Lots of great choices for German cuisine such as Jaegar Schnitzel with all the sides as well as hearty protein such as Rack of Elk or Rack of Lamb. The ambiance is a cozy and intimate dark lit chalet downstairs of Austria Hof where we are staying. Great food and ambiance!

Came here in Mammoth craving something hearty, and this definitely hit the spot. The German food felt authentic and satisfying, especially after a long day outside. I ordered the Kassler Rippchen, and even though it was described more like a pork chop, it actually reminded me more of ham: smoky, tender, and really flavorful. The mashed potatoes were excellent too: creamy, well seasoned, and not just an afterthought on the plate. I had a Hofbräu Original with dinner, which paired perfectly. Service was good, and the atmosphere was cozy, especially since it's tucked underneath the hotel. Definitely a good Mammoth pick when you want a warm, comforting meal

We are staying in the Lodge and wanted to try the restaurant. 1st off a wonderful friendly staff ! I had a dirty gin martini to start .Nice ! Our friends said their drinks were ok . We had the lodging specials . The New England Clam chowder was nice and light - not to thick :) our friends salad was nice . I really liked Hungarian Goulash. My hunny had the Elk Chops. Superb! Our friends had the Chicken and Salmon and said it was ok .

4 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service, so I'm rounding up. We had a large party with kids, and they were extremely accommodating, even seating us early because the kids were cranky. We ordered a lot of different food and ate family style, which I recommend. The restaurant has an old school ski town vibe which was exactly what we were going for.

Four paws up for Austria Hof We grabbed seats at the bar for dinner and were welcomed right away. Cozy vibe, easygoing energy, exactly what we were after. The food was a hit: Hungarian beef goulash, Jägerschnitzel, and an apple strudel to finish. Comfort food done right. A fun, relaxed spot with great food. We'd happily come back.

Horrendously inedible connective tissue and tendons.

We've never been to this restaurant before and was looking for a very good dinner and was willing to pay for it. I had the "Premium" ribeye steak dinner (52) and Sassy had the rack of lamb (58). I asked what grade the premium ribeye was but couldn't get a good answer. Apparently it had the Premium size with the price but thats about it. It was cooked medium rare, exactly how I wanted it. But the chewy connective tissues and abundance of grissel kept me from giving 5 stars. Sassy's lamb was cooked very nice but the seasonings were off just enough to take off another star. Drinks were tasty though!

Ask the Community - Austria Hof Restaurant

Do you have a room in the restaurant that would accommodate a party of 20-30?

Yes but question is too vague. We can seat 80 in dining room.

Hello, are dogs allowed? we will be visiting with our dog and hope to bring her. if not, do you do…

    Is there a kids menu?

We sure do. We have children's steak, chicken tenders, a pasta, butter noodles, bratwurst, and a snitzel. Thanks , Joe

Can you make a reservation for bar seating?

You really don't need one during the summer. Just come on in! Joe

Your menu and prices are dated 2012. Any changes?

I think the copyright on the website might be 2012 but the menu prices should be pretty accurate. I'll check them though this week to be sure. Check back before coming to verify but I'm quite certain that they are fairly close.

Are you doing happy hour deals for takeout?

Sorry but our restaurant is closed due to covid

Are you open on thanksgiving day for take out?

We have every intention to be open, however please check with us as we get closer to the date. With covid so many uncertainties exist. Take out is not a problem provided were open. Thanks, Joe

I had specifically asked to substitute the rice, but it was still served -- and there was a hair in it, which is absolutely unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. The kids' burger was overcooked to the point of being dry like a cracker, and the fries looked and tasted like they were cooked in old, repeatedly used oil. This is unsafe and unacceptable, especially for children's food. The steak was ordered medium well, but was served well done -- completely overcooked. The chimichurri sauce was also misleading: instead of the classic green sauce, a red mixture was served that had nothing to do with it. The coleslaw was simply awful. Additionally, the staff showed no proper response -- we were not offered a replacement, a discount, or even a proper apology. This reflects a complete disregard for service standards and customer care. In its current state, this does not meet even basic restaurant standards.

We typically like sitting at the bar but bar seats were full so we opted for a table rather than wait. There are both high top and low top seating available as well as bar seating against the windows and fermentation silos. There is also seating outdoors if weather permits. The tables use a bar code scanning system to order food and drinks, then a person will deliver the food. I'm okay with this but I can see why some people would be frustrated with this process. For the appetizer we ordered the POBLANO ARTICHOKE DIP - $16 Artichoke, Poblano Chile, Corn, Cheddar, Colby Jack, Parmesan, Garlic, Mayonnaise, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese. Warmed and served with Pita bread or chips. We elected for the tortilla chips. This is a tasty appetizer and the perfect size for two people. For drinks we ordered two different hot cocktails served almost like a hot tea. Mulling it over - $17 Glass Creek Vodka, Mulled Spice Juice, Lemon. This was quite good and had a little bit of sweetness. The second was The Hot Toddy. $17. American Single Malt Whiskey, Lemon, Honey, Ginger. This tasted a little stronger and no sweetness. Do I think the drinks are a little expensive , yes. But sadly that is what you come across in a ski village. Personally I was a little shocked at how many families with young children were at the distillery but I've noticed that in almost every bar or brewery in Mammoth. Another good but different experience at Shelter Distilling.

Decided to still try out a couple of new spots to give Mammoth a chance and was pleasantly surprised by Mammoth Tavern. Stopped in on a Saturday night and were told that the wait would be about 30 to 40 minutes but were seated in about 10! I highly recommend waiting in their waiting area or downstairs for your table as they will come to find to if something opens up quicker. Everything we ordered was tasty. We were very hesitant to try the Asian sticky ribs but it actually ended up being really good. I can't remember what the vegetable dish (4th pic) was called but it was also very good if you got a bite with everything in it. It had sweet potato, beet, candied walnuts and pomegranate seeds! We also ordered some drinks. The curry drink (forgot the name) was surprisingly good despite the odd list of ingredients that went in. Their local black cherry soda was also very nice. Service is great and very helpful when it came to recommendations. The space is small and doesn't allow dogs which was a bummer but still a spot I would come back to try more of their seasonal items!

Super friendly, attentive, and took the time to walk us through the beer options while we already had our food picked out. Service like that makes a difference. We started with the mushroom soup (soup of the day). It was fully blended and smooth -- no big chunks -- and while it wasn't the most memorable soup ever, it definitely hit the spot after being out in the cold all day. The Oyster Rockefeller was the highlight. Perfectly done. The oysters tasted fresh, the spinach flavor came through nicely, and the crispy topping added the perfect crunch. I planned to have just one... ended up eating two. For the main, we ordered the steak medium well. It came out more charred on the outside than expected, so it wasn't amazing, but still solid. The fries were great though -- especially paired with beer. Overall, the food was good but not extraordinary. However, the service -- especially from Alonso -- really elevated the experience. Because of that, and the cozy post-snowboard vibe, this earns 5 stars.

We arrived and were greeted warmly by our host and seated at a table in front of the fireplace. The restaurant is very small and cozy. Our server took our drink orders and brought out a bread basket. We all ordered the following: - Soup of the day (loaded baked potato) - short rib fries - oven roasted Frenched chicken breast - chicken Parmesan - pan seared chinook salmon - shrimp scampi There was a small hiccup when my 10-year-old son noticed another table had been served chicken tenders and fries. We weren't offered a kids' menu, so he had ordered chicken Parmesan from the regular menu. Not a huge issue, but it would have been nice to know kid-friendly options were available. Unfortunately, service timing became more of a problem toward the end of the meal. After we had mostly finished eating, our server asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. We said yes, and I gently reminded her we were celebrating a birthday. When she returned, she brought a complimentary birthday dessert with a candle (very thoughtful gesture!) but our dinner plates, empty glasses, and general table clutter were still in front of us. We also still hadn't seen the dessert menu we'd asked for, which made the moment feel rushed and a bit awkward. Needless to say, our server seemed to catch on that I was disappointed in the service towards the end of our meal. It seemed like she was the only server on the floor, too, which probably explained the lack of attentiveness and timing issues. Overall, the food was alright and everyone enjoyed their meals. It was an okay dining experience but the service could definitely use some improvement. For a restaurant with higher menu prices and a more upscale presentation (linen napkins, cozy ambiance, etc.), the level of service didn't quite match my expectations. I would still return as it could've just been an "off" night and their martinis were great!

We tried to snag a late New Year's Eve reservation and struck out, but the staff was super accommodating and fit us in on a following night. Very glad they did. The space itself is small, cozy, and intimate in the best way. It feels warm and inviting, especially after a long day in the cold, and sets the tone for a relaxed, linger-over-wine kind of dinner. The food was excellent across the board. We ordered elk, cod, and scallops and the scallops were the clear mic drop. Perfectly cooked, rich, and memorable. Our server recommended a bottle of wine that paired beautifully with everything and felt like someone actually listened instead of just pointing at the most expensive option. Service all around was warm, attentive, and unpretentious, which is not always a given in resort towns. Dessert was sorbet, simple but refreshing, and my girlfriend ordered a port she really enjoyed. After dinner we took the rest of the wine, grabbed a seat by the fireplace, and played chess, which felt like the most civilized way possible to end a night in the snow. Logistics wise, getting here can be a little annoying, especially if you are staying up at Mammoth Mountain Inn. You will want to call a taxi and plan ahead. That said, the extra effort was completely worth it. This was our first time staying for the weekend at the lodge, and we were genuinely excited about the experience. On our second night we decided to have a special dinner at the Lakefront Restaurant, which we had been looking forward to. Unfortunately, the meal was very disappointing--especially given the price point. Our starter salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, the lamb starter was undercooked, and while the scallops were very good, $8 per scallop felt excessive. The beef Wellington, which we were particularly excited about, was bland and the pastry was doughy. For a dinner that totaled over $300 for two people, we expected a much higher level of quality and creativity. Compared to our previous visits, the food felt like it had gone noticeably downhill. It's genuinely sad to write this because we've always loved coming here. Sadly, this experience left us feeling disappointed enough that we likely won't return.
