When it was my turn, the employee subjected my ID to significantly more scrutiny. She rubbed the card, examined it closely, and even used a small table lamp to inspect it. She then asked me to state the address on my ID. I had recently moved and had just received a new ID, so I wasn't certain which address was printed on it. I explained that I had recently moved and had multiple addresses. She then told our group to leave. I understand that a bar has the right to thoroughly check IDs and refuse entry if they have concerns about an ID. My concern was the significant difference in how my ID was handled compared with my two male friends' IDs and how the situation was handled afterward. When we were leaving, the employee put her hands on my husband's shoulders and lightly pushed/shoved him toward the exit. I also felt that I was being physically moved out rather than simply being asked to leave. The entire interaction felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I can't speak to the employee's intentions, but the difference in treatment was noticeable, and the physical contact while removing us from the establishment was particularly concerning. I hope management reviews what happened and ensures that customers are treated consistently and respectfully.

Bray performed solo with just his guitar and vocals, and what impressed me most was the incredible range of music he covered. His set moved effortlessly across decades and styles--from Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, and Lionel Richie to David Bowie, Simple Minds, Howard Jones, The Romantics, Georgia Satellites, and more. Some of my favorites included "Folsom Prison Blues," "As the World Falls Down," "You Spin Me Round," "No One Is to Blame," "Don't You (Forget About Me)," "Sundown," and a beautiful rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon." The warm, elegant atmosphere of the hotel lobby was a perfect setting for Bray's acoustic performance. He has a wonderful ability to take familiar songs and make them his own while still preserving what made us love them in the first place. What I particularly appreciate about Bray is his versatility. Whether he is performing with a full band or standing alone with a guitar, he knows how to read a room, connect with an audience, and create an atmosphere that makes you want to stay and listen. Another thoroughly enjoyable performance. Frankly, this is the kind of thing I'd expect to encounter at a Motel 6, not a premium Monterey hotel. I brought it to the front desk because I felt someone needed to know what was being left in the lobby. The employee was shocked and said it was horrible, but there wasn't much follow-up. I returned to my husband and baby, honestly relieved that I was the one who found it rather than a child. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, the staff we encountered were friendly, check-in and valet were quick, and the crib delivery was appreciated. The location itself nice, although the surprise two-elevator trip from our room to the lobby was inconvenient, especially with a stroller. I wish the layout had been clearer when booking, I didn't need an ocean view but I highly value convenience which is why I booked a Cannery Row hotel to begin with. The lobby incident is what I'll remember most. I would expect the hotel to staff to acknowledge such an atrocity a bit more. Monterey was wonderful for my first visit, and I'll absolutely return, but I'll probably be choosing a different hotel next time. Update: I brought up the incident again at checkout, and the front desk employee responded, "Oh yes, we were made aware of that." No further acknowledgment or explanation. We were then asked if we wanted to review our bill and informed that parking alone was $102. The casual response to such an inappropriate discovery in a public lobby, combined with the $400+ room rate and $102 parking fee, only reinforced my disappointment with this experience.
