It's a halfsies for me. This establishment has had many iterations. Pluses are- a new great menu and vibe. Some of the wait staff has been great and apologetic when it's chaotic. Others completely fail and don't seem to care. Minuses are- Often long waits for service at tables and one of the dark haired bartenders makes you feel awkward for even trying to go get a drink. Nice open restaurant, bar, a few TV's and a rec room with a pool table and arcade games. Just one bathroom that was pretty dirty but when we came, kids kept running in and out. Super yummy meal all around. Everything was good & reasonably priced for what you were getting. They were able to take our large party last minute very quickly & our waitress was efficient. The beers they recommended were also delicious, and what's best it was supporting local breweries. The staff was pretty friendly and accommodating. I wandered by here on my way back to my condo across the street. I hadn't been here since it was Rafters. Bar Sierra opened 1.5 years ago and the inside appeared unchanged from the previous restaurant. They have Trivia Night on Thursday's starting at 7pm. It's free and hosted by a fun guy named Maurice. There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd! A fun thing to do on a Thursday evening. They have other entertainment on the weekends. There is also a side room with a variety of arcade games. There are 16 local beers on tap. We didn't eat, but it's a simple one page menu featuring BBQ. The central fireplace makes for a cozy setting for an evening. We will be back to check out the restaurant, despite its varied reviews on Yelp. If anything, it's a fun, warm place to have a few drinks in the evening! read more

This review is for a server that felt she needed to make a presence not the actual GREAT server we had. I truly wish this review could be different, because Bar Sierra has a fun atmosphere and the food itself has always been decent. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was overshadowed by one staff member who made the experience genuinely unpleasant from start to finish. There is a particular waitress--older, very skinny, wearing obvious fake glasses--who never gives her name and seems to go out of her way to make guests feel unwelcome. The moment we were seated, she acted annoyed, and before we even had a chance to order, she came by and removed the menus from our table without a word. She never checked on us, never came around to take orders, and when we eventually had to go up to the bar to order our own drinks and food, she rolled her eyes at us as if we were inconveniencing her. It didn't stop there. At one point, she openly talked negatively about our party within earshot of others--completely unprofessional and honestly shocking for any restaurant, let alone a place in Mammoth where hospitality is usually top-notch. This wasn't a one-time moment of stress or a busy-night slip. Her attitude was consistently rude, dismissive, and disrespectful. It's disappointing and honestly embarrassing behavior for a place that should be focused on creating a welcoming environment for visitors. I hope management takes this seriously, because Bar Sierra could be a great stop--but as long as this staff member continues treating customers this way, it's impossible to recommend the experience. read more

I'm so happy to see my favorite Chef back running this place! The food is always amazing.... Salads, apps and mains, you can't choose wrong. Don't be put off by previous reviews. This is a gem to visit. It may not get the traffic as it's not on the "main drag" but it's actually in the real village a few blocks off Canyon Blvd. Some may think because it's part of Outbound resorts is not open to others. It's is open and wonderful. We went Friday and it was so nice we went back Saturday. Staff ( Will) ( boundless energy and infectious personality) on Friday was the reason we returned. Server ( Iaona) on Saturday was great. Service, food and drinks were perfect. Fireplace was perfectly placed and comforting. Both nights allowed table conversation in a normal volume. This restaurant/bar is part of the Outbound Hotels. So you can park in their parking lot. Walking in, the restaurant is room with a big bar and a big fireplace in the middle of the room. There's also an arcade room off to the side. Didn't really check out what games they had or how big it was. Their menu just changed so there are no bbq items. Mostly burgers, salads and some sides. I was very disappointed to find this out as I was looking forward to having some bbq. But I'm guessing this is their winter menu and probably can't really do bbq in this type of weather. The service here was not the greatest as it was hard to flag down someone to take our order or get refills. They are definitely under staffed and it being President's weekend, they really could have used the added staff support. Their drinks are just ok. Nothing to write home about. I decided to order the Ponderosa burger. It came with fries and 2 onion rings with bbq sauce. The burger was not good at all. I did not taste the bbq sauce. It tasted more like ketchup to be honest. The burger was dry and overcooked. It came with 2 patties and looked like a failed attempt at being a smash burger. The only thing good about this dish was the fries. It was nice and crispy. I wouldn't come here for the food, but if I wanted to come for a cold beer or just to hang out, then I would definitely be back. read more

Super confusing set up and not really dog friendly. Came with a party of 5 and a dog. We just stood there really confused and I had to go ask about how it worked. A redhead curtly told us that dogs were only allowed outside but they didn't serve food outside. So I put my dog in the car and walked in but no one even looked at us. So I went up to the bar and asked if we should seat ourselves and they said yes. There was another rude waitress in the mix too. While seated we watched another couple come in and someone actually acknowledged their presence. So that juxtaposition was interesting. When we got the menu it turns out they didn't have any bbq so bamboozled there. We ended up ordering 3 burgers, a spinach strawberry salad, and a steak. Then we proceeded to wait 45 mins. During which time we watched one of the two rude waitresses take two burgers to people outside - so I guess they do serve food outside if you pass some unknown test. The couple that was also directed quickly was able to have their burrito in that time. After 30 minutes the mananger(?) came by to tell us they were swamped. After 45 minutes we decided we were done waiting and just got up and left. The mananger(?) was really nice but he was the only one. Overall, I wish I hadn't made my family waste our time there. Stopped by this place for dinner after hearing about it from the hotel staff next door, Outbound Mammoth (fka- Sierra Nevada Resort). Upon entering there is a huge fireplace in the center of the room that divides the bar area from the dining area. Very cool country cabin vibe inside. We ordered at the counter a 2 meat and 2 sides platter. Both meats were Brisket with a side of Mac-n-cheese and coleslaw. Also ordered corn bread to try as well. Brisket was good but seemed old like it was sitting too long under a lamp. Coleslaw was surprisingly good. Mac-n-cheese was very good! Pasta cooked perfectly and cheese was amazing. Cornbread was not bad but not great. Portions filled us both up and could not fit anything more. In a side room they had some old school arcade games like Digdug, Simpsons and Frogger! Tempest was unfortunately not working. I would definitely like to come back and try the brisket again when they first open. read more

The bartender made a point of not acknowledging a women waiting in front of him for 10 minutes, I do not know what bothered him but kept on loading and unloading the dishwasher when a customer is just there apparently waiting to be served. . I understand your obsession with the glasses but maybe say "give me second" or " I will be right with you"??? And the real kicker was when he actually spoke. I felt like I was a little annoying insect bothering him. Asked how I could get quarters to feed the pool machine and he was not helpful at all to the point of saying just get out of my face. I felt horrible. Finally got the quarters and went to the machine to feed the machine that was swarmed by a bunch of people playing on our money. The manager -I think- initially wanted help by returning the quarters but could not land thr "managing". We were next, had been waiting a while. I gave up and said to the manager we were waiting a while and it was a mountain climb to get the quarters from the bar tender to which the manager responded by saying " he is busy" no sorry, no nothing. Long time Mammoth residents and we don't leave negative reviews lightly, but this restaurant is a disaster. It feels like it's run by a bunch of amateurs who just learned how to cook, and not very well. The brisket was not brisket. Calling it beef jerky would be generous. The smoked chicken is boneless breast and had no moisture, tenderness or flavor. I could hardly get one bite down without feeling like it would get stuck, that's how dry it was. We were seated quickly but customer service was slow even though they are nice and always apologetic (hence the second star). I just don't see how this place can survive unless they bring in some pros. The food scene in Mammoth deserves better than this. read more
