The food was excellent. I was a little unsure at first, but I'm really glad I tried it. I got the milk and honey toast, and it was so good... like I'm actually sad it's an hour and a half away because I'd go back just for that. My husband had the avocado toast with two poached eggs, my daughter had the pancakes, and we also got fresh berries, grapefruit juice, orange juice, and hot chocolate. Everything was good, no complaints. Our server Claudia was really sweet, very patient, and knew the menu well which I appreciated. Joe, I think he was the manager, came over and talked to us and shared a little background about the food and the chef, which made it feel more personal. They mentioned the cook had been on Food Network and created that milk and honey toast, which made sense after tasting it. Overall just a really good experience, good food, good service, and I'd definitely go back.

It was very convenient for us and made perfect sense to stay on site while having a few cocktails! Our reservation was set for 7pm, hoping we could catch the sunset. Unfortunately it was a bit overcast, but we still had beautiful views nonetheless. There was a romantic elegance yet fun vibe in the restaurant. There was also soft live music playing which was very nice. We were seated by the windows overseeing the ocean and we were lucky enough to see a mama sea otter with her baby swimming around in front of us, which made it even more special! I ordered the South of the Border and my husband ordered the InterContinental Drift as our first round of drinks. Both drinks were unique and delicious. We each ordered Clam Chowder as our starter which was pretty tasty. My hubby ordered the Salmon and surprisingly enough I wasn't too hungry after having the soup, so I ordered an appetizer instead. I chose the Monterey Bay Calamari thinking it was a small portion, but it was the total opposite lol. It was a boatload of Calamari and so very good! We were both pleased with our food choices and ordered another round of drinks. I decide to order the Rested Plane this time which was refreshing. We had exceptional service and our waiter was very animated and fun. I'm so sad we didn't get a chance to have breakfast here, but totally recommend it for dinner. I do know they have a good happy hour menu that we missed too!

Our server was so friendly and helpful. We started with the Blue Cheese Steak Bites which are not to be missed. The bacon-wrapped blue cheese-stuffed hanger steak was so tender and packed a flavor punch. Our server highly recommended the pasta so I had the Pasta al Limone and added prawns. The portion was huge, it was extra saucy, and the prawns were perfectly cooked. My only complaint would be that the lemon peel appeared to be sliced into thin pieces rather than zested, which was a bit jarring, but I otherwise loved the dish.

We were a party of 11, so my daughter called ahead to make reservations for our group (5 adults and 6 children). They do have a kids menu and crayons and a coloring sheet of bay creatures to keep the younger ones in your party busy until the food comes. I got the Wedge Salad with Chicken. It includes a wedge of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese crumbles, bacon, tomatoes, and a HUGE amount of seriously tasty grilled chicken, all topped with ample blue cheese dressing ($28) and there was such a diversity of orders in our group that I cannot even remember everything ordered. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Prices are about what you expect for a sit down restaurant on Cannery Row in Monterey (high). Service was a bit uneven. We were seated right away because we did have reservations. However, our food did not all come out at the same time. The child sitting next to me did not get her pasta dish until everyone else was almost done with their meal. We had to ask to have our water glasses refilled. Some items that were requested when we placed our order came out too late to be consumed with the meal (example, requested pickles for a sandwich came out after the sandwich had already been consumed). Now for the challenges: There are no parking facilities near this restaurant (the hikes from parking garages and lots is quite far on unlevel terrain). The bathrooms are in the basement down some very steep stairs and there is no elevator for the mobility impaired. The layout of the kitchen in relationship to the entry to the resaurant, the kitchen, the stairway to the rest rooms and the dining areas is very awkward--leaving patrons with the feeling that as they enter or exit the dining areas or try to get to the bathrooms, they are in the way of servers bringing large trays of food from the kitchen.

We enjoyed their rooftop spa overlooking the bay- next level. The entrance to the hotel opens up to a beautiful first floor with ocean view, large fireplace, sofas and seating areas, and a small bar. The hotel offers a nightly happy hour and musical performances. During our visit we had the pleasure to discover a highly talented artist by the name of Adrea, who has the most incredible voice and presence. We were so impressed by her and were very fortunate that she performed both nights of our visit. It was a performance we would have gladly paid to see, she is a rising talent for sure. I can't state how exceptional our experience was to enjoy the music in such an elevated atmosphere, relaxing by the fire, enjoying the outstanding craft cocktails by their highly talented mixologist. Schooners is not to be missed, the food is as outstanding as the ocean view! A special mention to the superior customer care provided by Pracha, a guest service manager at the hotel, who is an absolute star. This was one of the best I've had. I like that it was more on the shredded side so it could cook evenly. (I hate when places halve the sprouts, but then don't bake it through. These were cooked to perfection here.) The crab dip was amazing...it's the morning after as I'm typing this and my daughter is still raving about the crab dip. We all agreed that it was worthy of the price tag bc there was a good amount of real crab in it. We really enjoyed the taste and texture. We wished there were more of the garlic bread for dipping! We waited for the clam chowder bread bowl to arrive, and tore into it so we could use that to dip! For our meal, we ordered the Harvest Salad, Organic Half Chicken, Honey BBQ Ribs, Wagyu Burger, and took a mandarin coconut sherbet to go. We were all very happy with what we ordered.

I got the Cioppino, wife got the Crab Pasta and the kids got Fish N Chips + Chicken Tenders. I was very surprised to see a generous amount of crab in my soup. At some places, you get a claw and check that box off but not here. In addition to the real crab, there was a few giant shrimp, mussels, clams, fish, and calamari. Man...everything was very fresh and delicious. I would even have to probably say the best I've ever had! The soup was seasoned to perfection and not too tart. My wife's crab pasta was also very good! I shared mine with her and we swapped for a bit just to sample other dishes here. The kids plates were also high quality as expected from this nice restaurant inside the Monterey Plaza Hotel. To make my bday weekend even better I was able to score a spot right in front of the hotel which isn't easy since it was a non-raining Saturday. This is definitely a "come back and eat" place the next time we're in Monterey.
