Prime rib
Ty T.

My buddy and I had The Mogul on our first night skiing in Mammoth this past season. I would never denigrate this excellent restaurant by comparing it to wannabe joints like Tahoe Joe's but only to say that The Mogul is what TJ's tries to emulate. But this place is the real deal and authentic Sierra dining. The staff are incredibly kind and friendly. Their menu is straight-forward and simple to navigate without too many options: These are the best kinds of restaurants. I went with their famous prime rib and even scored the last end-cut of the night. It was nicely seasoned and expertly cooked. My friend got the elk - one of the specials that evening. It was equally tasty. The blackberry pie for dessert rounded off an excellent meal. Looking forward to my next Mammoth ski trip and dining here after a long day on the slopes.

The mogul was decent! Not as fine dining as I think we were originally lookin for, but the food was great and the experience was just as good. I had the prime rib which was delicious as well as some scallops and other steaks served at the table. Our waiter was very good and attentive, even if he spilled a bit of our $300 champagne. No harm no foul. If you're lookin for upscale, this isn't necessarily the place. Mogul has more of a "under the radar steakhouse" feel to it, with Americana vibes.

Mogul's is a true classic gem in Mammoth lakes! Taylor and David provided a very warm welcoming family vibe. We both had the elk which was on special and so tasty and tender. The artichoke appetizer was very delicious. So glad I chose this place, will come back next season.

We went here 4 years ago when I proposed to my wife and now we're back for my birthday. Negatives: -price; the prices are a little higher, but the portions are good and the food is amazing. Positives: -taste; we got the elk chop special and the pork chop. The elk chops were amazingly tender and barely gamey. The only time I had elk was elk jerky, so this was definitely a first for me. I'm glad I gave it a try because it was one of the best cuts of meat that I've ever had. My wife's pork chop was really good too, it was very tasty and moist. -service; our server David was very friendly, responsive, and he made sure we were completely satisfied. -ambiance; it was like a cabin homey and a place you'll want to be to hide from the cold. Overall 5/5 They gave me a sundae for my birthday and sang too. I left 100% satisfied and based on this time I would definitely return earlier than 4 years next time

We chose to come here for dinner purely due to the location. This was literally across the street from where we were staying. The place was packed, fortunately we did not have to wait long for a table either since there was only the 2 of us. We got seated within 10 minutes. Waitress immediately came by to take our order (again not a long wait). I ordered the pork chop and rice pilaf and my fiancé had the prime rib and mashed potatoes. Fresh baked bread was also brought to the table - which was amazing. Everything we had was amazing! From the speed of the service to the quality of the food and the rustic vibe from the restaurant. We loved every bit of it.

Made a reservation when it opened for dinner. We were greeted with warm smile. Felt right at home. We were seated promptly. The waitress was knowledgeable about the daily specials and was super courteous. We ordered the Artichoke Dip and I ordered the Rib Eye. Both were excellent. The Rib Eye wa perfectly made to order. Definitely, a great place to eat when visiting Mammoth.

The best restaurant in Mammoth. Great atmosphere and great service. The best Caesar salad I've had in a long time.

Been here a couple times now, and overall the restaurant is decent but not special. The prime rib is always a lock. The ribeye is also solid with nice char lines. Cocktails are decent. Had to wait 10+ min for our table despite reservations though. They don't really rotate their menu much - their specials are exactly the same as one year ago. Bottom line: if you're feeling a solid steak or prime rib, Mogul is nice and is above avg for what you'll find in Mammoth.

MY KIDS ATE GOOD HERE! This is an OG Mammoth family owned restaurant and my in-laws loved it and so we brought our kids to try it and also got our stamp of approval. PROS: - prime rib medium rare was cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes were rich and broccoli side flavorful - lobster tail dinner (1 for $50 and $2 for $89) was succulent and delicious w/ the melted butter. Baked potato w/ butter sour cream was basic. - free bread basket came hot and fresh and my kids ate it up (even with the herbs baked in it) - kids meal pasta (red sauce) was a big portion and my kiddos devoured it (picture is proof lol) - special appetizer was whole steamed artichoke and it was yum - bottle of wine was priced great not too hiked up like other spots - service was A++ our guy was very attentive and friendly. The bussers always came by to clear the table - restroom was clean and they had a baby changing table FTW! CONS: - nada nothing! We'll definitely be regulars here on our family vacations. Thank you for a wonderful dinner service!

Bug with legs in my food, then gaslit by manager when I pointed it out. Guess that's normal to him. U see the legs?
Keila V.

Finding an INSECT in my food was beyond disgusting. Once that happened, the entire table lost their appetite. The dish was taken away, but the manager kept asking if I wanted something else -- as if I would still be comfortable eating from the same kitchen after that. When I explained why I wasn't comfortable, the manager became defensive and mostly just stared at me instead of offering a solution. We were then told there was "nothing that could be done because it's in the vegetables," which is not reassuring at all. Vegetables still need to be properly washed and inspected. To make matters worse, my friends were still expected to pay for food they could barely touch. No apology, no accountability, and no effort to make things right. The entire interaction felt uncomfortable and dismissive. The outdated carpet throughout the restaurant didn't help--especially after finding a bug in my food. Carpet in a dining area feels like a red flag when it comes to cleanliness.

This was particularly true of the 25/26 season, and I found myself there in what was likely one of the last powder days of the season. I stayed in the Mammoth Creek Inn, a short walk away from Mammoth Bowl, but this is not the first time I've been there. Mammoth Rock Brasserie is somewhat hidden as it exists above a bowling alley, but it is undeniably one of the rare gems in Mammoth Lakes. I walked in at about 5:30pm without a reservation on a Saturday, and everything was great. I got seated quickly near the window with a great view, and was given the rundown of the specials of the day, which I'll be grading individually. - Hamachi Special "Hamachi Crudo" (5/5) - done to absolute perfection, the choice of sauces and a small amount of ginger and seaweed salad made for a perfect tasing experience. The sashimi is fresh of course, but what sauces you pair with it matters - and Brasserie did it perfectly - Seabass special "Loup de Mer au Beurre Blanc" (5/5) - done to perfection! The skin was perfectly crispy, and the fillet done amazingly well and combined with the Beurre Blanc made for an incredible pairing. The mashed potato side and asparagus was also great, although I wasn't really a fan of the root vegetables. There was also the complementary bread and salted butter which were a great way to start. The bread I believe comes from Shea Schat's bakery in the same town. Overall everything was amazing, and you're overlooking some of the best views of Mammoth Lake's mountain range. It's difficult to not recommend the experience, except maybe it being a somewhat pricey fine dining experience, but I think everyone should try it at least once!

We visited as a family of four and made reservations ahead of time after hearing so many great things--and we felt incredibly fortunate to secure a Sunday booking, especially since they're closed Monday through Wednesday. It ended up being the perfect way to begin our time in Mammoth. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and efficient without ever feeling rushed. And the food? Absolutely divine. Every dish reflected the expertise and care of a master chef with decades of experience in Norwegian cuisine. What truly elevated the evening was the personal touch--the chef graciously visited our table to greet us and ensure everything was to our liking. That kind of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. We ordered three appetizers, a soup, three entrées, and finished with crème brûlée for dessert--and every single item was flawless. An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Five stars--well deserved. Thank you for an unforgettable meal.

The open kitchen adds a level of sophistication and elegance that made us very excited for the meal. Our server was very friendly, personable, attentive and helpful with recommendations. Unfortunately, ambiance and service proved to be the two best attributes of this restaurant. We started the meal with the Hamachi Crudo, which was well constructed, but something was unpleasantly fishy on the plate... not sure if it was the roe, the scallops, or the fish itself. The Little Gems salad had a nice flavorful Danish blue cheese, but the lettuce looked like it was washed, cut and prepped the day before (rotten sections where it had been chopped). The beets were totally bland and unseasoned, like they were just boiled, cooled, cubed and thrown on the plate. For a fine dining restaurant, you would hope that every component on its own would be individually seasoned. The mushroom soup was very flat tasting, and the texture of the puck of mushrooms in the bottom of the bowl that had hot broth poured table side was not enjoyable to eat at all. They tasted like gross, chewy reconstituted dried mushrooms... very unpleasant. For our mains, we ordered the Scallops and the Steak. The scallops were undercooked. My wife had a hard time finishing them. We weren't concerned about health risks considering how upscale this place was, but texturally you want a seared scallop to have a nice bouncy texture when you bite into it. These were very soft. On a positive note, the sauce was flavorful though. I am assuming my steak was cooked sous vide because it was insanely soft (almost mushy) and cooled down about 2 minutes after being brought to the table. There was no texture to it at all, and it had an odd warmed over flavor, like it was maybe cooked far in advance and then seared to order. The sides of potatoes and vegetables were more delicious to be honest. Overall, while I cannot fault the setting, ambiance and service, the food fell extremely short. Especially for the $300 we spent after tip.

Super friendly, attentive, and took the time to walk us through the beer options while we already had our food picked out. Service like that makes a difference. We started with the mushroom soup (soup of the day). It was fully blended and smooth -- no big chunks -- and while it wasn't the most memorable soup ever, it definitely hit the spot after being out in the cold all day. The Oyster Rockefeller was the highlight. Perfectly done. The oysters tasted fresh, the spinach flavor came through nicely, and the crispy topping added the perfect crunch. I planned to have just one... ended up eating two. For the main, we ordered the steak medium well. It came out more charred on the outside than expected, so it wasn't amazing, but still solid. The fries were great though -- especially paired with beer. Overall, the food was good but not extraordinary. However, the service -- especially from Alonso -- really elevated the experience. We arrived and were greeted warmly by our host and seated at a table in front of the fireplace. The restaurant is very small and cozy. Our server took our drink orders and brought out a bread basket. We all ordered the following: - Soup of the day (loaded baked potato) - short rib fries - oven roasted Frenched chicken breast - chicken Parmesan - pan seared chinook salmon - shrimp scampi There was a small hiccup when my 10-year-old son noticed another table had been served chicken tenders and fries. We weren't offered a kids' menu, so he had ordered chicken Parmesan from the regular menu. Not a huge issue, but it would have been nice to know kid-friendly options were available. Unfortunately, service timing became more of a problem toward the end of the meal. After we had mostly finished eating, our server asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. We said yes, and I gently reminded her we were celebrating a birthday. When she returned, she brought a complimentary birthday dessert with a candle (very thoughtful gesture!) but our dinner plates, empty glasses, and general table clutter were still in front of us. We also still hadn't seen the dessert menu we'd asked for, which made the moment feel rushed and a bit awkward. Needless to say, our server seemed to catch on that I was disappointed in the service towards the end of our meal. It seemed like she was the only server on the floor, too, which probably explained the lack of attentiveness and timing issues. Overall, the food was alright and everyone enjoyed their meals. It was an okay dining experience but the service could definitely use some improvement. For a restaurant with higher menu prices and a more upscale presentation (linen napkins, cozy ambiance, etc.), the level of service didn't quite match my expectations. I would still return as it could've just been an "off" night and their martinis were great!

The food was excellent across the board. We ordered elk, cod, and scallops and the scallops were the clear mic drop. Perfectly cooked, rich, and memorable. Our server recommended a bottle of wine that paired beautifully with everything and felt like someone actually listened instead of just pointing at the most expensive option. Service all around was warm, attentive, and unpretentious, which is not always a given in resort towns. Dessert was sorbet, simple but refreshing, and my girlfriend ordered a port she really enjoyed. Our starter salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, the lamb starter was undercooked, and while the scallops were very good, $8 per scallop felt excessive. The beef Wellington, which we were particularly excited about, was bland and the pastry was doughy. For a dinner that totaled over $300 for two people, we expected a much higher level of quality and creativity. Compared to our previous visits, the food felt like it had gone noticeably downhill.
