I was pleasantly surprised by this spot because coming from OC/LA, I had pretty high standards. The complimentary salsa and chips here are soooo good and the staff is very kind! It does get busy and there might be a wait, but it goes by fast. I had to get the duck burrito because it sounded so interesting and I've never seen it before! You can't miss the Roberto's sign when you drive into Mammoth due to the prominent location in the center of town and the people waiting outside. We had a short wait, which was pleasant due to amazing weather. Once we received the text our table was ready, we were sat in a nice section on the first floor. It was fairly loud thanks to the families with teens around us. Our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered a starter salad and asked for Italian Dressing. Not sure what we received as it was a spicy vinegar. Where it wasn't bad, it was overpowering even in a small amount. The rest of the salad was forgettable. The nachos, with added carne asada, were quite tasty though. Loaded with beans and cheese on thick and delicious chips. (The complimentary chips and salsa are very enjoyable as well.) Off the trail, my friends and I were hungry and craving some real food, so we stopped at Roberto's Cafe to refuel before our long drive home. I ordered the mixed fajitas with double beans instead of rice--no regrets! The meats were flavorful, the veggies were fresh, and everything together was delicious. My only complaint was the microwave-heated tortillas. Not my favorite, but honestly, the chips and salsa made up for it. The cafe itself is comfortable, casual, and perfect for an after-hike meal. The staff were generally friendly. We did ask if they could close the door leading to the patio because the wind was coming in and it was pretty cold. One staff member told us it wasn't possible, which was a little odd since, before we left, another staff member closed the same door behind him. Overall, Roberto's Cafe was a good stop for satisfying a Mexican food craving after a day on the trails. Good portions, tasty food, and a relaxed atmosphere. First time in Mammoth California and we were looking for something to eat for dinner since the ski resort doesn't have too many options. The drive down wasn't bad took about 15mins. We ordered the Juanita's salad, duck quesadilla, and a lobster burrito with Spanish rice and refried beans. I also got a virgin peach margarita and my fiancé got XX beer. The staff was very friendly and attentive as well. I don't know what some of the reviews are saying. The food we got were so delicious. The lobster burrito and the duck quesadilla were so flavorful. Ive never had one like this before. I honestly think the food Mexican food here is way better than whatever we have in Hawaii. It was very chill and the server would check in on us and made sure we were good. If you're in this area, I would definitely recommend you to come try their duck and lobster items. This is our second visit to Roberto's Cafe after our friend's introduced us to Roberto's last year. The food was just as delicious as our last visit. We walked in and were seated immediately upstairs in the bar area. Our server Anna greeted us and brought us water, chips and salsa. Anna was very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. The chips are delicious. You can tell they are home made. The salsa was super fresh and tasty as well. We ordered a dirty martini and a regular margarita. My husband really liked the margarita but something was off with the martini. Possibly too much vermouth or bad olive juice. I ordered the enchiladas rancheras. Two carne asada cheese enchiladas covered with sour cream sauce. Topped with guacamole, olives, and tomatoes served with rice and beans. $23.45. Really gooey delicious enchiladas. My husband ordered the polo asada burrito. Marinated chicken and refried beans wrapped in a flour tortilla, then covered with Roberto's sauce and cheese. Served with guacamole and sour cream - 18.95. Food portions are very generous. Indoor and outdoor seating. Bar on the second floor has many tvs for sports games. Staff is mostly friendly a few staff maybe should consider something not in the hospitality industry and also consider that Mammoth is a tourist destination and not be treated as if the customer is doing you a favor talking specifically about the male host who is the primary greeter. This place is the kind of Mexican restaurant you instantly fall in love with. The ambience is vibrant and very true to Mexican culture, with colorful murals and pictures that immediately lift your mood--just looking at the walls makes you feel happy. When we visited, it was snowing outside, and the view from the windows felt incredibly cute and dreamy, like something straight out of a fairytale movie. The food portions are extremely generous. I had a spinach quesadilla, and my husband had a burrito--both were very filling and satisfying. The in-house nachos with tomato salsa were so good, and everything felt fresh. We had a three minute drive back to our cabin and the cheese enchiladas and bean and cheese burrito's cheese were not melted. Everything was piled on top of the rice and beans and was lukewarm warm. We are not from Mammoth. We were just here visiting the week of October 19, 2025. We actually ate at Roberto's twice while we were here. Pretty acceptable Mexican food for such a tourist area. We miss everything about Roberto's! My favourite is Juanita's salad! Crispy lettuce add beans peppers cheese grilled chicken good to go!!

We had (1) chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and (2) carnitas burritos. They were both delicious. However I thought the chips were a bit too thick. I also think they could have done a better job with plating. The plates should have been wiped clean on the edges so it doesn't look so messy with the food in it. The salsa was good. Gomez's was too busy so we made the mistake of going to Roberto's. Average food. Even worse service.. We had a group of 11 people, 3 families. When we arrived the restaurant was fairly empty. Around 5:30. That should have been a clue.... When we requested them to put tables together they were so rude and acted like we were severely inconveniencing them. We're out to dinner with friends on vacation so excuse us for wanting to all sit together in your empty restaurant! When it was time to order I nicely asked if it was easier for the server to divide the checks by our 3 families as we ordered or wait until they brought us the bill. Server says neither could be done. Their "system" wouldn't allow it. It would be impossible.. So I said that was odd because I eat out at least 3 or 4 times a week and usually it's not a problem.. So I offer what I thought was a reasonable solution ... They seemed so put out that they had to put together 3 small tables for our group so I suggested entering the order as 3 separate tables .. Nope! Couldn't be done. Food wouldn't come out at the same time. I said we didn't mind that. I even pulled our table a little away from the other 2 and said ... Ok, now we're our own table.. Nope! Couldn't be done.. best they could do is put everything on one check and we'd have to figure out how to divide it up ourselves and they could run separate cards. Now here's the thing if you're reading this thinking I'm just whining and being unreasonable.... I'm giving them my business.. it ended up being over $300 of business for them. I own my own business so I know the value of customer service. If I make a reasonable request for something that is done all the time at other places and they flatly refuse and do that with attitude,,, that is a horrible customer service. They do realize they're in a service industry,right??. When they tell me that my request isn't possible thats a lie because I do it all the time. What they are really saying is that they don't WANT to do it or are refusing to try to figure out a way to accommodate our request. Normally I tell the server that if they can't figure out a way to fulfill my simple request and we have to do it ourselves I'll just deduct some from their tip since I have to do their job and it seems they don't want to be inconvenienced. But since we were a larger group they automatically hit us with a service charge. So instead, next time we'll take our large group to Gomez's which I hear is better and hope the servers are more friendly and more accommodating. read more

They were super flexible to make it work for us. Celeste was our server. She was kind and attentive. Portions were pretty large and the price was extremely reasonable considering the portions. While visiting mammoth, decided to go and have lunch with family. This restaurant is 40 years old and owned by the same family from day one. Met the owner, who was walking around bussing tables and checking in with the guests which I thought was pretty cool. The food portions are big, but also a little on the higher price though I believe firmly it's worth it. We ordered their chicken fajitas, steak fajitas, enchiladas plate. Everything was delicious. The albondigas were more of a stew consistency but I like it and it was very flavorful. The taco was a good size and very flavorful as well. My husband had the taco plate, I tried his beans and rice and they were both really good. I always say you will know if the restaurant is good but the taste of their salsa which was also good. Tried again tonight May 16th and again horrible service upstairs.
