Gomez's was too busy so we made the mistake of going to Roberto's. Average food. Even worse service.. We had a group of 11 people, 3 families. When we arrived the restaurant was fairly empty. Around 5:30. That should have been a clue.... When we requested them to put tables together they were so rude and acted like we were severely inconveniencing them. We're out to dinner with friends on vacation so excuse us for wanting to all sit together in your empty restaurant! When it was time to order I nicely asked if it was easier for the server to divide the checks by our 3 families as we ordered or wait until they brought us the bill. Server says neither could be done. Their "system" wouldn't allow it. It would be impossible.. So I said that was odd because I eat out at least 3 or 4 times a week and usually it's not a problem.. So I offer what I thought was a reasonable solution ... They seemed so put out that they had to put together 3 small tables for our group so I suggested entering the order as 3 separate tables .. Nope! Couldn't be done. Food wouldn't come out at the same time. I said we didn't mind that. I even pulled our table a little away from the other 2 and said ... Ok, now we're our own table.. Nope! Couldn't be done.. best they could do is put everything on one check and we'd have to figure out how to divide it up ourselves and they could run separate cards. Now here's the thing if you're reading this thinking I'm just whining and being unreasonable.... I'm giving them my business.. it ended up being over $300 of business for them. I own my own business so I know the value of customer service. If I make a reasonable request for something that is done all the time at other places and they flatly refuse and do that with attitude,,, that is a horrible customer service. They do realize they're in a service industry,right??. When they tell me that my request isn't possible thats a lie because I do it all the time. What they are really saying is that they don't WANT to do it or are refusing to try to figure out a way to accommodate our request. Normally I tell the server that if they can't figure out a way to fulfill my simple request and we have to do it ourselves I'll just deduct some from their tip since I have to do their job and it seems they don't want to be inconvenienced. But since we were a larger group they automatically hit us with a service charge. So instead, next time we'll take our large group to Gomez's which I hear is better and hope the servers are more friendly and more accommodating. read more

First time in Mammoth California and we were looking for something to eat for dinner since the ski resort doesn't have too many options. The drive down wasn't bad took about 15mins. We had a couple of options to pick from but thought to try this place. So glad we did. It felt very homey and the vibes were so nice. We ordered the Juanita's salad, duck quesadilla, and a lobster burrito with Spanish rice and refried beans. I also got a virgin peach margarita and my fiancé got XX beer. The staff was very friendly and attentive as well. I don't know what some of the reviews are saying. The food we got were so delicious. The lobster burrito and the duck quesadilla were so flavorful. Ive never had one like this before. I honestly think the food Mexican food here is way better than whatever we have in Hawaii. It was very chill and the server would check in on us and made sure we were good. If you're in this area, I would definitely recommend you to come try their duck and lobster items. Happy Hour here is from 2 PM-5PM and offers discounts on the TJ Margarita, the House wines such as the CK Mondovi and an assortment of other items that were too many for me to track when my sever told me about 'em! The vegetarian fajita burrito is delicious when made vegan (hold the cheese & sour cream). Don't forget to ask for jalapeños! See photo for the yummy insides of that fajita burrito!! They are huge. This is our second visit to Roberto's Cafe after our friend's introduced us to Roberto's last year. The food was just as delicious as our last visit. We walked in and were seated immediately upstairs in the bar area. Our server Anna greeted us and brought us water, chips and salsa. Anna was very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. The chips are delicious. You can tell they are home made. The salsa was super fresh and tasty as well. We ordered a dirty martini and a regular margarita. My husband really liked the margarita but something was off with the martini. Possibly too much vermouth or bad olive juice. I ordered the enchiladas rancheras. Two carne asada cheese enchiladas covered with sour cream sauce. Topped with guacamole, olives, and tomatoes served with rice and beans. $23.45. Really gooey delicious enchiladas. My husband ordered the polo asada burrito. Marinated chicken and refried beans wrapped in a flour tortilla, then covered with Roberto's sauce and cheese. Served with guacamole and sour cream - 18.95. Food portions are very generous. Indoor and outdoor seating. Bar on the second floor has many tvs for sports games. Staff is mostly friendly a few staff maybe should consider something not in the hospitality industry and also consider that Mammoth is a tourist destination and not be treated as if the customer is doing you a favor talking specifically about the male host who is the primary greeter. Happy hour specials are great. Bar drinks were good and strong! One negative for a Mexican restaurant maybe play some Spanish music in the background just saying. read more

Getting the attention of the workers can be hard, possibly because they are busy & understaffed? But the time between ordering & getting our foods on the table is pretty quick. I've been here quite a few times. Maybe like 5? And every time I think it's mid... UNTIL I FINALLY ORDERED THE DUCK BURRITO. Before, 3/5. Now? 5/5. Amazing. Grand. Fabulous. This place is the kind of Mexican restaurant you instantly fall in love with. The ambience is vibrant and very true to Mexican culture, with colorful murals and pictures that immediately lift your mood--just looking at the walls makes you feel happy. When we visited, it was snowing outside, and the view from the windows felt incredibly cute and dreamy, like something straight out of a fairytale movie. The food portions are extremely generous. Tried again tonight May 16th and again horrible service upstairs. The server and bartenders were reading a magazine and talking to each other our drinks were empty and so were the chips and salsa after waiting for over 25 minutes for someone to come over ( there were only 3 other tables ) I had to go up to our server and pay the bill. We are not from Mammoth. We were just here visiting the week of October 19, 2025. We actually ate at Roberto's twice while we were here. Pretty acceptable Mexican food for such a tourist area. Very mediocre food. We ordered and got the food immediately which was a little odd. Normally I'd be happy with fast service but this was too fast. And the way the food was plated it made sense. Looked like it was thrown together. My kid got the kids cheese enchilada, and it came completely sogged out swimming in sauce. He couldn't even find the enchilada. When he did it was totally soggy. Way too much sauce and cheese. Like a bowl of sauce with an enchilada somewhere in it. Husband got taquitos they were just ok. Not very fresh. I got the carnitas plate. Pretty tasteless. They should also clean up the meat some. It had all the fatty parts very oily and the rice was soggy maybe from the juice of the meat. Im originally from the Bay Area so I know quality carnitas, this wasn't it. We got a tropical margarita, but it tasted exactly like original. They also charge for using credit card. I also think they could have done a better job with plating. The plates should have been wiped clean on the edges so it doesn't look so messy with the food in it. The salsa was good. While visiting mammoth, decided to go and have lunch with family. This restaurant is 40 years old and owned by the same family from day one. Met the owner, who was walking around bussing tables and checking in with the guests which I thought was pretty cool. The food portions are big, but also a little on the higher price though I believe firmly it's worth it. We ordered their chicken fajitas, steak fajitas, enchiladas plate. Everything was delicious. The albondigas were more of a stew consistency but I like it and it was very flavorful. The taco was a good size and very flavorful as well. We have been going to Roberto's for over 15 years. It's a Mammoth staple! We went twice this most recent visit and ordered the Duck Burrito, Carne Asada Burrito, Baja Fish Taco, Carnitas, and Shrimp Tacos. Everything was delicious! The only complaint I have is for the carnitas and beans. Both are too salty for my taste and will avoid the carnitas in the future. Otherwise quality of food is great! Of course you're coming here you can't miss the margaritas! We tried the Spicy Mango Margarita and Tropical Margarita. Both were delicious but definitely needed an extra shot. We also tried Herra the Dog and La Bamba. Those were perfect. Make sure to try Roberto's if you haven't already! read more

We always go to Roberto's once while we are in town. I always get the same thing, cup of a abondigas soup, chicken taco, and a duck taco. That is my go to! My husband prefers the bowl of a abondigas soup and he got taquitos this time. He asked our server if he could have the taquitos made with carnitas. This place is huge with 2 stories of seating. They have a huge menu of mexican food. We got 2 orders of the Duck Burrito, and Enchiladas Suisas (chicken enchiladas w/ rice and beans). We were seated immediately. There's a good amount of parking here. We were instantly served with chips and salsa. It tasted so fresh and the salsa had the perfect amount of heat. The Duck Burrito was stuffed full of delicious duck and the sauce kept it from tasting dry. The avocado and sour cream were a great touch. I'm split on this review because the food was actually quite decent! However, extremely frustrated with ordering take out and an 18% service charge (tip) being added on to the order because it was a "larger order". There is a sign at the host stand that says "A service charge of 18% will be added to large groups and large TOGO orders" but DOESNT SPECIFY what constitutes a large to -go order. Which could be argued is a misleading business practice, violating California's consumer protection laws. The menu itself doesn't even notate the percentage added to the bill. It's incredibly vague which is disappointing to see a $26 charge added when we aren't even dining in. None of the meals had notated what they were on top, even though some were ordered with modifications which made it hard to know whose orders were whose. read more
