The reason for the 3 star is solely for ambiance, decor, and great food. The service is very lacking. Our server while polite needs some education. When giving my order for my coffee I asked for a vanilla americano with skim milk added. the server didn't understand what skim milk was so I said fat free milk, he then replied with options of every milk made from plants, and so I replied fat free cow milk. Still there seemed to be an understanding issue because he just seemed to reply back with plant options. So I replied back to him fat free moo moo cow milk. He seemed to understand at that point cause he replied back with " oh cows milk". Now if I had received what I ordered I would have given 4 stars but I didn't. I received a plain latte, no vanilla, and when being delivered he said it was an americano. Lastly I need To say that I noticed some breakfast sandwiches muffins and other items sitting in the coffee bar, but at the tables none of that food seemed to be an option for purchase as they were not on the menu. Crema in Pacific Grove was exactly the kind of place I was hoping to find: somewhere I could sit outside near the ocean, read my book, and bring my dog along. There weren't many places that fit what I had in mind, so I was happy to find this cute spot with a patio, blue umbrellas, and a little ocean view in the distance. I ordered the butterfly lemonade, which came with a fun little piece of rock candy. I'm not usually a big fan of sweet drinks, but I really enjoyed this one--and it was so pretty! I also tried the tiramisu espresso martini, which was good. Next time, I'd like to try their classic version. It was a lovely little cocktail to enjoy on the patio while reading. They brought out a bowl of water for my dog, which I really appreciated. The outdoor seating on both sides of the building is charming, and the inside is just as cute, with lovely décor. I didn't try the food this time, but I'm hoping to come back for a meal. Parking can be tricky in this area, so it was a nice surprise that Crema has a private lot right next to the restaurant for customers. I found a spot easily and had no issues. I could see it filling up when the restaurant is busy, especially since beachgoers may use the lot even though it's meant for customers, but it was convenient during my visit. Ordering at the counter and having everything brought to the table felt easy, and I never felt rushed. Been here twice. The first time I was surprised at how nice it was. Great view. Nice location. Very cool dining area. Food was not good, though. Sort of basic ingredients for such a nice location. The pickle brine Bloody Mary was super good. They were just getting started so we gave them a bit of grace. Well, we decided to give them another try today and, if anything, I think they've gotten worse. Food was still pretty meh. The Bloody Mary was not good. No pickle infused vodka?! How do you run out of this? Why even have two on the menu when one is clearly superior? The nectarine focaccia -- which sounded good -- was a disappointment. Definitely not a good focaccia by any standards. Dry and I had to actually ask them to warm it up. Why serve it cold? Since we just were having a drink and a snack we asked if we could sit in the front in the comfy chairs. They took us to the patio in the back instead. Why? The real kicker -- and final straw -- was the rude wait staff that quietly talked smack behind my back because we didn't want to sit on the patio in the hot sun. They probably thought we were out of town tourists. Nope. We're local and will never recommend this place. There are so many better options. I'd put this place on my tourist trap list. My cousin brought us here during a visit, and it was a great choice. The location is beautiful, with amazing views and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the scenery. We came on a Friday during a holiday weekend, so it was pretty busy. Luckily, we happened to arrive at the right time and were able to grab a table that was just being cleared. The food was good, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Green Goddess Shrimp Roll, which had a generous amount of shrimp, plenty of flavor, and a fresh, soft roll. The rest of our group ordered the Bay King and Veggie Frittata, and both were enjoyed as well. Absolutely love Crema! If you're looking for coffee in Monterey, check them out. I stopped here for the first time for an afternoon pick me up and ordered a hot vanilla latte with oatmilk. My drink was really good! The staff were welcoming and friendly. Loved that they have indoor and outdoor seating, and very beautiful decor too. There is a small parking lot if you drive here. What a cute spot! After driving 2.5 hrs for our getaway, we arrived at Lovers Point for brunch. We entered on the side of the bar which was beautiful. The inside of Crema feels way more spacious and bright on the inside. I was told they also have an expanded back room. There's a good sized dining area with huge windows overlooking the park across the street and ocean. They have plenty of seating outside too including lounge chairs.You walk down a short corridor to get to the bathrooms (there's a water dispenser for one's water bottle which is nice! [maybe for staff though? Lol]). I got a whole big table to myself and one big plus about this place is it's so dog friendly!! My boys and I got a water bowl and plenty of loving attention. I tried the butterfly lemonade. It's purple! My favorite color. Thank goodness not too sweet. But you can sweeten it with a rock candy wand. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Plate. It was delicious and they give you a big helping of herbed cream cheese. There's a side of salad. The salmon is fresh and complemented with the appropriate amount of capers and pickled onions. I also tried the tomato and lentil soup. It comes out nice and hot. They give you such a generous amount and it's a rich texture that is just thick enough. Overall everything tasted really fresh. Did you know they have an entire section of their drink menu dedicated to espresso cocktails? My wife and I, we have fallen a little bit in love with this place! When I saw the building on the market with all the realty signs... I got really worried that some mediocre people were going to come in here and just profit off of a prime location. I'm elated to see that is not the case!!!!! Their menu is short and concise, it all fits in one side of paper so there's less decision fatigue. I really appreciate a restaurant that does a few things really well rather than doing a lot of things just okay. Also there is a clear delineation between breakfast and lunch, so the local Karens can't feign ignorance! Another thing I love is that there is a part of the restaurant in one of the side rooms that is a little coffee bar! And what's more: you CAN order the pastries from there even if you choose to sit down and grab a menu, just so you know though: the bakery items are not on the restaurant menu itself. read more

A Friday morning visit around 8am The view here is really nice and I loved the vibe with all the plants--it's a cool. It did get pretty loud pretty quickly once more people started coming in, though. The menu is simple and easy to look through. Drinks: I ordered an orange juice and didn't realize it was sparkling--not really what I was expecting, especially for $8. I also got the Nightshift brewed coffee, which was just okay. It's supposed to come with free refills, but our server never came back after taking our order, so that didn't end up happening. $7 for the coffee. Food: Both dishes were $15 each. The veggie frita was just alright (2/5). It had good chunks of potato, spinach, and egg, and I liked that I could swap the salad for fruit. But it was pretty burnt on the top and bottom, missing peppers, and overall just kind of bland. The chili verde burrito was also a 2/5. It was a good size with big chunks of meat and plenty of eggs, but it really lacked flavor and spice. It tasted a little better after adding salsa and hot sauce. Service: There were a lot of staff walking around, but not many actually checking in. Our server took our order and didn't come back--I had to ask someone else just to get the check. Experience with our server could have been more positive and inviting to encourage us to come back. Received no thank you for coming or notification that we left. The decorations are airy and inviting and the view, divine. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. We came in on a Thursday afternoon around 2PM. There were only 2 other tables with customers finishing their meals. We were seated and waited 10 minutes before we were acknowledged or even offered water. We thought they forgot about us, several times through our meal. There were 2 employees folding napkins and others walking in and out of the room, but we remained invisible. We ordered a sandwich and a salad. They were good but not worth the lack of service we received despite so many employees present. We felt unimpressed by the experience as everyone was obviously more concerned with prepping for one of their first days with an extended schedule into the afternoon/evening. Nice to see a new business, which was once one of my favorite restaurants, The Tinnery. We enjoyed a morning coffee served hot and creamy. (The Ghirardelli Mocha). They have a nice selection of morning pastries. We had the lemon cream scone, which were large, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Their outside patio ocean view is fantastic. They also offer a regular dine-in food menu and wine bar. Next time we stop, we'll try a sit-down lunch. Give Crema a try next time you're in Pacific Grove. read more

Rounding up from 3.5 stars. This is a place I'd love to love, but service issues and inconsistency still need to be ironed out. I've had the huevos rancheros burrito twice now. The first time, I thought it was perhaps the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. More recently, it was lacking in both texture and flavor (even once I added some of their delicious salsa). The inclusion of chopped tater tots is a nice idea, but if they're soggy, it changes the whole nature of the dish. Note that the burritos can be a bit messy, so it would be helpful if they were served with napkins and silverware. Not everything is "finger food," and picking up chunks of scrambled eggs with one's hands isn't for everyone. I really enjoyed the iced blueberry matcha tea drink on my first visit. The "butterfly" lemonade on my second trip was visually appealing, but didn't "wow" me. Same goes for the chocolate chip walnut oatmeal cookie--good, but not really memorable. Just tried the newly renovated Crema in PG where the Seltzer, Tinnery and Latitudes place used to be, and wow... this spot is going to be a great brunch place. They don't take reservations right now, it's walk-in only. They tell you to seat yourself, but someone also helped seat us, so I'm still a little confused on the process. Of course it's their soft opening phase so totally understandable that they are trying to wrinkle out their kinks. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside -- super bright and well lit, and on a clear sunny day the view overlooking Lovers Point is honestly amazing. They also have a ton of seating, including long tables. We ordered the Burrito Ranchero with chorizo, the Monte Crema, a plain waffle with bacon, and the cinnamon roll. Portions are BIG. I couldn't even finish half the burrito. It was packed full and cooked really well. The Monte Crema was probably my favorite. The cheese was perfectly melted and the bread tasted almost French toast-like because the bread was dipped in an egg batter before cooking. So good. You get a choice between cold pasta salad or jalapeño chips, and we went with the pasta salad. Honestly the sandwich was flavorful enough that you didn't even need the side jam... but I dipped my bacon into it and accidentally created candied bacon. And the cinnamon roll... MASSIVE. Super caramelized with walnuts on top and soft in the middle. Their menu mentioned this is still a "soft opening" menu because they wanted to get operational ASAP, but honestly I already loved what they're offering and can't wait to see what else they add later on. My only small caveat was the suggested tip options on the receipt were 20%-30%, which felt a little extra to me. I totally understand times are hard and restaurant staff work incredibly hard, but 30% as a suggested tip caught me off guard a bit. Other than that, I'm really excited to see how this place grows. I can already tell it's going to be packed for weekend brunches, especially with that view. read more

Because that's insane. 30% is the lowest?? I will tip, but after already bad service seeing the only option for tip being 30% I am even more upset. Your options should start at ten % then go up. I think the tipping part is what threw me off the most. Wouldn't have written the review if it weren't for the ridiculous tipping policy. Edit after comment: We were never given a comment card at the end of we were we 100% would have just put it there. We are staying in town for a week and quickly got addicted to the coffee and pastries here. The pastries are all made in-house and are truly special. The cinnamon roll is to die for. The energy ball are also DELICIOUS. The carrot cake cookies are also a fav. Coffee is fantastic every time and the staff is friendly and engaging, and take a lot of care with each order.
