This place cooks up local fish - like their market plate! Pretty chill for Sunday lunch. Cute place on a cute street in Monterey. The Popovers were also quite special - we were the first when they just opened for lunch so it was super fresh and warm! Perfect. Not too greasy but light and airy. My hb got the tuna melt which he liked, noted that it's very cheesy but at the same time, not too heavy! Of course, got the Wild Fish Plate, which was petrale sole, but it was fried, which wasn't specified... I couldn't eat it so the chef renade me a version that was more steamed. Bonus points for that. Wild Fish is a very cute restaurant in downtown Pacific Grove serving up a delicious assortment of fresh seafood. We popped in for lunch and shared some appetizers and a sandwich, and everything tasted fresh and scratchmade. Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout. We started with the calamari, which came out piping hot from the fryer, and I absolutely loved the crunch of the tempura fry. It paired perfectly with a couple lemon wedges and a chili-lime aioli. We also ordered a bowl of the soup of the day, which was a seafood broth loaded with steamer clams and sablefish. They mentioned the use of coconut milk, so I had assumed the broth would be creamier, but it came out very thin and sour, almost like a Thai Tom Yum Goong. While the seafood was delicious, the broth was not our favorite since it felt a bit one dimensional and really needed some cream, cracked pepper and fresh herbs to balance the flavor profile out. For our main we ordered the spicy fried fish sandwich with a side salad. The fry on the fish was again perfect, and the texture was super flaky, but I found it to be a bit underseasoned and lacking spice entirely, which was disappointing given the name. While all of the veggies on the plate were super fresh, the side salad was very underwhelming since the dressing tasted purely of oil, so it felt like I was eating undressed spinach with a handful of cherry tomatoes. Overall, it is a great spot to have a pleasant meal, especially with the nice front patio for enjoying your food when the weather is nice, and the seafood in general is super fresh. read more

Busy place this was, definitely recommend a reservation if coming for dinner. It seemed like a two man show but they were doing their best and still kind while doing it. They were the host, waiter, and bartenders all at the same time. Food was unique and farm to table, as they had told us. Everything seemed very fresh. Kumamoto oysters were great, popovers a bit bland but the whole fish for two was a great portion to share between two people. Excellent in flavor and in house made tater sauce was good. A new favorite restaurant in Pacific Grove!! They offer indoor, outdoor and bar seating. If you go early, you can take advantage of happy hour prices and a bar menu. Craving fresh fish, I opted for the salmon ceviche special to start which was served with crispy rice wafers and accompanied by a sauce bursting with flavor. For the main course, I ordered the sablefish which was marinated in another amazing sauce and served with roasted tomatoes and mushrooms. Ryan does a great job managing the bar, pouring beers, mixing cocktails and serving customers at the bar and in the bar area. Tried the fish and chips at Wild Fish and was very impressed. The fish batter was thin, crispy, and packed with flavor. The fish itself was absolutely delicious--an easy 10/10. The fries were a bit thick and slightly undercooked, so they were just okay for me. To be fair, I didn't mention it to the staff, and I'm confident they would have happily corrected it if I had. We also ordered the butter lettuce salad (not pictured), and it was fabulous. The vinegar dressing paired perfectly with the crispy capers and sunflower seeds--such a delicious combination. We sat outside, which made for a lovely dining experience. Our server, an older gentleman, was attentive, kind, and provided excellent service throughout the meal. The best meal I had while visiting Carmel/Monterey area! We had a great dining experience - amazing service and every item we ate was excellent. We had the whole roasted fish, bouillabaisse, oysters and mango sorbet. The seafood is so extremely fresh - best oysters I've ever had with their special lemongrass sauce. The mango sorbet has a coconut element that makes it taste exactly like mango sticky rice. This was honestly better than Michelin restaurants I dined at in the area. We had a great dining experience at Wild Fish! The seasonal menu boasts of local and sustainably caught seafood and they are very sensitive/helpful with dietary restrictions as the owners are both gluten free (have a separate gluten free cooking situation so there is no cross contamination). Our waiter was very knowledgeable and gave great menu suggestions. We ended up with the Tuna Carpaccio, Roasted Artichoke, and Steamed Fish in Coconut Broth. All of it was excellent! The carpaccio was amazingly delicate and the flavors were fantastic. The artichoke was roasted really well and the sauce (dairy free even though it was ranch!) really added to it. The steamed fish was extremely tender and cooked well and the flavors with the lion's mane mushroom and coconut broth were also fantastic. All of the items we ordered were delicious! We had a lovely front window seat facing the outside and it was a great ambience in there. Would recommend and would go back, especially to experience different seasonal items as the year changes and to go on a Friday or Saturday night for live jazz! Came here March 7th 2025 for lunch. The $16 chorizo chowder bowl came with plenty of chopped potatoes clams onions but the soup base was not filling nor thick enough to pass for a clam chowder. Wife like the $26 wild fish plate which came with garden vegetables several filets of whitefish and white rice. Portion size good even for the steep $26 prices The $26 shrimp boil came with at least half a dozen shrimp in a soup bowl with large portions of chopped tomatoes. Not sure if this was an optimal combination as boiling the shrimp instead of pan frying it caused a lot of flavor in the shrimp to be lost. Will probably stay with the Thai restaurant up the block next time you come to Pacific Grove. read more

We sat outside near the band. That was lovely! It did get cold and heaters weren't turned on until 8pm, so bring a jacket. Owners gave a friendly greeting and sat us! One server so expect very slow service. We never git our ketchup after two asks. Oh, well. Butter leaf lettuce was good. Capers a tad too burned and salad overdressed. Brussel sprouts just ok. We went back to the Wild Fish Restaurant in Pacific Grove for dinner, (this time) as well as to listen to the Lighthouse Jazz Quartet again. On Friday night it was Stu on the saxophone, instead of Paul Contos, and the music was still fantastic! We really enjoyed our dinner. The food had an artistic presentation and it was very tasty. My husband had the Endive Citrus Salad and a glass of Avivo Sangiovese. I had the Warm Beet Delicate Salad and a glass of the Barnardus Sauvignon Blanc, and we shared the Bouillabaisse, and Otto's flavorful sourdough bread. It was a great meal and we had no room for dessert. I highly recommend going on the weekend so you can hear the Lighthouse Jazz Quartet as well. My husband and I arrived at Wild Fish at lunchtime on Monday, so as expected, we were seated right away on the charming little outside patio. There was one other couple dining, and they had their dog with them, which always makes me happy as a dog owner to see a dog friendly place. I opted for the Slacktide Martini. As a martini lover, I was intrigued by the house oyster shell infused vodka and seaweed garnish (!!). I probably wouldn't order it again because it was odd to smell seaweed every sip, but I give Wild Fish points for creativity in this cocktail. My husband had the jalapeño mocktail which was surprisingly sweet (unfortunately). We had a half dozen oysters to start. They had A LOT of mignonette poured into each one which was a bit overpowering. I ordered the chorizo chowder bowl. I'll admit, I was a bit baffled by this dish as I didn't see or taste any chorizo other than a mild smokiness. The broth was very watery. Honestly, it kind of seemed like a big bowl of celery soup with a smattering of potatoes. Pretty disappointing. My husband had the wild fish burger which he seemed to enjoy. This is the second time we came, I forgot to write a review about it last time so I wasted a chance to try out something else instead. Service was good. I asked to move up my reservation when we got here early and was take. Care of. We got checked on by multiple waiters. Food was a mix. The mushrooms sharable was too little imo for $14. I was also expecting them to be fried but instead they came out like stir fried but with heavy seasoning of black pepper on the seafood mushrooms. The lion main was better. The cashew dressing was good. The clam chowder was more like a fish chowder as it has clams on the top that made the bowl looked more filled but the soup was only half of the bowl. I did not try it but I was told it was not as creamy as the normal bread bowl clam chowder. The Sablefish dish changed so many times throughout the years if you follow the Yelp pictures, but there are mostly 2 pieces. Most was a teriyaki sauce and had only one piece. It was very soft and delicate texture, so the taste was good, just not sure why I only had one piece. I asked the waiters and one told me it's always one piece and one told me they go by the weight....um...also weird that the dish has no carb, only fish and veggies. The Bouillabaisse was a bit too salty for me. The place was not big but has outdoor and indoor dining. I remember it was quite dark inside once it got dark outside. There was a slight glitch on the payment and I had to redo it, but there's a QR code and you could pay with your phone and not via them for hand processing your card. Won't be back. read more

The location of the restaurant is by Cannery Row and is a small cozy place. This place was surprisingly pretty good. I actually enjoyed the dishes we had. The entire menu is gluten-free which was a treat for my wife. She got the fish and chips and found it to be quite good. The last time she had gluten-free fish and chips was in New Zealand over 8 years ago. So this was a good find. I got their version of cioppino which was good because they used fresh ingredients. All their fish were locally caught and purchased by local distributors. That was nice since you get to try something unique to the area. I was visiting from the Bay Area was looking for fish and chips. The menu sounded pricey, but good. When I called for a take out order, the lady didn't know the menu. They also didn't have items that were on their menu on their website. I went ahead and ordered the fish and chips anyway, and also picked up some popovers. When I picked them up, they smelled amazing. When I opened the box, the fish was super greasy. There is no lemon. The breading of the fish was sticking to the potatoes that were underneath the fish. Went here last week for a business dinner. I was a bit concerned that when we showed up at 630 we were the only people in the place. I thought maybe others knew something we didn't. Overall the food was really solid, nothing that was "amazing" but well done. I had a seared tuna entrée. It was pretty basic. The tuna portion was definitely generous, the sear was great, but it just was missing something. It just looked a bit sad on the plate with their mixed green portion on the bottom. No sauce, nothing, it just didn't quite go together. For a seafood place, I'd imagine that's probably one of the most anchor orders possible, so to not execute that was a bit disappointing. The brussel sprouts were pretty great, albeit over salted. I'd say I'd certainly go back to Wild Fish over Passionfish though, certainly for the experience and the price, which lean heavily to Wild Fish. read more

We went before and had the absolute best experience, and because we were on a weekend trip, we wanted to visit it again. This place is pricey. PRICEY. It's pretty sad when you spend a few hundred dollars at a restaurant and you're still hungry afterward A few things: 1: The food was disappointing. Appetizers and mains were bland, and the food arrived warm, not hot. 2. I'm not sure if they changed cooks, because the bouillabaisse was so much different than last time we had it. This time it resembled more of a cioppino. It was very tomato-heavy, lots of onions, very little seafood. 3. The menu didn't have a wow-factor and I felt like there were more options last time. 4. We were served by one of the owner's. She was very pleasant. The restaurant wasn't very busy, but at one point my husband had to get up and ask for Tabasco, because he didn't want his food to get colder than it already was, and wait for her to come back to the table. My kids didn't understand all the hype. Understandably so. If this was a bad day, that's too bad. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

Wild fish fit the bill for a casual lunch on the patio with our pups while strolling downtown historic Pacific Grove. We started with a glass of bubbles and the Campari gin sour which he is still talking about. For lunch, I enjoyed the mussel steamers in a light tomato broth with their crusty house bread. Things looked promising... Wild Fish is a very attractive space with low lighting and ( real) candles and soft jazz playing. Very nice. But the food -- at least what I ordered--- was pretty bad and the service was painfully slow. We were delighted to see popovers on the menu but when we tasted them they were way too doughy and heavy not light and airy like popovers are supposed to be. We left them ( and waiter didn't ask if they were ok). I wanted the sea bass on the menu but no sea bass. They subbed patrole sole and served it on a white puree -- white on white is not appealing -- with some strange dried out snap peas ( I think). If you look at the photo I took you will see how unappealing the whole thing looked. My husband fared better with the blackened swordfish . It wasn't blackened but it was good. But it was served over grits and there was some liquid in the bowl that made a mess of the grits. We wanted dessert but after watching the couple next to us wait..... and wait.... and wait for dessert we decided to give up and get the check. The waiter was nice and the martini was good but no way would we go back. Interesting they seated a table of five people when we were halfway through our meal and told them the kitchen was closing and they better order their meals . How welcoming. read more

We have been to Wildfish several times, including the televised episode of Checks Please! night. But Thursday night, May 7, was the best we have had at this restaurant. The new chef is excellent, highly original, even a bit experimental, which we love as die-hard foodies! We started with the Tamil oysters featured that evening. I prefer Shigoku or Kumamoto but these medium sized oysters were mild and not overly briny. The tuna carpaccio was absolutely stunning, with salad -proportion pea sprouts and a mild creamy dressing drizzled on the side. Then we shared the crispy calamari with two types of sauces: one vinaigrette and the other more creamy. And we ended with the koji-marinated seabass on a base of very subtle goat-cheese infused napa cabbage. We thought the sauce on the napa cabbage was miso butter. We sat in the bar--our favorite place in the back of the restaurant where it is very quiet --and we had delightful banter with the bartender, JD. I recently went to the wild fish for dinner. I had a reservation for two. We definitely enjoyed it. We would definitely return. It was a nice environment is very quiet. Service was excellent. We started off with the oysters, which were delicious after that I believe I got the whole fish fried to perfection. We also had the Halibu, spicy greens, a popover. The wine was a Bernardus Chardonnay. We tried the Bouillabaisse and crispy potatoes. The drinks Mojito and service were really top notch! You can tell there's a lot of thought that goes into the menu. All the dishes made sense. A lot of seafood restaurants half-hazardly throw seafood with some linguine and call it a dish. Not here. bouillabaisse: Solid! They had a crab head butter sauce on the side that was an umami explosion which was obviously made from the crab in the soup. Most other seafood restaurants I've had in the area don't have this same level of innovativeness and attention to detail. Whole rockfish: great! Fish was fresh and Chimichurri sauce paired well on top. Smoked sable fish: amazing! Steamers: mussels were fresh but there was a copious amount of white wine in the sauce. Sounded good, till I saw the oysters were drowning in this mignonette, Tasted horrible and totally hid the flavor of oyster, which were shucked poorly. Wife had Sablefish with rainbow carrots, good she said but had better in past. I got Sesame Ahi with Miso glaze and shredded cabbage. Tuna was great however the Miso was so salty I avoided it with each bite. Shredded Cabbage slaw was dry and added little to flavor of fish. Service was Ok, surprised waitress ( one of owners) never asked if we enjoyed food and never questioned why I only eat two of my oysters we both left a lot of food on plate. read more
