Wandering around The Village and looking for a spot to eat, that was open, and ended up here when we saw the offered food. The food was really good! We had tacos, which was on puffy naan like bread, pizza, and the tostada. We were super pleasantly surprised on how tasty all the food was. We have always passed this place when we were in the area but never went in. Came into town for a quick meal and decided to stop by and glad we did. As you enter you are greeted by someone and then it's open seating and you basically scan the QR code and order thru your phone and pay as well it's easy and convenient. We had their Beet Salad and their Pizza along with their Pork Belly taco and every bite was satisfying and full of flavor. The salad was the win for me I love a good beet salad, the dressing it was tossed in was just perfection along with the goat cheese. For their drinks I had a Beet infused drink and well it was different but just worked and was strong & also tried a local beer. You order your food and then a server just comes and drops off and if you need anything you just look their way and they help out. The servers were very friendly the ones bringing out the food, it was kind of a bummer toward the end, I always say the staff make the visit enjoyable or not and that can def hinder people from coming back. A simple question was asked about the merch and the answer was just rude.. there was a Main lady by the register and she just didn't have the friendliest vibe or smile at all. Came here our first night for dinner, Glad to see some vegan friendly options! Seating is self serve and order via QR code at the tables. We started with the maple whiskey sour and polar berries and the hummus plate, the basil hummus was my favorite. Its not fair to not give 5 stars because of the hardworking employees and quality of food that they offer in Mammoth but ill be very honest before I start talking about food... This place is very too busy and its better to try to get a table before walking. We were lucky to get a table because a family were finished when we arrived but they were so many people with small kids waiting for long. The other thing, they were overstaffed and their menu was a barcode that we were supposed to scan but the problem was it wasnt detailed menu! For example, we didnt know if the burger comes with potatoes or steak sandwich how it'll be cooked! Or the beer, most of the items were out they only had two flavor and all fruity! So it was hard to fond someone to ask questions. Waiting time was so long and the food didn't come together! Ambiance is chill distilling one but the busy one and we were here in mid week and not in any events/ or christmas or etc...But still it was busy and getting table on time is 50/50. About food, the salmon glaze was so delicious and didnt taste frozen...The veggies were beautifully marinated...It wasnt a big portion and it was about$30. This is our second visit to Shelter Distilling in the last year. We just stopped in for an appetizer and drink. We typically like sitting at the bar but bar seats were full so we opted for a table rather than wait. There are both high top and low top seating available as well as bar seating against the windows and fermentation silos. There is also seating outdoors if weather permits. The tables use a bar code scanning system to order food and drinks, then a person will deliver the food. I'm okay with this but I can see why some people would be frustrated with this process. For the appetizer we ordered the POBLANO ARTICHOKE DIP - $16 Artichoke, Poblano Chile, Corn, Cheddar, Colby Jack, Parmesan, Garlic, Mayonnaise, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese. Warmed and served with Pita bread or chips. We elected for the tortilla chips. This is a tasty appetizer and the perfect size for two people. For drinks we ordered two different hot cocktails served almost like a hot tea. Mulling it over - $17 Glass Creek Vodka, Mulled Spice Juice, Lemon. This was quite good and had a little bit of sweetness. The second was The Hot Toddy. $17. American Single Malt Whiskey, Lemon, Honey, Ginger. This tasted a little stronger and no sweetness. Do I think the drinks are a little expensive , yes. But sadly that is what you come across in a ski village. Personally I was a little shocked at how many families with young children were at the distillery but I've noticed that in almost every bar or brewery in Mammoth. We visited Shelter Distilling for dinner and found it very busy. Seating was self-serve and we were able to snag a table just as another party was leaving. The vibe inside was industrial but still cozy, with a large chandelier and nice live music. We ordered right from the table (Toast QR Code), which was convenient. All three of us got Hot Chocolates to warm up, which were actually delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made whipped cream. For food, we shared an order of Fried Cheese Curds, which were awesome. I wish they had come with ranch too, not just ketchup. I was starving, so I ordered both the Beet Salad and Spicy Tuna Hand-roll. Both were just fine. The beets were the best part of the salad, but it wasn't anything memorable. The Hand-roll was filling, but they went pretty heavy on the spicy mayo. My friends also said their food was good, but nothing mind-blowing. I can't believe all of these 1 and 2 star reviews. We have been to shelter at least 9 times over the last 3 years and been very happy with each visit. The drinks are expensive but always top shelf. The food has improved immensely over the last two years both in options and quality. Yes you have to find your own seat (we have had to give up and eat elsewhere on a couple of occasions). Yes you have to get your own water. You can order food and drinks from the cashier but we find it much easier and more convenient to order from our phones--thus avoiding the line, getting our food much quicker and able to leave when we want without trying to find a waiter. Yes the phone order system encourages a tip before you even see the efficiency of the service (I'm not a fan of this but the pluses far out way this negative). Other than a sushi bar, where else can you order items 6 times in a night and have each item brought out in 5-10 minutes--no cold food--no over crowded table--no ordering too much or too little. The app will even tell you when your drink or food is ready in case the server is late with the delivery (not a problem in our experiences). Their system is their system and if you don't like it, then shelter is not for you. There are plenty of sit down traditional table service options in mammoth but I recommend getting a reservation. The food: Excellent: artichoke dip, tempura shrimp (?not on menu anymore), beet salad (enough for 4 to share), burger, seared ahi (very large portion), poke tostada, pretzel; Very Good: Fish Taco, philly taco, sweet potato taco, shishito peppers; Fair: shrimp taco, ckn taco. Poor: volcano roll (too much rice and "fishy scallops), spicy tuna hand roll (consistency of the spicy tuna was mush). We had the BEST meal of our 5-day Mammoth family trip here! Everything tasted hand-made and fresh. Super impressed with our dinner last night. My daughter and I had the shrimp tempura rolls and they were out-of-this world fresh and delicious. My son had the buffalo chicken ciabatta sandwich / it was fresh and incredible too. Husband had 3 different tacos and they were totally legit! ​My primary issue with this establishment occurs before you even receive your meal: the digital ordering system demands a gratuity upfront. Expecting customers to tip before they have evaluated the service or even laid eyes on their food is a highly objectionable business practice. This policy is especially frustrating when the subsequent service and food quality fail to justify that forced investment. As out-of-town visitors, we found the pub completely unaccommodating. There were zero instructions on how to order, making it feel exclusively geared toward locals who already know the routine. We had to flag down a staff member wiping tables outside just to learn we needed to scan a QR code. The service we received after being forced to tip was incredibly disappointing. Our beet salad arrived first, but the runner dropped it off and vanished so quickly that we couldn't ask for a second silverware setting. Since we intended to share the salad, we had to wait. The salmon plate didn't arrive until roughly 15 minutes later. When we finally managed to ask our waiter for the extra silverware, he treated a basic hospitality request as a major inconvenience. Getting a simple fork felt like pulling teeth. The value for the price is simply not there. The grilled salmon plate was remarkably small--well under three ounces of fish. To make matters worse, the accompanying vegetables consisted of literally three skinny asparagus spears and two even thinner carrots. Between the aggressive upfront tipping, the small portion fish size, and the dismissive attitude of the staff, this establishment has massive room for improvement. Place is your typical gastropub brewery set up with tons of tables and spacious seating. I liked the food, just found it to be expensive for literally no reason. Also I HAAAAAATE that you can order whatever on the menu and it will cancel items for you (after you confirmed the order) without notice. My families dinner came out but my partner was missing their dish. I was able to flag someone down and asked about it and their lousy response was "oh the online order came through but we cancelled the French dip because we sold out". Atmosphere: 5/5 - This distillery was a great place to go after a long day of snowboarding. It's conveniently located at one of the lodges near our stay, and had plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating. Service: 5/5 - They had a QR code on the table where you can order your food. I really liked this feature because it was user-friendly and efficient. Upon ordering, the food came relatively quick thereafter. Food: 4/5 - I got the seared ahi dish which was good. I wish it came with some sort of nuts or wonton chips to give it a crunch. The seared ahi was seasoned with zesty sesame sauce which tasted great, but it was a bit overpowering after a few bites. I loved that it came with avocados and that the portion was big. It was a filling, delicious, refreshing meal. I recommend checking this place out if you are in Mammoth. But (and this is my gripe with so many restaurants fwiw) why are there no fruit or veggie options for the kids? It's always burger and fries, pasta and chicken, hot dog and tots. My husband and I just finished dinner here, our last night in Mammoth. We're staying in the Village so it's super convenient. I read the reviews and was a little apprehensive (I am a foodie and take my dining experiences very seriously lol), but am SO GLAD we went anyway. We ordered the ahi salad, two pork belly tacos (the bartender suggested that we go extra crispy and it was a fantastic suggestion) and a sweet potato taco. My husband got an old-fashioned and I had soda water. Just like some of the other local restaurants, you order via the QR code, different than I'm used to, but that's the way they do it and it's totally fine and easy to navigate. Prices were totally reasonable especially for the quality. The food was absolutely amazing, literally every bite was delish. Beautiful place where you seat yourself and they give you a QR code and you order through the toast app. No server, just food runners. So if you want a night out and great service this is not your spot. But drinks in a loud environment with solid food, this is your jam. For appetizers we started with the Serrano and artichoke dip. I loved the Serrano which cut through the richness. We also had the hummus trio which was a huge amount of hummus, I especially loved the pesto flavor. They barely give you enough pita so you have half the hummus left on the plate when you run out of things to dip into it. For the mains I had a sad shrimp taco and a chewy carne asada taco. Being from SoCal and eating good Mexican all the time, I would skip these. The Ahi salad was excellent! And so was the Beet Salad with goat cheese. I agree with the recent negative reviews on here. This establishment is extremely unwelcoming. You walk in and up to the register to order, and you're faced with the cashier who was just doesn't want to be hospitable. There was no hello, just a dead stare of 'what do you want. We asked about their beer offerings and they only had IPAs available. Her response was more of a chore. The tonality and the attitude just made us want to leave on the spot. We pushed on and ordered a margarita pizza.You're then faced with an iPad with an aggressive tip. We haven't seen the food, service was already poor, and you're asking us to shell out more money? We sat at our table for about 30 minutes by the door. In that time, I saw at least 2 parties ask about their food. The party next to us received 1 of 2 items they ordered. They tried waiting for other entree to come, but the other person just said to go ahead and eat before the food gets cold. Another 10-15 min passed, and they went up and asked where their food was. The other party just plainly never received their food, but the party who arrived after them did. After about 35 minutes of waiting, we asked someone to check on our pizza. The waiter never came back. so we were forced to go back to the unwelcoming cashier. We asked about the pizza, and she said it takes about 45 minutes. I think that would have been nice information to give in advance, don't you think? For the most part, we don't mind waiting for food. But the unwelcoming service, and the hostility she had towards us, we just weren't going to put up with it. We just said if it hasn't started (and it hasn't), we'd just like to cancel it. I'm giving this place a 2/5 stars because our server had such poor customer service. We were super nice + patient waiting for our food but he just did not look like he wanted to help us ... but was SUPER friendly with the customers all around us since he was serving them too. It really felt like he was treating us differently because we were all Asian. While he barely acknowledged our table, he was noticeably warm and attentive to the other customers around us, who were not Asian. We asked for a to-go box and had to chase him down since he barely helped our table/came by. Once he brought the to-go boxes he kinda shoved it to me instead of handing it to me normally -- which caught me off guard. I wouldn't come back because I was super disappointed with the service. The name Shelter evokes a warm, welcoming space. You've come home. Well, change your expectations here. It's the least personal space besides Taco Bell that I've been to. Like Taco Bell, you pay in advance. Unlike Taco Bell, you are expected to leave a tip (for service), before you realize you will receive no service. Choose your own seating, call up the QR code (which asks you to enter your phone number, but you can work around that) and then gives you a sterile list for a menu. It's a distillery, but do not talk to the bartender. Order a margarita from the (surprisingly inexpensive) Taco Tuesday menu and it comes with a hard, dried citrus something floating on top that adds nothing to the experience of the drink (but does eliminate the need for the bartender to keep a fresh supply of citrus on hand). Otherwise, the margarita tastes OK. Not great. Your beet salad will not be "dressed" because that would take effort. Instead the dressing will be drizzled across the top and not even really touch the greens. Your burger will probably be tasty, as my husband's was. Your sweet potato taco will probably have too many raw onions across the top but otherwise be tasty as mine was. You will not interact with anyone other than your table companions. Even with his tasty burger, my husband called it a "soulless experience." Because the food itself seems to be decently cooked (though with minimal effort), this may be your spot if you are good with Taco Bell. read more

Just walked past us multiple times. All 3 of them. I get it you get busy etc but this was awful. We couldn't even cancel our QR order because it was sitting in the girls hand for 10 mins taking ordered for other customers. Teach your bartenders to help the people sitting at the counter. Terrible service here. You have to walk inn and seat yourself. You have to also go and get your own water from the bar and also have to scan the barcode and submit your own order. Immediately they ask for a tip while you're submitting your order. I was going to tip cash and submitted my order tip under $0. I was in a party of 5 and everyone's food got brought out asap. Mine was delayed and I had to go talk to the bartender on my order status. They went in the back and immediately brought my food out. The food runner was rude and would not respond to me. Terrible service. I went here a year before and had great experience. I don't know what happened but I don't recommend coming here if you're visiting mammoth. read more

Shelter Distilling is such a vibe located in the heart of the Mammoth Village. We stopped in for some lunch snacks and a drink. The service here is similar to many places in Mammoth. You have to order using a QR code or at the bar and they bring the food to your table. It's not the best way of ordering in my opinion, but it's how it goes. Shelter makes their own spirits and beer. I tried the lager which was good. I liked that they served their beer straight out of the fermentation tanks. The pretzel sticks were good, and the mustard dipping sauce was the best. The cheese sauce was a bit underdeveloped. The pork belly tacos were great. Pork was cooked well but I did think they needed a better sauce. Overall, the food and the vibe at Shelter make up for the weird ordering and my small nitpicks. I would recommend Shelter Distilling as the best dining option in Mammoth Village. read more
