Check them out if you need to make a pit stop there. 360 degrees view with snowy mountains. Restrooms on the same deck, very convenient . Head to beat for a rest and fill-up while enjoying your ski day in the back mountain.

My recommendation is to get the grilled cheese sandwiches. Any one is good, and they are huge. Or, you can get a combo with soup or chili for an extra $6. The soup, by itself, isn't worth it. But the chili could be a meal. There is also Boundry Bar at the same site that has a lot of decent beers. They only had a milk stout on tap when I was there (which was fine by me), but they have quite a few canned beers and were going to increase their taps on the weekend. Probably the most interesting and reasonable of the on mountain eateries. Still, it can easily set you back $20 for soup and sandwich. I recommend.

The Melt House is definitely still open at Mammoth Mountain Resort. I went over the weekend and the lines were long for these grilled cheeses, rightfully so because the options sounded delicious. I ordered the Goat Cheese grilled cheese sandwich and it was supposed to come with smoked salmon, capers, fennel salsa, and lemon spread. The salmon was lacking, it would have been better with 1-2 more slices to at least cover the width of the bread (it literally came with 2 little pieces as shown in my photo). I don't think there was fennel salsa either, but I understand that with a long line of customers and dwindling ingredients they would have to cut some corners. At $13.50 this was a little mediocre but hefty enough to satiate me for the rest of my snowboarding session. This was definitely more on the fancier side of the fine dining at Mammoth Mountain Resort, will come back to try the Mozzarella and hopefully it'll be made with a little more TLC next time read more

On our first trip to Mammoth I wanted to try the Melt House because it had multiple vegetarian option. For a restaurant on a ski mountain this is one of the best I have seen. It's definitely better than the current three star review but it's obviously not a place many people think to check in and review. There is cornnhole and cool areas with fireplaces to refresh for a bit. The heirloom tomato grilled cheese and roasted tomato bisque were good options and the prices were not too expensive being on a ski hill. I definitely recommend the Melt House if you happen to be in the area. I can't compare it to any other restaurants so I am not sure if it is worth going out of your way for. There is also a bar on the same deck. It's very convenient as you could stop for only 15 minutes or so if you wanted to! read more

This used to be the best food on the mountain. It was our go to spot. However they made one little change that has ruined it. The bread. The soup is still great so if that is all you want then you should go there, but if you are a fan of the grilled cheese or combos don't bother. They used to have quality bread that was exactly the right choice for a melt. Now they have switched to something you would get at 7 eleven. The sandwiches are now a soggy mess that are not worth 1% of what they charge for them. In fact you would have to pay me to eat that again! I am so disappointed because I used to love this place. I will check back to see if they improve things at some point but for now I will find my meals elsewhere. read more

Backside of the mountain with an awesome view. Easiest way to get here is by taking Chair 12 and going down the back route until the bottom of Chair 13/14. The deck has a large amount of seating and good standing area with good music vibes. The food is good for what it is. A bit on the pricey side, but it's Mammoth. I got the gouda grilled cheese with tomato bisque combo. The sandwich had good flavor and dipped in tomato bisque it was very comforting. The gouda wasn't melted which is counter intuitive to this place being the "melt house", but it worked. If you want an actual grill cheese sandwich, then get that and not one with hard cheese. read more

I was really excited to try this place. I ordered the Gouda grilled cheese sandwich. When I cut it open the cheese wasn't melted. I asked if they could put it back on the to melt the cheese and was informed the cheese doesn't melt...at a place called the melt house. For a $12 dollar sandwich I was really disappointed. read more

Talk about the spot to hit on the slopes! Melt house was the perfect lunch spot to hit with the crew for a mid day lunch break. The grilled cheeses were super cheesy and hit the spot. The melt house had a variety of drinks to choose from to wash them down. Service was impeccable, the guys working there were extremely friendly! Finally, this base area wasn't overly crowded so we were able to easily find seating. Love the melt house! read more

Others completely fail and don't seem to care. Minuses are- Often long waits for service at tables and one of the dark haired bartenders makes you feel awkward for even trying to go get a drink. We hardly saw our server. She came once to take our order, someone else brought our drinks and food, then that was it. All other tables, including next to us, had their servers checked in on them. Ours disappeared. There were only 8 other tables filled up. After finishing our food and drinks, another server came up to us to ask if we needed anything else. This took another 10-15 minutes for the check to arrive...from our original server. The bill came out to $99.44. We left a $15 tip. We probably should have just left the tip blank due to the poor service and not knowing the trouble this would cause. A few days later, a $1,599.44 bill posted to my credit card. Yes, over a thousand dollars charged for a $100 meal. They took the $15 tip as a $1500 tip. I don't even know how someone could make that mistake since we only wrote $15 in the tip line. The service certainly does not deserve a $1000 tip. I still have the original receipt and we only signed for $114.44 marked in the total. How that was changed to $1,599.44 is just bonkers and just plain robbery. Now I have to dispute this with Chase. So save those receipts, and watch out for this business.
