did not provide a breakfast credit, I would have left after that encounter. It wasn't until my husband had to walk up to another waiter and request a different server that someone actually acknowledge and took our order. Come to think of it, the first gentleman was probably only in charge of drinks anyways so I understood if he couldn't take out food order. But he was VERY RUDE and short with us when we tried to order drinks. Plus side, the restaurant was beautiful and had a great view.

This restaurant is a must try! My bf and I drove up from OC for a weekend getaway and never expected for this restaurant to be so good. The night before we ate at a very highly rated seafood spot on the warf and we were so disappointed. If we come back to Monterey, this restaurant will be the first on our list every time. I hope the quality and service don't change. Caesar salad: 8/10 The lettuce was fresh. Dressed well. And the watermelon radish gave it a nice touch. Mussels appetizer: 10/10 The mussels were freakin HUGE and super fresh. Clean. No grindy sand that can come with unproperly cleaned shell fish. The broth was Thai flavored and very well done. Sooo good. The bread it comes with is the best bread I've ever had period. Perfectly crispy and seasoned. 2 large pieces dips great with the broth. Pork chop: 12/10 The best pork chop I have ever had. Hands down. I never knew a pork chop could taste so damn good. Cooked perfectly. So tender with the perfect meat to fat ratio. The peach topping is the perfect light touch to balance all the heavier flavors. Love. Love. Love. Cod Cioppino: 10/10 The seafood broth is perfectly seafoody and tomatoey. ALL of the seafood in the dish was SUPER fresh and cooked perfectly. So much flavor. Absolutely loved this dish. Overall the service was great. Drinks were good. Food was EXCELLENT!!! Compliments to the staff and chefs.

Excellent seafood. Yes slightly pricey but you get what you pay for. Their Virginika (spelling?) Oysters were really good (meaty, slight brine, neutral finish), Mussels were plump and fresh like they were just harvested, and the Ciopinno with a medley of fresh seafood and fresh local sourdough to provide the perfect complement to accompany the stew. The staff was friendly and inviting and not pushy. Nice ambiance to simply be and take in the environment. Enjoyed it on my own and would also enjoy bringing the family as well.

I've been to The Lantern Room three times now and it never disappoints! The service is amazing and the food is delicious! We usually start at the bar for a cocktail downstairs before our dinner reservations. The view from the bar and restaurant are spectacular! I would love to stay at the hotel but I only live 5 minutes away, lol!!

Awful. We were debating whether to brave the dark (6:30 pm) and RAIN and walk over with three kids and a dog from our hotel to eat dinner at The Lantern, but decided "let's go." We got to the restaurant, only to be turned away because "they do not allow dogs." When I informed them that YELP website had specifically said "dogs allowed," PLUS I had indicated that I am bringing my dog to the restaurant on "OpenTable" and that no one had contacted me to inform me that I couldn't do so otherwise. PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC. It's not like this was the only restaurant that we had looked at. I considered you because 1. DOG ALLOWED. 2. Menu. 3. Proximity. Future patrons, PLEASE BE AWARE: THIS VENUE DO NOT ALLOW DOG, other than service dog (NO OFFENSE TO SERVICE DOG or PATRONS WHO REQUIRE SERVICE DOG). PLEASE BE TRANSPARENT.

Better customer service and acknowledgment of guests that chose your restaurant! You could tell staff here is not happy to work there.

There's ample parking in the plaza, so it should not be a concern. We went on a weekday morning, so it wasn't crowded but the looking at how at the familiarity between the staff and some of the customers, it seemed like a local favorite. The staff was very sweet, and place seemed very chirpy, the place reminded of a good old diner. All the staff was very sweet. We got the Quintals omelette, and it was my first time trying refried beans in an omelette and it was definitely something we'd try again. We also got French toast with fresh fruits and it was delicious too.

It was a busy morning,…read moreand while the staff was genuinely friendly throughout our visit, the service coordination and overall meal quality were a bit hit-or-miss. The Experience & Service: There was some noticeable confusion when our meals were served. A food runner brought out my husband's plate first, then turned to me and asked if I had ordered anything. When I told her I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, she asked if our server had mentioned they were out of it and if I had picked a replacement. He hadn't told me anything of the sort. A few minutes later, our server came by to reassure me my food would be out shortly, bringing a small bowl of fruit to tide me over. My plate did eventually arrive, but the miscommunication up front was a bit awkward. The Food: Crab Cake Benedict: Unfortunately, the dish was just okay. The crab cake itself tasted like a pre-breaded, frozen patty rather than freshly made. Smothered under the poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, it was fine, but nothing special. Omelet & Home Fries: My husband really enjoyed his omelet. However, his side of home fries was a letdown--they weren't cooked through properly and had an off-taste of old fryer oil. Final Verdict: The staff is nice and trying hard during a busy rush, but given the service hiccups and average food execution, I'm not sure we would return if we're in the area again.
